From Roon

Hey Everyone, We’re rolling out a hotfix to address critical issues that surfaced in our latest production release. This update targets key bugs that were impacting the Roon experience for RoonOS and macOS users. For RoonOS, we fixed the issue that caused RoonServer to appear as “Not Running” in the WebUI when the server was active. For macOS users running macOS 12 or 13, we addressed a bug that prevented RoonServer from starting. The other macOS versions (14 and higher) were not affected, and there should be no change in the behaviour. We also included a couple of minor fixes to the Daily Picks feature based on recent user feedback. Thank you for your patience and continued support as we quickly resolve these issues. From Roon

Hey Everyone, We are happy to announce that Roon 2.71 is live! It is a stability- and performance-focused release that brings together fixes and refinements across RoonServer, Roon Remote, and Roon ARC. This release includes a good number of changes that should make Roon feel smoother and more reliable day to day — from server performance to live radio playback and beyond. As for the new features, we’re introducing Daily Picks, a new recommendation feature that helps you rediscover your library and explore new music. Available in Roon and Roon ARC, it delivers a fresh set of personalized picks to your Home screen each day, drawn from your listening history. Daily Picks Daily Picks gives you a new reason to open Roon every morning. Every day, Roon will deliver three to five picks to your Home screen, drawn from your own listening, some from the past few weeks, and some reaching further back to surface a forgotten favorite. Each pick tells you where it came from and opens into a full set of albums to browse, play, or save to Listen Later. Some days, Roon will even surface a brand-new release from an artist you listen to. Tomorrow brings a completely new slate of recommendations, so make sure to check in daily. Daily Picks are available in Roon and Roon ARC. Picks are generated based on your history, so make sure you have enough listening in your profile, and a connected streaming service -- in order to see Daily Picks. RoonServer performance We’ve improved RoonServer’s performance, particularly when browsing your library and using multiple remotes connected to the same core. Previously, RoonServer could slow down after several days of continuous use, especially in households with more than one remote in regular use. Disconnecting and reconnecting a remote should now properly release the resources it was using, helping RoonServer stay more responsive during long uptimes. Qobuz sync improvements We’ve addressed a couple of syncing issues affecting Qobuz users. Some customers saw their Qobuz playlists appear empty, and in other cases, Qobuz libraries wouldn’t complete a full sync with Roon. Both were caused by timing-related issues on our end and should now be resolved. Live Radio and playback Live Radio playback should now be more reliable: we’ve fixed a bug that caused certain HLS streams to lag around 30 minutes behind the actual broadcast. We’ve also made sure Roon correctly recognizes when your output device goes into standby during a Live Radio session, and fixed an issue where tracks picked up during a Live Radio session could incorrectly show up in your Played Recently activity and History. For Roon ARC, we’ve fixed several playback-related bugs, including issues with classical compositions, playlist interactions, and download behaviour. Bug Fixes A couple of visual issues have also been fixed in this release. On some Android phones — including certain Samsung and Pixel models — colours in Roon Remote could appear oversaturated, and text could be harder to read; this should now display correctly. We’ve also fixed an issue on some Windows PCs with ARM processors (such as certain Surface devices), where text and the cursor in the search bar were invisible. If you were affected by either of these and have now updated, we’d love to hear whether things look right on your end. Thank you for your continued support. From Roon

Hey Everyone, Roon 2.70 is a significant performance-focused release. We are moving directly from 2.67 to 2.70 because it brings together several foundational changes across search, library browsing, memory management, and Roon Remote on mobile devices Improving Roon’s performance remains one of our highest engineering priorities. A large part of our current work is focused on making Roon feel consistently fast, responsive, and dependable, so that your attention stays on discovering and enjoying music rather than dealing with slowdowns or interruptions. This release delivers the next major group of improvements in that effort. The changes are spread across different parts of Roon, but they all serve the same goal: reducing unnecessary work, lowering memory use, and making Roon more responsive as your library and usage grow. We believe many customers will notice a meaningful improvement, especially those with larger libraries, frequent library changes, multiple connected devices, or long-running RoonServer installations. At the same time, this is not the end of our performance work. We know that some customers may still encounter situations where Roon becomes slower than it should be. We are continuing to investigate those cases and are actively working on the next set of improvements. Faster library search We have replaced Roon’s in-house library search index with Tantivy, a fast Rust-based full-text search engine. This change is designed to make existing library search behavior faster. It is not intended to change what Roon finds or how results are ranked. Users with larger libraries should see the biggest benefit, particularly those with more than approximately 25,000 tracks. We expect this update to:

