Friends, family, funny people,

We are back with another hotfix offering up several bug fixes and addressing some rather annoying instances of crashing on Xbox.

What’s more, Hotfix #34 brings a special update to those of you playing on Steam Deck: Baldur’s Gate 3 now features a native Steam Deck build! This means the game can now be run natively on the platform, resulting in a more stable framerate, lower loading times, and smoother gameplay.

This is not just good news for Steam Deck users either, the work the team has put into this build also means that everyone will get to enjoy overall improvements to the way game models are streamed on all platforms, which should reduce framerate spikes in busy areas, such as the Lower City in Act 3.

Find your best Steam Deck settings

When launching the game on Steam Deck after Hotfix #34, you will be on the native Steam Deck graphics settings by default. You can always give these settings a tweak, whether you decide to go native or play with Proton.

Our wonderful Support Team have put together a comprehensive guide on the Steam Deck Native transition with all the information you may need:

https://larian.com/support/faqs/steam-deck-native-version_121

Want the TL;DR version? Read on below!

What’s the difference between the Steam Deck Native and Proton version?

Our Proton version runs on the Steam Deck via the Proton compatibility layer, which requires extra CPU processing power. Running the game natively on the Steam Deck requires less CPU usage and memory consumption overall!

Savegames
Where are my saves located currently (before using the Steam Deck Native version)?

Before the Steam Deck Native version becomes the primary version, your saves will be in the compatdata folder:

/home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/1086940/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/Larian Studios/Baldur's Gate 3/PlayerProfiles/Public

Where are my saves located when I use the Steam Deck Native version?

After the Steam Deck Native version becomes the primary version, your saves will be in the following folder: /home/deck/.local/share/Larian Studios/Baldur's Gate 3/PlayerProfiles/Public

Why are my saves in different folders?

When Baldur’s Gate 3 runs on the Proton compatibility layer, the Proton version will store the saves in the compatdata folder, which is a mirrored version of the Windows file storage system. On the Steam Deck Native version, the saves are stored natively on the SteamOS file storage system.

Will my savegames be transferred over to the new version when I use the Steam Deck Native version?

If your Steam Cloud saves are turned on, your most recent saves will be synced to the Steam Deck Native savegame folder automatically.

What if I don’t have Cloud saves turned on, or I want to access my older saves?

Your saves are still stored on the Steam Deck, but they will be stored in the compatdata folder.

You can manually transfer these files via the Desktop:

  • First, switch to Desktop Mode by clicking on the Steam button and selecting Power. Then click on Switch to Desktop.

  • If you’ve got a mouse and keyboard to hand, plug them in to make your life a little easier, and click on the folder icon on the bar at the bottom.

  • In the explorer window, navigate to: /home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/1086940/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/Larian Studios/Baldur's Gate 3/PlayerProfiles/Public

  • Copy the Savegames folder.

  • Navigate to: /home/deck/.local/share/Larian Studios/Baldur's Gate 3/PlayerProfiles/Public

  • Paste the copied folder in this location.

Mods on Steam Deck
Will my mods be transferred over automatically?

If you are logged into your Larian Account and have it connected to mod.io, all mods you are subscribed to will be downloaded when the transition to Steam Deck Native occurs.

What if I’m not logged into a Larian Account or connected to mod.io?

You can either manually download the mods from the Mod Manager or transfer them manually from the previous folder.

  • To do so,switch to Desktop Mode by clicking on the Steam button and selecting Power. Then click on Switch to Desktop.

  • Click on the folder icon on the bar at the bottom.

  • In the explorer window, navigate to: /home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/1086940/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/Larian Studios/Baldur's Gate 3

  • Copy the Mods folder.

  • Navigate to: /home/deck/.local/share/Larian Studios/Baldur's Gate 3/

  • Paste the copied folder in this location.

Troubleshooting
The game looks really blurry/fuzzy to me, is there a way to fix that?

If you’re playing on default settings, the game may be looking a little blurry due to the use of FSR 1 as the default Upscaling Type. You can try to switch it to FSR 2.2 to achieve a better image quality, though at the cost of some performance loss.

To do so, go into the game’s settings menu. Under the Video tab, scroll down until you find a setting called Upscaling Type. You can switch this over to FSR 2.2 for the best balance between performance and image sharpness.

Patch 8 is now live! For the full patch notes, please click here.

Well folks,

This is it. Our final major game patch for Baldur’s Gate 3.

You’ve helped us make BG3 a bigger success than any of us could’ve ever hoped for, and that passion could keep us tweaking things and making changes until the end of time. But then we’d never be able to create something new.

Outside of minor bug fixing, Patch 8 will be the last game patch to introduce new content. That means we won’t be adding any new narrative content or significant changes to storylines, Origin characters, or companions. We’ve told our stories the way we needed to tell them, and tried our best to make them impactful and engaging, and we’re continuing to get better at handling our own chaos so that we can continue to create more chaos in the future.

From the start, your feedback has been incredibly important to us, and will continue to shape our future projects. As Swen said during the Baldur’s Gate 3 retrospective panel at PAX West in August of last year, it’s time for the team to go back to our cave and hang the armour on the wall while we focus on bringing you our next project.

If you’re already feeling nostalgic, you can click here to watch our last Baldur’s Gate 3 panel, where we looked back on Baldur’s Gate 3, from early access through to release, and answered some of your questions.

From patching in a way to change your appearance with the Magic Mirror, introducing Honour Mode for those of you looking for a hard time, and giving you new ways to make out with your romanced companion, to new cinematics for your most evil runs, and handing you the tools to create your own supported mods, Patch 8 now rounds off with cross-play, Photo Mode, and 12 new subclasses for you to enjoy.

To help us close the door on our last major patch, the party are back with their final animated short in collaboration with Spud Gun Studios - with a special appearance by the man in metal himself: Swen in his animated debut!

Patch 8

Now let’s talk about what's new with our final patch!

Steam Trading Cards

Baldur’s Gate 3 now supports Steam Trading Cards! And you thought you’d never get them. Collect the unique trading cards to craft badges, and unlock exclusive profile backgrounds and emoticons to use anywhere on Steam! Speaking of Steam, Baldur’s Gate 3 is now on sale with 20% off until April 21st:

Cross-Play

Players on PC, Mac, Xbox, and PlayStation 5 will now all be able to enjoy Baldur’s Gate 3 multiplayer, with full cross-platform progression and cross-play.

Using the Larian Network, you can now join and create cross-play lobbies to take on your adventures together.

Cross-Play & Mods

You’ll be able to continue to enjoy creating chaos with mods in cross-play, but it’s important to note that all players joining the lobby must have the same version of mods installed. When joining a host’s game, you’ll be prompted with the Mod Verification window to enable, upgrade, downgrade, or install any missing mods.

If you are a PC player creating a cross-play lobby, keep in mind you can use the “Available on Console & Mac” tag to browse mods that will be compatible with consoles and Mac, and that the mod limit on consoles is 100. Third-party mods cannot be used on consoles.

Using Cross-Play

First things first, make sure everyone has their platform account connected to their Larian account. You can do this by going to https://larian.com/account/connected and connecting your account.

Once that's done, it's time to make sure cross-play is enabled by following these steps:

  • From the Main Menu, select "Options"

  • Under the Gameplay tab, scroll down until you see "Allow Cross-Play", and check the box

Add friends to your account by:

  • Clicking the "Account Management" icon from the right-hand side of the Main Menu screen

  • Select Friend List

  • Click on "Add Friends" and enter their username

  • You can then send them a Friend Request

For more details on how to add friends, please click here.

If you want your friends to join you in an existing save, you'll need to make sure the save you want to use has cross-play enabled.

