Changelog

6.6.1Latest

Version 6.6.1

Changed 3
  • CPU usage is lower in general, particularly when using live mode
  • In live mode, the menu bar settles faster and performs fewer operations to get your bar into the correct order
  • Battery usage is reduced overall, with the lower power usage on battery setting providing additional reduction at the cost of delayed live updates
Fixed 4
  • Memory usage no longer creeps up over longer sessions for users with triggers enabled
  • Triggers update more reliably
  • Leaving open the layout page no longer causes memory usage to stay high after editing your bar
  • Layout page no longer shows disappearing icons when moving things around or after leaving the app open for a while

From Bartender

Release Notes

Bartender 6.6.1 The latest build of Bartender is focused on improving two key areas - stability in live mode, and overall performance. We've revamped the layout page to fix strange issues like missing images, or items disappearing mid/post moves. Bartender has the lowest memory & CPU usage we've recorded despite the larger workload required to manage the bar on Tahoe. Fixes

  • Memory usage should no longer creep up over longer sessions for users with triggers enabled.
  • Triggers should "update" more reliably.
  • Leaving open the layout page will no longer cause memory usage to stay high after editing your bar.
  • The layout page should no longer see "disappearing icons" when moving things around, or after leaving the app open for a while.
  • CPU usage should be lower in general, but in particular when using live mode.
  • In live mode, the menu bar should "settle" faster, and perform far fewer operations to get your bar into the correct order.
  • Battery usage should be reduced overall, but enabling the "lower power usage on battery" setting will lower this further, at the cost of some live updates being delayed. Generally this delay shouldn't be noticeable unless you're updating your menu bar constantly. If you face any issues with this update, or want to share a feature request, please reach out to us. Added 2
  • Top Shelf & Bartender Pro are now available in Bartender Pro

Changed 2

  • Fixed an issue causing indexing to stop working on Macs under memory pressure
  • Decreased resource usage for the indexing & sorting process
  • Improved indexing for known problematic items
  • When using Live mode, Bartender ignores un-indexed items until their identity is resolved, resulting in fewer mouse clicks

Release Notes

Bartender 6.5.1 This update for Bartender introduces Top Shelf & Bartender Pro, refines the on-demand layout experience, improves the look and feel of menu item groups, and brings back some favourite features from older versions of Bartender (yes, we've brought back swapping items from Bartender 4). New

  • Top Shelf & Bartender Pro are now available in Bartender Pro - learn more here. Mega Supporters have access included already, just head to settings and turn it on.
  • Under Advanced settings, you can now enable swapping items to make room. You can swap shown items when there isn't enough space to show hidden items, every time you click the bar, or never.
  • When items are in a group, they will now show in a separate "Grouped Items" section in the layout screen, instead of being shown under "Always Hidden" and unmovable. You can edit or delete a group by clicking on it, and you can still move them around in the normal sections.
  • When on-demand layout is enabled, Bartender will now auto-move the items you move, instead of moving them all and hitting sort each time. It will also show whether your bar is currently organized or not. Fixes
  • When using on-demand layout, items should no longer bounce back to old positions, and you are no longer required to hit "sort my bar". If a large number of items are out of place, you'll still be asked to request sort.
  • Fixed an issue causing indexing to stop working on Macs under memory pressure.
  • Decreased resource usage for the indexing & sorting process.
  • Improved indexing for known problematic items.
  • When using Live mode, Bartender will ignore un-indexed items until their identity is resolved, resulting in fewer mouse clicks.
  • Fixed an issue causing Widgets to sometimes not show in the sidebar.
  • Fixed a duplicate About/License listing in the sidebar.
  • Fixed a sporadic launch crash for some users.
  • Fixed a crash that can occur when leaving Bartender & the Mac running for long periods of time. If you face any issues with this update, or want to share a feature request, please reach out to us. [email protected]

Bartender 6

Meet Bartender 6 - re-engineered from the ground up for performance & compatibility with macOS Tahoe. DesignBartender has a whole new glassy look, designed to fit right in on Tahoe. PerformanceBartender is faster than ever, moving your items faster, and performing less moves when it does. Applying presets with huge changes will only take a couple seconds. Widgets (beta) Widgets let you create your own menu bar items, with no code required. From monitoring cpu usage, to controlling system settings, and even your favorite music player, it’s all available for you to play with. If you’re looking to get something really custom, you can also setup scripts to have them do anything. Layout Overflowing beyond the notch or left menu has been updated to automatically pop those items, and when the hidden bar won’t fit, we’ll show Bartender bar instead, so you can still see all your items. Styles We’ve added a whole new set of styles on Tahoe, including glass, and restoring classic bar styles. You can get back that sequoia look, create a glassy round bar, and more. Preview

Please write in with any issues you see! You can get in touch with us via support@macbartender.com

We’re aware of a couple issues we’re aiming to fix as soon as possible - mostly related to styling.

  • Styles don’t display as expected on Sequoia
  • Material styles can flicker or apply darker than expected
  • Some styles don’t apply consistently
  • Separate pills don’t update in real-time, and sometimes show at the wrong length on a second display
