🌟 Codename: DeepSeek Harness, One Command Away

🧰 28 PRs · 9 contributors · 2 days0.19.2 shortens the path from installing DeepSeek Harness to finishing work with it. One command can set up a compatible Harness toolchain, Windows paths with spaces no longer break the Open Design connection, and long streams stay responsive. This patch also adds offline-safe HTML export and the structured Design System 3.0 runtime.

🔥 Highlights
  • 🧰 Install DeepSeek Harness with one command. The new bootstrap scripts cover macOS, Linux, Windows PowerShell, and Windows CMD. They reuse compatible local tools or install an isolated user-scoped Node.js 24 toolchain with the pinned Harness release, then open dsh web for API key setup. Open Design now installs its connection component through a shell-safe profile path, including Windows application and DSH_HOME paths that contain spaces. (#6900, #6905)

  • 📦 Export HTML that keeps working after you move it. Downloaded HTML now bundles project-local images, styles, fonts, modules, workers, and nested documents into one offline-safe file. Missing or oversized dependencies return a clear error instead of a broken export. The same output is available through od export --format html. (#6855)

  • Long agent runs stay responsive. Thinking and text still stream into chat while Open Design batches persistence and React updates behind the scenes. Terminal transitions flush the last buffered output. od export also works with a project ID alone, so agents no longer need workspace or member flags for a project that already has a saved workspace binding. (#6915)

  • 🎨 Structured design systems now drive generation and validation. Design System 3.0 packages give agents an intent map, exact component implementations, tokens, and rules. Agents can resolve a component before generating, load only its declared files, then validate reuse, required states, token use, and fallback behavior. The same workflow is available through od tools design-systems. (#6805)

✨ Added
  • The DeepSeek Harness design guide now has a companion collection of 13 verified design plugins, grouped by vision, generative UI, workflow, and preview use cases, with localized detail pages and source-backed install commands. (#6864, #6897)
  • Packaged apps now search standard nix-darwin, NixOS, system, and user profile directories when discovering locally installed agent CLIs. (#6885)
🔁 Changed
  • The Home creation row puts the most common project types first, and the DeepSeek Pro and Flash campaign copy stays aligned across the product and localized landing pages through August 27. (#6852, #6863, #6876, #6892)
  • Landing-page production deploys now purge the active host after publishing and keep a short edge TTL for HTML, reducing the time visitors spend on stale pages after a release. (#6552)
🐛 Fixed
🧠 DeepSeek Harness and agents
  • Canceling a Harness run now settles once as canceled, terminates the profile process, preserves provider error details, and records the correct provider and model in diagnostics. Canceled turns no longer appear as Working, Done, or Run failed. (#6880)
  • Missing DeepSeek credentials now produce steps for dsh web, Settings → Models, and DEEPSEEK_API_KEY instead of [object Object]. (#6890)
  • Long structured event streams no longer leave chat busy after useful output has appeared, and project exports avoid repeated workspace-context failures. (#6915)
🖼️ Preview and workspace UI
  • Generated presentations recover when Chromium aborts an about:srcdoc navigation, powered previews work behind reverse proxies, and comment bridges wait for the committed preview URL before reporting ready. (#5592, #6797, #6882)
  • Mobile comment previews no longer flash during close, deck previews fill the viewer without letterboxing, and the move-to-team dialog covers the composer beneath it. (#6785, #6829, #6854)
  • Expanded Message Center rows show their configured HTTP(S) action again. Unsafe action URLs remain hidden. (#6894)
🖥️ Desktop and delivery
  • Sidecars accept the configured internal host allowlist, which keeps packaged deployments working behind approved internal hosts. (#6802)
  • Team pricing copy now matches the $5 per-seat catalog across landing-page surfaces. (#6834)
🙏 Thanks to everyone who shipped 0.19.2

How open-design-v0.19.2 went
open-design-v0.19.1

Open Design 0.19.1 — Design with DeepSeek Harness

Added 6
  • DeepSeek Harness now runs as an agent inside Open Design, discovering the official dsh installation, reading model and reasoning choices, and resuming the same Harness session on later turns
  • Open Design provides specific guidance for missing credentials, profile setup, or untested Harness version, with settings and od agent setup deepseek-harness to install or repair the connection profile
  • Paid plans receive two weeks of unlimited DeepSeek V4 Pro and Flash from August 13 at 20:00 to August 27 at 20:00 Asia/Shanghai
  • The design-system catalog now includes Cloudflare Kumo UI as a visual foundation for generated interfaces
  • od mcp install claude-desktop can configure Open Design for Claude Desktop on macOS and Windows
  • Headless operators gain od amr status and od amr logout commands for checking and resetting Cloud authentication from the CLI
Changed 6
  • New image and video outputs open in the preview when generation finishes, and when an agent names an existing artifact the write updates that file in place instead of creating a numbered duplicate
  • Message Center rows expand and collapse in place, and saving an annotation leaves the comments panel in the state you chose instead of forcing it open
  • Home search includes personal projects, and projects created from Community templates retain the template's original project type
  • MCP slash commands explain what they do, and newly created custom skills load their files without requiring a refresh
  • Campaign and upgrade prompts are limited to the AMR paths where they apply instead of appearing in unrelated local workflows
  • Home is refreshed with a clearer creation-type row and more direct workspace controls, and local projects no longer wait for a Cloud workspace identity before they can start
Fixed 8
  • Inviting someone who already belongs to the workspace now says exactly why the invite failed, and recovery links open the Settings section that actually contains the requested control
  • od project list and MCP resource reads honor the signed-in workspace instead of falling back to a personal or empty scope
  • Re-finalizing a personal design system keeps it bound to the project and reachable afterwards
  • Deleted projects leave the workspace project dropdown as soon as deletion succeeds and stay gone after reload
  • Repeated Enter presses and clicks no longer enqueue duplicate chat requests, and old daemon-restart recovery cards disappear after a later successful run
  • A recovered tool error can no longer turn an already successful run back into a failed one, and form answers are not duplicated on resume
  • Shared pipeline atom bodies are inserted once per active stage instead of being duplicated across the prompt
  • Team workspaces keep background work within bounds through batched shared-resource pulls, capped sync fan-out, cached workspace-authority reads, and firm limits on large project scans, archives, and push queues
🌟 Codename: Design with DeepSeek Harness

🧰 59 PRs · 24 contributors · 4 daysDeepSeek Harness now runs as an agent inside Open Design. Open Design finds your official dsh, guides setup of the Open Design connection profile, lists Harness models and reasoning options, and resumes the same Harness session on later turns. 0.19.1 also starts two weeks of unlimited DeepSeek V4 Pro and Flash for paid plans and keeps Home and team projects responsive under load.

🔥 Highlights
  • 🧰 Bring your official DeepSeek Harness installation into Open Design. Open Design discovers dsh, reads its model and reasoning choices, and gives specific guidance for missing credentials, profile setup, or an untested Harness version. Settings and od agent setup deepseek-harness can install or repair only the Open Design connection profile; Open Design does not replace or upgrade Harness itself. Runs stream thinking, text, tool calls, results, and usage as structured events, then resume the same Harness session on later turns. Cancellation and process cleanup also cover Windows .cmd installs. (#6874)

  • 🎁 Paid plans get two weeks of unlimited DeepSeek V4 Pro and Flash. From August 13 at 20:00 to August 27 at 20:00 (Asia/Shanghai), both models carry the Unlimited badge across the workbench, and the campaign action picks V4 Pro. Users who dismissed the previous Flash campaign still see this one once. When a rolling model window fills up, Open Design shows the retry time and confirms that the request was not charged. (#6861)

  • 🏠 Home gets you into a project sooner. The refreshed Home adds a clearer creation-type row and more direct workspace controls. Local projects no longer wait for a Cloud workspace identity before they can start, while Cloud projects keep their balance checks. After you submit, Open Design moves straight into the new project's Preparing state and rolls back cleanly if creation fails. (#6692, #6741, #6756)

  • 🔐 An expired Cloud session returns you to sign-in. Invalid credentials are cleared, the existing sign-in flow takes over, and transient workspace-authority failures retry without duplicating the request. Headless operators also gain od amr status and od amr logout for checking and resetting Cloud authentication from the CLI. (#6786)

  • Team workspaces keep background work within bounds. Shared-resource pulls are batched, sync fan-out is capped, workspace-authority reads are cached safely, and large project scans, archives, and push queues have firm limits. Workspace and billing refreshes now coalesce under event bursts and back off during an outage instead of multiplying upstream requests. (#6711, #6752, #6782, #6788, #6871)

