Public Experimental Branch Now Available

Hey Creativerse players,

Starting today, we're opening up our Experimental branch to everyone.

This branch contains upcoming changes and new features that we're actively developing. Because there's a lot of new content (and potential for unexpected side effects), we're making it publicly available first so players can try it early, give feedback, and report issues before we roll anything into the live build.

Please read before you opt in

Experimental is a testing branch and may be unstable:

  • Features may be incomplete, change rapidly, or never make it to live

  • Experimental builds may contain bugs, performance issues, or unexpected behavior

  • Using the same world on Live and Experimental may cause problems. We strongly recommend backing up worlds and keeping separate test worlds for Experimental

If you want the most stable experience, stay on the live branch.

How to join the Experimental branch
  • Right-click Creativerse in your Steam Library

  • Select Properties

  • Open the Betas tab

  • Enter the password under Private Betas: experimental

  • Use the dropdown menu to switch between the live and experimental branches

Steam will download the Experimental build automatically.

Patch notes & updates

Experimental patch notes so far: Google Document

New update announcements will be posted on the Creativerse Discord.

Reporting bugs

If you run into issues while playing Experimental, please report them on Discord or in the existing Steam bug report forums and mention that you're on the Experimental branch.

Thanks for playing Creativerse, and we look forward to your feedback!

Creativerse Update — Aug 2023

Hello Creators,

We’re back with another decent sized Creativerse update! This time we’ve focused a lot on quality of life improvements, with an overhauled settings menu that finally unshackles post-processing effects like depth of field, color grading, ambient occlusion, and more, allowing you to make them permanent (like in the featured screenshot). There’s a new Vending Machine item that you can customize to allow trades of any item for another item, so if you want to make the entire Lumite Armor set cost 5 dirt blocks, you sure can. And there’s a ton of other stuff like this – so please do check out what may be our longest patch notes ever!

Map:

New Map Warping feature! Warp to any location by clicking on the map view while holding the Sprint key…

  • Works at both zoom levels

  • Works regardless of map fog

  • You can customize the altitude at which you are teleported from the game settings Requires the following:

  • The player must enable it in the game settings (in Misc tab)

  • The player must have access to Creator Mode and the /warp command in the world

  • Added world coordinates in map view as you hover the mouse around

New Mob variant:

  • Night Truffl!

Game settings / preferences:

  • Completely new settings interface!

  • Settings menu now includes all preferences, including post-processing options only available in Photo Mode or via chat commands or manually altering a configuration file

  • For example, you can now have on by default settings like tilt-shift, the kuwahara effect, high contrast, vignettes, etc.

  • Added an editor for custom paint values

  • Allow the settings window to be manually resized

  • Increased max Target Framerate from 120 to 240

  • Fixed Shadow Quality changes not getting applied on the fly

  • Added setting to disable map view movement with forward / back / left / right bindings to allow unusual bindings such as primary mouse button > forward (interface buttons will still work)

  • Added horizontal / vertical / sprint settings to affect movement speed when hovering in Creator Mode

  • Added setting to customize Creator Mode first / third person reach distance (i.e. how far you can pull / place blocks)

  • Added setting to allow long reach distance for wiring in Creator Mode (defaults to false)

  • Added settings to alter Camera Drone acceleration, drag, and sprint multipliers

  • Added horizontal / vertical sensitivity settings for the glider (separate settings for mouse and alpha controller)

  • Added setting to enable Map Warping (see New Map Warping feature section below)

  • Added altitude setting to be used by Map Warping

New Vending Machine / Shop Catalogs feature:

  • New Vending Machine block

  • Each placed Vending Machine can be set to use one or more Catalogs

  • Each Catalog can contain multiple Trades, where each Trade can have multiple items / blocks to be given or received

  • Each Catalog can be set as Restricted, so that only Admins / Owners can pick such Catalogs in a Vending Machine

  • Catalogs can be edited from the Vending Machine (if you have rights to do so) or from the Tools page in the Webadmin

  • No Catalogs are defined by default but there's a button to quickly create Recycling Catalogs for all Gauntlets / Weapons / Armor / Tools (by default they will give back half of the resources needed to craft such items)

