Keeping your head cool is an automated process with Module 33, Biting Cold, where the temperatures drop and rise on the go. Explore the Reghed Edge, where beleaguered people struggle and need your help. Conquer Heroic Encounters over shared zones, survive the freezing cold of the Encroached Frost and beat the Jotunskar Dungeon’s bosses! It's time to get into Biting Cold, a good reason to introduce some of our team members to you!

_“I had just received an urgent call for aid from our old friends over in Icewind Dale. _

_Remote camps at the edge of the Reghed Glacier and the Sea of Moving Ice reported strange activities plaguing their homes. Nightmares, warped creatures, and disappearances have forced people to brave the freezing cold to Ten-Towns for help. The Speakers reached out to us to see if you could journey to one of these camps and find out what's going on.” _

In the freezing lands, north of Icewind Dale, lies The Reghed Edge, where the Reghed Glacier nearly touches the Sea of Moving Ice. According to the people there, strange events are unfolding. The warm season has stretched unseasonably long, thawing ancient glaciers. Frost giants and other monsters have been seen far closer to their seasonal camp than ever before. Disturbing dreams come to them, driving them to madness.

The land suffers. Corruption eats into every corner, rousing the old magic. There are many things here that should never be disturbed. A dense forest draped in snow, populated by dangerous creatures. Buried ruins, slightly revealing themselves by shards of blue light. Howling winds carry whispers of madness, and something ancient stirs beneath the ice. Frost giant warbands and savage beasts roam the wastes as players press deeper into a land where the truth is buried as surely as the past itself.

It is time for adventurers to gather their thickest clothes, to investigate a frozen frontier gripped by unnatural shifts in weather.

**Behind the scenes: ** Designing this new adventure zone has been mainly in Jan Olcina's hands, who previously worked on a variety of Heroic Encounters and who was also responsible for leading Red Harvest II: The Soul Collector’s zone in the intended direction. The narrative design has been the responsibility of Pawida ‘Chess’ de Borde, implementing Neverwinter's lore, voice lines and everything story-related since Red Harvest. Biting Cold’s questline eventually brings you in a separate instance environment built by Georgi Valkov and Mark Tchaipunt, growing the strength of the new zone’s team.

_Concept Art for the Reghed Edge, created by Lucca Medeiros. _

Upon entering the Reghed Edge, the first thing you will notice is Margherita Lucchi’s work. From a fully detailed village to a big forest, our environmental artist brought Biting Cold alive. It proved quite a challenge, because an environment artist will always add as many details as possible. While there is plenty to be seen, performance optimization always plays a big role in her work too. Both Biting Cold's performance and snow are as smooth as possible. The frozen lakes with all its cracked details and glows from underneath were carefully handled by Richard Sööt.

_Concept Art for the Reghed Edge's Instance quest, created by Artem Plotnikov. _

Through creating the Slaughterhouse Arena, we gained inspiration to have our Heroic Encounters shared over three arenas for the first time, meaning that one spot could feature a variety of encounters. There are six new Heroic Encounters for you to conquer!

Freeze and unfreeze the guardian spirits, try to stay warm while fighting the Stormcaller in the blizzard, channel arcane energies on the frozen lake, shatter the frozen armor of the yeti, face the forest's primal animals, and help miners to survive against goblin raiders.

In the frozen expanse of Icewind Dale, where the wind howls like a living thing and the cold bites to the bone, lies Jotunskar, a place of brutal purpose and ancient power. Carved from stone and scarred by fire, this forsaken stronghold is no mere ruin. A crucible where strength is demanded and weakness is consumed.

Slide down the icy descent through the slippery Jotunskar, where Frost Giants have succumbed to whispers, mobilizing under a mysterious new authority. Avoid the Death Pit at all costs while you delve your way through the darkness, on your way to defeat three mighty bosses while looking for answers.

With three difficulty levels, every adventurer can test their strength:

  • Normal Mode – Accessible to all.
  • Advanced Mode – A steppingstone for mid-level players looking to push their limits. For now, Advanced Mode won’t be available in Random Queues.
  • Master Mode – A relentless challenge for the most skilled adventurers, emphasizing strategy and teamwork over raw stats.