✨ Added
  • The design-system catalog now includes Cloudflare Kumo UI, ready to use as a visual foundation for generated interfaces. (#6769)
  • od mcp install claude-desktop can configure Open Design for Claude Desktop on macOS and Windows. (#6489)
  • The public Pricing page now describes hosted image generation alongside text models. (#6395)
  • Launch Week is easier to discover from the landing page, and community links are labeled before they take you away from Open Design. (#6680, #6684)
🔁 Changed
  • New image and video outputs open in the preview when generation finishes. When an agent names an existing artifact, the write updates that file in place instead of creating a numbered duplicate. (#6688, #6719)
  • Message Center rows expand and collapse in place. Saving an annotation also leaves the comments panel in the state you chose instead of forcing it open. (#6851, #6862)
  • Home search includes personal projects, and projects created from Community templates retain the template's original project type. (#6838, #6847)
  • MCP slash commands explain what they do, and newly created custom skills load their files without requiring a refresh. (#6597, #6735)
  • Campaign and upgrade prompts are limited to the AMR paths where they apply, instead of appearing in unrelated local workflows. (#6760, #6841)
🐛 Fixed
🏠 Workspaces and projects
  • Inviting someone who already belongs to the workspace now says exactly why the invite failed, and recovery links open the Settings section that actually contains the requested control. (#6830, #6831)
  • od project list and MCP resource reads honor the signed-in workspace instead of falling back to a personal or empty scope. (#6736, #6773)
  • Re-finalizing a personal design system keeps it bound to the project and reachable afterwards. (#6776)
  • Deleted projects leave the workspace project dropdown as soon as deletion succeeds and stay gone after reload. (#6886)
🧠 Runs and agents
  • Repeated Enter presses and clicks no longer enqueue duplicate chat requests, and old daemon-restart recovery cards disappear after a later successful run. (#6748, #6749)
  • A recovered tool error can no longer turn an already successful run back into a failed one. Form answers are not duplicated on resume, and stale message writes cannot overwrite the daemon's canonical run events. (#6305, #6418, #6764)
  • Missing Vela installations report as unavailable, Azure alias authentication retries the compatible token parameter, and CodeBuddy model discovery handles the CLI's current help output. (#6617, #6718, #6738)
  • Shared pipeline atom bodies are inserted once per active stage instead of being duplicated across the prompt. (#6245)
🖥️ Desktop and delivery
  • Social share icons render in the packaged app, portable Windows installs write NSIS logs to the runtime path, and slower macOS cold starts get enough time for the sidecar to report healthy. (#6559, #6750, #6762)
  • Docker browser peers can authenticate, and the packaged runtime picks up patched dependency floors for known container vulnerabilities. (#6715, #6733)
  • Korean browser-assist UI and French fallback copy are complete again. (#6212, #6612)

How open-design-v0.19.1 went
open-design-v0.19.0

Open Design 0.19.0 — Image Generation, Unlocked

Added 3
  • MCP clients can supply several skills when starting a run; the daemon now forwards every selected skill ID
  • The Launch Week Vol.01 site publishes five daily drops across localized campaign pages with request-time reveal controls to keep unopened content out of the page source
  • Preview iframe failures now produce bounded diagnostic events for support visibility when an artifact cannot render
Changed 3
  • Qwen Code model choices now come from the user's own Qwen configuration, with built-in models retained as fallbacks
  • Long speaker notes scroll inside Presenter View instead of being clipped, and deck previews recover after returning to a project or loading in a hidden browser tab
  • Files from this turn counts unique files rather than counting repeated writes and edits to the same file
Fixed 12
  • An older retry generation can no longer close a newer generation, and stale successful Design runs stop reattaching on every reload
  • Workspace-dependent writes retry transient authority failures with bounded backoff, while account changes still invalidate old workspace context
  • Deleting a project clears its Design Browser history and viewport cache
  • New comment pins no longer reuse a retired pin number, and invite dialogs no longer close from an expired timer
  • Design systems created outside a workspace can be deleted again
  • Claude Enterprise authentication is recognized during runtime detection
🌟 Codename: Image Generation, Unlocked

🖼️ Bring ideas to life with your Open Design subscription—generate images directly with Seedream 5.0 Pro, GPT Image 2.0, and Nano Banana 2.0.

🔥 Highlights
  • 🎨 Three flagship image models, included with your subscription. Generate and edit images directly with Seedream 5.0 Pro, GPT Image 2.0, and Nano Banana 2.0 through Open Design Cloud. The agent can pass multiple reference images and explicit aspect ratio, resolution, and quality settings when the selected model publishes them. Requests are checked before generation starts, progress remains visible, output paths come from the daemon, and one transient post-tool interruption can recover without dropping the result. Video generation also runs through the same Vela integration. (#6500)

  • 📤 Export, Share, and Handoff are direct actions again. The artifact viewer no longer hides these flows behind one tabbed popover. Export leads as the file-delivery action; Share focuses on links and publishing; Handoff returns to its split button. HTML and React component viewers use the same structure, and an off-contract editor response no longer crashes the viewer. (#6654)

  • 🤝 Shared projects do less wasteful work and recover better. Team project sync now excludes generated trees consistently, bounds background pulls by manifest size, and retries failed publishes on a finite backoff. Transient workspace-context failures can recover without reusing state from a previous account, conversation forks preserve the right boundary, and MCP project operations attach to the signed-in workspace. (#6558, #6564, #6595, #6604, #6605, #6673)

✨ Added
  • MCP clients can supply several skills when starting a run; the daemon now forwards every selected skill ID. (#6429)
  • The Launch Week Vol.01 site publishes five daily drops across localized campaign pages. Request-time reveal controls keep unopened content out of the page source. (#6647)
  • Preview iframe failures now produce bounded diagnostic events, giving support a concrete signal when an artifact cannot render. (#6671)
🔁 Changed
  • Qwen Code model choices now come from the user's own Qwen configuration, with the built-in models retained as fallbacks. Keys stored beside those settings are not read. (#6546)
  • Long speaker notes scroll inside Presenter View instead of being clipped, and deck previews recover after returning to a project or loading in a hidden browser tab. (#6271, #6519)
  • "Files from this turn" counts unique files rather than counting repeated writes and edits to the same file. (#6420)
🐛 Fixed
🧠 Runs and project state
  • An older retry generation can no longer close a newer generation, and stale successful Design runs stop reattaching on every reload. (#6578, #6600)
  • Workspace-dependent writes retry transient authority failures with bounded backoff, while account changes still invalidate old workspace context. Workspace errors also retain more useful diagnostic codes. (#6604, #6666)
  • Deleting a project clears its Design Browser history and viewport cache. New comment pins no longer reuse a retired pin number, and invite dialogs no longer close from an expired timer. (#6354, #6517, #6580)
  • Design systems created outside a workspace can be deleted again. (#6591)
🔌 Agents and integrations
  • Claude Enterprise authentication is recognized during runtime detection. (#6652)
  • MCP project tools use the signed-in workspace instead of returning an empty project catalog after a workspace-scoped upgrade. (#6595)
  • The daemon serves the web app fallback from the configured static root, so direct navigation to application routes no longer fails. (#6614)
🖥️ Desktop and updates
  • Packaged launches refresh the persisted launcher path after an update. MCP clients no longer relaunch an old executable and trigger a desktop restart loop. (#6621)
  • The local od:// proxy stops retrying immediately when the machine runs out of sockets or file descriptors, instead of multiplying the failed requests. (#6530)
  • Windows uninstall removes only the protocol registration owned by that installation, and NSIS preserves the quoted protocol command across install and update paths. (#6694, #6699)
  • Diagnostic exports retain the previous daemon session log and keep JSONL event tails aligned to complete records. (#6531)

How open-design-v0.19.0 went
open-design-v0.18.1

Open Design 0.18.1 — DeepSeek V4 Flash, unlimited all week.

Added 3
  • DeepSeek V4 Flash unlimited access for one week (August 6–13) on every paid plan, with Unlimited badge in the model picker and display on the home screen
  • Signing in through the browser returns the desktop app to the front, including when minimized
  • Export execution diagnostics from runs for troubleshooting
Changed 1
  • Onboarding model-source step is now a single, streamlined choice instead of a detour before the first prompt
Fixed 9
  • Cloud outages no longer cause 502 loops by backing off the heartbeat, relaying actual server responses, and replaying requests that deserve a second chance
  • Design files with many files now render and load faster by rendering only visible grid items and fetching thumbnails on scroll
  • BYOK models are selectable again from the home and composer pickers, with providers offering only free-form deployment names showing the current model as a readout
  • Projects no longer open into the wrong scope when workspace bootstrap arrives late
  • Campaign badge displays above workspace tabs instead of behind them
  • Free personal accounts see the campaign prompt written for them instead of paid-user wording

🎁 24 PRs · 9 contributors · 2 daysDeepSeek V4 Flash is unlimited for one week, and 0.18.1 puts it where you actually work. August 6 20:00 → August 13 20:00 (Asia/Shanghai): every paid plan gets unlimited DeepSeek V4 Flash on Open Design Cloud — it doesn't eat your plan's quota, doesn't carry over, and there's nothing to claim. 0.18.1 also cleans up the first week of Team Workspace on production: the 502 storm, the file grid that crawled, the BYOK picker that forgot your models. 🚀

🔥 Highlights
  • 🎁 DeepSeek V4 Flash — unlimited, August 6–13. A fast model you have to spend quota on carefully is the one you reach for least. For one week, every paid plan gets DeepSeek V4 Flash unlimited on Open Design Cloud — and 0.18.1 brings the offer into the app instead of leaving it on the pricing page: the home screen tells you it's live, the model picker carries an Unlimited badge, and one click switches you over. It runs on top of your plan, not out of it — your normal quota is untouched, and on August 13 at 20:00 everything returns to standard rules. (#6507)

  • ☁️ A cloud blip stops taking the workspace down with it. The packaged app could get stuck in a 502 loop — a failing presence call retried on a tight heartbeat until the whole workspace felt broken. 0.18.1 backs the heartbeat off, relays what the server actually said instead of a generic failure, and replays proxied requests that deserve a second chance. A cloud outage now looks like a bad minute, not a broken install. (#6521)

  • Design files that open at speed. Projects with a lot of files made the grid render everything at once and fetch every thumbnail up front. Now the grid renders what you can see and fetches thumbnails as you scroll — big projects open in a fraction of the time. (#6513)

  • 🔑 Your own models, back in the picker. BYOK models had gone missing from the home and composer pickers — you'd configured a provider and still couldn't switch to it. Fixed: your provider's model catalogue is selectable again from both places — and providers that don't offer one, like Azure's free-form deployment names, still show the current model as a readout instead of an empty panel. (#6515)

  • 🚀 A shorter first run. Choosing where your models come from used to be a detour before your first prompt. The onboarding model-source step is now a single, streamlined choice. (#6475) Thanks @Siri-Ray.

