Hello,

No Man’s Sky turns 10 in August and we feel very lucky that we still get the chance to work on it every day. What we love about sci-fi, and about No Man’s Sky, is that it can be a canvas for so many ideas. Our last update, Xeno Arena, introduced Pokemon-style pet battling, which players have put a ton of hours into, but takes place on just a small table… our next update is something much larger. Full patch notes can be found (https://www.nomanssky.com/swarm-update).

Something new, huge and foreboding is hanging in the sky above planets. Unlike anything we've seen before.

Players are going to need a combined community effort to figure out what is going on. Travellers will boot up to be greeted with a personality test, dividing players into three factions, each will need to co-operate, strategise and compete to counter the Hive of Glass, an existential threat to the universe.

A war effort is being launched from the Nexus, with defenses rapidly being constructed, and a new bulletin page tracking progress. Your contribution to the face-off with the Hive is being logged for all to see in both the Anomaly and the Galactic Atlas (https://galacticatlas.nomanssky.com/). Travellers will want to keep a constant eye on which squad is contributing the most to the war effort. The most effective faction will be memorialised in the Space Anomaly for all time!

Epic space battles are at the core of science fiction, and THE SWARM update brings our biggest and most epic space battles to date. The Hive of Glass protects itself by releasing swarms of robotic drones, creating an awesome spectacle of battles with hundreds of ships. The Hive itself is a weapon too, with the iris opening to release the largest weapon we’ve ever seen in No Man’s Sky. A laser capable of destroying freighter fleets and perhaps even something as large as a space station…

While in space there are huge battles, on planet there is investigating and pillaging the remains of crashed drones (using the newly-acquired Gravity Gun we introduced earlier this year). Shot down drones need to be salvaged and researched. There are miniature planetary swarms to defeat, and research efforts to sabotage the swarm’s network. The secrets of the Hive’s origins and weaknesses can be uncovered and shared with your fellow rebels.

As well as saving the universe, there are a host of rewards, including a full suit of armour that has a retro sci-fi feel, a new rifle, huge new jetpack and much more.

I love that this year we’ve had players collecting trash with a new gravity gun in (https://www.nomanssky.com/remnant-update), battling pets in the Xeno Arena, and now fighting off a high action threat to the universe in THE SWARM.

The prospect of all existing Travellers converging on a single area of the universe to take the largest space battles to date, against the back-drop of an ominous, mysterious Death Star like construct, with the ability to destroy space station sized objects… is going to make for some exciting weeks ahead for us and for players. We can’t wait to see how this plays out.

Full patch notes for The Swarm update can be found (https://www.nomanssky.com/swarm-update).

Introducing No Man's Sky Xeno Arena

Hello everyone,

This is already shaping up to a big year for No Man’s Sky, as we celebrate our tenth anniversary year!

Even we struggle to know how we pulled off so many large updates in 2025. 2026 is building steadily on that momentum. Our small team is excited to share our latest update. Full patch notes (https://www.nomanssky.com/xeno-arena-update).

Our new update is called XENO ARENA and it's pretty wild! Xeno Arena lets you raise, train and battle the alien creatures found across the universe. Most of the planets you’ve visited in your travels have always been teeming with wildlife - and now, for the first time, those creatures are not just your companions, but your squad and maybe your champions!

We have this whole universe filled with an infinite variety of creatures, and we've added to that for ten years now. You have everything from dinosaurs to flying cows to robots to gaseous blobs. We started with this thought that you can discover them and name them... but what if all that variety had a gameplay purpose? What if you could collect them, breed them, have them as pets... but also battle them?

We are huge fans of Pokémon, Palworld and pet battling in World of Warcraft. Now when discovering a rare robotic creature in a far flung purple system planet, you can check their abilities, and for instance discover a powerful neutron blast attack. Suddenly it brings a new dimension to exploration. Rare creatures and beautiful pets become something exciting to show off in the Arena.

These holo-arenas can be found in Space Stations and in the Nexus. Players can battle their pets against friends, strangers and NPCs for huge rewards. It's a genuine path for players to progress in the game, with daily challenges to compete in for ultimate rewards. This is an entire multiplayer game all of its own, with absolutely tons of depth, now existing within No Man's Sky.

Each species has unique elemental affinities tied to their xeno species and linked to their home world. A blob creature evolved on a toxic planet has different abilities to a flying dino born on a frozen moon. Rarer biomes can be harder to find but yield rarer creatures, which are much harder to prepare a team to battle against.

Some creatures are extraordinarily rare - legendary variants with unusual and exceptional stats that can be incredibly valuable. Sharing knowledge and creature locations with other players opens up its own fascinating economy.

Once found, creatures can be trained, or can be bred and even genetically modified to create new variants and unique colours. Feeding, bonding and sparring raises their abilities over time. The satisfaction of watching a scrappy little creature you found on a desolate moon grow into a fearsome arena champion is something we’re really proud of.

The Xeno Arena itself is a new multiplayer-enabled structure you can construct and open to other travellers. Challenge friends to creature battles, host tournaments, or travel the galaxy taking on other players’ arena champions. Ranks, leagues and future seasonal rewards promise to keep that competition alive.

2026 represents 10 years since we launched and I couldn’t be prouder. For any game to reach such a milestone is a privilege. It wouldn’t be possible without your continued support and we genuinely appreciate it.

Full patch notes for Xeno Arena can be found (https://www.nomanssky.com/xeno-arena-update).

Introducing...No Man's Sky Remnant!

Hello,

In 2025, No Man’s Sky Travellers were treated to one of our biggest years yet. Even we struggle to know how we pulled off so many large updates last year - Worlds Part II and (https://www.nomanssky.com/voyagers-update) were both transformational and released in the same year, interspersed with smaller but significant updates in (https://www.nomanssky.com/relics-update), (https://www.nomanssky.com/beacon-update) and (https://www.nomanssky.com/2025/10/expedition-twenty-breach/).

Today we’re pleased to announce that our first update of 2026, our 10th anniversary year, is already rolling out. It’s called Remnant and it introduces something that we and the community have been aching to introduce to No Man’s Sky since the beginning…a fully operational gravity gun! Full patch notes are available (https://www.nomanssky.com/remnant-update).

Our new update is called (https://www.nomanssky.com/remnant-update) and it introduces something that we’ve been wanting to give players since the very beginning - a gravity gun!

The Gravitino Coil is a powerful new anti-gravity module for your multi-tool. It turns No Man’s Sky into a physics playground. Allowing you to grab large objects and fling, toss or carefully carry them around the world.

Salvage and debris that could always be found on planets can now be collected and recycled for rare and highly prized resources. New trucks, tipping flatbeds and haulers can be constructed, to transport resources back to industrial yards for reclamation. You can work alone or join a salvage crew with friends. It creates this really fun and tactile new loop of searching for wrecks, loading trucks full of cargo and hauling across the alien landscape to industrial yards to gain new loot and rewards.

Sorting and depositing materials in these all-new Waste Processing Plants will reap great rewards. Some of the scrap is highly volatile though and must be transported extremely carefully. It’s hard to resist over-stacking your truck, finding one more piece you think you can cram in, and then trying desperately to transport this house of cards on the back of your flatbed!

Our gravity gun is an industrial tool, but it can also be used as a ballistic weapon, grabbing sentinels or fling heavy objects, turning them into projectiles.

Vehicles can be hugely customised, to create bespoke trucks and haulers for your needs. Build your own brightly coloured incinerators, spider legged sci-fi explorer or heavily armed military vehicles with tank tracks.

The Remnant Update comes with a limited-time community expedition. It brings Travellers together in convoys to clean up and reclaim a planet covered in wrecks and salvage. Perhaps you’ll be a hauler, or the gravity gun wielding ground crew or maybe a scrap yard operator.

There are beautiful rewards, including dozens of new vehicle parts, and an all-new beautifully crafted armour set, with plush, padded fabrics and ornate steam punk detailing.

2026 represents 10 years since we launched and I couldn’t be prouder. For any game to reach such a milestone is a privilege. It wouldn’t be possible without your continued support and we genuinely appreciate it.

Full patch notes for (https://www.nomanssky.com/remnant-update) can be found (https://www.nomanssky.com/remnant-update).

Announcing..the 2025 Expedition Reduxes

Hello Everyone!

It's been another incredibly busy year for No Man's Sky. We're honestly amazed by how quickly 2025 has flown past, and so happy and humbled to be back here wrapping up the year with the return of our now-traditional expedition reduxes.

We hit the ground running in January this year, with the release of the huge WORLDS PART II, which furthered the transformation of the universe with new stars, planets, mountains and oceans, creatures and biomes, and lore. The team felt very passionate about this return to some of the fundamentals of No Man's Sky, and we could feel the anticipation building for this follow-up to WORLDS PART I, so the positive reception felt incredible.

In the months that followed, we've introduced bone-hunting and fossil design in (https://www.nomanssky.com/relics-update/), deepened planetary settlements in BEACON, and brought multi-crew, self-assembled starships in VOYAGERS - a feature that we hoped players would like, but we couldn't possibly have anticipated the response.

We saw the highest number of simultaneous players in game since we launched nine years ago - and so many astonishingly creative ship builds! Some of the team like to sit docked in the Space Anomaly just to watch your extraordinary creations fly in and out.

Among the updates this year, we've also run four new community expeditions. Each of these themed mission chains unites the whole community for several weeks, gathering everyone together in this sprawling universe that can often be quite a solitary experience - and offers the opportunity to earn special limited-edition rewards. However, we know that life is busy, so we are delighted to be able to offer players another opportunity to participate in some of our previous expeditions.

It's almost November 7th - a significant date to fans of the fantastic Mass Effect series - and to celebrate N7 Day, we are again collaborating with our friends at BioWare and EA to run the Beachhead expedition, and offer the No Man's Sky community another opportunity to claim the legendary SSV Normandy SR1. We've welcomed many new Travellers to No Man's Sky since the Normandy's last appearance in the Euclid galaxy, so we hope this news comes as a welcome surprise to our fellow Mass Effect fans!

Following Beachhead, as has become customary, we will be re-running this year's expeditions over two-week intervals over the holiday season - over Thanksgiving, Christmas, and through to the middle of January.

