The third release candidate for OpenRGB 1.0. This should be treated as the latest stable build even though it's a release candidate. This release candidate brings improved device support, bug fixes, and some minor user interface cleanup over the 1.0rc2 release candidate. With 1.0rc2, we replaced the problematic WinRing0 driver with PawnIO on Windows. This release candidate brings some improvements to the PawnIO usage, reducing PawnIO CPU usage and adding some usability improvements with the installer prompting users to install PawnIO. This release candidate fixes two long-standing issues when probing I2C devices that could lead to system instability on some setups. The PawnIO driver additionally now supports I2C/SMBus on Intel Skylake-X (X299) platforms, allowing RGB RAM control on these systems that did not have support under any previous driver.

This release candidate does not update the plugin API or SDK version, so the 1.0rc2 plugins will still work. I'm not doing plugin release candidates for this one so keep using the 1.0rc2 versions.

Distro maintainers, please continue using Qt5 for this release candidate. We will switch to Qt6 with 1.0 final.

The second release candidate for OpenRGB 1.0.

There have been some upgrades to the user interface since 1.0rc1 and some additional device support and fixes. This is the first release candidate build of OpenRGB using the PawnIO driver on Windows. You must install PawnIO from https://pawnio.eu and run OpenRGB as administrator in order to access SMBus devices now. The option to install OpenRGB as a system service is now provided in the Windows installer so that the backend can run as administrator while the frontend runs as a normal user.

The plugin interface and SDK version remain the same as 1.0rc1, so plugins that worked with 1.0rc1 should work with 1.0rc2 as well.

OpenRGB Version 0.8

This has been a release almost a year in the making and is the largest release in OpenRGB's history! A wide variety of new devices have been added thanks to our incredible community contributors. There are also quite a few general improvements under the hood and in the user interface. Because this release is so extensive, this release note may not cover every single change in the 22 pages of merged and closed MRs that made it in since 0.7.   • Due to changes in device names, existing profiles you have saved from previous versions may not work and will need to be recreated. Same goes for saved addressable controller sizes.

  • If upgrading from a release prior to OpenRGB 0.6, it is recommended to disable OpenRazer or OpenRazer-win32 in the settings. This allows use of the new Razer controller with better device support.

  • Due to plugin versioning change, you may have to delete your old plugins manually before OpenRGB will install new ones. To do this, go to the Settings tab, under General Settings click Open Settings Folder. Close OpenRGB, then delete the plugins folder in this directory. Reopen OpenRGB and you can install new plugins from the settings tab.

Known Issues:

    • Please open an issue on GitLab or join our Discord to get its PCI ID added. We need the following information:
      • Card marketing name and model number (Link to ASUS website preferred)
      • PCIe ID (Vendor, Product, Subvendor, Subproduct)
      • Detector I2C address (you can get this using a previous version of OpenRGB, version 0.5 recommended)