Behind the scenes: Inspired by his work on M32’s Soul Harvest Trial, where he was responsible for the ice boss, Victor Romero took the lead in designing even more literally cool content, designing all of Jotunskar's bosses and their powers. For the third boss, he got help from Charles de Mello, who earlier took the lead in designing both of Thay's Trials. Together, Charles and Victor formed a great team to helm this new Dungeon, and in our opinion, it also looks great visually. Environmental artist Natalia Wylezińska did a great job bringing Jotunskar to life, with a beautiful frozen ceiling, gorgeous rooms, loads of details and more.

The dungeon features a new unique way to access the sublevel of the dungeon, a frozen slide created by the natural flow of time. The later encountered Death Pit initially was crafted as this very narrow path where you had to gather several buffs to destroy the ice wall that now prevents you from getting to the next campfire at first. While not all initial ideas always make the final version of a dungeon, there is always room for creative ideas next time.

The first few testing sessions came with plenty surprises for the team, like the Death Pit that suddenly got changed into a big, slippery circle! Multiple team members straightaway slid into the void and kept on slipping later while fighting the vast number of critters placed.

A lot of adjustments have been made after testing, and we truly hope you have a great time exploring the frozen halls of Jotunskar!

Not only does the Ten-Towns region experience bizarre visions, but there are also plenty of bizarre creatures to find. Our Battle Pass shows you just what we mean, with Wormungandr as its chase reward!

Read more about the Ice Breaker Battle Pass.

The weather watchers warned us of the blizzards getting worse, which coincides with the rising temperatures. They're periodical, but you'd have to be mad to willingly venture into one without sufficient protection. We're calling it the Encroaching Frost... Even the most seasoned explorers struggle to get through it. Normally, we'd advise waiting it out, as great evil hides within the winds, and visibility is drastically reduced, but entering the storm and withstanding its debilitating effects is often the wiser choice to eventually reap great rewards!

Slay Ice Mephits and Air Archons, locate and open Storm Treasure Chests or Storm Skill Nodes, and participate in the Stormbound Reaver Summoning Ritual to bring him down when he finally emerges from the blizzard! Defeating the Stormbound Reaver will bring greater rewards, including Reghed Shards.

The storm lasts for a limited time, after which you must refill the Storm Meter to trigger the next one. Whispers claim that the more Heroic Encounters adventurers tackle, the faster a new Encroaching Frost begins to brew. Standing close to campfires or braziers will help mitigate the damage and get rid of the side-effects from the deadly Freezing Cold.

Brave the cold and face all that hides in the winds, but take time to prepare before you do. Even Giants can struggle in the Blizzards...

**Behind the scenes: ** Designer Samuil (Spami) is combining most of his experience into one big zone mechanic with the Encroaching Frost. Before Biting Cold, he created Tenebraloth, the Necrotitan, the Slaughterhouse Arena, and quite the variety of other Heroic Encounters and zone mechanics.

Mike Lopez has been responsible for Neverwinter's music and sound effects for a while now, from making the heavy metal piece for Red Harvest's Shackles of Divinity Trial to Biting Cold's music, filled with traditional ‘joiks’ of the Sámi people of Northern Europe.

Check out Lakeblurgaming's recent interview with him below!

Encroaching Frost has crept down from the Reghed Glacier's dangerous mountains, bringing with it treasures born of biting winds and endless snowdrifts. Within this chilling Lockbox, you may ride the Snowtusk, or feel honored to be accompanied by the ever-dapper Sir Waddlelot!

Read more about the Lockbox.

Linck's Siqueira created a lot of visual effects for Snowtusk, other Mounts and Companions, and the Jotunskar Dungeon.

What goes into a penguin? A lot of fish, you might say… but in truth, it takes a surprising amount of effort, craft, and love. From stumbling flippers to fearless defender, Sir Waddlelot’s journey proves that even the smallest heroes can leave the biggest footprint in the snow.

Art lead Anto Covi created this cool article about Neverwinter's general art process, using Sir Waddlelot as a muse.

Check out the art process for Sir Waddlelot.