  • Additional buttons to create Trades for recipes and crafts

  • You have full control over each Trade even after it's autogenerated with the above buttons

  • Allows adding Trades to be bought to a Cart and to receive the items in a Crate instead of sparse items

Additional new blocks / items:

  • Added new "almost seamless" version for the Western Log Cabin Wall blocks (old versions are still extant to avoid disrupting existing builds, and can be combined with the new versions to achieve better matching internal / external walls around a build)

  • Added Canvas Maze Straight block (only the straight pattern all around all faces)

  • Added Stucco Wall variants

  • Added Ruddy Stucco Wall variants

  • Added Dark Stucco Wall variants

  • Added 10 missing summoners

New extended grass spread feature:

  • Brown Mushrooms turn into Brown Mushroom on Grass (near Grass or other Grass-versions of the Brown Mushrooms)

  • Brown Mushrooms on Grass also cause Grass to appear onto nearby Dirt

  • Detritus and Matted Needles can spread onto Dirt as well (if Detritus, Matted Needles and Grass are fighting to spread onto the same Dirt block, one will be picked at random)

  • Note: Savannah Grass will continue spreading onto Rocky Dirt

  • Turned off by default; requires changing the option in the world settings

Alpha controller support:

  • Allow detecting input from controllers while rebinding the controls

  • Only works during gameplay; doesn't support interacting with UI

  • Note: it may still be possible to manipulate UI via Steam controller remapping

Building improvements:

  • Reduce bumping of character placing blocks too close:

  • Either you're too close and you can't place that block or you're far enough and you don't get bumped back

  • Exceptions allowed for touchstone, liquids, torches, climbing items (e.g. ladders and vines)

  • Added ability to copy blocks and BP hints while in Survival Mode (requires enabling a new preference in Misc tab)

  • Added minutes / seconds to "I have everything" message to troubleshoot NPC's loot

The Collectables Update

Hello Creators!

Turns out Thing is quite the collector, and now its collection can be yours. These shiny new figurines — which feature your favorite Creativerse mobs like Pigsy, Leafi, Chizzard, Rambeau, Rockster, Keepa, and more — will look great in your builds! So if you're feeling adventurous, head down to the Corruption Layer and fight or tame some Things to start collecting. It won't be easy but it will be worth it.

In addition, we have some new items and a bunch of improvements, including a big overhaul to loot from treasure chests, which are now way more rewarding. We've added the ability to customize the length of timers in advanced world options, so now you can process and forge everything in 1 second if you like. There’s several new chat commands that add some useful tinkering abilities. And more!

This update also removes the ability to migrate your old worlds (...end of an era). Until next time...stay creative!

  • Adjusted international prices to be more in line with games at the same price point.

Version Bump!

Apologies, but we forgot to bump the version number for the last hotfix, which would allow clients to join servers that may not be on the same data, and this can cause unpredictable issues. So this update is merely a version bump. Servers will need to update to be joinable again.

More to come later

Creativerse: The Definitive Edition

At long last, The Definitive Edition of Creativerse is here!

This update is the culmination of 8 years of development and everything our players love about the game, all in a new pay-once-play-forever package. As we explained earlier this fall, we decided to pivot away from free-to-play in this new version that removes the Playful-hosted elements and puts the entire game into your hands.

This change allowed us to make things vastly more customizable for players. Want a world with infinite stamina, a 1 second timer on all processor materials, one-hit kills on all mobs, and holiday events turned on year-round? Done. Want under-the-hood options for managing a server, its players, and backups? You got it. In fact, if this pivot proves successful, we could add support for even wilder stuff like mods. And while multiplayer will now be up to players to host, there will still be a list of public worlds to join.

On top of this, we've added a ton of new content and improvements, overhauled the core progression loop, and added a new mailbox tool for sending messages to players in other worlds. There's also a bunch of new tools for managing your world and its players, including a separate web admin interface with a lot of neat extras.

Here are 2 important details you should know:

  1. If you purchased either DLC or bought coins, this is a free update!

  2. For the next 90 days, you'll be able to migrate all of your worlds from our servers. You can also migrate any worlds other players have whitelisted for download. Please download your worlds asap and back them up, as we won't be able to recover them once the deadline has passed!