  • Beachhead: 7th Nov - 18th Nov The inhabitants of the Space Anomaly have detected something impossible: a fluctuation in history already written. A new pattern is emerging in the stories of the ancient Gek, Korvax, and Vy’keen. Something is coming: a legendary weapon that always appears whenever it is needed...

  • Titan: 19th Nov - 2nd Dec Chart a dazzling array of new stars and new worlds formed in Worlds Part II: gas giants, endless oceans and cloud-skimming mountains. Earn exclusive rewards, including a unique living ship dredged from the inky depths of a water world.

  • Relics: 3rd Dec - 16th Dec Sign up with the Galactic Palaeology Society and join the community on a journey to recreate ancient lifeforms, uncover secrets left undisturbed for millennia, and earn a complete living stone appearance override.

  • Corvette: 17th Dec - 30th Dec Your former starship has been damaged beyond repair, and the Sentinel horde is closing in. Assemble your own corvette-class starship, maximise its stats and potential, and take refuge amongst the stars! Earn an array of exclusive rewards, including the one-of-a-kind Mecha Mouse robotic companion.

  • Breach: 31st Dec - 13th Jan Traverse a desolate and abandoned universe, confronting both the awe and the horror that lurks in deep space. Follow the tale of the ill-faded Fireship Arcadia, step into zero-gravity, and scavenge modules from its wreckage to enhance your own corvette builds. Complete milestones to earn a set of ancient, powerful Atlas-themed corvette modules.

Development Update

Our Halloween expedition, Breach, wraps up later today - and the first of our expedition "remixes", Beachhead, will begin tomorrow on November 7th!

This has been an inspiring, exciting year for No Man's Sky, and we already have so much more content planned and in active development. We can't wait to share it with you.

You might already know that we also have another project in the works - a fantasy game about adventure and exploration with friends. It's called Light No Fire, and we're pretty excited about it. If you'd like to stay updated with news about Light No Fire, you can wishlist it on Steam here.

Our journey continues.

Introducing...No Man's Sky Breach

Hello,

Well, we suspected that the No Man’s Sky (https://www.nomanssky.com/voyagers-update) update was going to cause some excitement in the universe, but never did we expect such a huge influx- seeing player numbers we’ve not seen since launch… nine years ago!

Our update for Halloween is called (https://www.nomanssky.com/2025/10/expedition-twenty-breach/), and it leans into the thrill of custom ship assembly, space-walking, skydiving, and** community spirit **introduced in Voyagers. It is free to download today for existing players. Full patch notes are available (https://www.nomanssky.com/2025/10/expedition-twenty-breach/).

In Breach, players will traverse a desolate and abandoned universe and on their travels encounter the abandoned remains of ill-fated corvette ships, all ripe for scavenging ship modules to add to your corvette-building arsenal.

Excavating these wrecks will yield an array of corvette pieces including rare vertical parts which unlock a whole new range of build configurations for the more creative designers.

Among the exclusive expedition rewards, there is also a set of **Atlas-themed modules **for those wanting to demonstrate their allegiance to the all-seeing entity.

The jewel in the crown of these wreckages is the Fireship Arcadia, the fate of which you will learn as you venture through Breach. But you will have to face your fears and make a leap of faith into the black as you space-walk through these eerie systems to glean its unique remnants.

Breach Expedition

The spooky Breach Expedition embraces the darker side of the universe and will also lure the bravest Travellers towards the ominous and exotic purple-star solar systems which players first glimpsed in Worlds Part II back in January. The planets in these systems are particularly foreboding with their deep, abyssal oceans, unearthly entities and the notoriously imposing and volatile gas giants.

The Breach Expedition begins today, and will run for approximately three weeks.

Space Wreckage

In the far reaches of deep space, wrecked corvettes can now be encountered and salvaged. Step out into zero-gravity to explore these hollow hulks, and equip your Multi-Tool laser to dismantle their valuable modules - then repurpose this scrap to build your dream ship at a Corvette Workshop.

New Corvette Modules

A significant number of new corvette modules are now salvageable from deep-space corvette wrecks and planetary scrapheaps. These include new landing gear, shields, weapons, connectors, and a number of highly-requested wedge-shaped modules that enable a huge variety of creative and complicated corvette builds.

Quality of Life

In addition to the bundle of fixes, improvements, and new features in today’s update, the No Man’s Sky team have been hard at work on improving Voyagers since its launch in August. Notably, snapping is greatly improved, collision is more robust, and the Corvette Workshop now offers the option to apply a colour palette to an entire corvette. There has never been a better time to build a corvette!

Breach Expedition Rewards

Event Horizon, Eternal Serpents, and Siren of the Stars Posters

These decorative posters commemorating the Breach expedition depict a deep-space gravitational anomaly, the tileable eternal serpent of time, and a betentacled siren, poised to begin its mucal embrace…

Aeron Cowling & Diffuser

The geometry of these corvette modules is ancient and unmistakable, shaped by the crimson heartbeat of the universe itself.

The extruded Aeron Cowling and Aeron Diffuser hull plates add a bold, angular appearance to your corvette’s silhouette.

Wings of Aeron

This Atlas-themed wing module stabilises the corvette during atmospheric flight.

Aeron Pyramid, Aeron Pillar & Aeron Winglet

These decorative Atlas-themed modules can be affixed to the corvette exterior, furthering the ship’s devotion to the crimson entity.

Aeron Powershield

The Aeron Powershield is linked to the corvette’s shielding system, providing a significant performance boost to the ship’s defence array.

Aeron Starship Trail

This engine modification injects the Starship exhaust trail with an arterial streak of crimson.

Aeron Drive & Aeron Blade

Design a hefty, heavyweight Atlas corvette with the bulky Aeron Drive, or favour a more lightweight, sleek aesthetic with the streamlined Aeron Blade wing.

No Man’s Sky Plushies

There are just** two weeks** left to order our limited-edition Traveller and Gek plushies before they warp away!

Available to order (https://youtooz.com/collections/no-mans-sky?srsltid=AfmBOooM66pc1Zyi-Lo5JOOEJEWvMeaLFor8thU3JdYqKZ1Hs1kV7wMY)** **until November 5th.

The tiny No Man’s Sky team have been running on more cylinders than even I thought they had this year with barely a breath taken between Worlds Part II, (https://www.nomanssky.com/relics-update), (https://www.nomanssky.com/beacon-update) and the epic (https://www.nomanssky.com/voyagers-update). We’re still having a lot of fun, and, from the looks of our player numbers, so are many of the community.

Full patch notes for the (https://www.nomanssky.com/2025/10/expedition-twenty-breach/) update are available (https://www.nomanssky.com/2025/10/expedition-twenty-breach/).

Introducing...No Man's Sky: Voyagers

Hello!

I can’t believe it’s been just over nine years since No Man’s Sky first launched. No Man’s Sky (https://www.nomanssky.com/voyagers-update) is what we’re super busy with right now and is one of our most ambitious updates. It launches today. Full patch notes are available (https://www.nomanssky.com/voyagers-update).

I’ve always loved Spaceships! Name a sci-fi film, book or game, and I want to talk to you about the spaceships in it! We know No Man’s Sky players feel the same - they spend countless hours searching the universe for their perfect ship. But what if you could design your own ship? If you could get out of your pilot's seat mid-flight and walk around? If you could invite your friends on board as crew?

I guess that’s always been the ultimate fantasy for us. An infinite universe to explore with your ship and crew. Something we’ve always wanted to see brought together in one game.

Afterall perhaps the most important character in No Man’s Sky is your space ship. It’s your safe haven on hazardous planets, your companion exploring the stars. Your ship is your way of experiencing the universe, and when we change that, it really changes how the game feels.

We call them Corvettes, huge ships with hulls, wings, landing gear, cockpits, engine parts, thrusters and more - arranged to your own unique sci-fi design.

These ships have real interiors, med-bays, sleeping quarters, war rooms, radars, teleporters. It comes with you everywhere, which totally changes how you play. Decorating it with your friends gives you a space that you share together. Whether it's a brightly coloured tiny explorer, or a colossal dark metallic war ship, it allows you to show off your own personality.

Adding bigger weapons to your Corvette increases your firepower. Add sleeping quarters, a nutrition unit and internal furnishings and you are ready to welcome a crew of friends on board. Add a mission radar and you are ready to adventure. A teleporter and you have an away team. Or just a window… and suddenly there are these special moments, watching as the universe flies by outside at warp speed.

Having multiple Corvettes flying over a planet together is incredible, especially when you pop the hatch and spacewalk or skydive from one ship to the other!

By design, Corvettes are encountered a little way into the game and veteran players will be able to unlock them reasonably swiftly. But we wanted to give all players a taste of what they can expect, so the accompanying “Corvette” expedition is specifically designed to get you to the workshop as quickly as possible and to take you on a journey which unlocks some of the parts you’re going to need to build out your sci-fi fantasy.

The team at Hello have been working on Voyagers for a long time. The technical challenges they have had to overcome to make any of this possible have been immense. Almost every part of the game has had to be reworked to accommodate these relative spaces. Having your multiplayer crew walking around, calmly editing your ship, as it travels at warp speeds towards a planet that is being generated as you approach. It's pretty insane what's going on behind the scenes to make that work.

Much of the technology we’re introducing with Voyagers is shared with our next game, Light No Fire, which is a truly open world, a shared Earth-sized planet, with real oceans to traverse, needing large boats and crews. We love that we get to share this technology with players early. You can wishlist Light No Fire (https://store.steampowered.com/app/2719590/Light_No_Fire/).

The most exciting thing about Voyagers for me is the possibilities it opens in the future for No Man’s Sky, and I can’t wait to see where the team takes it from here.

I can’t believe that in the past 12 months we released Worlds Part I, Worlds Part II, and Voyagers - all huge changes to this game we care about so much.

To celebrate our ninth anniversary, we’re also releasing our latest range of No Man’s Sky merchandise that we hope you’ll enjoy, including:

PLUSHIES

Our Gek and Traveller plushies are available for a limited time from youtooz (https://youtooz.com/collections/no-mans-sky).