✨ Added
  • Signing in hands you back to the app. Approve a sign-in in your browser and the desktop app comes back to the front on its own — including when it was minimized, which previously left it sitting in the Dock looking like nothing happened. (#6410) Thanks @elifive555555.

  • Export what a run actually did. When a run goes sideways, you can now export its execution diagnostics instead of describing the symptom from memory. (#6433) Thanks @bone3deep1962-collab.

🐛 Fixed
🏠 Workspace & projects
  • Projects no longer open into the wrong scope. When workspace bootstrap arrived late, a project could settle against the wrong workspace and stay stuck loading — leaving the whole workspace read-only until you refreshed. It now waits for the answer. (#6504)

  • The campaign badge sits above the workspace tabs, not behind them, and free personal accounts see the prompt written for them instead of the paid-user wording. (#6507)

🔌 Integrations & plugins
  • Briefs stop bleeding between publications. Confirmed brief context is cleared after publication, so the next brief starts clean. (#6442) Thanks @itscheems.

  • The Codex plugin page installs what it says it installs. Corrected the plugin page and simplified the install entry point. (#6393, #6474) Thanks @xne998808-ai, @joeylee12629-star.

🌍 Localization
  • "New project folder" speaks your language. (#5977) Thanks @mturac.

  • App provides explanation when AMR run genuinely stalls instead of failing silently
  • Users can skip required agent questions and continue run instead of being blocked
  • In-app browser preview now remembers viewport selection across sessions
  • Deleted projects no longer persist in saved tab layouts
  • Azure deployment names are editable for BYOK users
  • External MCP hosts maintain Open Design connection across restarts without re-setup
🌟 Codename: Design Team Workspace. Now in Codex.

🤝 115 PRs · 22 contributors · 2 days — Open Design 0.18.0 introduces Team Workspace—a shared home where design teams can share projects, review updates, comment in context, and reuse the same design systems, plugins, and skills. With the new Open Design plugin for Codex, that collaborative workspace now extends directly into Codex. 🚀

🔥 Highlights
  • 🤝 Team workspaces — your team gets a home. Collaboration used to mean leaving Open Design: export the file, paste the screenshot, chase the latest copy. Now a Team workspace lives right next to your personal one. Create it, switch into it, and invite colleagues with a role through a seat-aware invite flow — everyone lands in the same place, signed in through one Open Design Cloud account. (#6142, #6459)

  • 🚀 Open Design for Codex — in case you missed 0.17.0. The last release lived for exactly two days, so its headline rides again: Codex Desktop and CLI can call Open Design as a complete creative engine. Confirm a visual brief, choose Open Design Cloud or a supported local runtime, and receive a real Preview or Studio result. The signed Open Design runtime starts headlessly when needed, so there is no second app to keep open and no stack to wire together by hand. Upgrading from 0.16.x? This one is new to you too. (#6055, #6273, #6362 — shipped in 0.17.0)

  • 🔌 And Codex doesn't lose Open Design anymore. External MCP hosts — Codex and friends — used to go dark if Open Design's local service came back on a different port after a restart. The connection now finds its way home on its own, so @open-design keeps working across restarts without re-setup. (#6391)

  • 📁 Shared projects that stay current on their own. Move a project into the team space and every member gets a live read-only mirror: content auto-pulls as the owner works, presence avatars show who's looking, transfer progress is visible, and comments flow both ways — including from viewers in read-only mode. Nobody re-sends anything, and "is this the latest?" stops being a question. (#5281, #5283, #5395, #6294)

  • 🧰 Share the toolkit, not just the files. Design systems, plugins, and skills can now be shared to the team, so the house style and the house tricks travel together — a teammate picks up the same brand kit and the same workflows without a setup call. (#5242, #5250, #5551) Thanks @PerishCode.

  • 💳 Billing that follows the workspace. Balances, top-ups, and run charges are attributed to the active workspace instead of your personal account — team work bills the team, personal work stays personal, and the plan nameplate always tells you which pocket you're spending from. (#6067, #6182, #6219)

  • 🎨 A home worth coming home to. The workspace redesign lands across the home hero, rail, tabs, and template/plugin detail surfaces — joined by a message center, a What's-new panel fed by real release data, and a quieter, restyled update reminder. (#6156, #6162, #6281) Thanks @wangchenglong0001.

  • 🏁 Agents finish what they start. Sessions that stalled right after a tool call now pick themselves back up, Kiro runs complete their turns cleanly instead of hanging at the finish line, and when an AMR run genuinely stalls, the app can finally tell you why instead of shrugging. (#6237, #6268, #6040) Thanks @Siri-Ray.

  • 🙋 A required question is no longer a locked door. When the agent asks something you can't or don't want to answer, skip it and keep moving — the agent works with what it has instead of holding your run hostage. (#6177)

  • 🕵️ Clone Audit — know a clone is safe before you ship it. The new community plugin inspects a cloned site the way a reviewer would: visual fidelity, leftover tracking scripts, source-brand and language residue, placeholders, and risky external dependencies — then hands you an evidence-based report with file-and-line receipts and a clear deployment verdict. (#5687) Thanks @bestthanapon.

🏠 Home, projects & landing
  • The plugin catalog has a front door. A dedicated landing page introduces Open Design plugins to newcomers before they ever install the app. (#6241) Thanks @joeylee12629-star.

  • The Codex agent page now answers the question people actually ask. Sharper positioning and content for anyone searching for a Codex UI. (#6200) Thanks @joeylee12629-star.

🔁 Changed
  • Open Design ships light-first. The new workspace surfaces are tuned for the light appearance, so the theme setting is retired for now and every install returns to light. (#6168)
🐛 Fixed
🎨 Studio & interface
  • The in-app browser preview remembers your viewport. Pick a device size once and it stays picked, instead of resetting between sessions. (#4899) Thanks @HD-L.

  • Deleted projects no longer haunt your tabs. Removing a project also clears its saved tab layout, so stale workspace state stops resurfacing. (#5761) Thanks @EthanGuo-coder.

  • Azure deployment names are editable again. BYOK users on Azure can correct a deployment name without fighting the form. (#6034) Thanks @mturac.

☁️ Cloud & reliability
  • Billing checks back off instead of hammering. When the Cloud billing endpoint is unreachable, the app now retries politely on a backoff curve rather than flooding a failing connection. (#6446)

How open-design-v0.18.0 went
open-design-v0.17.0

Open Design 0.17.0

Added 14
  • Open Design is now available as a plugin for Codex, callable via @open-design to generate editable design artifacts directly in the Codex workflow
  • Direct canvas editing capabilities including element selection, movement, resizing, text editing, color and alignment changes, duplication, deletion, and image manipulation
  • Open Design no longer requires an interview-style prompt flow; the agent begins work immediately when the request contains sufficient direction
  • Settings now allow users to clear broken update cache, reinstall known unsafe versions, and enable automatic rollback to the last working version on payload crashes
  • Model and CLI combination validation prevents incompatible configurations from launching, with unsupported models redirected to a model-switch path
  • Codex Design collection now includes 50 curated and installable design skills across interface design, visual systems, Figma-to-code, motion, and image generation
Changed 3
  • BYOK provider configuration now remains local in browser storage and is passed only to the active local run, without migrating credentials to OS profile
  • Chat execution disclosures are more concise, empty tool rows are hidden, and real ACP tool activity is represented more faithfully
  • Workspace tabs now display full labels for long names with consistent Design System naming across the workspace
Fixed 3
  • Runtime-rendered elements maintain selection after clearing their final style without dropping selection or reloading canvas
  • Opening the same project repeatedly no longer creates duplicate workspace tabs
  • Derived themes now preserve dark-first visual direction instead of silently converting to light themes

Open Design 0.17.0 — Open Design Plugin for Codex

🚀 62 PRs · 23 contributors · 11 daysCodex now has its own design workspace. Call @open-design from a Codex conversation to turn ideas and briefs into real, editable design artifacts—then keep creating and refining them in Open Design Studio without leaving the Codex workflow. 🚀

🔥 Highlights
  • 🚀 Open Design for Codex—from @open-design to a real artifact. Codex Desktop and CLI can now call Open Design as a complete creative engine. Confirm a visual brief, choose Open Design Cloud or a supported local runtime, and receive a real Preview or Studio result. The signed Open Design runtime starts headlessly when needed, so there is no second app to keep open and no stack to wire together by hand. If Studio cannot load cleanly in an external host, Codex still delivers the stable preview immediately. (#6055, #6273, #6362)

  • Finish with your hands, not another prompt. Small visual corrections used to send you back into the chat loop. Now select an element directly, move or resize it, edit text, change color and alignment, duplicate or delete it, and replace, crop, paste, or drop images. Undo and redo preserve the canvas instead of flashing through a reload. (#5890, #6098) Thanks @pftom.