  • Substantially reduce very slow searches in large libraries
  • Improve search responsiveness across the app
  • Reduce RoonServer’s settled memory usage, especially for larger libraries More efficient browsing and library maintenance We have also replaced the internal system Roon uses to maintain sorted library views, including browsing by artist, album, date added, and more. Previously, this part of Roon could gradually accumulate unnecessary memory and processing work as your library changed. The effect could become more noticeable with frequent metadata updates, Smart Playlists, extended browsing, ARC sync activity, or multiple clients connected at once. Roon could also create separate copies of equivalent browsing data for different connected clients. This meant that activity such as syncing ARC, playing music, adding tracks, or editing album information could sometimes create more work than necessary across the system. The new approach avoids those issues. Equivalent browsing data can now be shared between clients where appropriate, while memory and processing needs remain proportional to the size of your library instead of increasing over time. Together with several other fixes in this area, these changes make browsing and maintaining your library more efficient and help Roon remain responsive during normal day-to-day activity. .NET 10 on Roon Remote for Android and iOS Roon 2.70 marks the completion of a long-term modernization effort across Roon’s client applications. In Roon 2.65, we moved our desktop applications to .NET 10. With this release, Roon Remote for Android and iOS has also made that transition, replacing the older Mono runtime. As a result, every Roon client now runs on the same modern .NET 10 foundation. This gives us a more consistent platform across desktop and mobile, removes the need to keep building around older mobile technology, and creates more room for us to make larger improvements to Roon in future releases. iOS compatibility Roon Remote for iPhone and iPad now requires iOS 12.2 or later. Roon Radio & Recommendation Improvements We’ve been listening to feedback about Roon Radio’s repetitive selections for a long time, and we really appreciate everyone taking the time to let us know about your experiences. We have a number of changes and improvements planned, and the first one is now live — this round cuts down on repetition within a radio session, and we believe it does so in a way that doesn’t impact the overall quality of the selections. Before we proceed with additional changes we are looking for feedback! Does Radio feel less repetitive? Are the picks better, worse, or about the same? In some cases, less repetition can mean the selections wander a bit, so if something feels off we want to know. We have created a feedback thread here. When you report back, make sure to tell us what you seeded radio from — the exact album, artist, track, or genre, or what was in your queue if radio started on its own. And please confirm that “Limit Roon Radio to Library” is switched off before giving feedback (it’s in the Radio settings on the Queue screen) — that’s a different selection path we haven’t touched, so it won’t tell us anything here. Other fixes A couple of other fixes worth mentioning. Thanks to everyone who flagged holiday music turning up out of season — we tracked down the bug and fixed it, so holiday tracks should no longer appear on their own. You can still get them any time of year by starting Radio from holiday music. We also fixed a bug where some home screen recommendation content could get stuck and stop changing over time. Your home screen should now refresh dynamically again. Bug fixes We didn’t forget to address problems reported by users on Community. We included a couple of minor bug fixes for both Roon and Roon ARC. Among those are restoring the visibility of play counts for non-library tracks in playlists, ensuring the Save and Cancel buttons are visible in the Edit Genre Mapping dialogue, a problem with synced lyrics in Roon ARC, and other minor bug fixes. Thank you for your continued support. The Team at Roon Labs Build Numbers Application Build