Introducing...No Man's Sky BEACON

Hello,

Today we’re pleased to announce the release of our latest update for No Man’s Sky. (https://www.nomanssky.com/beacon-update) completely overhauls settlements, bringing towns and their management to No Man’s Sky. There are huge new robotic settlements to discover, with impossibly new sci-fi buildings. Full patch notes are available (https://www.nomanssky.com/beacon-update).

Players can become town mayor and take ownership of multiple settlements. You can construct buildings and upgrade each one, with new building types like jukebox bars where you can choose the music, merchants where you can build custom starships or even ponds you can chill and fish at.

One of the coolest additions in BEACON is the arrival of the robotic Autophage settlements. The most recent race introduced to No Man’s Sky, these large towns are built in their own image, an identifiable robotic style, all metal and mechanics. Unique Autophage building parts can be constructed in your own base and add a very hard sci-fi style to your dwellings and constructions.

For the ambitious Traveller, multiple settlements can now be owned and managed by one Overseer, so for instance you won’t need to abandon your existing charges to bring these new robotic citizens under your wing.

Settlement visitors will also notice a complete level up of building details across all settlement types, including weathered building materials, upgraded settlement buildings and new settlement utilities.

Each inhabitant can be conversed with, with their own abilities and attributes to manage. As town mayor you’ll be enlisted to welcome new settlers, resolve disputes, and make choices to create prosperity.

It’s not all work, work, work though! You and your citizens can enjoy the more relaxing aspects of new settlement life too, including music, fishing and firework parties.

A well managed settlement can make their owners rich in resources, but they need to be protected. Travellers can hire a squadron of wingmen, who will now defend towns when they come under attack from roving pirates.

Threats have become more varied and unpredictable so you will need to stay on your guard and be prepared to defend your investments at a moment's notice.

To show the settlements off in their best light possible, and to level up the visuals of the No Man’s Sky universe overall, we are also introducing, with BEACON,a cutting edge graphical upgrade in the form of Intel XeSS2. The improvement this technology brings to the look and feel of the game is unbelievable.

Away from the huge settlement makeover, BEACON offers many more quality of life improvements which the community will love, such as the ability to change or even disable the voice communicator of your exosuit, and improved base part snapping to name just a few.

We introduced Cross-Save for No Man’s Sky at the end of last year to a limited few to ensure it was robust and that people’s thousand hour saves weren’t in jeopardy. Ever since we’ve slowly been opening up to more and more players and, with BEACON, I’m happy to announce that we are opening up Cross-Save fully to the entire player base. Now everyone can continue their travels no matter what platform they are playing on.

And Cross Save and Cross Play are particularly important as this update we also are releasing a cutting edge version of No Man’s Sky for Switch 2 launch.

It’s been fun to see Travellers exploring the universe in search of alien remains since we released the RELICS update last month, creating ever-wilder creature permutations and turning their bases into mini-museums. BEACON is the third update of the year and there’s plenty more planned. I’m so proud of the small team for continuing to pour such passion into this game we love so much.

Full patch notes (https://www.nomanssky.com/beacon-update).

Our journey continues.

P.S. If you feel so inclined, please take a moment to wishlist our next game, Light No Fire (https://store.steampowered.com/app/2719590/Light_No_Fire/).

Introducing...No Man's Sky: RELICS

Hello!

Following hot on the heels of the massive Worlds Part II update back in January which introduced a whole range of visual enhancements, gameplay additions and quality of life improvements, the small No Man’s Sky team have let their imaginations run wild and been having a lot of fun playing around with something really whimsical but remarkably transformative for what is possibly our most surprising update yet. We’re calling it (https://www.nomanssky.com/relics-update) and it is available to download free to existing players from today. Full patch notes are available (https://www.nomanssky.com/relics-update).

Since launch, because of the way that No Man’s Sky’s planetary terrain works, No Man’s Sky players have enjoyed being able to dig down through the earth to find buried technologies or other valuable items hidden beneath their feet. From today, players will start to find a whole new category of palaeontological finds - the skeletal remains of alien creatures which used to inhabit these worlds. So terrain manipulators at the ready!

Just as the living creatures which continue to populate the star systems, there is a huge variety of prehistoric bones, in all shapes and sizes, to excavate and collect. It’s up to you how you reassemble them and there’s a lot of fun to be had building ever-more outrageous skeletons to put on display in your bases-turned-museums or share with your fellow Travellers.

Much like with the aquatic life from the Aquarius expedition from last year, the skulls and bones out there to be discovered vary hugely in rarity so you never quite know what you’re going to unearth. The most uncommon finds hold huge value and can be bartered with at the Space Station.

To coincide with RELICS, a tailor-made community expedition starts shortly which challenges players to compete for the rarest finds.

Players should be wary where they choose to excavate though. Much like how the Sentinels keep watch above ground, or the fiends protect their whispering eggs, dangerous artefact creatures guard the greatest treasure and can be easily awoken from their eon-long slumber!

The RELICS update brings the sense of a before-time to No Man’s Sky and we think players will have a lot of fun digging into the new-found palaeontology of the universe. Who knows, they may even find the massive skeleton of the epic and awesome Titan Worm.

The year got off to a great start with Worlds Part II and we welcomed a huge influx of new players. I can’t wait to show you what else we have in store for 2025.

Full patch notes for RELICS can be found (https://www.nomanssky.com/relics-update).

Our journey continues.

A robust and well-made covering: waterproof, windproof and designed to keep the wearer protected against anything they may encounter while exploring unmapped worlds.

“Pillar of Titan” Staff

This sturdy staff is hewn from polished stone, and yet floats in the hand as if it were no weight at all. It is a perfect companion to those who seek to make long trips across the wilderness.

The Wraith

Survey new worlds in the Titan Expedition to claim The Wraith, a unique living ship dredged from the inky depths of a water world.

Once earned, these rewards may be redeemed across all your save games.

Begin the Titan expedition from the Expedition Terminus aboard the Space Anomaly, or from a fresh new save, which you can later choose to convert a Normal Mode save.

Note that new saves converted to Normal Mode in this way will continue to have access to the new purple star systems, and the story mission In Stellar Multitudes will not be available.

Our upcoming game, Light No Fire, is powered by the same engine that drives No Man’s Sky. If you’re interested to see where we take our technology next, you can keep up with news by wishlisting Light No Fire on Steam (https://store.steampowered.com/app/2719590/Light_No_Fire/).

Introducing...Worlds Part II

Hello!

No Man’s Sky is a game that we all genuinely truly love. Last year we released Worlds Part I and I remember thinking at the time that this is just the beginning. We can’t wait to show people what we’ve been working on! There’s new solar systems, new planets with more variety, new terrain types, even new Gas Giants, and of course new adventures. Our next update is called Worlds Part II. Full patch notes are available (https://www.nomanssky.com/worlds-part-ii-update).

Worlds Part II allows us to push the boundaries of our engine with new technology.

Across the universe we’re adding billions of new solar systems and trillions of new planets, and introducing new biomes and terrains without changing what people already love about the game. It’s now so far beyond what we ever thought was possible when we started out.

I’ve been working on a new terrain system for a little while now. Terrain is more detailed and far more varied with huge mountains and these massive features. I’m genuinely at my happiest working on this stuff.

The team is extremely busy on Light No Fire (wishlist it (https://store.steampowered.com/app/2719590/Light_No_Fire/)!). Each time we push our engine to new places though we have this urge to share it with the community, with No Man’s Sky.

Gas giants are truly epic, ten times bigger than our biggest planet. It’s truly end-game stuff to explore them with huge storms that rage across the surface.

New tech allows oceans that can be several kilometers deep. A new lighting system makes them look so different. New caustics, light shafts and the deeper that you explore the darker it gets. I’ve had these moments where you’re exploring and suddenly some huge creature comes into view and it’s just incredible.

Every element of our lighting has been rewritten. Shadows show more details, light flickers through the leaves, caves are dark and immersive. Oceans now reflect the clouds and stars to create these beautiful sunsets and night skies.

Water reacts physically to the world around it. Creatures wade through it. There’s little dimples in the rain, and there are large waves as ships fly overhead. Sometimes there’s these moments where a ship just flies past the still ocean and the water ripples underneath and it’s just so peaceful to watch.

In the depths of the ocean and on land there’s these new creatures to discover. I think we’ve gone probably weirder than ever before. When you land on a planet all the tech combines to create an emotion, that feeling of knowing that no one has ever been on this world before. I think it’s what makes this game really special.

There’s tonnes of new gameplay too. There’s this huge quest that ties together some strands that we’ve been building for years. We’ve got an expedition that takes you on a tour of all the new worlds that we’re building and it’s got some incredible rewards.

This is our ninth year since release. I think we’re doing things that the community probably never thought would happen. I honestly can’t wait for you all to play.

Full patch notes are available (https://www.nomanssky.com/worlds-part-ii-update).

Aquarius Expedition back for a limited time only

Hello!

As part of our season of 2024 Expedition Reduxes, the (https://www.nomanssky.com/2024/09/aquarius-update/) Expedition goes live today. It will run for two weeks until 22nd January.

Back in September 2024, we launched the Aquarius update, and with it introduced fishing to No Man's Sky, partly because it's just a fun thing to do alone or with friends, but mostly to show off the new water effects which the Worlds Part I update had ushered in a few months before!

It's fair to say that introducing something as seemingly incongruous as fishing into a sci-fi world has been met with almost universal joy from the community. Clearly there was a pent-up need to pause the exploration, base-building, or adventuring for a while, find a suitable waterside spot, and sit and relax while waiting to see what the catch of the day would be!

The Aquarius Update also introduced a new waterborne platform, the ExoSkiff which enables you to venture further from the shoreline and fish for bigger catches in deeper waters.

The Aquarius Expedition which accompanied the update encouraged Travellers to explore the vast array of water expanses the universe had to offer and hone their angling skills in the pursuit of the limited time rewards, not least the Deep Sea diving suit and Aquarius Flight Pack.

These rewards and many more are once again available to claim from today for those who embark on the Aquarius Expedition Redux which runs from the 8th to the 22nd January.

The final Redux of the 2024 Expeditions, The Cursed, which includes the vaunted UFO-style Boundary Herald Starship will follow on 22nd January.

The small No Man's Sky team are working very hard on some really exciting things for 2025 and we can't wait to share them with you very soon.

Our journey continues.