  • Clear briefs start immediately. Open Design no longer turns every first prompt into an interview. When the request already contains enough direction, the agent gets to work; when a decision would materially change the result, it asks one focused question at the moment it matters. (#6223)

  • 🧰 A stuck update is no longer a dead end. Clear a broken update cache yourself from Settings, reinstall when an installed generation is known to be unsafe, and recover automatically when a downloaded payload crashes. The app rolls back to the last working version and heals on the next healthy update. (#6032, #6101) Thanks @PerishCode.

  • 🎯 Bad model choices fail before they waste a run. Known-incompatible Codex model and CLI combinations are caught before launch, unsupported models produce a useful “switch model” path, and post-tool timeouts are diagnosed more accurately instead of triggering misleading retries. (#6036, #6103) Thanks @Siri-Ray.

  • 🧩 Fifty ways to give Codex real design taste. The public Codex Design collection now brings together 50 curated, installable skills across interface design, visual systems, Figma-to-code, motion, image generation, and frontend craft—with provenance, practical guidance, and localized detail pages. (#5978) Thanks @joeylee12629-star.

  • 🎞️ Codex Slides joins the Open Design family. Explore the complete prompt-to-deck workflow, scenario and style selection, outline shaping, editing, and export through the new Codex Slides product experience. (#6050) Thanks @joeylee12629-star.

✨ Added
🎨 Studio, editing & canvas
  • Edit the canvas at the speed of thought. Lightweight selection controls, an inline text toolbar, live alignment guides, direct image manipulation, and reliable history turn Manual Edit into a complete finishing workflow. (#5890) Thanks @pftom.

  • Exports now follow the preview you composed. Image exports respect the active preview viewport, and framework decks are captured at their authored size instead of being reshaped by the desktop frame. (#5828, #5853) Thanks @mturac.

🧠 Agents, models & integrations
  • GPT-5.5 Fast is ready when speed matters. The new service tier is available as an explicit model choice. (#4287) Thanks @jaehanbyun.

  • Raven joins one-click MCP setup. Open Design can generate the correct Raven configuration without making users translate another client's format. (#5969) Thanks @roian6.

  • Grok Build is easier to find on Windows. Open Design now discovers the official user installation automatically. (#5843) Thanks @thebtf.

🧩 Plugins & creative workflows
  • Humanize PPT turns rough material into a presentation people want to watch. The new workflow brings structured briefs, visual routing, presenter intent, material QA, and export verification into one plugin. (#5655) Thanks @LearnPrompt.

  • Atelier Zero brings a production-ready image prompt library. Start from a curated prompt system instead of rebuilding art direction from scratch for every generation. (#5873) Thanks @Nissimmiracles.

🔁 Changed
  • BYOK stays local and usable. Provider configuration remains in this device's Open Design browser storage and is passed only to the active local run. Startup no longer attempts to migrate credentials into an OS profile, while Open Design Cloud and Local Codex keep their existing behavior. (#6356)

  • Chat shows the work without reading like a terminal. Execution disclosures are quieter, empty tool rows stay hidden, and real ACP tool activity is represented more faithfully. (#5667, #4621, #6057) Thanks @mrcfps, @thatditsyboy.

  • Workspace tabs say what they contain. Long labels remain visible and Design System naming is consistent across the workspace. (#5129) Thanks @BigBandaid2.

🐛 Fixed
🎨 Studio & interface
  • Runtime-rendered elements stay selected after their last style is cleared. Resetting alignment or another final override no longer drops the selection or reloads the canvas. (#6098) Thanks @pftom.

  • Opening the same project repeatedly no longer multiplies workspace tabs. (#5993) Thanks @pcherkashin.

  • Dark-first brands stay dark-first. Derived themes preserve the intended canvas instead of silently turning a dark visual direction into a light one. (#5502) Thanks @wiggdevin.

  • Continuing an interrupted task clears its stale progress card. A finished follow-up no longer leaves an obsolete Todo snapshot pinned above Chat. (#6307) Thanks @Siri-Ray.

🧠 Agents & reliability
  • AMR sign-in recovers from late failures. If direct authentication exits before activation, Open Design makes one bounded fallback attempt instead of leaving users on a spinner. Slow, completed, and canceled sign-ins never start a duplicate login. (#5986) Thanks @Siri-Ray.

  • The packaged app recovers when its web surface exits. Open Design restarts the failed sidecar under a bounded policy and reconnects od:// requests without requiring a full app relaunch. (#6364) Thanks @lefarcen.

  • Plugin-started Local Codex runs stay local. They no longer re-enter the plugin recursively or switch into a Cloud login flow after the user explicitly chose Local Codex. (#6273)

  • ACP agents leave a complete trail. Real tool names, inputs, results, timing, and usage survive into Chat and diagnostics instead of collapsing into synthetic write events. (#6057) Thanks @mrcfps.

  • Packaged runtimes start more reliably across platforms. Linux payloads warm up before first use, and packaged wrappers consistently use the bundled runtime they shipped with. (#5836, #5786) Thanks @arseniy-gl, @mturac.

Open Design 0.16.0 — Reliable Delivery

🎨 92 PRs · 20 contributors · 5 daysA more reliable path from creation to delivery. Open Design 0.16.0 strengthens automatic updates, long-running tasks, model setup, image generation, previews, and exports—so interruptions are less likely to get between you and your latest work.

🔥 Highlights
  • 🎨 Visual direction now follows the thing you are actually making. Style choices are no longer limited to decks and prototypes. Documents, posters and other images, videos, Web Clones, wireframes, mobile work, and Hyperframes each get previews suited to their format—with four quick choices inline and the full library one click away. (#5746)

  • 🔔 Product news now has a home inside Open Design. A new bell in the Home and project headers opens a message center with unread counts, filters, mark-all-read, and links to relevant content. Read state stays on the device for anonymous use or follows a signed-in account. Dates use your locale, and the close button is always easy to find. (#5920, #5954, #5959, #5968) Thanks @nettee.

  • 🔄 Automatic updates now cover more of the app. After upgrading, the new version takes effect more reliably and features affected by an incomplete update—including PPTX export—work again. On macOS, “Check for Updates…” now clearly shows whether the app is current, downloading, ready to restart, waiting for active work to finish, or needs a manual download. Update reliability also improves on Windows. (#5789, #5766, #5678, #5915, #5940, #5955, #5967) Thanks @PerishCode.

  • 🔑 BYOK catches setup problems before they interrupt a task. Incomplete edits stay as recoverable drafts instead of replacing a working configuration. Connection tests now behave more like real tasks, show service errors more clearly, preserve each provider’s model ordering, and handle compatible MiniMax, DeepSeek, and MiMo addresses more consistently. (#5745, #5712, #5713, #5774, #5807) Thanks @Siri-Ray, @mturac.

  • 🧠 Long tasks keep their answer—and the files that came with it. Work approaching a conversation limit can continue with the newest useful context instead of failing abruptly. Earlier generated files stay attached, recovered helper agents no longer turn successful work into a failure, interrupted tasks show an accurate state after restart, and unrecoverable errors stop with a useful explanation. (#5816, #5850, #5845, #5817, #5882) Thanks @Siri-Ray, @tomsen02.

  • 🖼️ Image generation is more resilient to brief service interruptions. Nano Banana and custom image generation retry once when a provider is temporarily busy, while GPT Image reference edits work across more compatible services. A short interruption becomes a brief wait instead of a lost creative turn. (#5702, #5760) Thanks @Siri-Ray, @xxiaoxiong.

  • 🧩 Start from what people actually use. Slides, image, video, and other non-prototype galleries now lead with templates that have earned real usage, while blank entries and cards without previews stop crowding the top. Prototype keeps its editorial showcase, and every category keeps its full catalog. (#5106, #5881) Thanks @ScarletttMoon.

  • 🧬 Design systems import more faithfully from real repositories. Repository imports now choose the right flow, split token packages keep their layout values, and common YAML list and multiline formats preserve the metadata their authors wrote. (#5779, #5797, #5499) Thanks @mturac, @MuduiClaw, @EthanGuo-coder.

  • 🪟 Previews spend less time making you fight the frame. Wide desktop pages fit the pane until you choose your own zoom, older decks respond to navigation keys immediately, and the latest main HTML file appears as soon as a task finishes. When an asset is blocked for safety, the preview identifies the relevant project file without exposing a sensitive system path. (#5751, #5755, #5577, #5784) Thanks @lefarcen, @maxmilian, @mturac.

  • 🛡️ Local work now has stronger safety boundaries. Imported projects keep hidden credentials private, removing a plugin stays within that plugin’s files, marketplace and saved-site content are handled more safely, and each conversation stays attached to the correct project. (#5857, #5855, #5880, #5503, #5813) Thanks @tomsen02, @wiggdevin.

✨ Added
🚀 Deployment and integrations
  • Preview before you publish. Cloudflare Pages deployment now exposes Preview and Production as explicit targets in both the interface and od deploy --target … --json. Preview returns its own URL without replacing the live production hostname. (#4576) Thanks @cbeaulieu-gt.