  • Celestial Rings can be acquired by upgrading Mythic Rings. This can be done with the new Cosmic Dust. Both Mythic Rings and Cosmic Dust can be acquired from Master Jotunskar.
  • Both Legendary Rings and Mythic Rings are bound to your character upon pickup.
  • Weapons, gear pieces, shirts, pants and Mythic Companion Gear are bound to your account on pickup; you can swap them between your own characters.
  • Mythic Armor can drop from Master Jotunskar in two bind states: Account (Pickup) or Bind on Equip. Happy trading!
  • Legendary Companion Gear is also Bind on Equip.
  • Jotunskar's Dungeon Key is available through the Encroaching Frost. An alternative, ‘stabilized’ version of the key can be obtained through the Campaign. You can trade this one.

_Please note that any date stated could change at any moment. _

We hope you have a good time with our new Module, and we hope you liked this article! Our Community Manager spent a lot of effort presenting it to you, and he feels like he wrote a full digital magazine with this one while introducing a lot more team members than before, making the team behind Neverwinter a bit more personal! Enjoy the new content, more to come soon!

Tempus Arena - The Slaughterhouse

The contents in this article are taken from a test version and could be subject to change for the final version. When this happens, we will inform you.

It’s time for Module 32.5, Tempus Arena – The Slaughterhouse, with a lot of new features! Check out everything in this article to learn more about reclaimable Celestial Insignias, Celestial Mounts, the renewed Slaughterhouse, our smarter Queue Window, and Cleric changes!

You now have the opportunity to upgrade your Insignias to our Celestial quality, providing you with additional refinement options and chances to increase your power!

The Celestial Insignias come up with a few changes to the Insignia system altogether, based on your recent feedback, so let's have a look!

**Insignia Powder upgrade costs **

The amount of Insignia Powder needed has been lowered for each quality. Upgrading from Mythic to Celestial requires 2500 Insignia Powder, the same costs as it was to upgrade to Mythic.

Converting Insignias to dust hasn't changed across the lower quality. Dusting a Celestial Insignia grants you 1500 Insignia Powder.

**Reclaimable through Rewards Claim Agent **

The Rewards Claim Agent got your back! No need to upgrade tons of Insignias if you play more than one character. Once an Insignia reaches Celestial quality, you can **convert **the Insignia into a reclaimable version, reclaimable for all characters.

Reclaimed Insignias can't be used indefinitely; if an account has reclaimed, for example, 3 Celestial quality Insignias of Brutality, each character on the account can have at most 3 of that specific Insignia. Up to 20 of the same Insignia can be converted.

To allow this conversion, you will need 3 Celestial Essences.

Please note that only Celestial Insignias can be converted into a reclaimable Insignia, and that reclaimed Insignias cannot be traded in the Auction House.

Celestial Essence

You will need 3 Celestial Essence to get the conversion process going. Celestial Essence can be obtained through Trials, Dungeons, the Appointment Store, and the Zen Store. Please note that we are investigating more sources for future content.

Celestial Essence obtained through Dungeons and Trials is tradeable in the Auction House.

For now, Celestial Essence can be obtained from the following Trials:

  • Shackles of Divinity
  • Soul Harvest For Shackles of Divinity, we aim to look into reroll opportunities for the chests soon, similar to Soul Harvest.

Upgrade your Mythic Mounts to a new, stronger tier, as Celestial Mounts are here to accompany the Celestial Insignia update!

Celestial Mounts will allow you to boost their item level and the effects of Mount Powers associated with the Mount. While you can't upgrade Mount Collars to Celestial yet, it's definitely something we have in store for you later.

On lower quality, upgrade costs have been reduced.

On our Discord, we recently started feedback threads for Barbarians, Rangers, Clerics, and Warlocks. Thank you for all the feedback you provided! Our next Module marks the kick-off of our class changes, and the Cleric is the first one we’ve worked on.

This should come with a sidenote: due to balancing difficulties for Arbiter Cleric, our main efforts this time around have gone to Devout Cleric; while Arbiter only went through a few changes, Devout has been changed accordingly. This doesn't mean that the Arbiter Cleric's abilities are set in stone forever.

Some highlights of the changes:

  • Anointed Army absorbed the powers from Anointed Arms.
  • Give your allies extra damage, healing and recharge reduction with Divine Glow and extra damage with Exaltation.
  • Equip the new Sanctified Ground Feat to boost Hallowed Ground, adding Recharge Reduction.
  • Guardian of Life adds a new high-risk-high-reward functionality besides the regular healing where you’re able to resurrect up to four players from death!