Sean

P.S. Perhaps while you're waiting for a bite on your line, you may want to wishlist our next big game, Light No Fire (https://store.steampowered.com/app/2719590/Light_No_Fire/).

Limited edition "Starborn Phoenix" to celebrate our TGA Community Support nod!

Hello Everyone!

The first of 2024’s holiday expeditions has just come to an end: the redux of (https://www.nomanssky.com/omega-update/). We’ve loved reading everyone’s expedition anecdotes and positive feedback, and seeing the incredible popularity of the Starborn Runner starship. However, if you missed this opportunity to claim the Starborn Runner (or if you just can’t get enough of its hovership design) we have some very good news…

Today, in association with The Game Awards 2024 and to celebrate our Best Community Support nomination, we are excited to reveal the Starborn Phoenix, a limited edition golden starship.

The Starborn Phoenix is free to claim on Steam right now, until 10:00 PT / 18:00 GMT on Dec 19th - even if you don’t own No Man’s Sky. You can then redeem your ship in-game from the Quicksilver Synthesis Companion aboard the Space Anomaly.

Claim your Starborn Phoenix starship on Steam (https://store.steampowered.com/app/3380990/).

In addition, the (https://www.nomanssky.com/2024/05/expedition-thirteen-adrift/) expedition, first run back in May of this year, is running again now, offering one more chance to unlock another sought-after starship, exclusive to Adrift - the Iron Vulture.

Alone in an empty universe, Adrift redefines what it means to survive among the stars. Communications from other Travellers are consumed by static, and in a reality devoid of other lifeforms, there are no shops, no trading, no shortcuts and no help, providing a very different survival experience.

The Adrift expedition runs for two weeks until 25th December.

The remaining expedition redux dates are as follows:

**Liquidators: 25th Dec - 8th Jan

Aquarius: 8th Jan - 22nd Jan

The Cursed: 22nd Jan - 5th Feb**

While you’re enjoying these second bites of the expedition cherry over the holiday season, know that the tiny No Man’s Sky team are working hard on more surprises for 2025.

We’d like to wish our entire community very happy holidays!

Our journey continues.

2024 Expedition Reduxes are now on!

Hello Everyone!

2024 has been another impactful year for No Man’s Sky, with the team pouring so much love into every update. (https://www.nomanssky.com/omega-update), (https://www.nomanssky.com/orbital-update), WORLDS PART I and (https://www.nomanssky.com/aquarius-update) added breadth and depth to so many areas of the universe - from a complete overhaul of the expedition system, starship customisation, elaborate new space stations, new planetary biomes, incredible rendering improvements to water and clouds, and so much more. A few weeks ago, we even introduced CROSS-SAVE between our huge number of supported platforms.

This year has also seen no fewer than five(!) community expeditions, bringing Travellers together in a certain corner of the universe to experience a themed event and work together to complete unique challenges and earn limited-time exclusive rewards.

We know that our players have busy lives, and know more than most that there are other games to play. That’s why, for the last couple of years, it has become customary for the No Man’s Sky team to re-run the expeditions from that year over the holiday period when leisure time is more plentiful, and in a “reduxed” form such that they can be completed and rewards unlocked with relative ease.

We will be re-running this year’s expeditions over two-week intervals from Thanksgiving weekend through December and January.

Omega: 27th Nov - 11th Dec

Answer the call of the universe in the Omega expedition. Explore, build, fight, and more through a diverse set of milestones, and unpick the threads of a mystery involving the past, the present, and what could be.

Adrift: 11th Dec - 25th Dec

Alone in an empty universe, the Adrift Expedition redefines what it means to survive among the stars. Communications from other Travellers are consumed by static, and in a reality devoid of other lifeforms, there are no shops, no trading, no shortcuts and no help, providing a very different survival experience.

Liquidators: 25th Dec - 8th Jan

Engage in a galactic bug hunt in this high-paced combat expedition, full of custom-balanced swarm combat. A vile brood is spreading corruption across the universe – join the Liquidator Vanguard to do your part and purge the rot from the stars!

Aquarius: 8th Jan - 22nd Jan

Go on a quest across the galaxy to catch fish, gather stories, and think about the one that got away. Find your perfect waterside spot and cast off, or venture into the ocean on your deployable Exo-Skiff. Craft specialist bait, establish a fish farm, cook seafood, and more.

The Cursed: 22nd Jan - 5th Feb

Fight to keep a grip on reality while haunted by visions and voices from another dimension. In this twilight realm, straddling the boundary between one reality and the next, there is no access to hyperdrive technology, and interstellar travel can only take place via the ancient portal network. Who do the haunting voices belong to, where are they coming from, and are they to be trusted?

These re-runs present another opportunity not only to experience these community events, but also to earn any missed rewards! Rewards for the 2024 expeditions include exclusive sets of Atlas, deep sea, and bug-themed customisations, the Iron Vulture, Starborn Runner, and Boundary Herald starships, a ghostly frigate, and so much more!

Please also take a moment to wishlist Light No Fire (https://store.steampowered.com/app/2719590/Light_No_Fire/)!

Cross-Save, PS5 Pro and...the return of the Normandy!

Hello,

This year has already been a very busy one for No Man’s Sky, with 6 updates already this year, including the huge Worlds Update. Our last update, The Cursed, dropped just a couple of weeks ago, and players have been loving the spooky Halloween vibe.

In game development some features take weeks or months, and others take years. Today we are releasing some features that have been years in the making.

Cross-Save

Starting from today we are rolling out Cross-Save support on all platforms. This has been a huge undertaking, and is one of most requested features.

Being able to jump seamlessly between platforms is really transformative. Players can play from the comfort of their sofa on console, continue an Expedition on the move with Switch or Steam Deck, build an incredible base on their beefy PC rig, and view it in incredibly immersive Virtual Reality.

No Man’s Sky now supports Cross-play and Cross-save between a huge number of platforms including PC, PlayStation 4 & Xbox One and Series X/S, Game Pass, GOG, Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck, PlayStation VR 1 & 2 and PCVR.

Adding the ability to transfer saves between platforms via a server is especially difficult for No Man’s Sky, as the work involved increases with each platform supported and how long folks have already been playing for. Both those numbers are large for our tiny team.

It’s very common for players to rack up thousands of hours of saves exploring across space, building elaborate bases and cataloging their discoveries, with incredibly detailed saves. Adding Cross-Save for us is a little bit like moving house, the longer people have lived there the more complicated it is to move them! We also have players who played once at launch, eight years ago, suddenly loading up that save on a platform that didn’t even exist back then!

For these reasons we have secretly been introducing the technology for this update for over 6 months. We are now ready to start rolling Cross-Save out to a small number of players. From today, all No Man’s Sky players can connect their different platform accounts together at https://cloud.nomanssky.com/cross-save. A subset of players will then be admitted to the beta. Participants in the beta will be able to upload and download saves from any connected platform, via the in-game save screen. In the coming weeks, all players will be invited to do so.

PlayStation 5 Pro

PlayStation 5 Pro releases today and is an incredible feat of engineering. We were so excited to get our hands on it from early days of development. We couldn’t wait to see what was possible in No Man’s Sky with so much power at our disposal!

We're excited to be able to share an enhanced version of No Man's Sky for PlayStation 5 Pro with players at launch. Bringing even more detail and higher image quality than ever possible on console before.

PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) allows for incredible upscaling to provide crisp 4K resolution at 60fps. No Man's Sky will also be an early supporter of 8k resolution, with the universe looking incredible in 8K at 30fps.

As well as a much sharper resolution at higher framerates, the increased power of the PlayStation 5 Pro has enabled us to ramp up the graphical quality across the board. Players on PlayStation 5 Pro will see improved lighting, with ultra quality reflections and higher quality ambient occlusion in all modes. Explore the most beautiful and detailed alien worlds No Man's Sky has to offer, for the first time on console.

Not only this, but all of these improvements also come to PSVR2! With our most stunning virtual reality imagery offering an even more immersive experience for Travellers amongst the stars.

The small team at Hello Games like nothing more than to play around with new technology. From supporting our players on first generation hardware, right back to Switch and PlayStation 4, to the highest end PCs, next generation consoles, and now support for cutting edge PlayStation Pro 5 is available at launch as another free update.

The PlayStation Pro update was already pushed live quietly in The Cursed update, so if you already have hardware, you can play it NOW!

The Normandy Returns

Everyone here at Hello Games is a huge sci-fi nerd. One of our absolute favourite series is the incredible Mass Effect games. To join in Mass Effect’s annual N7 celebrations, we are pleased to welcome the legendary SSV Normandy SR1 back into No Man’s Sky!

It was back in 2021 that the Normandy made its first appearance in one of the first expeditions we ever ran. The limited-time expedition starts today, runs for two weeks and culminates in players being able to claim the Normandy for their fleet.

In the intervening years since that event, we have welcomed a huge number of Travellers, not least a whole new cohort of Switch players and an increasingly large number of Chinese fans. Many of these new players have envied those who proudly displayed their Normandy in their frigate collection.

Mass Effect fans know that this legendary frigate only appears when it is most needed! Today, and for the next two weeks, as a love-letter from one science fiction game to another, we are giving everyone another chance to encounter the Normandy in an overhauled version of the original mission and add it to their collection.

Huge thanks to our friends at EA and BioWare for helping make this happen.

It has been a momentous year for No Man’s Sky in a number of ways. We’re so grateful to be able to continue this journey with you.

Don't forget to wishlist Light No Fire (https://store.steampowered.com/app/2719590/Light_No_Fire/)!

Introducing..The Cursed Expedition!

Hello Everyone!

Our last update saw players enjoying a nice chilled time, fishing in No Man's Sky. Our next update couldn't be more different! As we approach Halloween, we are embracing the spookier side of the No Man's Sky Universe, drawing upon threads first established way back in Atlas Rises, when ancient portals began to open and the boundaries between realities first began to crumble…

Today, we are announcing expedition sixteen: The Cursed - where players will fight to keep a grip on reality while haunted by visions and voices from another dimension. Full patch notes can be found (https://www.nomanssky.com/2024/10/expedition-sixteen-the-cursed/).

The Cursed takes place in a sort of twilight realm, straddling the boundary between one reality and the next.