  • Kiro joins the MCP setup picker. Copy the correct shared-server snippet from Settings and move it into Kiro’s configuration without translating another client’s format by hand. (#5275) Thanks @BusanGukbap.

🔁 Changed
🔑 Models, media, and memory
  • The model list follows the provider, not the alphabet. The provider’s original ordering is preserved, outdated Moonshot and DeepSeek defaults move to currently available models, and Settings and onboarding now show the same choices. (#5774) Thanks @Siri-Ray.

  • Memory can use the MiniMax key you already saved. A compatible saved key is no longer reported as missing. If a provider only supports image or audio, Memory now explains that it is unsupported and shows useful next steps. (#5767) Thanks @lefarcen.

  • Provider mode changes are reflected immediately. Switching to BYOK updates the composer icon at once, and a cleared custom model in Local CLI mode now stays cleared. (#5379, #5749) Thanks @yashrao2607, @jzhishu.

🐛 Fixed
🧠 Agents and runs
  • MCP follow-ups now receive the latest message. Reusing a conversation continues with the new request instead of finishing without doing any new work. (#5851) Thanks @mturac.

  • Restarting or canceling work now leaves a more accurate result. Tasks can still finish when saving their session hits a problem, canceled work stays canceled, and interrupted messages no longer remain stuck as queued or running after the app returns. (#5808, #5904, #5817) Thanks @mturac, @Siri-Ray.

  • ACP histories no longer grow blank rows after refresh. Empty status entries are removed while real tool activity remains available. (#5145) Thanks @xxiaoxiong.

  • Windows devices with older processors can run OpenCode again. Compatible builds now arrive through the normal update path instead of repeatedly crashing on launch. (#5733) Thanks @lefarcen.

🖼️ Preview and interface
  • Small visual signals tell the truth again. Browser-extraction failures keep a visible red surface, the model picker stays on screen, and the Open Design Website Clone example loads its real logo with the first screen. (#5454, #5907, #5765) Thanks @xxiaoxiong, @lefarcen.

  • Remove known auto-extraction artifacts from memories during upgrade without touching legitimate memories
  • Improve silent-update settings, status copy, and update-ready prompts to clarify when a new version is available
Fixed 8
  • Make successful analysis of existing work complete normally instead of showing ARTIFACT_NOT_FOUND failure
  • Automatically open plan-mode HTML after generation, keep in-place edits with delivery history, refresh large previews with full source, prevent redirect loops in preview, and preserve visual covers for HTML projects
  • Make delivery status clearer, keep cross-project file links inside the app, and display deployment success messages above the triggering modal
  • Include every slide in multi-page PPT/PDF exports, avoid overlapping text in slide-image and PDF output, keep CJK typefaces in editable PPTX, and preserve rendered thumbnails
  • Sync page counters with keyboard navigation, use safer sandbox for speaker-note presentations, and maintain visual discipline for dark-theme Mermaid diagrams
  • Allow AMR to retry transient runtime closures and OpenDesign Agent to clear stale sessions and continue on resume EOF failures
  • Stop permission prompts from blocking supported BYOK runs and prevent provider 'Not Found' responses from retrying as transient stream failure
  • Correct Pi model discovery output, keep lock affordances visible for long model names, accept call-prefixed Codex images, and allow od media generate to accept prompt files as documented

Open Design 0.15.1 — Sharper Vision, Longer Flow

Open Design 0.15.1 brings a comprehensive upgrade to the built-in OpenDesign Agent. Multimodal models can read finer image details, while leaner context handling helps responses stay faster and more focused on the work that matters.

⚡ Core runtime upgrade
  • Images arrive with more of their detail intact. The newer OpenDesign Agent improves how multimodal models receive and understand image content, making screenshot analysis, visual critique, and image-led design tasks more dependable.

  • Longer agent sessions stay coherent and recover more gracefully. The OpenDesign Agent upgrade improves session replay, stream and context-overflow recovery, and preservation of useful context through compaction—so extended work is less likely to lose its place or end prematurely.

✨ Added
🎨 Studio and discovery
  • Clarifying questions now stay inside the conversation. Deck and prototype direction questions use visual choices you can compare, refresh, and expand without leaving the chat; submitted answers—including multi-select responses—collapse into a readable brief. (#5496, #5757)

  • Home makes the collaboration model explicit. The new headline invites you to design with your agent, with matching copy across supported languages. (#5699)

🧠 Agents, models, and search
  • More ways to bring the right model and research into a project. Open Design adds AtomCode as an agent runtime, a SiliconFlow Global BYOK preset, and parallel web search for AMR. (#5654, #5108, #5552)
🔁 Changed
⚡ Faster, cleaner conversations
  • Multi-turn work reuses more of what it already knows. Intent signals now follow what you actually said instead of text offered by a discovery form, reducing unnecessary stable-prompt resends on resume-capable agents. (#5709)

  • Memory starts cleaner and stays under your control. “Learn from chats” now defaults off, while existing memories, work-profile details, manual entries, and connector imports remain available. Upgrading also removes known auto-extraction artifacts without touching legitimate memories. (#5708)

  • Updates are easier to understand. Silent-update settings, status copy, and update-ready prompts now make it clearer when a new version is available and what happens next. (#5608, #5609, #5631)

🖼 HTML, previews, and delivery
  • Successful analysis no longer looks like a failed design task. When you ask Open Design to inspect, critique, or explain existing work, a useful text answer completes normally instead of showing an ARTIFACT_NOT_FOUND failure. Runs that attempted but failed to deliver files still surface the real error. (#5724)

  • HTML work reaches the screen more reliably. Plan-mode HTML opens automatically after generation, in-place edits keep their delivery history, large previews refresh with the full source when needed, redirect loops no longer freeze the preview, and HTML projects keep their visual covers. (#5602, #5689, #5710, #5469, #5762)

  • Preview and deploy feedback stays visible. Delivery status is clearer, cross-project file links stay inside the app, and deployment success messages appear above the modal that triggered them. (#5557, #5611, #5455, #5696)

🎞 Decks and export
  • Deck exports now match what you reviewed. Multi-page PPT/PDF exports include every slide, slide-image and PDF output avoids overlapping text, editable PPTX keeps CJK typefaces, and rendered thumbnails no longer disappear. (#5645, #5628, #5644, #5626)

  • Presentation details stay in sync. Page counters follow keyboard navigation, speaker-note presentations use a safer sandbox, and dark-theme Mermaid diagrams keep the intended visual discipline. (#5594, #5571, #5595)

🤖 Agents and BYOK
  • Agent interruptions recover instead of ending the job. AMR retries transient runtime closures, and OpenDesign Agent resume EOF failures clear stale sessions and continue through the existing recovery path. (#5564, #5744)

  • BYOK Agent failures are more accurate and less disruptive. Permission prompts no longer block supported BYOK runs, while provider “Not Found” responses stop cleanly instead of retrying as a transient stream failure. (#5701, #5726)

  • Model and media integrations return the expected result. Pi model discovery reads the correct output, long model names keep their lock affordances visible, call-prefixed Codex images are accepted, and od media generate accepts prompt files as documented. (#5637, #5533, #5582, #5534)

🛟 Desktop and data reliability
  • Packaged startup and updates are more dependable. The bundled database binary is aligned with the packaged runtime, relaunch can stop an older incompatible desktop process, and updater cleanup waits instead of fighting a launcher file that is still locked. (#5680, #5677, #5780)

  • Concurrent and external inputs fail safely. Simultaneous imports of the same library item are deduplicated instead of returning a server error, and remote library ingestion blocks unsafe local-network targets. (#5662, #5529)

  • Small interface regressions stay out of the way. Home layers, browser guidance, question-form text, route scrolling, model controls, branding, fullscreen settings, and Community browsing now behave consistently; the gallery opens on all content types by default. (#5590, #5596, #5423, #5493, #5607, #5533, #5613, #5550, #5597, #5759)

Open Design 0.15.0 — Cost Less. Ship Faster. OD’s DeepSeek Moment

Open Design 0.15.0 optimizes the Design System Prompt to make everyday design tasks faster and more efficient. In representative evaluation runs, time to first token was 49.5% shorter, end-to-end duration was 21.2% shorter, and average input-token use was 25.1% lower. The broader creative workflow is smoother too—from building and presenting decks, to cloning public websites from a URL, to understanding and recovering from failed tasks.

✨ New
🎞 Decks, Presentations, and Export
  • Decks now feel like a workspace, not just a static preview. Multi-page decks support thumbnail navigation, direct page selection, and keyboard navigation with the arrow, Home, and End keys—so you no longer have to hunt for controls.

  • Speaker notes stay with the slide they belong to. Read and edit notes alongside the current slide, save them in place, and view them in Presenter View without covering the audience-facing presentation.

  • Present the way the moment calls for. Enter an immersive presentation in the current tab or in full screen, then move backward or forward, pause, resume, or restart without losing deck state.

  • Export the exact version you approved. Download a specific file version as PDF, images, ZIP, or HTML without silently exporting the latest edits. Speaker notes are excluded from exported slides.

🌐 Website Clone
  • Start cloning a website with a URL, not a blank prompt. Website Clone is now a first-class entry point on Home and in the Library: choose the capability, paste a public URL, and Open Design creates the project with the right context.

  • The cloning process leaves an audit trail. The workflow first inspects page structure, routes, assets, and interactions. The generated project retains NOTES.md-style documentation describing its approach, asset sources, and known differences.