Besides rewards like Insignias and both Mount- and Companion Upgrade Tokens, this Lockbox includes Cactus the Hedgehog to really spike things up. Although Cactus isn't as fast as other hedgehogs featured in games, it's definitely fast enough to stroll through the many zones Neverwinter has to offer! Is it a bird... is it a plane... is it... a cat? Sardina the Tressym would love to be your sidekick from now on. D’awws aren't mandatory but recommended!

Check out our Pet Pals Lockbox!

Perhaps an Interlude Module doesn't scream Art Team at first sight, because most players usually recognize the Art Team's efforts whenever there's a full new Adventure Zone to explore. Fair enough, and we hope that you’re as excited about the work our Environment Artists put in as that we are proud of them and the rest of the team, but our Art Team as a whole does a lot more.

At the start we have our Concept Artists, creating the initial sketches for our upcoming content. From there, several artists like Character Artists and Environment Artists get to work to shape everything in-game, so that our 3D Animators, VFX Artists and Tech Artists can bring it to life. Meanwhile, UI/UX Artists create the interface and icons around it, and finally the Marketing Artist makes the assets you so often see featured on our launcher, social media, and our website's news section.

With the release of this Module, we found time to mark the start to let some of our pets be our muses. Sardina kicks off, available to be as much of a companion to you as she is to our Art Team's lead. With a small extra, of course, as real-life Sardina's wings have yet to spawn.

Sardina's real-life counterpart is a marbled Bengal whose life motto revolves around three big C’s: chin scritches, coziness, and chicken strips. Plenty of all that goes around, as her cat parents or one of the three siblings are always there. Being the most patient of the family, sweetness radiates around her. Don't piss her off though – you might need wings yourself when Sardina eventually gets zooming!

Our whole art team had a great time bringing Sardina to life in the game, and our internal threads about cats are still very much alive. We sincerely hope that you enjoy her company as much as we do. Sardina's entrance surely won't be the last time we’ll draw inspiration from our team's pets. The cat is out of the bag, sort of. Let it also be noted that the title banners in this article are created by our Community Manager; the Art Team is way more capable.

A longer Battle Pass consisting of 1 phase (For Gods and Glory: Deathmatch) with 16 milestones. You can collect 6,000 Battle Pass XP by doing Arena Activities, Random Dungeons, Trials, and Skirmishes.

Some highlights:

  • Pocket Sardina (Vanity Pet)
  • Illusion Choice Pack
  • Mythic Insignia Choice Pack
  • Mythic Mount Choice Pack
  • Twitchspine the Clinging (Companion)

Check out the For Gods and Glory Battlepass!

Neverwinter has a huge variety of Dungeons and Trials, and we often hear you mention that setting everything up to be your most efficient self takes time. Some people within our community already created their own system to speed things up, and we’ve checked them out in awe and realized we should include something like these systems ourselves.

Enter our Dungeons/Trials Queue improvement, available for Public and Private PVE queues, where we aim to improve the preparations for a Dungeon and Trial in an easy-to-understand format.

When you queue up and don't want any extra information, you can just start playing. The new menu we added can be found by clicking Inspect (1), giving you a popup window. From there you see the following information:

  • Class – The same way it's visible in the standard Queue window

  • Mount Powers – Both Active and Passive

  • Primary Artifact

  • Summoned Companion By clicking the dropdown menu (2), you can get even more information per queue group member:

  • Mount Insignia Bonuses

  • Guild and Alliance

  • The two Overloads

  • All six Companion Powers By hovering over (3) various aspects, tooltips will appear with more information. Aside from the Artifact, values and rarities are hidden to streamline the display and to make it easier to focus on what matters most when comparing equipment.

When someone updates their loadout, for example when Player 5 doesn't have Overloads equipped, it should be visible to everyone within a few seconds.

The Armor illusions, Footprint illusions, and Weapon illusions for Cosmos and Gravity have been updated, marking the first time that illusions include sound effects! Sound effects on newly released illusions will be available starting in its original state, with a small sound upgrade when the illusion is upgraded to its final form.