Travellers will not have access to hyperdrive technology, meaning no warping between star systems. Instead, interstellar travel can only take place via the ancient portal network.

Haunting voices, leaking through from another dimension, will provide guidance, information, strange blueprints… and mystery. It is up to you to decide who these voices belong to, where they are coming from, and if they are to be trusted.

In regular No Man’s Sky play, Travellers must steel themselves against a variety of environmental hazards such as extreme temperatures, radioactivity, and toxic atmospheres. The Cursed, however, pits you against a single, more insidious threat: the weakening of the boundaries of reality. Your exosuit comes fitted with a specialised Anomaly Suppressor; maintain it to stay firmly in this reality.

Spectral anomalies - ghostly creatures drifting across the boundaries - will gather to watch Travellers moving through their domain. Most of the time, they are simply there to observe, but be warned: as your suit’s Anomaly Suppressor weakens, time will begin to behave in non-linear ways, and these anomalies may turn hostile.

Travellers will need to prepare a number of otherworldly concoctions to navigate through The Cursed. Sustain boundary strength with the Elixir of Glass, reveal the location of portals with the Elixir of Quicksilver, and prise open the gateways with the Elixir of Blood. For those that reach the end of the journey, its final trial will require a drink from the Elixir of Water - and the consequences thereafter.

The Cursed expedition begins today, and will run for approximately two weeks. Travel beyond the boundaries, and fortify your mind against spectral anomalies - or succumb to the call of the world of glass.

The Cursed Expedition Rewards
Boundary Anomaly, Portal Breach and Glyph Posters

Remember your journey across the boundaries with these decorative posters: warnings to all those who would venture into the tunnels of the portal network.

Anomaly Seal Base Part

During The Cursed, the spectral energy radiating from this ancient artifact protects nearby entities against catastrophic reality breaches.

In a more stable universe, the Anomaly Seal serves as a decorative souvenir from beyond the boundaries.

Ink-Stained Jetpack Trail

An exclusive jetpack customisation. A localised anomaly within the jetpack's core allows the spectral afterglow of the boundary horrors to leak across into this reality.

Boundary Horror Mandibles

An exclusive Exosuit Appearance Override. Transform your facade into that of a Boundary Horror, a fragment of what dwells beyond the tunnels of the portal network...

Bioluminescent Companion

The egg of a gelatinous and luminescent lifeform. This unusual companion creature is lit by a haunting pale glow.

Boundary Herald Starship

Retrieve this exclusive starship from the reality collapse, and slice through the skies in saucer-like style.

Development Update

The Cursed expedition is our sixth named update for 2024, following (https://www.nomanssky.com/omega-update), (https://www.nomanssky.com/orbital-update), (https://www.nomanssky.com/2024/05/expedition-thirteen-adrift/), Worlds Part I, and (https://www.nomanssky.com/2024/09/aquarius-update/). It has been a busy year so far! It’s incredible to think that only a few weeks ago, fishing didn’t exist in No Man’s Sky.

We are continuing to build our universe, and have much more in store. Thank you for playing.

Introducing...No Man's Sky Aquarius

Hello Everyone!

Today, the Aquarius Update is free to download for existing players and introduces something we have been tempted to add ever since we stood on the shores of No Man’s Sky’s planets and looked out across their watery expanses - fishing! Full patch notes are available (https://www.nomanssky.com/2024/09/aquarius-update/).

Players can now explore the universe to find their perfect waterside spot, hopping with fish - sit and relax alone with their thoughts, or with fellow Travellers looking out over alien vistas waiting for a bite.

Fishing

Fishing in No Man’s Sky is a uniquely relaxing experience, either alone with your thoughts or with the companionship of others. Grab a rod and your friends (optional!) and set out to explore the universe in the hunt for the perfect fishing spot.

The thrill of the catch lies in the fact that you never quite know what you’re going to pull up. The variety of aquatic life ranges vastly from common minnow-like fish to huge alien marine mammals. Catches vary greatly from planet-to-planet and dedicated anglers will have to travel far to find the rarest of fish.

Exo-Skiff

Venture into the ocean on your deployable Exo-Skiff. This customisable fishing platform floats over the roughest seas and has its own bespoke cold storage inventory, making it the perfect way to hunt for those fish that are only found in deep waters.

Explore to find rare catches

Travellers who wish to complete their fishing log will have to explore a huge range of different environments and water conditions, as well as crafting specialist bait to attract rare catches and elusive legendary fish…

And while you’re waiting patiently to catch a bite, why not dredge for messages in bottles from those that have passed this way before?

Automated Fish Traps

Research the Automated Trap blueprints and establish your own autonomous floating fish farm to gather in fish while you explore elsewhere.

Aquarius Expedition

The Aquarius expedition begins today, and will run for approximately six weeks. Go on a quest across the galaxy to catch fish, gather stories, and think about the one that got away… Players who complete the Aquarius expedition will earn a beautifully detailed set of deep-sea customisation parts, including a unique underwater jetpack.

New Cooking Recipes

Of course, with this new-found ability to farm the lakes, seas and oceans, you will want to develop your cooking skills, with all-new recipes and ingredient combinations out there to be discovered.

Fishing Records

The Wonders Catalogue now has a dedicated collection of fishing information, detailing the history of all your catches and their weight records, as well as information on how to find each species.

Deep-Sea Diving Suit

Hardened against the extreme conditions found beneath the waves, this diving suit is the perfect choice for both deep-water exploration and an afternoon's fishing.

Aquarius Poster Collection

Decorate the walls of your fishing shack with the Sea Chart, Bounty of the Sea and Gone Fishin' posters.

Lost Angler’s Rig

Complete the Aquarius Expedition to uncover the fishy tale of the Lost Angler and earn the use of their exclusive fishing equipment.

Tentacled Figurine

A synthetic polymer companion for your starship’s cockpit, fashioned in the likeness of a sea creature.

Aquarius Flight Pack

Hardened against the extreme conditions found beneath the waves, this jetpack replacement allows for smooth and stylish passage through the murky abyss.

Development Update

Our last update was “Worlds Part I” just a few weeks ago. It resulted in our biggest player numbers in over 5 years. Eight years in and we feel so lucky to have so many folks still care about this game we love. It gives our tiny team energy, making us want to pour more into the No Man’s Sky universe.

Something people really loved in the Worlds update was the new water technology - tons of players were posting videos of themselves just chilling at the water’s edge. One piece of fan art in particular stopped us in our tracks, of a player lazily fishing from their wing of their starship. This art, and others like it, was right at the heart of the inspiration behind the Aquarius update.

My favourite thing is to build a little base on the perfect shoreline, so I can cast my rod whenever the mood takes me. I’m excited for new players to join me!

Full patch notes for Aquarius are available (https://www.nomanssky.com/2024/09/aquarius-update).

Introducing Worlds Part I - the 5.0 update

Hello!

I’m here to give you a heads up about the largest No Man’s Sky update of the year so far. So much so that we’ve made the usual trailer, and also this Deep Dive video that shows a glimpse behind the scenes.

Our next update is called Worlds Part I, and I’m so proud of the team here, the love they are putting into it. We are refreshing the universe with new technology, new flora, new fauna and new gameplay.

Full patch notes can be found (https://www.nomanssky.com/worlds-part-i-update/)

In No Man’s Sky, what you see on screen is generated by the computer. The level of variety we are achieving is far beyond what was possible before.

With every update we still want to surprise. Eight years in on this journey and we still want to do big things, and I think we’re adding things the community has almost given up hope on ever happening. It’s not just about new cosmetics for us, we want to really impact No Man’s Sky.

When we started No Man’s Sky, we wanted people to feel like they had stepped into a science fiction book cover. To bring us closer to that we’ve had to create a lot of new technology.

New water technology can create waves, reflections. Oceans that look so different to what we’ve had previously. Ocean planets feel completely new, and ships can now land on water. Planets have wind patterns. Waves are dynamic and react to weather

My favourite thing in the game still might just be flying through the clouds and out into space. Clouds for us are a unique challenge, you see them from space, from planet, you can fly through them. Our new cloud tech creates detailed skies with weather conditions. You get these beautiful detailed skies, with tonnes of variety.

On the surface of the planet we’ve added new volumetrics and atmospherics. Rolling fog, rain, blizzards, lava sparks, combine with wind and clouds. It changes how planets feel to explore, adds so much more life.

Sometimes a storm hits, and you see the waves rise and the clouds gather. The new wind, the clouds, the oceans, the atmospherics all hit together and it feels like nothing else.

Across these new biomes, we’ve added new creatures to discover. We are pushing the level of variety that’s possible even further. It’s not enough to just add more, we want to do things that people haven’t seen before. And of course, these new creatures can all be pets and mounts.

No Man's Sky is a game about exploring, so how planets look and feel is important, but what you do on those planets is something we want to add to with every update. Expeditions have become a huge part of how folks play the game. We’ve made something very Starship Troopers inspired with this one, it’s really different and it takes you on a tour of some of these cool new planets. Everyone is battling against bugs together, and progress is community driven. There’s a new mech with heavy armour and a cool flamethrower arm. And you are going to need it!

Six months ago we announced Light No Fire. You can wishlist it (https://store.steampowered.com/app/2719590/Light_No_Fire/)It’s this insanely ambitious game. Over the last five years making this game, we’ve learnt new things, and we’re feeding that back into No Man’s Sky. It feels like we’re bringing technology back from the future!

Something I love is to browse the screenshots people share with us. I can’t wait to see folks exploring this universe we’ve made with fresh eyes. The update is called Worlds Part I, because I guess obviously…more will follow.

The Adrift Expedition is now on!

Hello!

A lot has changed in the years since No Man’s Sky released. There’s so much we love about the game now, but there was something unique at release in how alone you felt in the universe. Going further back I have great memories of early unreleased versions of No Man’s Sky where there were no NPCs, no shops, no help… just you the player as a tiny dot lost in the infinite.

For our next update we wanted to allow players to experience an alternative universe. We are calling it (https://www.nomanssky.com/2024/05/expedition-thirteen-adrift/), and for the first time players can be truly alone in No Man’s Sky. We think it’s a special feeling. Full details can be found (https://www.nomanssky.com/2024/05/expedition-thirteen-adrift/ ).

Removing other lifeforms means no shops, no trading, no shortcuts and no help, providing a very different survival experience.