  • To check this, go to Load Game from the Main Menu

  • Select the save game you'd like to enable cross-play on, and look for the check the box to enable cross-play

  • Load the save game

  • Once in your save, navigate to Multiplayer and invite your friend!

You can also create a new cross-play multiplayer lobby by following these steps:

  • Access Multiplayer

  • Select “Cross-Play”

  • Select “Create”

  • Customise your options and select “Launch”

To join another player in multiplayer via cross-play:

  • On the main menu, select “Multiplayer”

  • Select the “Cross-Play” tab

  • Join the other player’s lobby

  • If you or the host are using mods and there are any discrepancies, the Mod Verification window will open to inform you of which mods need installing, uninstalling, or updating

Get started with cross-play by following our (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qX4ffv7xLsI), and check out this (https://larian.com/support/faqs/cross-play-hosting-or-joining-a-game_117) for more details.

Photo Mode

Position and pose your party, play around with camera settings, and whack a few stickers on there. Photo Mode is now yours to explore with Patch 8!

Getting Started

To test out Photo Mode, toggle it on or off by pressing down on both analog sticks if on console, or by pressing F9 if on PC. You can also enable Photo Mode by clicking on the Photo Mode icon on the HUD minimap.

Exploring Camera Settings

When you’re adventuring with your party, you’ll be able to alter their positioning and try different facial expressions and poses, while making the most of the camera, lens, and scene settings, even during combat encounters.

While you won’t be able to change the position of your party or camera angle during dialogues and cinematic scenes, you will still be able to enjoy a range of post-processing effects, including colour-grading settings, frames, and stickers.

Photo Mode & Modding

Speaking of stickers, Photo Mode already includes more than 300 stickers, but keen modders out there will be able to create and upload their own via the BG3 Toolkit!

Baldur’s Gate 3 Modding
Baldur’s Gate 3 Toolkit

As well as Patch 8, the Baldur’s Gate 3 Modding Toolkit is receiving an update, which means mod authors will now be able to explore partial level editing! Whether you fancy creating your own NPC, dropping a metric ton of carrots across every existing level just for the sake of it, pledging your undying love to Shadowheart by turning all wolves into bunny rabbits or by moving them to the House of Hope, you’ll now be able to use the Toolkit to add or override certain template types in existing levels.

Partial level editing means that what you won’t be able to do with the official Baldur’s Gate 3 Toolkit is add dialogues or change the static parts of the world like buildings, scenery or terrain. You can, however, create your own interactive objects like a chest that teleports away every time you get close to it - no one will touch your belongings ever again! Including you. Or you could make a salami statue that you can put in your pocket. The world truly is yours.

Modding Guidelines Update

To support the new realm of possibilities with the latest Toolkit update, we have now updated the modding guidelines with new information, and will continue curating mods for console. As part of this update, we have reviewed technical requirements, and unfortunately, mods that introduce new playable races are unable to be curated for console. If you’re a mod author, we suggest giving the guidelines a read by clicking here.

UI Functionality Improvements

We have been continuing to work closely with mod authors to ensure there are fewer conflicts between game mods and new patches, particularly for those that have ImpUI as a dependency. While the ImpUI mod isn’t currently being maintained, to help keep things running smoothly and to support the creative passion of those in the modding community, we’ve introduced minor changes to how some functionalities are handled in the Toolkit. Now, mod authors will be able to make changes directly for mods that rely on UI tweaks during Character Creation.

The changes now supported natively in the Toolkit include:

  • Action Resources

  • Racial spells at LevelUp

  • Race passives

  • UI scrolling for Heads, Passives, Equipment, Class, Subclass, and Origin selection

  • Feat passives

  • Radial customisation and descriptions

Thank you to (https://mod.io/g/baldursgate3/u/therealdjmr) for their incredible work on this mod and for keeping in contact with us while we resolved the conflicts and introduced this functionality, as well as (https://mod.io/g/baldursgate3/u/caites), both who have been particularly helpful, and whose names now lie firmly in the Baldur’s Gate 3 game credits, along with the mod authors who have been helping us test Toolkit functionality!

Mods In Patch 8

As Patch 8 begins to roll out, please remain patient and respectful of those in the community who put work into creating their mods. Some things might not work immediately after a new update and it might take a little while before a mod can be updated. If you can’t wait to dive in but are worried about your mod list, we recommend starting a new playthrough to enjoy the new subclasses and to try out photo mode.

Patch Notes

Along with the new additions, Patch 8 also tackles a range of bugs, like fixing Shadowheart’s penchant for hair dye while skinny dipping, Cerys will stop getting involved in combats with Minthara from across the region, and we’ve resolved an issue with the moving platform in the Gauntlet of Shar that has accidentally proven harder to survive than, well, the actual Gauntlet of Shar.

  • Fixed the skiff at the Morphic Pool sometimes appearing in the wrong spot or floating in the air.

  • Fixed body type 1 duergar incorrectly receiving halfling stats instead of dwarf stats.

  • Fixed Gimblebock getting stuck if his attack triggered a Reaction.

Hotfix #29 Now Live! (Console Only)

Added
  • Introduce a 100-mod limit for console platforms to address console file limits
Changed
  • Console players with more than 100 mods installed will have mods automatically uninstalled and must redownload them, begin a new save, or load an earlier save with fewer than 100 mods
  • Console players cannot load saves that already have 100 mods enabled
Fixed
  • Resolved stability and performance issues when using mods on console

Hey everyone,

There’s a small console-only hotfix going live today that resolves some stability and performance issues when using mods on console.

Console Platform File Limits

Unlike PC, consoles can only juggle so many files at once. The more mods you have installed, the quicker this file limit is reached. While we recommend only installing the mods you know you’ll definitely continue playing with, to maximise stability, we’re introducing a 100-mod limit for console platforms.

What Does This Mean For Cross-Saves?

Console players won’t be able to load saves that already have 100 mods enabled. If you play on both PC and console using cross-saves and have more than 100 mods enabled on a save, you may be able to disable the number of active mods from your PC, so that you can continue accessing your cross-save on console.

We’ll be shipping another fix soon that will aim to give console players the means to access console saves that are disabled after today’s update. However, it is important to note that mods can cause general instability, particularly on console, and depending on the mods you’ve had enabled on a save, you may run into issues when disabling them from your PC.

If you’ve got more than 100 mods installed on console, they will be automatically uninstalled on your console, and you’ll need to redownload any mods you downloaded, begin a new save, or load an earlier save with fewer than 100 mods to continue playing on console.

While we are working on bringing cross-play to Baldur’s Gate 3, you’ll also need to keep this limit in mind when playing with console players! But more on that later.

This hotfix also fixes an issue with multiplayer, where some players were getting caught in an enable–disable loop in the Mod Verification Window when trying to disable a mod that the host doesn't have.

MODDING
  • On PS5, the 'Continue' button will now work the same as the 'Load Game' screen in that it won't allow you to start a game if there are any mod issues.

Hotfix #26 Now Live!

Fixed
  • Resolved issues with mod filters not working as intended in the Mod Manager
  • Fixed an unexpected crash when navigating the in-game Mod Manager
  • Honour Mode enemies should no longer retain their Legendary Actions when switching from an Honour Mode save to a non-Honour-Mode save

Hey folks,

We’ve got a short and sweet PC hotfix releasing today that is resolving a game crash, as well as restoring your ability to switch back to a non-Honour-Mode save without fighting for your life with enemies retaining their Honour Mode Legendary Actions. Whoopsies.