We have tried our absolute best to make sure that whenever you combine illusions, the sound effects vibe with each other. However, we’re aware that not everyone can be a fan of these new sound effects. Therefore, we’ve updated our Audio Settings.

Check out the screenshot and video below!

Even more tears for the tear jar, as the Slaughterhouse is ready to open its doors again! However, this time, the Slaughterhouse is under new management, including some changes. The new management noticed that you should feel more powerful while in the Arena. Therefore, expect rebalanced enemies, player powers and more! You can access Tempus Arena – The Slaughterhouse from Protector's Enclave. Enjoy the Slaughterhouse and its improvements to the PVE mode!

  • 10 new Bosses and 10 new Critter Waves are ready to make your life more difficult than before. Rumors have it that there's even an additional extra boss...
  • Previous passive buff values have been upgraded by 5 percent.
  • Time to add** active buffs** too! Get them every 5 rounds starting at round 10 to greatly increase movement, rapidly regenerate AP, doubling damage, obtain damage immunity and shields, heal a targeted area, revive dead allies, remove revive sickness and more!
  • Newly added Challenge Rounds, where you're prompted to challenge three bosses simultaneously to obtain one of the Ultimate Passive Power Ups for the rest of the run: massively increase Recharge Speed, AP Gain, Max Health, or your Base Damage Bonus.
  • Complete the new 'Survive a Challenge Round' and 'Reach Round 25' quests and obtain a new Title, the Bloody Footprints (Random Pack at Round 20, Choice Pack at Round 35), new gear, the Bloodthirst Chalice Artifact, or any of our previous rewards! Upon the release of Module 32.5, Tempus Arena - The Slaughterhouse will be included as a new timed recurring event. This means that we will let you know when it occurs at a later time.

Check out some of the rewards below.

Get a new Mount, a new Artifact, new gear, new Footprints and more by entering the Slaughterhouse!

Our Module even comes with a temporary Campaign! The Tempus’ Blood Track allows you to collect Blood Shards for your efforts, with a Weekly Haul of 50 Blood Shards. You will obtain Blood Shards every 5 rounds up to Round 50, starting at 1 Blood Shard for beating Round 5 and ending at 5 Blood Shards for beating Round 50.

There are plenty of rewards to gain from this Campaign Track, with highlights such as the **Hemovore Gelatinous Cube **and two Illusion Choice Packs containing Cosmos (with sound effects!) and Snakeskin illusions.

We hope you have a good time with our new Module. More to come soon!

Mountain of Flame is LIVE

We are excited to announce that Neverwinter’s new module, Mountain of Flame is available now on PC, PlayStation and Xbox consoles. This major update for the free-to-play Dungeons & Dragons MMORPG brings back the Mount Hotenow Adventure Zone – originally introduced when Neverwinter launched in 2013. With the return of this adventure zone, adventurers will discover the zone has been completely revamped and re-populated, making Mount Hotenow bigger and better than ever before. This re-imagined zone brings back a classic dungeon, the “Lair of the Mad Dragon”, in a whole new way as all the monsters and bosses within the dungeon have been reworked. Additionally, the module brings quality of life improvements, most notably, a new battle pass that lets players earn rewards, such as a new companion, “Eric the Cavalier”, based on the character from the 1983 Dungeons & Dragons cartoon TV series, Dungeons & Dragons.

In the Mountain of Flame module, the smoking volcano, Mount Hotenow, is rumbling once again and threatening to erupt. The mighty fire giant Gommoth, who lives deep within the mountain, plans to use the growing magma to free the sleeping Primordial within the volcano. Neverwinter: Jewel of the North Now Live!

Neverwinter: Jewel of the North introduces an all-new class, the Bard, inspired by the popular Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition class archetype. Neverwinter adventurers who choose the Bard become daring heroes who possess the ability to weave magic into their swords, inspire allies with music, manipulate minds, and heal wounds. Adventurers will find that the Bard stands out due to its Perform Mode that lets them play a variety of songs that can enhance, heal, or hurt their targets, and its Free Perform Mode in which Bards can use their equipped instrument to freely create and play their own songs for other adventurers to enjoy.