This alternative universe is more dangerous too, with sandworms now roaming free and fiend eggs spreading across planets.

Buildings are broken and rusted, the few remaining landmarks the graves of lost Travellers. In space, a new ghostly frigate beckons, allowing players to recruit a piece of this lonely universe.

To help provide safe haven is a new bulky Hauler starship, called the Iron Vulture. Since we added ship customisation in our last update, we’re also seeding the game with lots of new customisation options in Adrift.

Adrift was supposed to be our next expedition, which it is, but it’s ballooned out into an update filled with improvements, new unique gameplay content and rewards.

We're already two huge updates into the year, with the release of (https://www.nomanssky.com/omega-update) - where we invited everyone to try the game for free! - and (https://www.nomanssky.com/orbital-update), which overhauled space stations and introduced a long-requested feature: ship customisation. We are grateful to have such an incredible community; it has been exciting and fascinating to see you all hunting, salvaging and documenting the hundreds of starship components available to assemble your dream ships.

We have much, much more planned for 2024. Our journey continues.

Sean

Adrift Expedition

Step into an empty universe, where you will find yourself surrounded by other Travellers… yet somehow still alone.

Though everyone will awaken on the desolate, worm-infested planet Iapezuk, you will not be together in the usual sense. The boundaries between realities have thickened. Communication is consumed by static. Even the usually-bustling Space Anomaly is eerily silent.

In this forsaken universe, deprived of the usual support from merchants and traders, self-reliance is more critical than ever. Survive a spread of repair, exploration, and combat challenges - and meditate upon the darkness of deep space.

Completing this lonely journey will award an exclusive range of collectibles, including the gnawing scuttler companion, a supply of starship stealth paint, a ghostly frigate, and the unique Iron Vulture starship

Adrift begins today, and will run for approximately seven weeks.

Adrift Expedition Rewards
Meditation, Alone in the Dark, and Isolation Posters

Contemplate your journey through Adrift with posters that recall the empty endless void of space and the scale of that infinite, black expanse...

Stealth Paint

An exclusive starship customisation option, creating a unique low-radar-signature look for your ship.

Starship Wreckage Base Parts

Introducing...No Man's Sky: ORBITAL

Hello,

Only last month we welcomed a huge number of new Travellers to the No Man’s Sky universe with our free (https://www.nomanssky.com/omega-update) expedition, which brought a tonne of new content. It’s incredible to watch new folks getting to experience eight years of updates since launch.

Today (March 27th) we are releasing our 27th major update - (https://www.nomanssky.com/orbital-update) - and this is a big one! Full patch notes can be found (https://www.nomanssky.com/orbital-update).

The Orbital update brings a complete overhaul to Space Stations. Until now these have been perhaps the only part of No Man’s Sky that wasn’t procedurally generated. Engine improvements have allowed us to create vast interior spaces and exterior spaces, with improved reflection and metallic surfaces.

Outside, Space Station exteriors are at a scale never seen before, and are hugely varied.

Inside, Stations have been transformed, and are now vast, procedurally generated, and incredibly diverse. Featuring new shops, gameplay and activities, Stations are now uniquely customised based on system, race and locale.

Stations also contain perhaps our most requested feature of all time! A ship editor allows players to customise their ships and players can even create never before seen starship types.

We haven’t introduced ship customisation previously, because so many players love exploring to find the perfect ship already out there to purchase. In keeping with exploration, to customise their ship, Travellers gather and trade parts for their ships as they explore, salvaging the best components from wrecks and ruins.

We are also introducing a new Guild system, making joining Guilds and increasing reputation a much larger part of the game. Visit new Guild envoys on Space Stations to gain supplies and rare items, or make donations to increase your standing.

You can own a freighter and even build up a fleet of frigates in No Man’s Sky. Now you can send that frigate fleet on away missions where if they get into trouble, as frigate captain, you can perform daring rescues. Scramble your squadron of fighters, warp to battles, and engage your attackers.

The Orbital update adds ship customisation, transforms Space Stations inside and out, adds a new guild system, engine improvements, UI refresh and much more. It’s a huge update with several major features that have been on player’s wishlists for a long time. We have a lot more planned this year as our journey continues. Full patch notes can be found (https://www.nomanssky.com/orbital-update).

Thanks so much,

Sean

Introducing..the OMEGA update!

Hello!

Last year was a busy one for the small team at Hello Games, with lots of No Man’s Sky updates and the announce of Light No Fire.

We have big plans for 2024, and we’re starting the year off with a very different kind of update. We’re calling it (https://www.nomanssky.com/omega-update), and for the first time No Man’s Sky will be available to play for free! Full patch notes (https://www.nomanssky.com/omega-update).

Expeditions in No Man’s Sky have become one of the most popular ways to play the game. They bring all players together to the same planet for an interstellar, shared experience. This weekend (Thursday 15th to Monday 19th February) we are allowing everyone, whether you own the game or not, to join the Omega Expedition.

This represents a moment for new players to try No Man’s Sky, and existing players to welcome them into the community. There are no microtransactions, no free to play mechanics, just a huge universe to explore for free with your friends.

The Omega update also brings a complete overhaul of expeditions, new on-planet missions, a new pirate dreadnought to own, and much more.

Until now expeditions have been their own game mode, but we wanted to fully integrate them into our main game. Now, our new expedition system allows travellers to join expeditions with bespoke provisions, bring along their favourite starships or custom multi-tools and return to their main save with loot and exciting rewards.

We have revisited the “Atlas Path”, allowing players to commune with the Atlas and honour it with a new Atlas staff, jetpack and helmet.

On planets we have introduced a huge array of procedurally generated quests. Talking to alien lifeforms results in quests specific to an alien lifeforms locale, climate and personality.

For the first time, take on the universe with a fleet of frigates led by a Dreadnought capital ship. If players can defeat pirate freighters in combat, travellers can board the Dreadnought to demand control.

At the core of this update is the Omega Expedition, which has been built from the ground up as a perfect introduction for new players, but with some of the best rewards in any expedition to date, including a gorgeous new starship to explore the universe with.

In the almost eight years since launch, through over 25 free updates, the No Man’s Sky universe has become at times overwhelming in breadth and depth. Through a series of quick missions and milestones, the OMEGA expeditions will guide you through the fundamentals of base-building, trading, space combat, lore and much, much more. Any progress you make will be retained in case you choose to purchase the game and continue your journey.

The Omega Expedition runs for 4 weeks from Thursday 15th February and is free to play for the first weekend until Monday 19th February. Full patch notes (https://www.nomanssky.com/omega-update).

Whether you’ve been on the journey with us for a while, or you're a lapsed player looking for a way back in, or a newcomer who’s always wanted to take a peek at what No Man’s Sky has to offer, everyone is welcome and there’s never been a better time to join in.

Our journey continues.

Introducing...No Man's Sky Echoes

Hello,

It’s unbelievable to me that it has been SEVEN years since No Man’s Sky was released, and to celebrate today we are releasing our largest update of the year - No Man’s Sky ECHOES. Full patch notes can be found (https://www.nomanssky.com/echoes-update).

Our aim with ECHOES has been to breathe new life into the universe, with a new robotic race, our first race introduced since launch in 2016.

We have also overhauled space combat with a focus on creating truly epic space battles, introducing freighter to freighter battles for the first time.

In ECHOES Travellers will discover a never seen before, long-hidden race of robots with rich new story content. Engage in robot assignments and rituals to earn a huge array of mechanical parts to create your own robotic avatar.

New Pirate freighters bring huge space battles to the universe. Defend fleets from pirates. Fly through enemy trenches to sabotage their shields, and destroy them!

Players can search out and assemble their own sci-fi ceremonial staff. Level this up with unique new technology to mine and battle your way through the universe.

Travellers can now search for, trade and scrap weapons, allowing players to become Multi-tool scrap merchants. Travellers can also choose from a wider array of weapons and tools, including the staff and also a new powerful Atlantid weapon.

This year we introduced the ability to store a catalogue of player’s most wondrous discoveries. A new Holographic museum allows you to decorate and display your favourite weird and wonderful discoveries in your base for others to visit and see.

An exploration focused expedition - VOYAGERS - starts soon for explorers and adventurers to explore the universe and catalogue its marvels. Together with a Twitch drops campaign this brings a host of new content and rewards for players.

These are just a few of the things that players can look forward to when they dive into the Echoes update from today.

It has already been a pretty busy year for the small No Man’s Sky team with players enjoying the launch of the (https://www.nomanssky.com/fractal-update) and (https://www.nomanssky.com/interceptor-update) updates and the major (https://www.nomanssky.com/2023/06/expedition-ten-singularity/) expedition. Fittingly (https://www.nomanssky.com/echoes-update) marks our anniversary by making our universe more exciting, dangerous and interesting to explore.

Our journey continues.

The Singularity Expedition Starts Today!

Hello Everyone!

Only last week, we launched No Man’s Sky on a whole new platform, bringing the galaxy to Mac owners everywhere! 2023 has already been an extremely busy and rewarding year for the team.

(https://www.nomanssky.com/fractal-update/) brought full native support for PSVR2, alongside a spread of accessibility and quality of life features while the accompanying. Utopia expedition experimented with a unique twist on gameplay, and united players under the umbrella of a universal habitation project.

More recently the (https://www.nomanssky.com/interceptor-update) update introduced a new ship to collect, a host of gameplay features, and began to peel back the first layers of a mystery centred around worlds corrupted by vivid purple crystals, abandoned “harmonic” encampments, and secrets whispered by disembodied robot heads…

Singularity Expedition

Today, we continue that story as we begin community expedition 10: SINGULARITY.

Explorers will begin their pilgrimage in a harmonic camp, nestled among the purple-hazed mountains of Ahei XV. Singularity is a narrative-heavy journey, and forms the second chapter of the story introduced in Interceptor.

We don’t want to spoil too much, but Travellers will be invited to unveil a little of the history and origin of the harmonic camps in a mystery that touches upon artificial intelligence, the will to exist, and the very nature of reality itself.

Nada and Polo will be there to support and assist Travellers with the assembly of a robotic construct, and with a communal goal that may shape the future of the universe…

Singularity’s mysteries extend into several layers, and players who are especially interested in the narrative can delve below the surface to uncover further clues to what is on the horizon for No Man’s Sky. We can’t wait for everyone to dive in and get started!