With October less than two weeks away, console and Mac players can expect Patch 7 to arrive soon! This release will also bring some further minor tweaks and fixes for the in-game Mod Manager on PC.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback on Patch 7! If you’re still noticing a few incompatibility issues with mods, give our (https://larian.com/support/faqs/mod-issues_112) a go and try uninstalling your mods to confirm whether the issue persists without them installed. If you continue to have issues after uninstalling all mods, you can reach out to our support team by clicking here.

Whether you’re making the most out of the new in-game Mod Manager or continuing to use third-party mods alongside it, please remember to be kind and patient to mod authors. Not all of your favourite mods may be available to install in-game, and it’s important to note that attempting to port or recreate another person’s mods using the Baldur’s Gate 3 Toolkit is not permitted. Give our modding guidelines a read by viewing them (https://mod.io/g/baldursgate3/r/modding-guidelines).

EDIT:

Patch 7 is now rolling out to console and Mac players! This update also brings both Hotfix #26 and now Hotfix #27 to all platforms! Catch up on the latest patch notes here.

Hey gang,

Are you ready to embrace evil? Do you yearn to see the consequences of unleashing your inner jerk?

Great! Because Patch 7 releases on** PC**, today! And with it come new evil ending cinematics, along with Honour Mode improvements and new Legendary Actions, split screen improvements, a new way to mod your game, and a whole bunch of gameplay improvements and bug fixes.

Mac and console players, this is one of those patches that is so packed with changes and new features - including official modding support for all platforms - that it’s going to take a little longer to get this patch through all the necessary technical checks and requirements and into your hands. Although later than we originally expected, Patch 7 is headed to console and Mac in October, and we will keep you updated with our progress!

Unfortunately, this does mean that console players will not be able to load cross-saves if they come from Patch 7 on PC - and multiplayer between PC and Mac will not be possible. We are still working on bringing crossplay to Baldur’s Gate 3, and like Patch 7, this requires a lot of work and testing before we're prepared to release it into the wild.

We’ve still got a few more patches up our sleeve for Baldur’s Gate 3 - which will include both crossplay and photo mode, alongside other fixes and updates. But eventually all stories must come to an end. As Swen said during last week’s PAX West panel in Seattle - our final live panel for Baldur’s Gate 3 - it’s time for the team to go back to our cave and hang the armour on the wall while we focus on bringing you our next project.

In case you missed it, you can catch up on the panel (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gVIYrwn6y9c) for a fond look-back at the making of Baldur’s Gate 3, as well as answers to some of your most infernally burning questions.

Patch 7 is certainly a big ‘un, and we’ve been busy tackling feedback and game bugs thanks to the help of mod authors who’ve been testing and populating the modding hub, as well as players who have been sharing their experience with Patch 7 during the Closed Beta. Thank you to all of you who had the opportunity to take part. The playtest has now ended and we’ll be taking this experience and carrying learnings from it into the future!

Patch 7 is approximately 11.6GB on PC, and will require 160GB of free space to install. If you find yourself without the space to install the update, we recommend uninstalling Baldur’s Gate 3 and then re-downloading the patched version!

As with any patch, some third-party mods may still become incompatible after our latest update. Please try uninstalling your mods and confirm whether the issue persists without them installed. If you continue to have issues after uninstalling all mods, do reach out to our support team. Please also remember to be patient with mod authors as they make any relevant adjustments to their mods!

We know many third-party mods utilise Script Extender, and as part of the Toolkit and patch testing with mod authors, efforts to help support compatibility with Patch 7 should mean that mods that require Script Extender will continue to work.

A big thank you to Norbyte, creator of Script Extender, and to all of the mod authors who have contributed to the Toolkit with their feedback! We couldn’t have done it without you.

And with that, let’s take a look at this thing!
Does Corruption Call Your Name?

The Sword Coast is yours to command, to rule like no other.

Whether you embraced absolute power, carried out your father’s will, played as an Origin character or were generally a menace to society, you’ll find Patch 7 now introduces 13 new cinematics that offer varying conclusions to your most evil playthroughs.

If you’re a streamer who is very demure, very mindful, and you use the 'Show Cinematic Nudity' option in the game's settings, it’s worth noting that we’ve now renamed this option to 'Show Sexual and Violent Cinematics' and updated its description to more accurately indicate what it does. This setting toggles explicit content plus a few select moments of extreme violence that may be distressing to some. We might have also embraced corruption a little too much because the new evil ending cinematics have been included in this setting. They really are that evil.

This setting does not affect your adventure, your choices, or your access to romance options; however, it does block sexual content with nudity and particularly violent scenes with gore.

Well, she got her dragon. But at what cost?

Whether you’re starting a new game or loading an old save to relive your battle with the Netherbrain, you’ll get to see these new cinematics depending on the choices you make.

It’s a One-Night Kinda Thing

We remember clearly stating in Community Update #28 that if you are playing as the Dark Urge, a certain bard would now be able to join the party as a controllable character at camp if there’s an empty slot, TEMPORARILY.

It would seem some of you didn’t pick up what we were putting down.

There are no new companions. There is only death.

The day the music died.

New Honour Mode Legendary Actions

To add to the nightmare fuel, we’ve also made some improvements to Honour Mode combat, like giving Malus Thorm a new Legendary Action called Grasping Appendage. Gross.

A New Way to Mod Baldur’s Gate 3

We’re also bringing you another way to mod your Baldur’s Gate 3 saves, with Patch 7 introducing our very own in-game Mod Manager and modding Toolkit, which can be downloaded on Steam for PC players!

With this new and supported way to create and install mods, you should see improvements in compatibility and accessibility, and can rest more assured that your supported mods work wherever you’re playing Baldur's Gate 3, which will include consoles a little down the line.

In-Game Mod Manager

Browse Baldur’s Gate 3 mods straight from the game!

Mods that are created and uploaded via our Toolkit can be browsed and installed directly from the game itself.

Enable or disable mods from the Installed tab.

Manage your mods for multiplayer parties by ensuring you have the same mods installed and enabled.

View and manage your installed mods.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Toolkit

Baldur’s Gate 3 Toolkit - Project Selection.

The Baldur’s Gate 3 Toolkit is a separate application on the Steam store that you can download for free that allows you to create mods specifically for Baldur’s Gate 3.

Scripting Changes using Osiris.

Baldur’s Gate 3 will also now officially support some scripted mods using Osiris, our in-house scripting language. This means mod authors will be able to reload their own scripts, handle build errors, and also carry out basic debugging.

Publish a mod straight from the Toolkit!

Whether you want to mod Baldur’s Gate 3 with supported or third-party mods and mod managers - you’ll always have that choice, but if you would like to give our Toolkit a go and try your hand at making a mod with our very own tools, head on over to your Library and select the option to view Tools. If you own Baldur's Gate 3 you should have the Baldur's Gate 3 Toolkit automatically added to your Library.

To download the Toolkit and the Data DLC necessary for mod creation, you’ll need to make sure that DLC is enabled through the Baldur’s Gate 3 store page, and check that ‘Tools’ is checked in your Steam Library to make the application visible once installed!

You can do this by:

  • Going to your Steam Library

  • Right-clicking on Baldur’s Gate 3

  • Selecting properties, then DLC

  • In the Install column, check that Toolkit Data DLC is checked

To make sure Tools is selected as showing, use the dropdown navigation above your Library search bar.

Getting Started With Modding

To help you get set up with supported mods, we’ll be posting a Community Update in the not-so-distant future that’ll go into some more detail on both creating and using supported mods, so make sure to keep an eye out!

In the meantime, we’ve prepared some further guides to help kickstart your modding adventure:

For more helpful information on creating your own mods, don’t forget to refer back to the Getting Started guide!