  • Results are both more useful and more responsible. Generated sites are ready for local preview and do not carry over third-party analytics or advertising scripts. For complex targets such as login-walled sites, Open Design explains the limitations instead of pretending the clone is complete.

💬 Motion and Examples
  • Turn conversations into motion. The new Chat Motion Overlay skill converts two-person conversations into animated chat overlays, with WeChat-, Telegram-, and Messenger-style containers plus transparent-output options for post-production.

  • Find the right starting point faster from Home. Website Clone now has a clearer entry point, ready-to-use examples, and prompts that begin with the target URL. Template and plugin cards also open the correct preview more reliably, so you can decide whether to use or remix them.

🔁 Changed
🧠 Tasks, Models, and Integrations
  • A leaner Design System Prompt makes tasks respond faster. By optimizing the Design System Prompt, representative evaluation runs showed a 49.5% reduction in time to first token, a 21.2% reduction in end-to-end duration, and 25.1% lower average input-token use. Everyday design tasks now respond faster, use fewer tokens, and can be completed more efficiently.

  • Failures now explain what happened and what to do next. Missing local agents, oversized inputs, unavailable models or services, exhausted quotas, timeouts, empty output, save failures, and tool loops now provide more specific recovery paths.

  • A completed task now means there is a real deliverable. Runs that fail to generate or save usable project files are no longer shown as successfully completed.

  • BYOK and third-party agent configuration is more accurate. This release adds an Atlas Cloud preset; routes OpenAI-compatible endpoints through the compatible chat-completions path; keeps embedding and rerank models out of the chat model selector; and provides clearer configuration and runtime feedback for Kiro, Reasonix, Antigravity, Grok Build, and OpenRouter.

  • Privacy choices are easier to understand. Consent and settings screens now distinguish anonymous runtime metrics from redacted quality-review content more clearly, while analytics retain more useful provider and entry-point attribution.

🐛 Fixed
🛟 Recovery and Lifecycle
  • Stopping work now stops the work behind it. Deleting a conversation or project, or stopping a long-running task, cancels the corresponding run and child processes instead of allowing them to continue consuming time or quota.

  • Retries and sessions now keep their proper boundaries. Retries no longer inherit state from failed processes; expired native sessions reset truthfully; and the completion of a child agent no longer causes its parent task to appear finished too early.

  • The desktop app now has a recovery path when the renderer fails. Repeated renderer crashes open a recovery screen instead of triggering an endless reload loop, with an option to export diagnostic logs. Startup wait handling, download and save flows, and CLI cache scenarios are more reliable on Windows as well.

🎨 Design Systems, Templates, and Localization
  • Design system projects preserve more of your work. Regeneration no longer discards user files, renamed workspace projects retain their names, Swift palette parsing is more reliable, and missing preview assets no longer leave the page at a dead end.

  • The Library looks more like it should. Plugin category counts and translations are more reliable, baked previews are less likely to mismatch their templates, deck previews keep the correct aspect ratio, and WebGL previews behave better when resized.

  • The interface is more complete across languages. Russian, Thai, Traditional Chinese, and other localized paths now cover more updated copy, reducing the chance of internal labels leaking into localized interfaces.

🔒 Safer Boundaries
  • External input now fails safely. Brand extraction rejects unsafe local-network targets; corrupted asset streams and proxy interruptions no longer bring down the daemon; and design system parsing is more resilient to malformed input.

✨ Added
🏠 Home & onboarding
  • See what changed without leaving Home. After an update, a one-time “What’s New” card brings the latest release highlights into the app instead of making you hunt for release notes. (#5071)

  • New users get a clearer first step. Home now recommends a starting point based on the first-run questionnaire, carries it into Studio as an editable prompt, and guides the first artifact from generation to preview and delivery. (#5111, #5160)

🎨 Studio, previews & design systems
  • WebGL work finally looks alive in Preview. Powered previews unlock Web Workers, WASM, SharedArrayBuffer, and richer GPU experiences inside HTML artifacts, with ten new WebGL examples ready to explore. (#5266, #5312) Thanks @pftom, @XingliGe.

  • Tom Modern joins the bundled design systems. A sharp editorial system with neutral surfaces, vermillion accents, technical typography, and ready-made components gives generated work another distinct visual direction. (#4918) Thanks @Tom-Opencart.

🔑 Models, media & agents
  • MiniMax Image-01 is now available for image generation. Create from text or use an existing image as a subject reference through the MiniMax provider. (#4563) Thanks @ryanoolala.

  • Kiro can join the MCP workflow. Kiro users can now install and connect through Open Design’s MCP setup. (#5118) Thanks @YOMXXX.

🔁 Changed
  • Model picking reveals more of the trade-off before you run. Cost and quality metadata now appear directly in model badges, while unavailable or tier-restricted choices are gated more clearly instead of failing after selection. (#5216, #5335, #5407) Thanks @Mason6660201, @mrcfps.

  • Low balances interrupt you later—and explain the next step better. Cloud runs are checked before they start so prompts are not lost, while the low-balance reminder appears less aggressively and offers clearer sign-in, recharge, and continue actions. (#5103, #5349)

  • Updates take the safe route when an in-place upgrade is no longer enough. Open Design can send users to the full installer when a future release requires capabilities the current build cannot adopt safely. (#5235) Thanks @PerishCode.

  • Automation schedules stay in the language you chose. Localized schedule summaries no longer fall back to generic text. (#3591) Thanks @mturac.

🐛 Fixed
🎨 Studio, previews & community
  • Design-system previews load their images reliably again. Missing preview assets no longer leave design-system cards or detail views incomplete. (#5381)

  • The plugin preview panel can always be collapsed. Scrolling content no longer covers the sidebar handle. (#5300)

  • Annotation controls stay close to the work. The draw composer now floats beside the active annotation instead of appearing at a fixed, disconnected position. (#5296) Thanks @lefarcen.

  • Artifacts from plain-stream agents keep their identity. Artifact tags now survive persistence across fenced, indented, and inline output formats. (#4731) Thanks @YOMXXX.

  • Community previews match the plugins that actually ship. Stale and blank preview entries are filtered out before they reach Home. (#5262) Thanks @XingliGe.

  • Japanese text renders with the right fallback fonts. Preview content is less likely to show missing-glyph boxes. (#5104) Thanks @Allenz5.

🧠 Agents, runtimes & recovery
  • First launch no longer strands the desktop app on a raw 502 page. Transient startup failures are retried and real gateway errors are handled honestly. (#5186) Thanks @swpark3179.

  • Local CLI setup can be tested during onboarding again. The missing connection control has been restored. (#4686) Thanks @roian6.

  • Recovered runs keep streaming. After the daemon reconnects, the web app continues consuming retries instead of stopping after the first recovery. (#5221) Thanks @YOMXXX.

  • Disconnected BYOK requests stop upstream work. Closing the client now aborts the provider request instead of leaving it running in the background. (#5182) Thanks @tomsen02.

  • Stalled child processes are shut down cleanly. Watchdog escalation now targets the process that is actually stuck. (#5202) Thanks @tomsen02.

  • Memory extraction stops repeatedly mining the same turn. Duplicate work and raw transport noise no longer waste tokens or pollute remembered context. (#5233) Thanks @BigBandaid2.

  • Runtime failures point to the useful cause. Stream and upstream errors are classified more accurately instead of collapsing into a vague failure. (#5223)

  • CodeWhale plain-output runs behave correctly. Terminal control and prompt budgeting no longer break when structured output is unavailable. (#5253)

🔒 Security & cleanup
  • GitHub-installed extensions can no longer smuggle in symlinks. Unsafe package layouts are rejected during installation. (#5093) Thanks @EthanGuo-coder.

  • Deploy preflight cannot be stalled by hostile document input. The document-type check no longer permits catastrophic regex backtracking. (#5067) Thanks @EthanGuo-coder.

  • Failed run startups clean up their access token. Tool credentials are revoked immediately when a run cannot begin. (#5207) Thanks @tomsen02.

How open-design-v0.14.1 went
open-design-v0.14.0

Open Design 0.14.0 — Inspiration Time Machine

Added 11
  • Plan mode with Excalidraw sketch flows for shaping an idea before pushing it into a full build
  • HTML file version history so generated documents are easier to revisit and recover
  • Design System Source Context plugin for bringing system material closer to the active design flow
  • Glass Design System UI Kit plugin for a ready-to-use visual system inside the plugin ecosystem
  • Richer draft design-system previews with lightbox browsing so large image sets are easier to inspect
  • Model cost tiers in Open Design Cloud to make price differences visible before committing
Changed 4
  • Composer context sources now show the material feeding the composer and track that trail more clearly
  • Model choice interface now displays provider information and cleaner error handling to reduce confusion
  • Reconnection is more resilient and failed-looking messages can reattach when the run actually succeeded
  • Preview reload behavior improved and composer stays steadier during fast interaction
Fixed 2
  • Local authentication is less likely to be misread as broken in BYOK provider setups
  • Specific export error codes, run workspace provenance, and packaged crash-scene evidence make failures easier to explain and reproduce
🌟 Codename: Inspiration Time Machine

🪄 125 PRs · 36 contributors · 5 days0.14.0 makes Open Design an inspiration time machine. Too many good ideas still vanished into the flow: a promising sketch, a useful source, a better earlier version, or the exact moment a draft started to go wrong. 0.14.0 keeps more of the work alive — sketch first, trace the inputs, step back through HTML history, and recover the thread instead of losing the spark. 🚀

🔥 Highlights
  • ✏️ Plan mode gives rough ideas somewhere to land before the real build starts. Jumping straight from a thought to a long prompt could make early exploration feel slippery: the concept changed fast, but the working plan stayed invisible. Plan mode and Excalidraw sketch flows make it easier to think in outlines, shapes, and next steps before you commit to a full run. (#4862) Thanks @pftom.