After completing Singularity, or when the expedition concludes, you will have the option to convert your progress to a Normal Mode save.

The exclusive rewards detailed below are registered at the Space Anomaly’s Quicksilver Synthesis Companion, and any earnt rewards may be redeemed across all save games.

The Singularity expedition begins today, and will run for approximately five weeks.

Singularity Expedition Rewards
Atlas, Atlantid, and Construct Posters

Decorate bases with these souvenirs of your Singularity journey – depicting the Atlas, the ethereal substance within corrupted Sentinels, and a possible schematic for a mysterious Construct.

Discordant Jetpack Trail

The jetpack exhaust is augmented with an atlantideum filter. When activated, its discordant effect is spilled across the landscape, a trail of dissonant reverberations that echo on an unknowable frequency.

Crimson Freighter Trail

A harmonic generation device converts the output of the freighter engines to Atlas frequencies, radiating a painfully crimson trail.

Living Fragment Base Decorations

This is a detailed replica of the Living Fragments that litter discordant worlds, the prismatic grains that thrust from the earth in a struggle for freedom from their geological prison.

Wayfarer’s Helm

Despite its aerodynamic appearance and advanced solar design, reliance on helmet-exclusive propulsion is not advised. For maximum safety, ensure all body parts are propelled equally.

Construct Customisation Set

Adopt the appearance of a primitive automaton with this full body customisation set.

A choice in the Singularity narrative will complete the automaton suit with the Atlantid or Crimson head.

Community Research

The Quicksilver Synthesis Companion has concluded their Geometric Cape schematic, which is now available for synthesis at their kiosk aboard the Space Anomaly. They thank Travellers for all the contributions towards their research, generated by the completion of Nexus missions.

A vintage garment woven from a star silk blend, bearing a classic geometric design.

The companion is taking a short rest from blueprint research, to contemplate their next project while Travellers focus on the Singularity expedition.

Community Spotlight

We're constantly marvelling at the community's creations and have highlighted some of our favourites (https://www.nomanssky.com/2023/06/expedition-ten-singularity/).

Development Update

Today, we are releasing update 4.27, which includes the Singularity expedition, as well as a number of stability and gameplay fixes. Full patch notes can be found (https://www.nomanssky.com/2023/06/expedition-ten-singularity).

We look forward to seeing everyone exploring Singularity’s challenges and narrative – and we have many more surprises in store for this year!

Our journey continues.

Introducing...the INTERCEPTOR Update

Hello!

Launching today, we wanted to shake things up a little with our next update - No Man’s Sky: (https://www.nomanssky.com/interceptor-update) - to bring a new gameplay experience, and also expand the lore of the game. Full patch notes are available (https://www.nomanssky.com/interceptor-update).

A new corruption has spread through the universe, blighting planets, bringing new enemies, new resources and a new Starship class, which is our most varied Starship to date.

Here’s just some of what players can expect from INTERCEPTOR:

Hugely Varied New Starship - expand your fleet by salvaging your perfect Sentinel ship, or collect a whole range of Interceptors.

Corrupt Worlds - many worlds have succumbed to corruption, with strange crystals sprouting from the earth, and sentinel guardians twisted into bizarre new forms. Explore these purple-hazed worlds to find new buildings, crashed interceptors, secret equipment and more…

VR Improvements - watching players on our new PSVR2 version has inspired us to add a whole bunch of improvements and new features for VR including wrist interface controls, improved visuals and more.

New Enemy Types - including huge spider-like enemies and their small crab-like children, plus new corrupted drones. These combat machines are some of our most lethal, armed with stealth tech, flamethrower and explosive weaponry.

New Tech - Interceptor ships are powered by unique new Sentinel technology, such as the Anti-Gravity Well and Crimson Core, requiring new resources to construct and fuel. There are new Sentinel Multi-Tools and a large winged Sentinel jetpack too.

Custom Wonders - inspired by how players have enjoyed the Wonders Catalogue from our previous update, so now you may curate your own collection of favourite discoveries with the Personal Records section of the Wonders catalogue. Bookmark spectacular planets, bizarre alien creatures, favourite flowers and more.

Sentinel Capital Ships - huge Sentinel Capital ships feature compelling space combat, and an ultimate goal for weaponry heavy ships. Defeating Sentinel freighter is incredibly bombastic but also clears your “wanted” status and earns new high-value rewards.

Performance and Visuals Improvements - our engine team is continually improving performance and visuals on all formats.

INTERCEPTOR launches today, free for existing players. Full patch notes (https://www.nomanssky.com/interceptor-update).

The enduring success of No Man’s Sky is due to the continued energy and creativity of this small team, but also to you - our welcoming community. We are tremendously grateful for your continued support of us and our journey.

We can’t wait to show you what else we’ve got in store for 2023.

Our journey continues

No Man's Sky Fractal Update

Hello,

We’re excited to let you know that today we are releasing our first major update of 2023. We’re calling it Fractal (version 4.1). Full patch notes are available (https://www.nomanssky.com/fractal-update).

All players can earn a stunning new starship, the Utopia Speeder, which allows travellers to skim across planet surfaces at high velocity. We’re also launching a new Expedition - “Utopia” - which challenges players to work together and rebuild an abandoned solar system for the mysterious Utopia Foundation. Other expedition rewards include an exclusive new helmet (the Fearsome Visor), a robotic drone companion and much more.

Steam Deck now supports gyroscopic controls, making exploring and scanning new discoveries more comfortable and precise than ever.

Speaking of which, the Wonders Catalogue shows off your most incredible discoveries, from tallest mountain to strangest creature, giving explorers a detailed record of their journey and allowing players to compare their records with fellow travellers.

We’ve also overhauled the game’s options for all platforms, introducing a raft of new accessibility features and giving players even more control over the way they play and experience the game.

The Fractal update brings a huge number of improvements and new experiences for everyone.

That’s already quite a large update, but there’s lots more! We’ve always been incredibly passionate about VR. No Man’s Sky is about exploration and there’s nothing quite like exploring the infinite universe in virtual reality. Our game has changed a huge amount since our small team introduced VR support back in 2019, and we were so excited to revisit and overhaul all virtual reality for all players.

Fractal brings a large range of improvements and quality of life changes for all VR players. Here’s a brief list of some of the features players old and new can expect when slipping on a headset:

  • Play the entirety of No Man’s Sky in Virtual Reality without compromise, with new levels of immersion.

  • Switch between VR and standard gameplay. Continue from an existing save to revisit favourite planets, bases and creatures in full virtual reality.

  • The HUD and user interface has been completely remade for virtual reality, to ensure every interaction available in the game feels natural and built for purpose. Including controlling Multi-Tool options via a menu embedded on the in-world Multi-Tool; and browsing the quick menu and inventory via a personal wrist-mounted display.

  • Lift open your starship’s cockpit, then reach out and grab the controls to take flight. Turn around for a full 360° view of the starship and vehicle cockpits, with incredible details only visible in VR.

  • Many interactions have been given special VR-only options, including: grabbing plants and other collectables with your hands; physically opening the cockpits of ships and exocraft; piloting starships directly with a VR stick/throttle; and punching objects to cause damage.

  • With complete head and hand tracking, interactions in virtual reality make No Man’s Sky more intuitive, tactile, and immersive than ever. Physically unholster your Multi-Tool from your shoulder. Intuitively aim and fire at targets, or put it away to engage in combat with your fists. Tap a button on your headset to toggle the Analysis Visor, then point towards fauna, flora, and minerals to scan and discover them.

2022 was a pretty packed year for No Man’s Sky with major free updates like (https://www.nomanssky.com/sentinel-update), (https://www.nomanssky.com/outlaws-update), (https://www.nomanssky.com/2022/05/expedition-seven-leviathan/), (https://www.nomanssky.com/endurance-update) and (https://www.nomanssky.com/waypoint-update), plus a bunch more of our popular expeditions, whilst also launching on Steam Deck and Switch. We’ve got an even bigger year planned for 2023, with Fractal marking just the starting point.

Full patch notes can be found (https://www.nomanssky.com/fractal-update).

Thanks again so much for your continued support. It means a lot to us.

Our journey continues.

Introducing...the Waypoint (4.0) Update

2022 has already been a pretty packed year for No Man’s Sky with major free updates like (https://www.nomanssky.com/sentinel-update), (https://www.nomanssky.com/outlaws-update), Leviathan and (https://www.nomanssky.com/endurance-update), plus a bunch more of our popular expeditions. We’ve also brought the game to SteamDeck, where it has become surprisingly popular, as well as announcing MacOS and (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8FPhdSfvFs).

We are on the cusp of releasing No Man’s Sky on (https://www.nomanssky.com/switch-update), and as if that wasn’t challenging enough we are also releasing a large update across all platforms… 4.0 update launches across PC, SteamDeck, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox and PC Game Pass, VR and... Nintendo Switch! I think we might now support more platforms than we have people at Hello. :)

We’re calling 4.0 (https://www.nomanssky.com/waypoint-update). It is our 21st major free update and it launches today. Waypoint brings an overhaul of design and balance, including inventories, milestones, cataloguing and game modes. It also introduces hundreds of community-favourite quality of life improvements, both macro and micro. Full patch notes can be found (https://www.nomanssky.com/waypoint-update).

Inventories have been overhauled, with ships, weapons and players having their level cap greatly increased. Survival, crafting, combat and controls can now all be customised to cater for travellers’ unique play styles.

Relaxed mode brings a new focus on sandbox exploration for travellers old and new. Meanwhile returning players are welcomed by a new information portal with a summary of their goals and progress.

For long-term players, a new milestone system, new collectibles and improved mission content brings new extended goals and challenge. With new streamlining and balance, Waypoint allows players to enjoy twenty major updates as a more cohesive whole.

This is hopefully the best time to be a No Man’s Sky player, whether you are a new explorer who benefits from our Relaxed Mode, a returning player who is welcomed back by a more cohesive gameplay experience, or a core player who is excited for the increased level cap and hundreds of quality of life improvements.

The leap from version 3.0 to 4.0 is perhaps our biggest generational jump so far. It’s an exciting moment, and marks a solid foundation for future updates.