As Swen also mentioned during the panel at PAX, we want to spotlight your creations on our new YouTube channel, Larian: Channel From Hell, so make sure to keep an eye out for regular mod features, and if you’d like to find out more or get involved, join the Larian Studios Discord server!

Bug Fixing & Gameplay Improvements

While Patch 7 brings a deluge of new features, improvements, and more, it’s also delivering plenty of bug fixes!

Once again, these patch notes turned out to be too long for Steam, so please head over to the main Baldur's Gate 3 website to read the full patch notes!

Take a look at some of the highlights:

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Introducing 'Evil Endings': Brand new cinematic endings for the truly villainous playthroughs.

  • Added our very own Mod Manager, which lets you browse, install, and use mods created by the community.

  • Revamped split screen gameplay: When playing on split screen, the two halves of the screen will now dynamically merge together when player characters come close to each other in-game, and dynamically split back up when the characters move apart. This revamp comes alongside many other improvements and polishes to improve the overall split screen experience.

Honour Mode Combat
  • If Dror Ragzlin finds himself inside the spider pit, he'll try his best to befriend the spiders residing there with a new spell called Arachnid Compulsion so they can band together to fight the real enemy - you.

  • The Bulette has a new condition called Diamond Scales and a new Legendary Action called Shredding Scales.

  • Malus Thorm has a new Legendary Action called Grasping Appendage.

  • Added a new aura and spell for Spectators: Panicked Sentinel and Ocular Nightmare, respectively.

  • Ch'r'ai Tska'an, the leader of the githyanki ambush in Act II, has a new Legendary Action called Soul Sacrifice.

  • Ch'r'ai Har'rak, the githyanki leader at the Knights of the Shield Hideout, has a new Legendary Action called Tu'narath's Embrace.

  • Ptaris has a new Legendary Action called Ptarian Dogma.

UI
  • Updated the Reactions UI so that you only have to toggle the Reactions you want to use and then confirm them. (This saves you from having to select 'Do not react' multiple times!)

  • Added a new Equipment Options menu to the Character Sheet on controller.

  • The panel that opens to 'Donate' magic items to Gale will now also show items in your Traveller's Chest. It also now indicates which items are currently equipped.

  • We noticed some of you hiccoughing bubbles, so the action for washing yourself with soap and sponges is now called 'Use' instead of 'Consume'.

  • Fixed your player character's name getting reverted to 'Custom' during Character Creation if you moved on to create your Dream Guardian and then went back to edit the player character again.

  • Fixed the wrong spell Ability showing up when selecting a Feat during Level Up.

Art
  • Added a new loading screen in Act III, showing the busy streets of Baldur's Gate.

  • Fixed the skirt part of the Adamantine Splint Armour missing for female dwarves.

  • Fixed the Adamantine Scale Mail clipping on large male characters.

Gameplay
  • You can now start Custom Mode games using Honour Mode mechanics when starting a new playthrough. You'll be able to do this via the 'Ruleset' dropdown.

  • The kuo-toa that promised to build you an army will now support you in the final battle. Unless they all died in Act I.

  • The help that the Gondians promised for the final battle will now arrive in the form of a friendly Steel Watcher. Apologies from Zanner Toobin for the delay.

  • The hair colour options in Character Creation will now remain accessible after you choose the bald hairstyle, so that you can continue fiddling around with eyebrow colours.

  • Overhead dialogues that support multiple player characters can now involve characters assigned to different players. (They were limited to characters controlled by a single player until now.) This means that there will be more banter among player characters in multiplayer games.

  • Group Hide will no longer affect summons that aren't linked to the group in the Party Line.

  • Changed the behaviour for selecting camp supplies for a Long Rest. When selecting camp supplies that are stacked, the game now only takes what it needs from the stack.

  • You can no longer cheese the Leap of Faith trial at the Gauntlet of Shar by just clicking the final platform and letting your character pathfind their way there. Shar threatened to smite us if we didn't fix this one.

  • Fixed a bug where resurrecting Lae'zel on the beach in Act I would cause her to appear in the Party Line but not in the world, preventing you from leaving Act I.

  • Patched up some savegames where Gale still had his Necrotic Aura when he shouldn't on load.

  • Fixed Minthara's body sometimes turning invisible on the Level Up screen. (We sorta liked the floating-head-and-hands look, but hey.)

Animation
  • Astarion now has idle animations at camp that aren't just him reading a book.

  • Added a new idle animation for Minsc at camp - Boo may or may not have taught him some tai chi.

  • Karlach will no longer brush the shaved side of her head.

  • Polished the appearance of neck kisses in lovey-dovey scenes with Shadowheart on the Sharran path for characters with large body types and dragonborn characters.

Writing and Flow
  • Dotted some dialogue options and voiced lines into a handful of dialogues across the game, particularly to account for edge-case flows. These changes are described in more detail in the main patch notes below.

  • Added three new Narrator lines for Dark Urge characters to add a bit more reactivity across the game. These additions are described in more detail in the main patch notes below.

  • Resolved an issue that had been rendering some romance party banters inaccessible while adventuring.

  • Fixed a flow issue where Avatar Lae'zel did not have the option to leave and ascend or stay on Faerûn after the Netherbrain is defeated.

  • Added a dialogue option asking for a kiss in more paths of Wyll's epilogue dialogue.

  • If you're in holographic form in the epilogue, Wyll won't automatically assume he's talking to Lae'zel.

  • A bug that had been preventing Wyll’s romance greeting from triggering has now been fixed, so players in Act III who have a stable, loving, and committed relationship with Wyll will now see his romance greeting triggering correctly.

  • Fixed priorities on Wyll’s greetings so that low approval greetings will now trigger accordingly for players with low approval.

  • Companions should now be more sympathetic to Astarion fleeing from the sun.

  • Added a new dialogue in which Karlach will react to Dammon if she finds him dead after he told her that he can help her.

  • In Act II, Minthara will now react to you having knocked her out in Act I.

Scripting
  • Fixed several issues (related to resurrecting characters via Withers, restructuring the party at night, and automatic camp night scenes) that would trap you in an eternal slumber, unable to end a Long Rest.

  • Fixed a bug causing Shadowheart to keep repeating one line when you talk to her after she's resurrected by Withers from the Shadowfell.

  • Fixed a small flow issue preventing you from commenting on Gale's last name.

  • Fixed several occurrences of Wyll still having an exclamation mark above his head when he already told you everything he had to say.

  • When playing as the Dark Urge, Minthara will no longer act as though you accepted Bhaal when you've been stripped of his influence.

  • Fixed a broken kissing scene after you gave Shadowheart the Idol of Shar.

  • Fixed an issue where Jaheira would stop following the party after spending a night outside of the party.

  • Fixed the rune tablets on the nautiloid sometimes not triggering the Narrator's lines.

  • Clerics of Lathander should now recognise his symbol on a Lathanderian amulet.

  • Ensured the avatar is prioritised as the main speaker in dialogues related to the hag's Act I surrender.

  • Minthara does, in fact, now have something to say about Orin after you kill her.

  • Made the romance scene at night with Wyll in Act III unskippable if it triggers to avoid accidentally skipping it and not being able to finish the romance arc.

  • If Avatar Karlach and Wyll are partners and go to the Hells together, he'll now act accordingly during the epilogue.

  • Fixed Karlach's scene in Avernus not playing if you decided to go with her when playing as Wyll.

  • A bug has been fixed so that Wyll will now talk to his father if Ansur is defeated after the pact with Mizora is broken but Ravengard is saved from the Iron Throne despite this, to decide on his title.

  • Lae'zel will now wait a little longer for you at the site of her recruitment if you tell her you'll be back.