  • 📚 Composer context stops feeling hidden behind the answer. When a result looked right or wrong, it used to take too much guessing to remember what the model actually saw. Context sources now show the material feeding the composer and track that trail more clearly, so follow-up edits feel grounded instead of fuzzy. (#4869, #5057) Thanks @pftom.

  • 🕘 HTML work now has visible version history. Generated or edited HTML used to feel fragile: once you changed it, the previous shape could disappear with it. HTML file version history makes iteration safer, so you can compare, recover, and keep moving without treating every edit like a one-way door. (#4872, #5072) Thanks @pftom.

  • 🧩 Design systems are turning into real working material, not just references. Instead of hunting across screenshots, style snippets, and separate kits, you can now pull richer system context straight into the flow. The Design System Source Context plugin, the Glass Design System UI Kit plugin, and richer live previews with lightbox browsing make reusable design material easier to inspect and apply. (#4931, #4395, #4777) Thanks @hanyunsushi, @HiCatcat, @pftom.

  • 💸 Model choices stop hiding the trade-offs. Picking a model used to feel like a memory test: which option is newer, which one costs more, and which provider is about to fail for a small configuration reason? Cloud model cost tiers, refreshed pricing support, and cleaner provider error handling make choosing — and trusting — a model a lot less blind. (#5247, #5212, #4873, #5054) Thanks @XingliGe, @pruefsumme, @YOMXXX.

  • 🔌 Bring-your-own stack fits more real-world setups. Teams using their own providers or internal endpoints should not need a pile of glue before the first run. BYOK providers now route more cleanly through OpenCode, internal provider endpoints are easier to allow safely, and local auth is less likely to be misread as broken. (#4876, #4250, #4632) Thanks @PerishCode, @maxmilian, @thatditsyboy.

  • 🔄 Live work is harder to lose during reloads and reconnects. A dropped stream, a reload, or a quick search could still knock a good session out of rhythm. Reconnection is more resilient now, failed-looking messages can reattach when the run actually succeeded, preview reload behaves properly, and the composer stays steadier during fast interaction. (#4971, #4651, #4652, #4298) Thanks @TheRealMkadmi, @cbeaulieu-gt, @Diyoncrz18.

  • 🩺 When something breaks, Open Design leaves a better trail behind. “Error” without context is not a fix; it is a dead end. Specific export error codes, run workspace provenance, and packaged crash-scene evidence make failures much easier to explain, reproduce, and recover from. (#5220, #4264, #5224) Thanks @lefarcen, @dredozubov.

  • Template cards and carousels behave better under real scrolling and layout pressure. (#5090, #4785) Thanks @xxiaoxiong, @jzhishu.
🔑 BYOK, agents & runtime
  • Local auth is less likely to be mistaken for broken credentials. (#4632) Thanks @thatditsyboy.
  • Minimax, NVIDIA BYOK, Kimi, and npm-based runtime resolution are less brittle. (#4873, #5054, #5070, #5078) Thanks @pruefsumme, @YOMXXX, @EthanGuo-coder, @holistis.
  • OpenCode and agent runtimes fail more honestly instead of stumbling forward. (#4835, #4747, #4957, #5109) Thanks @abhi-zit77, @want2knoww, @AjTheSpidey, @todotge.
🩺 Reliability & diagnostics
  • Reloads, reconnections, and resumed runs recover more cleanly after interruptions. (#4298, #4651, #4652, #4971) Thanks @Diyoncrz18, @cbeaulieu-gt, @TheRealMkadmi.
  • Exports now surface specific failure codes, and packaged crashes capture stronger evidence. (#5220, #5224) Thanks @lefarcen.
  • Memory decisions, updater controls, preview state, and snippet styling are all less likely to drift into confusing states. (#4913, #4946, #4996, #4516) Thanks @maxmilian, @Sid-Qin.

How open-design-v0.14.0 went
open-design-v0.13.0

Open Design 0.13.0 — Stay in Flow

Added 11
  • Native session resume across Codex, OpenCode, Pi, and OpenDesign Cloud so follow-up turns can reconnect to the same work
  • BYOK provider presets to make model setup more discoverable
  • OpenDesign Cloud wallet balance visibility across the Settings card and follow-up flows
  • Mimo Code support and a corrected Cogito output cap for broader agent and model coverage
  • Programmatic screenshot-backed PPTX and PDF export so finished HTML work can move into shareable documents
  • Bundled Perplexity AI design-system plugin manifest and duplicated example plugins as projects
Changed 4
  • Balance checks are no longer a black box with clearer wallet state display and inline actions in the settings card
  • Export path feels closer to handoff with deck keyboard navigation no longer double-stepping through slides
  • Brand pages stay previewable after prefetch with improved logo preview behavior
  • Open Design now recognizes the standalone Codex app bundle and ships a newer bundled Vela CLI
Fixed 2
  • Clearer task-failure cards and simpler error-source diagnostics make failed or resumed work easier to understand
  • Better cache accounting for improved diagnostics and resume workflows
🌟 Codename: Stay in Flow

🧭 116 PRs · 26 contributors · 6 days0.13.0 keeps the design session alive. The old rhythm was easy to break: a run lost its place, a model picker made you guess, an OpenDesign Cloud balance check hid behind a retry, or a finished deck needed one more export detour. 0.13.0 turns those interruptions into a calmer loop: resume the work, see what is happening, choose the right model faster, and hand off real files without leaving Open Design. 🚀

🔥 Highlights
  • 🧵 Resume the conversation instead of rebuilding the context. Long design sessions used to punish every interruption: switch tools, come back later, and the next prompt might feel like starting from scratch. Native session resume now keeps Codex, OpenCode, Pi, and OpenDesign Cloud runs connected across turns, so follow-up work can continue from the same live thread. (#4629) Thanks @lefarcen.

  • 🔑 BYOK setup stops feeling like provider archaeology. Bringing your own keys should be a choice, not a scavenger hunt through model names and provider quirks. Presets now make provider setup clearer, and the first-artifact handoff is cleaner for both CLI and BYOK flows. (#4902, #4634) Thanks @PerishCode.

  • 🤖 OpenDesign Cloud shows its wallet, its retries, and its next move. Balance checks are no longer a black box. The settings card shows wallet state more clearly, keeps actions inline, restores follow-up handling, and promotes retry statuses so a transient balance lookup feels recoverable instead of mysterious. (#4675, #4965, #4984, #5002, #5010, #5015) Thanks @alchemistklk.

  • 📤 Exports behave more like deliverables. Finished work can now go straight to screenshot-backed PPTX and PDF output, while deck keyboard navigation no longer double-steps through slides. The export path feels closer to handoff, not a separate production chore. (#4604, #4897) Thanks @lefarcen, @PerishCode.

  • 🧩 Design-system previews got richer and easier to trust. Brand pages stay previewable after prefetch, rich design-system chips are easier to scan, logo previews behave, and bundled plugin examples are easier to open as real projects. (#4530, #4776, #4806, #4861, #4952) Thanks @PerishCode, @pftom, chaoxiaoche.

  • 🧠 Agent choices are broader, clearer, and less brittle. Open Design now recognizes the standalone Codex app bundle, ships a newer bundled Vela CLI, supports Mimo Code, and fixes the Cogito output cap so agent setup is less likely to fail for environmental reasons. (#4575, #4578, #4888, #4889) Thanks @Grumpster-Dev, @yangweijie, @lefarcen, @xne998808-ai.

  • 🏢 Teams and official channels are easier to find. Workspace-for-Teams now has a visible entry point and enterprise lead page, official social links include Instagram, LinkedIn, and Xiaohongshu, and the product/resource navigation is less likely to steal clicks from the pages people meant to open. (#4737, #4779, #4784, #4977) Thanks @lefarcen, @Tuola, @xne998808-ai.

  • 🩺 When something fails, the app gives you a better starting point. Run lifecycle tracing, clearer task-failure cards, simpler error-source diagnostics, and better cache accounting make failed or resumed work easier to understand without turning the UI into a log viewer. (#4431, #4432, #4656, #4701, #4903) Thanks @PerishCode, michaeltaxman911-hue, @lefarcen.

