I am still obsessed with the way Crewmates fill up the maps on the Create Game screen by the way. The details of what they’re doing… *chef’s kiss* ##### **New Roles** In September, we released two new roles in v17.0.0: Detective and Viper! The Detective was our first Crewmate role that needed much more involvement and big brain IQ to properly strategize with. (Confession: I am terrible at this role. My brain is too small.) Meanwhile, the Viper got a cool custom kill animation and got to wreak havoc in lobbies. Shout out to this one comment I saw that said “I got puked on by Viper, the animation is grosssss 😂”. Please consider it an honor to be puked on by Viper. ##### **Collabs** The most recent (and ongoing) collab was with the ConcernedApe himself for a Stardew Valley Cosmicube! This all started when we bullied him into going to the aquarium with us in Seattle back in 2023. (I’m joking.) (But we did go to the aquarium!) Can you believe it?! Our new roles are finally here, and they're sure to shake up your next Emergency Meeting! Update your game to **17.0.0** so you can enjoy these new flavors of chaos and all the fixes. ##### New Crewmate Role: Detective Some of you are proper gumshoes, and now you can live up to the name by playing as the new Detective role! This is our first role with two separate abilities. Here's how to use them: - **Notes:** Keep track of a dead Crewmate's location, your list of suspects, and what kind of Impostor you're looking for. - **Interrogate: **Start questioning your fellow Crewmates, and find out where they were during the crime! - You can only use the ability on one active case at a time! You'll need to switch the file if you're [researching multiple murders](https://youtu.be/RMFjx8k2woY?si=O_asXqYhEHKGr3Q4&t=140). - You can change how many Interrogations a Detective can do via the advanced role settings when you're in the Dropship. When we made this role, we really wanted to make Emergency Meeting discussions even more fun! Be careful, though! As you start putting the pieces together, you might be the Impostor's next target. Make sure to grab a fresh notebook and your magnifying glass — you're gonna need 'em! ##### New Impostor Role: Viper This new Impostor role is perfect for destroying, or in this case, dissolving their victims. Use a well-timed Sabotage to keep the rest of the crew busy while you use your **Acid** ability and watch the Crewmate's body slowly melt away. Here's how it works: - After a kill, the Crewmate corpse will decay in 3 stages: slightly dissolved, very dissolved, and then just a bone before it's completely gone. - You can adjust how quickly the corpse dissolves in the advanced role settings in the Dropship. Before long, the body is gone, and all you have to worry about is your alibi. Time it right and you might achieve the ultimate Impostor dream: killing without leaving any trace of it behind. No one's going to call an Emergency Meeting when there's nothing, right? If you find yourself on the unfortunate end of the Viper's acidic spit, sadly... this is your end. But at least you'll be treated to a brand new kill animation before you watch your body start to sizzle. We had a great time testing these roles and are excited to see how y'all handle these new abilities — whether you become The Skeld's greatest detective or you just want to go around spitting at other Crewmates (a lil gross, ngl), it's sure to be a ton of fun. Alongside the new roles, we have some quality of life updates! First up is our "How to Play" guide. The guide was getting a little cramped with our last additions. Now that we've got 9 roles, the guide has been updated so you can more easily select which one you'd like to learn to play. The Role Settings have also been updated! We couldn't squeeze all the new roles into the same space, so we changed the selection into a scrollable list. The roles will be ordered left to right, starting with the older roles on the left and the newer roles to the right. Practice mode got a little lift as well! Now, when you're looking to change your role during Practice, you can choose either the new blue Crewmate folder or the red Impostor folder to find and select the role you'd like to try. Here's what you may run into while you're prepping your alibi: ##### Known Bugs - Switching from windowed to fullscreen may break the UI. - In rare cases, accepting a game invite will cause a disconnect with the Among Us servers. - It is difficult to see currently highlighted buttons on the Find Game screen while using a controller. - Exiting Practice Mode returns players to the Main Menu instead of the Online Menu. - In rare instances, buttons can't be selected while in the Dropship. - Players may remain on the Find Game screen when trying to join a lobby after a network disconnect. - **[Hide n Seek]** - Win stats are not updating as intended. Before you enter the Dropship, let's take a moment to talk about one of the more recent bugs that's had an impact on Among Us. ##### Disconnects and Temporary Bans When we released 16.0.0, we saw more black screen errors reported by players when trying to start a round. This would crash the game and give out an incorrect temporary ban (like in the screenshot above), which made for an understandably frustrating experience. Let's break down how the temporary bans work: - Temp bans exist to discourage players from disrupting the game flow. This can be for things like: repeatedly leaving games before they're over, or leaving right after role reveals because you didn't get the Impostor role. - Leaving one game before it's over _shouldn't_ result in an immediate temp ban. - Leaving multiple games before they conclude will start to count against you and potentially get you a temp ban. - Before the 16.0.0 update, you could completely close Among Us, and that would clear a temp ban. Now, this isn't possible. - With the last hotfix (16.0.2), we tweaked how you could get a temp ban. Now, if you disconnect from the game before roles are revealed, that won't count against you. Now, you should see far fewer instances of getting a false temp ban (AKA super long timeout) because of a black screen or game crash. That was a lot of info! Our programmers have been hard at work yeeting bugs that have been creepy crawling their way into the game. Some of them you wouldn't have seen but trust us - they're gone now. Make sure your game is updated to **v2024.10.29** for the fixes. ##### Patch Notes Don't worry about Yellow... they're fine. They just helped fix the following: - Trying to start an Online lobby while permanently or temporarily banned will no longer put the game into an endless black screen. Remember to play nice. - Updated the Tracker's ability to display as "TRACK" instead of "TRACKER". - The "Room Code Copied" text will now disappear after you copy the room code. - Fixed the misaligned cursors in the chat, 'Edit Name', and 'Add Friend' windows. - Corrected visuals for viewing the Store and Wardrobe while playing at 3440x1440 resolution. - - We lowered the volume of The Skeld song in the lobby. Sorry it was too loud! You can adjust the volume further with the volume slider in the settings. - - The friends list icon no longer moves when accepting a game invite. - - Chat bubbles shouldn't break through the chat window when scrolling. - - The visor and hat on the host icon are now layered correctly. - - Hats now layer correctly when stacking with other players on the Dropship. - - Fixed layering issues for chat in multiple windows. - - Fixed inconsistent fonts being displayed for special characters. - - Game setting updates now display with the correct icons and colors when popping up on the left side of the screen. - - The plus and minus buttons in the role settings will continue to work after you select a game preset. - - The plus and minus buttons in the role settings no longer stay highlighted after selecting them. - - Button click SFX no longer occur when you click the map icon during the start of a game. - - The practice dummies will now respawn after calling an Emergency Meeting. - [Airship / Fungle] - Visors are layered correctly during ladder animations. - [Skeld / Polus] - We removed a controller button icon that appeared during the Inspect Samples task even if you weren't using a controller. - - Crewmates don't get frozen in the climbing animation if a Mushroom Mixup is called while on the ladder. Combating hacks is like resolving Sabotages - when you fix one another might appear later. Any info you can send is helpful in making sure we can keep Among Us free of disruptive behavior that takes the fun away (outside of Impostors of course).