  • Improved Lae'zel's idle camp behaviours to align a bit better with the other companions'.

  • Fixed the fade-to-black after Karlach's scene in Avernus at the end of the game, which would give you a very brief glimpse of Game Developer Land.

  • Breaking up

Hello everyone,

We’re continuing to improve stability and performance in Baldur’s Gate 3 and have another small hotfix going live today that addresses some bugs and performance issues!

Unable to Short Rest? A bug was preventing some players from taking a Short Rest when having added and then dismissed Us with a companion party member, before then loading certain savegames. We've had some kind but firm words with this adorable intellect devourer, and power naps are now back on the schedule.

Mac players, we have now resolved an issue introduced in a previous Hotfix that was causing performance and FPS drops on the platform. Update your game with this latest hotfix, and check that you are on version 4.1.1.5009956!

Hello everyone,

We’re rolling out another small hotfix on all platforms today that takes care of a couple of crashes and blockers, as well as a couple of bug fixes for Minthara, so hopefully now she’ll stop spilling the beans.

We’ve also fixed an issue where a legacy dialogue flow had been enabled unintentionally while carrying out fixes for Minthara, which meant that some players had been able to view dialogue where Minthara would seemingly end a relationship with Dark Urge players if they had resisted their urges and made a certain choice in Act III.

There’s good news for Xbox players, too! Today’s hotfix also brings both Hotfixes #20 and #21 to your platform, which means issues with cross-saves should now be resolved. Thank you again for your patience while we worked to fix the issue, and we’re sorry for any inconvenience it may have caused you (and your saves!).

If you’re experiencing any issues after installing this latest hotfix, please check whether the issue still persists with all mods uninstalled. If you continue to experience this issue after uninstalling mods, please contact our support team and submit a full report to help us solve your issue.

We continue to work on further fixes and patches, but in the meantime, thank you for playing Baldur’s Gate 3!

  • Fixed a crash caused by the game trying to access the duration of a condition on a character with no conditions set.

  • Fixed conditions sometimes trying to get their duration from the source entity instead of the target entity.

  • Fixed some potential internal crashes on Xbox when suspending the game (e.g. when suspending the console or loading another game), causing it to reboot when you went back to it.

UI
  • Improved the messaging for syncing and cross-saving by indicating when a cross-save sync has failed and adding an option to try again. Also prevented the saving and cross-saving messages from appearing for secondary local players.

  • Voice chat will no longer overlap the minimap on split-screen.

  • Fixed the 'Another Player Is Joining' pop-up not triggering while the host has a panel open on Xbox, potentially preventing the client from joining.

SCRIPTING
  • Fixed an issue where legacy dialogue had been enabled unintentionally as part of another line of fixes, in which Minthara would seemingly end a relationship with Dark Urge players who had rejected Bhaal.

  • Made Minthara promise to stop repeating her thoughts about Gale in Act III.

  • Fixed a bug causing you to get perpetually stuck in a dangerous area if you triggered hostilities in the Emerald Grove and then left while it was still a dangerous area.

  • Fixed a rare issue where dialogues would end suddenly when you went to kiss your romantic partner.

  • Fixed a bug causing you to get stuck in combat with the enemies on top of Moonrise Towers if you found a way to sneak into the Mind Flayer Colony.

Changed
  • Enabled multiselection in the Trade UI for keyboard and mouse and fixed 'Buy Back' prices

  • Fixed a multiplayer bug causing your character to get stuck if you have the Eavesdrop option active and try to pick a lock at the same time as another player triggers a cinematic dialogue
  • Fixed a crash during the transition between a dialogue with Dame Aylin and Shadowheart's dream about her childhood

  • Made the 'Sell Wares' and 'Offer Wares' buttons work for all party members in a trading session instead of just the character with the wares in their inventory

  • Fixed 'Send To' not showing camp characters in the context menu when selecting multiple items
  • Selling a container to a trader and then swapping to a different character in the Trade/Barter UI no longer allows you to use 'Take All' to transfer the trader's stock to your inventory
  • Fixed a bug letting you place equipment into incompatible equipment slots
  • Fixed long Waypoint names sometimes clipping in the map on keyboard and mouse
  • Fixed a bug where rebinding the left mouse button would remove its functionality, preventing you from clicking
  • Fixed the 'Sort By' function not working properly for containers and inventories when sorting by the same filter twice in a row
  • Fixed the 'Sort By' function not working for corpse inventories
  • Fixed an exploit that could give you free items from a trader by quickly escaping the Trade UI while dragging an item to the Barter UI inventory
  • Fixed the Upcast view on the hotbar closing prematurely when you change your Upcast selection, forcing you to choose the maximum number of targets and also fixed the hotbar incorrectly reflecting the current spell state after you change your Metamagic selection

Hello everyone,

A nice new hotfix is now available for Baldur’s Gate 3 on PC, PS5, and Mac, taking aim at several bugs, crashes, and blockers. We’ve also restored the ability to send items to specific camp companions while outside of camp - so feel free to send all your heavy items to Karlach for easy access. She can handle the strain, don’t worry.

Xbox players, Hotfixes #20 and #21 are still undergoing testing for your platform. We found a crash bug exclusive to your platform, so we’re taking the time to investigate and solve that issue, so your future adventures go a little smoother. Unfortunately, this means that currently, cross-saves will not be loadable on Xbox if they come from platforms that have already been updated to Hotfixes #20 or #21. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and are working to bring these hotfixes to Xbox as soon as possible.

As with previous updates, if you’re experiencing any issues after installing this latest hotfix, please check whether the issue still persists with all mods uninstalled. If you continue to experience this issue after uninstalling mods, please contact our support team and submit a full report to help us solve your issue.

We continue to work on further fixes and patches, but in the meantime, thank you for playing Baldur’s Gate 3!

  • Fixed Wyll's quest not starting when you recruit him by replacing another companion with him.

  • Fixed the 'Enemy of Justice' condition applying to your player character upon reaching Créche Y'llek or the Shadow-Cursed Lands if you knocked out Minthara in a previous region, or upon reaching the Lower City if you killed a guard at Moonrise Towers and Araj Oblodra witnessed it.

  • Fixed a bug where the game would not realise knocked-out Minthara had been defeated in Act I if you took a Long Rest between knocking her out and defeating the other goblin leaders.

Hello everyone,

We have another hotfix for you today, fixing several bugs, issues, and blockers.

Was Minthara exercising perhaps a little too much independence? We’ve fixed an issue where everyone’s favourite drow would simply decide to not follow the party in Act II or Act III. You should find her more willing to fall in line now - at least in terms of keeping up. She’s still something of a free spirit.

Mac players, you’ll be pleased to hear that this hotfix brings the full release of Patch 6 and subsequent hotfixes to the platform, so kiss without delay. Thank you for your patience!

As with previous updates, if you’re experiencing issues after installing the latest hotfix, please check whether the issue persists with your mods uninstalled. If you continue to experience issues after uninstalling mods, please contact our support team with your report.

We’re continuing to work on further fixes and patches, but in the meantime, thank you for supporting us and playing Baldur’s Gate 3!

We’re still working on bringing Patch 6 to Mac players, and will update you all when we’re closer to release.

Ah, two days after Valentine’s Day. Cupid has shot his arrows, the chocolates have gone on sale, and the flowers have started to wilt. The perfect time to release a patch!

Patch 6 for Baldur’s Gate 3 launches today, and it’s packed full of quality-of-life improvements, fixes, and a little bit of romance. The full extent of today’s update has once again been defeated by the Steam character limit, so if you want to dive into the full notes, head to the official website (https://baldursgate3.game/news/patch-6-now-live_108).

Still reading? Excellent, on with the show.