Finally, for more details, check out our (https://docs.google.com/document/d/18vQTE_AKyu-IEsxXMPbc0QFcJdZvhBkblcmz8yzzqSo/edit#heading=h.5drlcg38zjs2). And for an extensive dive into the ins and outs of this new version, check out the full guide.

  • Some are brand new, e.g. a new canvas set that is affected by both paint colors (search for "paint mix" by text)

  • Some blocks that weren’t affected by artificial lights now either get affected properly, e.g the arc vault

I can’t say just yet what they’ll be, but the team is really excited and we can’t wait to share more with you soon!

The Yeehaw Update

Howdy Creators!

Let me tell you a tale about the old west. No, not that one. I’m talking about the wild wild west of Creativerse, circa 2015, when we first added homesteading to the game. Since then, y’all have enjoyed taming and naming pets, farming and harvesting crops, and making and tasting all sorts of delicious foodstuffs. Now, as we celebrate the 5.583th anniversary of that update, we’re adding some items to really bring out the frontier in your worlds.

Whether you’re a cowboy, pioneer, farmer, rancher, outlaw, rugged individual who prefers seeing the world through sepia-tinted glasses, or just a Creativerse fan who likes new stuff, you’ll find something to enjoy. Specifically, you can find them by searching for "western" in the Creator Mode menu, or in the regular old crafting menu. Be prepared to head out to the "frontier" for some of the ingredients (or you can grab a starter pack from the store).

The best part: all recipes are 100% free! Yeeeeeehaw!

The Build-a-Buddy Update!

Hello Creators!

There’s been a lot of commotion in the Creativerse universe in the past few months… We have welcomed the arrivals of Baby Leafi, Petey the Parroki, Buzzkill, butterflies, and many more to Creativerse with curiosity. The world feels more friendly.

If you followed our weekend build challenge, you may have heard about the mysterious friendly traveller who sent letters out through the Pebble Postal Service asking if they could visit. Until today, their identities have been unknown…

We call them Villagers! While they aren't the first non-player characters to appear in Creativerse (shout out to Pumpkiru and Elfi), these friendly folks have some powerful surprises in store for you. They are out there now, in the world, waiting for you to find them. They each have their own favorite hangout spots, so you'll have to go looking for them. Once found, they will present you with a challenge. Upon completion, you will be granted a most curious reward: Programmable Villagers, which are customizable NPCs you can place anywhere you like! Villagers are eager to become extant and fill your creations with life, and they each have their own unique quirks, tastes, and things to share.

As always, we look forward to your feedback!

Happy building! _ —The Playful Team_

New Features
  • Villagers have arrived!

  • Villagers are helpful, customizable, interactable NPC friends-in-waiting.

  • Villagers have jobs that define their behavior.

  • You'll have one villager job unlocked by default: Talker

  • Additional jobs, like Miner or Logger, can be permanently unlocked by:

  • Collecting Villager Upgrade Chips from treasure chests.

  • Finding villagers in the wild and helping them.

  • Villagers will spawn in various locations, depending on their assigned job.

  • Villagers will ask you for help with a certain task. If you can complete their task, you'll permanently unlock that villager's job, and receive a Programmable Villager to use anywhere!

  • New item: Programmable Villager

  • Programmable Villagers can be placed anywhere and assigned a job to perform.

  • Point your wiring tool at a Programmable Villager's base and press your View Details shortcut ('n' by default) to customize the villager's settings.

  • Name them!

  • Customize their look!

  • Assign their job!

  • Depending on their assigned job, a villager can give you loot if their specific needs and wants are met.

  • Each job has its own set of conditions - interact with a villager and select a job from the dropdown menu to learn about the likes and/or dislikes associated with that job.

  • Depending on how well their needs are met, villagers will do their job extremely well (and give you lots of loot), do it just well enough (some loot), or, if they're totally in a bad mood, they won't do it at all!

**

  • 5 new villager jobs**

  • **Talker - **Give your talker villager numbered lines of dialogue. Then, when the talker receives a numerical input, it will output the associated line of dialogue. Great for interactive builds and adventures!