🌟 Codename: Brand-backed Design System

🎨 103 PRs · 30 contributors · 6 days — codename "Brand-backed Design System." For the past two months Open Design started from a blank page and designed for you. 0.12.0 flips it: the brand you already own becomes a reusable design system. Point it at a live site, drop in a Figma file, or clip a page right in your browser, and it lifts the real brand — colors, type, voice — into a design system you can build from. That's the whole idea behind this release: a brand isn't a separate thing, it is a design system — capture it once and it runs through one unbroken loop, capture → design system → build → export, yours to reuse on every project after. Under the hood it's also the steadiest release yet: failures that used to vanish into one grey "execution_failed" bucket now say what actually went wrong, runs that stumble back off and retry instead of dying, and your first-run sign-in survives a browser that flakes out. 🏛️

🔥 Highlights
  • 🎨 Bring your own design system — and reuse it forever. The marquee of 0.12.0. Until now the only way to get a brand-accurate design system was to hand-author a DESIGN.md — a wall for anyone not already steeped in the spec. Now every ingest path feeds one pipeline: a brand URL, a dropped DESIGN.md, an offline .fig file (decoded locally, no Figma account), or a page captured with the new browser clipper all extract into a reusable user: design system — because in 0.12.0 a brand is a design system. From there it's one loop, end to end: preview it as a kit + templates, build straight from it (onboarding now finishes on a build step), and one-click export the result to PDF, PPTX, editable PPTX, or image. Captured logos, screenshots, and palettes finally have a home in the new OD Library (a content-addressed asset registry), and a fresh install ships with 150 ready-made brand design systems (Airbnb, Stripe, Vercel, Tesla, Supabase, Uber, …) so the picker is useful on day one. Full CLI parity too: od brand, od library, od figma import, od export. (#4691, #4260, #4457, #4420, #4346) Thanks @pftom, @lefarcen, @dredozubov.

  • 🩺 Failures that finally tell you what broke. The dreaded catch-all "execution_failed" is gone — runs now name their cause (startup crash, resume expiry, agent stuck in a tool loop, stale provider config) so you know whether to retry or report. And when a run can recover, it now backs off with jitter and retries on its own instead of falling over. (#4502, #4608, #4478, #4501, #3375, #4588, #4615) Thanks @lefarcen, @PerishCode, @nettee, @portseif, @maoxin1234.

  • 🤝 Sign-in that survives a bad browser handoff. AMR / cloud sign-in used to hang for five minutes in silence if the browser handoff flaked — now it prints the login URL and code right there so you can finish by hand, and the whole onboarding Connect step was redesigned into a clean cloud sign-in landing. (#4402, #4513, #4419) Thanks @lefarcen, @chaoxiaoche.

  • 🧩 Your coding agent, fewer rough edges. The agents you already use got steadier: OpenCode binary detection on npm, Windows Node discovery via fnm, pnpm resolution through Corepack, a centralized reasoning-provider policy, Codex subscription image-gen preferred (and single-image runs stay single-file), and the Warp "open in" launcher is hidden where it doesn't belong. (#4535, #4488, #4476, #4477, #4551, #4544) Thanks @YOMXXX, @leorivastech, @dredozubov, @nettee, @cbeaulieu-gt.

  • 📄 Sharper PDFs and deck handling. PDF export now waits for the page to actually be print-ready before firing, printed filenames are Teams-safe, deck detection picks up slide-prefixed classes, and HTML-PPT screenshots no longer depend on a system Chrome being installed. (#4458, #4329, #4278, #4341, #4582) Thanks @YOMXXX, @nettee, @cbeaulieu-gt, @NeOMakinG, @PerishCode.

  • 🖥️ A desktop that shows its work. The splash screen now shows real boot-stage progress instead of a frozen logo, wears the capitalised "Open Design" wordmark, and payload updates install in-app the way you'd expect. (#4223, #4721, #4471, #4524) Thanks @swpark3179, @lefarcen, @TheAngryPit, @PerishCode.

  • 🌐 More polish where Open Design lives on the web. A refreshed home page with mobile-responsive fixes, a new "What is vibe design" blog post in 18 locales plus a wider vibe-design cluster, a site-wide SEO metadata pass, and the official account unified to @OpenDesignHQ. (#4497, #4416, #4484, #4581, #4568, #4480) Thanks @lefarcen, @wangchenglong0001, @xne998808-ai.

  • 🚢 Easier to self-host. The runtime image ships bash and git, Docker defaults are aligned with the GHCR releases, there's an opt-in API-auth-disable flag for trusted networks, and a new Sealos one-click deployment option. (#4344, #4327, #4541, #4472) Thanks @MattchewMoar, @mrcfps, @yangchuansheng.

🌟 Codename: The Bazaar

🎨 137 PRs · 57 contributors · 4 days — codename “The Bazaar.” A cathedral is built in private by a chosen few; a bazaar is built in the open, by everyone, all at once — and 0.11.0 turns Open Design into the bazaar. Walk in and start picking things up. The stalls are a gallery of 56 official decks and 23 community slide kits, each playing a live clip of the real output — browse the rows, grab what catches your eye, make it yours. Any vendor can set up shop: whatever coding agent you already use — Amp, Codebuddy, Kimi, Codex, GitHub Copilot — just works, no tool you're locked out of. And anyone can wander in off the street: a newcomer's first run is a guided welcome, not a locked gate. Come walk the market. 🚀

🔥 Highlights
  • 🧩 Use the coding agent you already love. Whatever you've wired into your day now snaps in right beside Claude — two brand-new adapters for Amp and Codebuddy Code, a fixed Kimi Code runtime, Codex subscription media, Antigravity support, a roomier GitHub Copilot ceiling, and reasonix 1.x MCP env. Never switch the tool you trust again. (#3861, #3961, #4191, #4244, #4247, #2579, #4094) Thanks @techpotatoes, @aleexjiang, @AriaShishegaran, @passive-book, @mrcfps, @YOMXXX, @AirTech-Full.
  • 🖼️ A gallery that finally shows off. No more guessing from a dead thumbnail — every plugin card and detail page now plays a live clip of the real output. All 56 official decks got an on-brand glow-up, 23 community slide kits from the best open-source skills joined the shelf, and the HyperFrames video templates are fresh. Browse, hit play, riff. (#4237, #4357, #4127, #4063, #4350) Thanks @lefarcen, @free666799, @elihahah666, @xne998808-ai.
  • 🌐 Open Design has a real home on the web now. Wherever it shows up, it looks the part: design pages for all 21 supported agents, a full set of trust pages (about, FAQ, privacy, terms, a real 404) with a rebuilt footer, a custom share card site-wide so every link you paste looks sharp, a rebuilt blog with a table of contents and full i18n, a top-to-bottom SEO + UX pass on the plugin pages, and two new community tutorials to get people rolling. (#4050, #4417, #4292, #4330, #4331, #4386, #4158) Thanks @xne998808-ai, @wangchenglong0001.
  • 🧭 A welcome, not a wall. Your first run is a guided path now — a gated Connect step (with a tooltip that explains why it's gated), a clean sequential stepper, smarter BYOK and CLI auto-detection, and no jarring home-screen flash before onboarding even starts. A control panel became an actual welcome. (#4389, #4418, #4425, #4426, #4429) Thanks @free666799, @PerishCode.
  • 🛡️ Rock-solid — the biggest stability pass yet. The desktop window heals itself when the renderer dies or a load fails, runs never hang waiting on a question, the preview stops reloading out from under you while you mark up, screenshot, or comment, a file-descriptor leak is plugged, the updater stops spinning at zero delay, and a long tail of dialog, picker, and screenshot glitches is gone. The build you keep open all day just stays up. (#4179, #4277, #4365, #4163, #4143, #4159, #4173, #3909) Thanks @portseif, @cbeaulieu-gt, @lefarcen, @koniaik, @nettee, @swpark3179, @opendorai, @maxmilian.
  • 🔑 Your own keys stop fighting you. The Composio key gate is one click now instead of a dead end, Gemini BYOK models track the current API (shut-down 2.0 out, 3.x in), and composer model switching finally sticks. (#4047, #3821, #4209) Thanks @jzhishu, @muhsin9999, @AmyShang-alt.
  • 🔒 Nothing leaks. Preview URL handling is hardened and the local preview server binds to loopback by default, so a project preview never wanders onto your network. (#4226, #4227) Thanks @VIVAAN-DHAWAN.
  • 🧱 Built to grow. Sandbox contract shapes and ownership guards are pinned, explicit-root imports are allowed, and model-orchestrator scratch workspaces land — the groundwork for what comes next. (#3429, #3694, #4263) Thanks @dredozubov.

Open Design 0.10.1 — stability & performance patch

Changed 2
  • Deduplicate and inject system-prompt content on demand instead of every turn to reduce redundant overhead on each agent turn
  • Summarize prior-turn artifacts in the transcript instead of resending full HTML every turn to cut payload bloat on long conversations
Fixed 1
  • Prevent runs from stopping prematurely when Claude reports token usage while pausing to call a tool, ensuring the run continues until work is actually done

🩹 A focused stability & performance patch on 0.10.0. No new surface — just fixes and tuning for the shipped 0.10.0 line: leaner prompts and lighter transcripts on every turn, and Claude runs that pause to use a tool no longer get cut off and falsely marked "finished."

⚡ Performance
  • 🧠 Leaner system prompt per turn. System-prompt content is de-duplicated, injected on demand instead of every turn, and per-turn input is curbed — less redundant overhead on each agent turn. (#4203) Thanks @NJUHua.
  • 📜 Lighter transcripts. Prior-turn artifacts are summarized in the transcript instead of resending the full HTML every turn, cutting payload bloat on long conversations. (#4202) Thanks @NJUHua.
🐛 Fixed
  • 🩺 Runs no longer stop short at a tool boundary. When a Claude run reported token usage while pausing to call a tool, Open Design could end the session too early — the run exited with no artifact and the chat landed in a confusing "Stopped with unfinished work" state. Usage at a tool-use boundary is no longer treated as completion, so the run continues until the work is actually done. (#4198) Thanks @yinjialu.