Love Is in the Air

Watch out for garlic breath.

We’ve made improvements to locking lips with your chosen romantic partner! All characters now have unique kisses that reflect their personality, with an emphasis on the plural. These kisses are randomised and vary from the incredibly romantic to… uh, a little more intense. Kisses have also been improved for shorter and taller body types, so embrace without delay.

A forehead kiss for tender moments or for when there’s a bit of food stuck to your eyebrow.

In addition to improved smooches, we’ve also improved some of our endgame cinematics to better reflect the connection between players and their partners - love truly has been in the air in the office, or perhaps it’s something in our air fresheners.

Every Whittle Helps: New Camp Animations & Improvements

_Keep at it, Halsin. _

Whilst exploring your campsite, you’ll notice new idle animations for some of your companions. Not everyone enjoys standing around, and these behaviours should help your campsite feel more alive. Though, we wouldn’t interrupt Shadowheart when she’s polishing her spear. In addition, you’ll now be able to dismiss a party member while speaking to the party member you want to replace them with - so no more going back and forth like a Machiavellian party planner!

Improvements and Fixes Galore

Have fun.

Patch 6 isn’t all ambience and canoodling, though. We’ve fixed a deluge of player-reported issues (Shield Bash fans, rejoice!), and made several tweaks and improvements to the game. If you’re playing in Honour Mode, expect a few extra surprises in the form of new Legendary Actions for bosses, and maybe a bit of extra trouble from a certain Mound. Good luck with that one.

We’ve also made some improvements to speaker selection. When dialogue triggers automatically, the game will now try to prioritise your avatar as the main speaker - so your party members should have less main character syndrome when clearly you’re the star of the show.

We continue to work on future updates to Baldur’s Gate 3, with further improvements, fixes, and patches yet to come, but before we dive into the full highlights for Patch 6, a warning about mods! If you experience issues after installing our latest update, please check whether the issue persists with mods uninstalled. Currently, mods aren’t officially supported, so some mods may become temporarily incompatible with new patches and hotfixes. If you continue to have issues after uninstalling all mods (yes, even that one), please reach out to our support team.

Patch 6 will be going live today on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, and will require approximately 150GB of free space to install for those playing on PC and Steam Deck. If you find yourself without the space to install the update, we recommend uninstalling BG3 and then re-downloading the patched version.

We know Mac players will be keen to get hands-on with the latest fixes and improvements, but we’ll have to ask that you sit tight for a little longer while we continue to work on bringing future updates to Mac alongside PC versions. We truly appreciate your patience, and are sorry for the inconvenience. We’ll keep you updated with our progress, so make sure you’re following us on Twitter and Facebook to see when Patch 6 will drop for you!

HIGHLIGHTS
  • You can now dismiss a recruited companion from your party while speaking to the companion you want to replace them with.

  • When a dialogue triggers automatically, the game will now try to prioritise your avatar character as the main speaker.

  • Your partner now has a few different kisses! They're brand new, unique, and randomised - and we’ve also made improvements to how kisses look across the board, particularly for taller and shorter body types.

  • Improved the cinematic scenes in the Elfsong Tavern to feel more intimate when you and your romance partner decide your future together after defeating the Netherbrain.

  • Reworked the reflection scenes that take place after wrapping up the defeat of the Netherbrain for characters without romantic partners to better match the scenes for those who do have romantic partners, and to bridge the gap into the epilogue.

  • Added a new cinematic scene to support the combat encounter that occurs after you choose whether to side with Nightsong at Sorcerous Sundries or not.

  • If you sit on the stool in Shadowheart's camp corner, she will now react to you with a line based on your relation with her.

  • Added new idle animations for some companions at camp, including:

  • Lae'zel: Studying a githyanki disc.

  • Minthara: Contemplating a skull, tending to mushrooms, expressing violence, adjusting her armour, plotting her future, and being bothered by the sun.

  • Jaheira: Sitting, kneeling and whispering to a rat messenger, and whittling.

  • Minsc: Cooking and shaving his head. (These are two separate animations. Although we wouldn't put it past him, he's not, in fact, cooking his head.)

  • Shadowheart: Polishing the Spear of Night.

  • Halsin: Whittling.

  • If you started your game on a set difficulty, you can now switch to Custom Mode (except when already playing Honour Mode).

  • Fixed an issue that would prevent travel between acts.

  • Fixed an issue causing quicksaves to fail to upload to cross-saves.

  • Characters in the epilogue camp party will now have fitting titles below their names.

  • Fixed the Shield Bash and Rebuke of the Mighty passives not triggering Saving Throws.

  • Added light bar colours for the DualSense controller on PC.

  • If you romanced Lae'zel, grab a red dragon and saddle up - you can now join her in the rebellion against Vlaakith, even if you are not gith yourself.

  • Fixed graphic settings not being applied for some 4k monitors.

  • Fixed a crash on Xbox that would sometimes occur when starting or ending a game.

Gameplay
  • You can now toggle off Repelling Blast as expected.

  • If you Long Rest with only alcohol as camp supplies, you will now get the new Hungover condition for 10 turns.

  • Auto-selecting your camp supplies before a Long Rest will use resources more optimally - sometimes you just don't feel like cooking.

  • The Long Rest camp supply menu is now better at pulling supplies from inside containers in companion inventories. Stop hoarding the cheese, Wyll.

  • Group Hide now works on all party members controlled by the player, including followers and summons.

  • Made it possible to dismiss party members during camp nights. Also made it possible to recruit hirelings to a full party - they'll hang around at camp until you need them.

  • You can now talk to the circus bard Medrash and get a short but enthusiastic response from him.

  • The owlbear cub will no longer gobble up Auntie Ethel's Hair before you can take advantage of the bonus it grants.

  • The Elixir of Hill Giant Strength now applies its effects when thrown.

  • Creating harmful surfaces beneath NPCs will now trigger a crime reaction.

  • Scratch can no longer equip certain weapons. Like the Everburn Blade.

  • Added the option to scale the density of crowds on Xbox.

  • As a quality-of-life improvement, the Pact Weapon condition now remains after a Long Rest.

Combat
  • The Shambling Mound is now a fully-fledged Honour Mode boss,

  • with brand new bespoke Legendary Actions and tuned-up abilities. Good luck.

  • The drider and Dror Ragzlin have new Legendary Actions in Honour Mode!

  • In Tactician Mode, the drider has a special Sanctuary, called Spindleweb Sanctuary, that erupts in a psychic explosion when the status condition ends. In addition, his Spindleweb Fanaticism aura will now debuff his enemies.

  • In Tactician Mode, Dror Ragzlin's Leadership Aura will now also debuff his enemies.

  • Jaheira could be in bad shape by the time she arrived at Moonrise Towers since she already had to fight. Now she's smart enough to heal up before she goes there, which we're hoping lets her last at least an additional second in combat.

  • The Frightened condition applied by Ketheric's Dreadful Aspect will now correctly end if the combat with Ketheric ends before the condition does. (This will also fix other similar cases.)

  • Improved combat AI pathfinding through dangerous surfaces and through steep terrain.

Flow and Scripting
  • Increased the number of valid methods of knocking Minthara out to recruit her.

  • Halsin no longer blames the goblins for his death in his Speak with Dead dialogue if he managed to get killed much later on.

  • Fixed a case where the lanceboard scene between Raphael and Mol would never trigger because of the script being too defensive when checking Raphael's current in-game state.

  • You can finally tell Halsin that you found that letter that was sent to Kagha.

  • Wyll will react accordingly if you fail to save Ravengard from the Iron Throne when the pact with Mizora is broken.

  • Fixed an issue preventing you from talking to Mayrina after the fight with the hag.