Along with the new class, Neverwinter: Jewel of the North brings major game-changing improvements that make it easier for all adventurers to access and enjoy all of the content available in Neverwinter. With the new streamlined leveling system which follows the beloved system found in Dungeons & Dragons, the max level cap in Neverwinter has transitioned from level 80 to level 20. This allows new and returning adventurers to reach epic-level content much faster (in approximately 10-12 hours) and gives veteran adventurers the option to quickly level up their alternate characters. Additional notable improvements geared towards providing a greater experience for all adventurers include the new Adventures feature, two new locations (the Adventurer’s Guild and Training Room) and revamped tutorials and early game performance improvements.

Below is a detailed list of key features:

New Bard Class – Inspired by the iconic and multi-skilled Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition class, the new class for Neverwinter weaves together quick, deadly swordplay and powerful magical ballads into an orchestra of destruction for enemies and boons for themselves and allies. The class offers two unique Paragon Paths for players to choose from:

  • Minstrel - Master musicians who support allies from afar with songs of bardic inspiration. These healers can also use music to create psychic attacks and illusions.

  • Songblade - Charming swashbucklers who dispatch their foes in style with swordplay, magic, and music. This path is for those who want to be close and mid-range damage dealers, and who want to make use of dramatic spells and supporting songs to enhance their natural combat ability.

New Streamlined Leveling System - Following the beloved system found in Dungeons & Dragons, the max level cap has transitioned from level 80 to level 20, making it easier for all adventurers to experience the many adventures available within the Forgotten Realms in Neverwinter.

New Adventures Feature - A new and intuitive way to play through content, track progress, and get some great rewards. The Adventures feature allows adventurers to know what to explore and experience next as they continue their epic journey.

Major Quality of Life Improvements - All adventurers can prepare and be ready for their many adventures thanks to the following new improvements:

Two New Locations:

  • The Adventurer’s Guild - Located in Protector’s Enclave, the guild serves as place for all the greatest adventurers to meet, train, and claim their hard-earned rewards.

  • The Training Room - A special demiplane created by the wizards of the Adventurer’s Guild where adventurers can hone their skills and explore combat systems using a variety of modifiers.

Revamped Tutorialization - New tutorials, messaging and visuals have been added for new and returning adventurers to better understand what it takes to be a true adventurer in Neverwinter.

Neverember Recruitment Event - During Neverember’s Recruitment event, any new characters who log in during this event will earn extra rewards, such as rare mounts and companions, while leveling as well as Neverember Incentives, which can be exchanged for account-wide rewards.

Neverwinter: Sharandar Now Live!

Neverwinter: Sharandar is now live with its first episode: The Iron Tooth! Experience the exciting storyline starting today on PC and March 16 on Console!

Feature Highlights

New Zone: Sharandar

It’s been several years since the adventurers of Neverwinter clashed against the forces of Malabog, and during the relative stability, the landscape and architecture of the Feywild has changed. However, not all is peaceful. There are new enemies and challenges to face.

Sharandar requires a level of 80 and an item level of 40,000 to enter. However, during the first two weeks, players with any item level can play, and they’ll be scaled up to 40,000. As long as you complete the intro quest within the first two weeks, you’ll have access regardless of item level!

New Storyline: The Iron Tooth

The fey crossing—a bridge of sorts, that connected Faerûn to the Feywild—has recently been severed, preventing passage. Travelers who had returned from Sharandar speak of a feeling of unease. Though the defeat of Malabog brought peace for a time, a new evil stirs.

Reconnect with the Iliyanbruen envoys in Protector’s Enclave to find out how to restore the fey crossing, and assist in the adventures beyond.

This is the first episode of the new Sharandar campaign; more episodes will be released in the future.

New Campaign: Sharandar

With the new zone and new storyline comes a new campaign! This campaign will use a flow similar to the Redeemed Citadel, involving a weekly haul and a single progression path. More campaigns and more zones will unlock with the release of future episodes of the Sharandar storyline.

New Dungeon: The Vault of Stars

Clash against the members of the Gloaming Court as you uncover ancient secrets of the unseelie fey. Three new bosses await, with a new array of powerful rewards!

The Vault of Stars unlocks two weeks after the release of Sharandar.