  • Unlocked by default - select 'None' from the job dropdown menu on your Programmable Villager.

  • Miner - Gathers ore from nearby nodes (without depleting them) and shares it with you.

  • Spawns in stalactite caves.

  • ** Logger -** Gathers wood, leaves, saplings, and more from nearby trees (without destroying them) and shares it with you.

  • Spawns in elderwood forests.

  • **Chef - **Cooks delicious dishes for you.

  • Spawns by desert oases.

  • **Researcher **- Shares wisdom with you via lore items like notes and chips.

  • This job can only be unlocked via Villager Upgrade Chips.

**

  • Updated Treasure Chests**

  • Added Lumite and Iron treasure chests. There is now one treasure chest corresponding with each material tier.

  • Loot has been updated for each chest, including Villager Upgrade Chips (to unlock jobs), and new lore items.

**

  • New Block**

  • Full Grass Slab - By special request of our sneak preview players! It's got grass on every side. Process grass to craft some. **

  • New Items in the Store**

  • Trainer Suit Costume - super-comfy and FREE for a limited time!

  • Villager Hat Combo - Includes a chef hat, logger hat, and researcher hat!

  • Alphi Companion - An early version of QB to float alongside you!

  • Packs of Programmable Villagers - Find these in the wild or grab 'em from the store!

Improvements
  • Several new special creatures added to support Villager tasks. Have you met Big Baby Leafi yet?

  • QuickTM potion is now craftable

  • Recipe found in treasure chests

  • Speed Potion did the same thing as QuickTM, so we changed it to a Stamina Regeneration Potion

Found footage of an early Villager traveling cyberspace en route to Creativerse. I guess he got lost because to this day, Creativerse is without a Plumber Villager….

Petey’s Eggsquisite Kitchen Kraze Update

The perfect skillet. Sunday Roast. Toast! Does this deliciousness strike your fancy? In the past few updates, we’ve gone into a bit of a frenzy cooking up new ways to spruce up your Creativerse homes with bathrooms and gardens, so it’s only logical that the kitchen came next. _Also, we were hungry. _

The Better Homes department has a tantalizing assortment of Sunday Brunch accoutrement, including a kitchen sink and refrigerator, both of which act as displays, an oven range that doubles as a cooking station, a coffee maker that gives you a burst of energy, a Heavenly Baked Hog that’s not only delicious but 100% calorie free. That’s not even the half of it — just scroll down to the patch notes and see what we mean. The wildest part? It’s all available in a bundle that is completely FREE (for a limited time).

This update’s mascot is Egghead, with whom you can delight and/or terrorize your friends with by picking up the outfit in the store. It’s perhaps an unconventional costume, but 2020 has been an unconventional year and we’re responding in kind. While you’re there you can pick up the Skillful Skillet, a weapon and frying pan all in one. Just be sure not to crack up while wearing the Egghead. You may end up as breakfast.

This update’s sidekick mascot is Petey, a new companion that you all voted on (if you didn’t, you need to follow us on social media more). Petey may be domesticated, but his wild counterparts from the Parroki genus aren’t, so keep an eye out for them. They’ll be spawning in a world near you. _ —The Playful Team _

The Garden Party Update

Creators, there’s nothing more relaxing than gardening. We love it so much we are making a party out of it (so, the opposite of relaxing).

This blooming, groovin’ Garden Party Update has_ everything_: critters, pots, plants, even a pretty dangerous shovel called Dirtslayer. You can already smell the flowers, like the Prickly Pal Cactus Plant or the succulent plant, filling up your worlds with the pure scent of life itself. No previous gardening experience required.

And of course, we can’t have plants without bees and butterflies! Along with your gardener’s essentials, we’ve added new ambient insects to the world, as well as the cutest companion you ever did see: Buzzkill. Just don’t get on his bad side.

For advanced you Creators, we’ve added four new machines to this update, including tools to make teleporting and chest access easier as well as an inventory sensor and a “math gate”. Can’t wait to see how y'all put those to use! Maybe a perilous garden maze adventure? Just thinking out loud...

Happy building!