  • Fixed an issue that could lead to the game being stuck on Flind's turn if another player entered combat with her while her dialogue was ongoing

UI
  • The trade interface got a graphic overhaul, clarifying which character is bartering for the party, what their Persuasion score is, and how much of a discount they're getting for the trade. The feedback when bartering has also been improved to indicate the status of the offer.

  • The whole party's inventory is now present in the trade interface, which doesn't require you to switch characters to sell their items from their inventories anymore.

  • You can now change the size of text in books and other legible items in the Interface Options.

  • Updated the interface visuals for the Options and Difficulty menus.

  • Renamed the 'Class Passives' panel for sorcerers on level up to 'Metamagic' and added a description for it. This was to make the naming more precise, given that all the class passives for sorcerers are Metamagic and the main level up window already tells you that they're passives.

  • Renamed the 'Camp Companions' button to 'Camp Inventories' to more clearly indicate what it does.

  • Added the Custom Mode settings to the Lobby UI, giving you time to create your personalised experience while waiting for your friends. (And also giving you time to argue amongst yourselves while coming to a compromise.)

  • Camp chests are now integrated into the Camp Inventories UI.

  • Fixed incorrect button prompts and mappings showing for Switch Pro Controller on PC.

  • Reverse-pickpocketing (planting things into others' inventories) should now work correctly on controller.

  • Improved how the combat log indicates XP gain. Now, if everyone in the party gains XP from several different sources at the same time - like when you Fireball a bunch of rats - you'll get one entry in the combat log with the calculated total XP gained, rather than separate entries for each XP, clogging up the whole log.

  • Added sub-sorting to throwable items on the Hotbar so the most recently picked-up items will appear first.

Writing
  • When faced with certain choices after the Netherbrain is defeated, you can now tell Lae'zel to make her own decision.

  • Added additional Avatar Karlach and Avatar Astarion reactivity within God Gale's dialogues in the epilogue, allowing them to request a cure for their conditions.

  • Added some new lines to Minthara's epilogue dialogue to account for different paths where the player character has partnered up with her.

  • Added some extra Narrator lines for the Dark Urge when interacting with Gortash in his office.

  • Added new dialogues and reactivity for Lae'zel regarding the githyanki egg from Crèche Y'llek.

  • If Gale is a mind flayer in the endgame when returning to Elysium with Mystra, she will now transform him back into a human.

  • Rephrased some journal entries to account for NPCs being knocked out instead of killed.

  • If you're romancing Shadowheart in Act II, she'll have more banter as you're walking around.

Cinematics
  • You can now give Shadowheart a hug when she's crying after losing or saving her parents.

  • Gale can now kiss your hand if you agree to marry him. This scene was also improved with a new intro and outro.

  • Added a new version of the kissing scene with Astarion after he Ascends.

Sound
  • Fixed Gortash's Speak with Dead dialogue missing its VO.

  • Fixed the Main Menu audio not starting for several seconds on Xbox, and sometimes playing in the game.

  • Fixed the Character Creation music not triggering until the tutorial.

  • Fixed dice roll sounds playing if you have the 'Hide Failed Perception Rolls' setting enabled while exploring. We asked the narrator to quieten down when rolling the dice for your immersion.

UPDATE 26/01/2024: This Hotfix is now live for Mac players!

Hello everyone,

Thank you for playing Baldur’s Gate 3.

PERFORMANCE AND CODE
  • Black and colourful visual artefacts sometimes appearing for 1 frame on PS5 when switching scenes or opening and closing UI windows.

  • [Fix Submitted] Error 544

We have increased the compression of savegames, which should fix several issues caused by large savegame files, including some instances of the Error 544 message. We have also reduced the size of save files by removing summons that don't exist in the game anymore.

  • Guarded against crashes caused when certain character resources (Actions, Bonus Actions, Superiority Dice, etc.) were added and later removed by a mod or cheat engine.
GAMEPLAY AND COMBAT
  • In Honour Mode, the aura of Cazador's Potent Mist Form now properly dissipates after he's no longer in Mist Form. Sorry!

  • The camera sometimes zooming in while jumping or casting projectile spells.

  • The ability to walk through open doors when you click beyond them from far away.

  • Thieves' Tools in the camp chest or inventory of a companion who is waiting at camp not being accessible when lockpicking.

UI
  • Safeguard Shield's Saving Throw modifier is now correctly reflected on the Character Sheet.
FLOW AND SCRIPTING
  • Gale will no longer permanently leave the party if you don't offer him any magic items while talking to him – unless you're abundantly clear that you don't plan on ever doing so.

This is a temporary bug fix that aims to avoid Gale immediately leaving the party when players are unable to hand over an item. In Hotfix #16, we began the process of updating a player’s ability to access certain quest-related items, even if they were in the camp chest, or in the inventory of a companion waiting at camp.

However, the UI through which items can be donated to Gale has not yet been updated, which meant that the dialogue could be triggered if the items were available elsewhere, but would not show in the UI to be donated. This risked placing players in a situation where Gale expected an item from them, and they were unable to provide one.

With this initial fix, closing the UI or using any line other than “I’m not giving you anything. Not now, not ever” will prevent Gale from immediately abandoning your party, until the UI logic has been updated.

If you’re keen to give Gale the boot, and don’t have an actual shoe to share in your inventory, selecting “I’m not giving you anything. Not now, not ever”, will still cause Gale to leave your party, permanently!

  • characters getting stuck 'in a story event', preventing you from controlling them, after getting killed in the fight with Grym.

UPDATE 26/01/2024: This Hotfix is now live for Mac players!

Hello everyone,

Happy New Year! We’re kicking off 2024 with a sizeable hotfix, handling multiple bugs, issues, and blockers. Have your party members been hoarding trinkets? Did you accidentally send Minthara’s lute to your camp supplies, thinking nobody could possibly need a lute in this day and age? In this hotfix, you will now be able to access certain quest-related items on the spot - even if they’re not held by your current party! How’s that for magic pockets?

Mac players, we're currently restructuring to ensure that future updates on Mac will arrive alongside their PC versions. It'll take a bit of time but once finished, there shouldn't be delays anymore. For the time being, we expect a delay for updates of a maximum of two weeks. We're sorry for the inconvenience and understand this is frustrating. Thank you for your patience.

Please note that with new patches and hotfixes, some installed mods may become temporarily incompatible. If you experience any issues after installing the latest update, please check if the issue persists with all mods uninstalled. If it persists, please reach out to our support team with your report.

Thank you for taking the time to submit these issues to us. If you have any bugs to report, please reach out to our support team. Thank you for playing Baldur’s Gate 3!

**HIGHLIGHTS **

  • The cross-save functionality will no longer sync modded saves, as they cannot be accessed by console players.

  • Added categories to the Waypoints list, grouping Waypoints by location.

  • You will now be able to access certain quest-related items on the spot, even if they are currently in the camp chest or in the inventory of a companion who is waiting at camp.

  • Added a couple of Potions of Animal Speaking to the Epilogue.

  • Karlach will now get her scene in Avernus regardless of whether she's an avatar or a companion.

  • Wyll will now follow Karlach to Avernus correctly.

  • Fixed the Hide Helmet option resetting for companions after saving and loading.

  • Cazador now has 3 variations of his Legendary Action depending on how many Ritual charges he has. The more charges he has, the more dangerous his Vampiric Swarm is.

  • Fixed several issues with low resolution textures appearing after extended playtimes.

  • Fixed a visual bug where certain doors would reappear briefly when destroyed.

  • Fixed Gale's dialogue ending abruptly when asking him for a kiss. Enjoy the moment.