Starting as we mean to continue, No Man’s Sky launches on Switch with its first major update, and it’s no coincidence that many of our changes are focused on making No Man’s Sky a more pick-up and play experience for new and returning players on that mobile platform (and this streamlined approach benefits all platforms).

The Nintendo Switch has been a real achievement for our small band of technical wizards and I’m so proud of their achievement. We are constantly striving to ensure that No Man’s Sky is the best it can possibly be whether you’re playing on the highest spec PC or in VR or now on the Nintendo Switch.

Full patch notes for Waypoint (4.0) are available (https://www.nomanssky.com/waypoint-update).

A celebratory Twitch Drops campaign runs from Thursday 13th October through Monday 17th, and a special anniversary hoodie is available in our merch store (https://freshstore.co/collections/hello-games?sort_by=manual).

More will follow…

Thank you so much, Sean

No Man's Sky Endurance Update

Hello!

It has already been an incredibly busy year for No Man’s Sky with the release of (https://www.nomanssky.com/sentinel-update), (https://www.nomanssky.com/2022/05/expedition-seven-leviathan/), (https://www.nomanssky.com/outlaws-update) and SteamDeck - and (https://www.nomanssky.com/switch-update), PSVR2, MacOS and more coming very soon!

Today, we are releasing what is probably our biggest update of the year (our 20th major free update). Perhaps fittingly we’re calling it (https://www.nomanssky.com/endurance-update), and the focus is on freighters, frigates and fleets. Full patch notes are available (https://www.nomanssky.com/endurance-update).

We introduced the ability to own and captain freighters in our very first update, (https://www.nomanssky.com/foundation-update), and it’s something we’ve been excited to take the opportunity to completely reinvent. Captaining a fleet to explore the unknown has always been core to that fantasy of science fiction, from Battlestar to Starfleet, and it’s a huge fan favorite.

ENDURANCE brings a complete overhaul of freighters and fleets, allowing players to live and work aboard their home in the stars, together with their own crew. A new bridge brings a range of quality of life improvements, with instant access to warping and teleportation. Players can now build vast freighter bases on a scale not seen before, with specially themed areas and new features for growing food and manufacturing, and new technology like the ability to scan and analyse planets from space.

One of the most striking changes is to asteroids, which are now more varied and appear in vast fields, with thousands on screen at once. There are new Interstellar-style black holes, nebulae, and space atmospherics to explore. Travellers can enjoy these new incredible space vistas from windows and portholes, which they can now build on their freighters. Players can also build exterior sections to their freighters, for increased flexibility, or just to admire the universe from.

There’s also a new expedition to enjoy, “Polestar”, focused on a capital ship voyage, as well as new combat-focused Nexus missions, and a new Twitch Drops campaign.

To celebrate ENDURANCE, we are releasing another set of woven expedition patches on the merch store.

We're also doing a limited re-run of Christopher C. Castillo's awesome playing cards such was their popularity last time.

And don't forget, No Man's Sky for Nintendo Switch launches on October 7th worldwide as a physical and digital edition. Pre-order now at all discerning game stores.

ENDURANCE coincides with No Man’s Sky’s 6 year anniversary and it remains amazing to us to see players still clocking up a bewildering number of hours in the game all these years later. We are eternally grateful for the support.

No Man's Sky Outlaws Update

Hello Folks!

We’re delighted to let you know our next update is called (https://www.nomanssky.com/outlaws-update) and it launches today. This is a particularly explosive update with the focus on the underworld of No Man’s Sky for the first time. We have overhauled Space Combat, introduced a new pirate underworld and added solar sail ships (the first new ship class in the game in over 2 years - since our LIVING SHIP update). You can also now hire your own squadron of wingmen, smuggle illegal goods, and protect your settlement from pirate ship raids.

Our last update ((https://www.nomanssky.com/sentinels-update)) focused on ground combat, broadening the risk, reward and fun for players exploring on planet. Similarly we were really delighted to put some love into Space Combat with this latest update ((https://www.nomanssky.com/outlaws-update)) and I know this is one the community has been really eager for.

Please check the patch notes (https://www.nomanssky.com/outlaws-update) for full details, but these are just a few of the additions which (https://www.nomanssky.com/outlaws-update) brings:

Outlaw Stations

Outlaws have taken over space stations all across the galaxy. Outlaw systems are dangerous, lawless places, with frequent conflict (but this all represents an opportunity for players with an eye for raiding passing starships…)

A new series of missions leads players towards pockets of rebellion, where they’ll find an underworld offering pirate missions, black-market technology, and a chance to acquire valuable goods illegal elsewhere in the galaxy. Like-minded players can even acquire a forged passport that will allow them by-pass the authorities.

Solar Starship

With unique solar-powered sail and sleek bodywork, this is the vessel of choice for those looking to speed between the stars. The Solar Ship is No Man’s Sky’s first new starship since the start of 2020. There is considerable variety across this range of ships, so look forward to scouring the galaxy for the perfect version to match your existing fleet. The maximum number of ships a player can own has been raised from six to nine, so you don’t have to worry about limiting your fleet either.

Smuggling

Illegal goods can be purchased in outlaw systems and be smuggled out for a significant profit. A smuggler’s life is dangerous. The Sentinels are on the lookout for contraband, and discovery is only a cargo probe away…

Cargo Inventories

All players - not just the smugglers - will benefit from the addition of specialist cargo inventories to all starships. These high-capacity slots can store large quantities of cargo, and storage-hungry players can unlock extra slots from the ship upgrade terminal found on all space stations.

Squadrons

Players can now recruit and upgrade their own wingmen. Collect your perfect set of ships and pilots. Each pilot comes with their own abilities, and can be upgraded over time to improve the combat ability.

Space Combat

Space combat has been overhauled for speed and excitement. Handling has been improved, weapons have new visual effects and enemy starships now have shields. Depth has also been added to weapon selection with a variety of specialist secondary effects, such as slowing enemy engines or disabling shield systems. Ship-to-ship combat can now occur within a planet’s atmosphere too - and pirates may raid your settlements. For those who find Space Combat difficult, flight accessibility has been significantly improved with a new Auto-Follow mode.

It’s so surprising for us, after six years to see No Man’s Sky still resonating with folks. It meant so much to the team to see our last update ((https://www.nomanssky.com/sentinel-update)) bring in so many new players and exceed expectations, and following that it blew our minds to win the “Evolving Game” category at the BAFTAs last week. All this and our Switch version is shaping up nicely in the background!

No Man's Sky Sentinel Update

Hello!

We are starting off 2022 as we mean to continue! We are pleased to announce that the first update of the year is available to download for free today. It’s called No Man’s Sky (https://www.nomanssky.com/sentinel-update). Full patch notes can be found (https://www.nomanssky.com/sentinel-update).

The Sentinel update brings an overhaul of the combat systems in game and enemies you meet, to create something much more challenging and exciting. No Man’s Sky is a game about exploration, but our universe has always been one filled with hazards and danger. Sentinels police the planets you explore, and have long been an element of the game we want to make more interesting, deep and fun - whilst also allowing players to defeat and overcome them in a more meaningful way.

Fortunately this update comes with a huge array of combat improvements and enhancements for the battle-scarred Traveller. You have access to new weapons, like the charged energy shotgun, active camo and the new stun grenade. Mechs can now be programmed to protect you in combat.

Sentinels have become more formidable too. They have devised new classes, like Heavies, Summoners, Medics and even an Exo-Mech. Sentinels also deploy new weaponry like the flamethrower and utilise protective shields. And for the brave, the locations of sentinel “nests” have been made known, adding generous rewards for raiding these infested hives.

With the Sentinel update, players will learn about the lore of how Sentinels came into being. Among the rewards for facing down new sentinel missions is the ability to re-program and adopt your very own friendly AI drone, as well as salvaging parts to create defenses of your own. There is also a new Expedition launching next week, with a tonne of new rewards.

This is a huge update, but here are just some of the additions:

Sentinel Hardframe Mech - Battle against a brand new robotic enemy - the huge, heavily armoured Hardframe mech. Equipped with lasers, terrain-destroying grenades, and a plasma-powered flamethrower, this fearsome new Sentinel launches itself across the battlefield with a high-powered jetpack.

**Total Visual Overhaul for Weapons **- All Multi-Tool systems, from the Mining Laser to the Scatter Blaster, have received a significant visual overhaul, benefiting from new projectiles and beams, muzzle flashes, lighting effects, refraction, new impacts and more!

Advanced Combat Upgrades - New upgrades add depth to combat, with the ability to add stun or incineration effects to your existing weapons, or to set up your Multi-Tool to deal extra damage to targets you've previously tagged. Or, take advantage of the new Cloaking Device to vanish mid-fight and gain the strategic upper hand.

AI Robotic Companions - Players can reassemble and reprogram their own friendly robotic drone companion, or go one step further and salvage Sentinel Hardframe parts to build their own autonomous AI-powered giant mechanical escort.

New Stories and Missions - Work with the crew of the Space Anomaly on a substantial new story-driven mission, or raid the sinister Sentinel Pillars to access their archives and probe the secrets of the Atlas and the World of Glass...

Combat Flow and Feel Improvements - A vast list of tweaks and refinements have been made to weapon feel and flow, making for a more dynamic and impactful combat experience.

**New Drone Enemies **- Regular Sentinel units have been overhauled, with heavy combat and shield drones, dedicated repair drones, and even advanced summoning units joining the existing patrol drones.

Last year saw the No Man’s Sky team releasing a tonne of updates (including (https://www.nomanssky.com/companions-update), (https://www.nomanssky.com/expeditions-update), (https://www.nomanssky.com/prisms-update), (https://www.nomanssky.com/frontiers-update)) and our first expeditions (like (https://www.nomanssky.com/2021/05/no-mans-sky-expedition-2/), (https://www.nomanssky.com/2021/10/no-mans-sky-expedition-4/), (https://www.nomanssky.com/expeditions-update/), (https://www.nomanssky.com/2021/09/no-mans-sky-expedition-3/)). I don’t doubt that 2022 will be just as productive for our small team.

We look forward to seeing our communities take on the reinforced might of the sentinels in this, the 18th No Man’s Sky update.

Our journey continues.