**CRASHES AND BLOCKERS **

  • Fixed a potential crash related to quickloading.

  • Fixed a crash that would occur when unloading and then loading a region.

  • Fixed a crash when changing VSync settings.

  • Fixed a crash when destroying the spiderweb under the Spider Matriarch.

  • Fixed the potential cause of not being able to save the game (Error 701, crashing the game).

  • Fixed a crash that could happen when showing a pop-up message after lockpicking an item.

  • Fixed an issue that was causing the grenade launchers during Gortash's fight to bypass Turn-Based Mode and deploy grenades in real-time, which could result in a crash. We call that cheating.

  • Fixed a crash that would occur when removing condition-based auras from modded savegames.

  • Fixed a possible crash when getting the available party gold during a trade.

  • Fixed some issues that could prevent savegames made under rare conditions from loading up.

**COMBAT AND BALANCE **

  • The Spectral Form passive is no longer hidden.

  • Fixed Balthazar's Spectral Form not triggering when Balthazar succeeded in a Saving Throw but still got damaged.

  • Fixed Auntie Ethel not using Weird Magic Surge when struck by Repelling Blast in Honour Mode.

  • Fixed the scrying eyes' damage mitigation mechanic in Tactician Mode not working the first time they are damaged.

  • In Tactician difficulty, Cazador now transforms into a unique mist form that threatens his foes with a necrotic aura.

  • Ability Drain will not be able to reduce a target's ability below 1.

  • Improved the way Legendary Resistance works, now only triggering when it is actually useful.

**GAMEPLAY **

  • Fixed Astarion not being available through the companion menu at camp if you sent him directly to camp during the recruitment dialogue.

  • In Honour Mode, the Eggbearer condition is now also applied when the mummy owlbear is dead but the daddy owlbear is alive.

  • Fixed an issue in Honour Mode where the damage from Smite spells wouldn't trigger items that activate when damaged.

  • You can no longer trade with Grukkoh the bugbear via the dialogue button before you've, uh, caught his attention.

  • Using a weapon that uses your Spellcasting Ability Modifier instead of the normal Ability Modifier will now choose the Spellcasting Ability with the highest value.

  • Fixed Group Hide not working properly when a party character is Downed.

  • Myrmidons' weapons cannot be looted from their bodies after Long Rest anymore.

  • Fixed the Elemental Weapon, Magic Weapon, Heat Metal, and Daylight conditions persisting on the weapon after a Long Rest.

  • Fixed an issue that would affect some players controlling more than one avatar, which caused several naked characters to appear over them after the first Dream Visitor dream.

  • Fixed an issue where reconnecting to a multiplayer session would assign a player an avatar in Withers' Wardrobe without taking said avatar out of the wardrobe. They don't open from the inside!

  • Stealing a couple hundred items in one go no longer results in the game becoming unresponsive for quite some time afterwards while it deals with your kleptomaniac overindulgence. It may still freeze for a short period while processing the inventory transfer, though.

  • NPCs on the floor below you, can no longer 'see' you looting corpses up there.

  • When handing back stackable stolen items (such as healing potions), you will no longer lose all of them, but only the number you stole.

**FLOW AND SCRIPTING **

  • Fixed an issue preventing some players from advancing into Act III, looping them back to Act II.

  • Barcus Wroot should now show up correctly at Last Light Inn if you have saved him from his previous predicaments.

  • Fixed avatar Karlach being able to initiate the first romance scene with Lae'zel after proving her worth to Lae'zel, which should not be possible for her due to her engine still not being upgraded.

  • Tweaked the trigger conditions for Lae'zel's initial romance dialogue after proving your worth to her so that it only triggers if the player controlling her has a single avatar. This is to avoid accidentally triggering the dialogue with an unintended avatar in case you have multiple.

  • Fixed some wrong character behaviours likely introduced in Patch 4.

  • Fixed an issue preventing some dialogue options with Alfira and Nadira from showing up.

  • Fixed Auntie Ethel prematurely teleporting to Act III if you pick up her corpse in Act I.

  • Gale is now less likely to lie to you about wanting to return the Crown of Karsus when making his decision in the endgame.

  • Raphael will no longer make a surprise appearance during the Epilogue if you made a deal with him and then decided to kill him.

  • Wyll will now appear during the initial Epilogue scene if he's the Blade of Avernus and does not have a partner.

  • Fixed a couple of issues with Mizora's dialogue getting stuck.

  • Fixed a blocker in the House of Hope in which Raphael wouldn't appear if he was Silenced in Sharess' Caress.

  • Fixed a blocker where you were able to banish Hope while she's chained, preventing you from saving her.

  • The avatar dismissal dialogue will now be closed if the user rejoins the session while it is still active.

  • Duke Ravengard will now correctly hold the bars of his cell door while imprisoned in the Iron Throne instead of staying idle, seemingly unbothered by everything going on.

  • Characters that are attacked while disappearing out of sight will now resume their disappearing after combat ends. Back to the shadows with you.

  • Fixed '(Empty)' sometimes briefly appearing next to an item's name when highlighting it on Xbox.

  • Fixed a caching issue in the radial menus. This could, for instance, cause some Disguise Self options to not appear after cancelling and returning to the spell.

  • Fixed surface names sometimes appearing above characters on controller.

  • Increased the opacity of certain text boxes in the Reactions UI on controller to improve visibility.

Japanese language is now available for PC on Steam and PS5 (in Japan only). We continue to work to bring it to other platforms!

**Update: **Mac players, Patch 5 is now live on Steam with Hotfix 14!

Hello everyone,

Patch 5 is now live for Baldur’s Gate 3! Today’s patch is our most feature-filled update yet, and we’ve prepared a special Community Update to really do it justice. For a deep dive into Patch 5, head here.

This update brings brand new epilogues, new game modes and much more - including improved inventory access. No more recruiting and dismissing party members to get ahold of that clown corpse they’ve been holding on to for you. Thanks, Karlach!

Patch 5 is also so beefy, it has once again been defeated by the Steam character limit. Head to the following link to witness the notes in their magnificent splendour. We recommend reading over them with a nice mug of something warm, next to a roaring fire.

Please note that with new patches, some installed mods may become temporarily incompatible. If you experience any issues after installing Patch 5, please check if the issue persists with all mods uninstalled. If it persists, please reach out to our support team with your report.

Without further ado, here are your Patch 5 highlights. Thank you for all your feedback, and thank you for playing Baldur’s Gate 3.

Hello everyone,

We’ve got a new hotfix for you today, addressing several bugs, visual issues and blockers.

Have you ever had a romance so intense, that everything melts away? Well, sometimes that isn’t intentional. We’ve fixed an issue where Gale’s romance scene was playing in what looked like some kind of black void. Consider the ambience restored.

We are aware of an issue with kissing animations for Astarion, and are currently working on a fix. We expect this to be released in a future update. Thank you for all your reports and messages, and thank you for playing Baldur’s Gate 3! If you have any bugs to report, please reach out to our support team.

Update 10/11/2023: Hotfix 10 is now live for Mac!

Hello everyone,

We’ve got a hotfix for you today, addressing some visual issues and bugs.

This hotfix corrects an issue where Astarion’s voice wasn’t quite following what he was supposed to say during dialogues.

Speaking of following, we’ve also asked Shadowheart to stop getting distracted by the wonderful vistas of the Sword Coast. She should now follow along with the rest of the team.

We still need to do some testing on Mac, and the Hotfix will be live for the platform soon.

We continue to look into your reports and are working on further fixes.

Thank you for taking the time to submit these issues to us. If you have any bugs to report, please reach out to our support team. Thank you for playing Baldur’s Gate 3!