From Roon

Hey Everyone, Over the past year, we’ve been working through a list of things Roon users have been frustrated with for a long time – some for years. Performance has been a major focus: the kind of foundational work that makes everything feel faster and more responsive. But we’ve also been going area by area through the app, looking where the friction is and what we can do about it. This build covers a lot of that ground: scrobbling, Live Radio, the authorization flow, and more. There’s still more to come, but this is a meaningful step forward in all of these areas. Performance We continue to improve application performance across the board. Among the many changes in this area, probably the most noticeable will be startup: in this build, Roon Server startup time is cut by approximately 50% through improvements to how the library loading process works. For users with large libraries in particular, this should be immediately apparent. We’re also continuing to work through areas of the codebase that affect everyday responsiveness – more on that in future builds. Scrobbling improvements We’ve added support for ListenBrainz, giving you another option for scrobbling your music listening. While working on that integration, we also addressed several bugs that caused duplicate entries in Roon and Last.fm playback histories. Another change implemented in the scope of this project was moving the scrobbling services login flow out of the profile tab to the Settings → Services tab, which makes the login flow more accessible: The profile settings tab will only show the current status of a scrobbling service: ** Be aware that fixes will work only after migrating both Roon Server and the Roon / ARC client applications to the latest versions Playlist content duplication warning From now on, the client will display a warning when trying to add a track which is already present in a playlist. This feature will be available in both Roon and Roon ARC clients. Here’s an example of how the warning will look in the Roon client: Live Radio Live Radio has been another area with a long backlog of reported issues. This build addresses several of them. Roon’s Live Radio engine previously didn’t support two streaming formats now widely used by higher-quality stations: HLS .m4s chunks, and FLAC streams using EOS/BOS markers. The result was that these stations either failed to start or unexpectedly stopped midstream. Both are now handled correctly. We also fixed an issue where certain HLS live streams – including Danish Public Radio stations – were playing 30 minutes behind the current broadcast. Finally, Roon now correctly resolves TuneIn’s newer short URL format (tun.in/…) when adding stations manually. Authorization flow For years, our support team has spent a lot of time walking users through moving a Roon license from one server to another. The flow worked, but it was confusing and more than a little alarming – buttons that sounded irreversible, unclear defaults, and not enough reassurance that nothing would be lost. We’ve redesigned these screens to make the process feel like what it actually is: a straightforward move. We’ll keep a close eye on feedback here and refine further if things are still unclear. macOS back/forward navigation For macOS users, trackpad swipe gestures are a core part of how you move through the system – it’s muscle memory. We thought it was important to bring that same experience into Roon, so you can now use back/forward swipe gestures to navigate through your browsing history, just as you would anywhere else on macOS. Tooltips In this release, we added a toggle to control Hover Tooltips in Roon Thank you for your continued support. The Team at Roon Labs Build Numbers Application Build

  • Docker is now the recommended and supported deployment path for self-managed server environments

From Roon

For a long time, Roon users have been running RoonServer in self-managed environments beyond the traditional desktop path - on Linux servers, home labs, NAS systems, and custom-built machines. Those setups are more common than ever, and we are now making that path official. The official RoonServer Docker image is now available, and Docker is now our recommended and supported deployment path for self-managed server environments. docker pull ghcr.io/roonlabs/roonserver:latest

Getting started If you’re on Synology, QNAP, Unraid, TrueNAS, ASUSTOR, or a standard Linux machine, the KB article is your starting point. It walks through setup on each platform and covers what you need before you begin. RoonServer on Docker - step-by-step setup guide For technical users If you’re comfortable with Docker directly, for environment variables, volume structure, release channels, and troubleshooting detail, see the GitHub repository: github.com/RoonLabs/roon-docker Community Over the years, Roon community members filled this gap themselves - building Docker images, creating NAS-specific packages, writing guides, and helping users get running on platforms we didn’t officially support. We want to especially thank @crieke, @gTunes, @Steef_de_Bruijn, @DDPS, @elgeeko, @mjw and the many others who contributed images, fixes, documentation, and support along the way. Some of that work happened visibly in the community, and some of it happened more quietly on GitHub, Docker Hub, and elsewhere - but all of it mattered. We appreciate everyone who helped users get up and running over the years - you helped make this official solution possible. 1 post - 1 participant Read full topic

From Roon

Hey Everyone, This is a major release for us, and an important step forward for Roon. We’ve migrated the platform underneath the app to a newer foundation, which improves performance today and gives us a much stronger base for the work ahead. In practical terms, that means better efficiency, reduced memory usage, and a platform that gives us more room to keep improving Roon in the releases to come. You should feel that work in everyday use. RoonServer now uses memory more efficiently and returns more of it when it’s no longer needed, which is especially meaningful for larger libraries and systems with modest RAM. Browsing and sorting should also feel more responsive, with less overhead behind the scenes and more time spent doing the work you actually asked Roon to do. We’ll also be sharing a separate technical post for those of you who want a deeper look at the performance changes and the work behind them. We’re also continuing to bring Roon and ARC closer together. In this release, Focus comes to ARC, bringing one of Roon’s most powerful library tools to mobile across Albums, Artists, Tracks, Composers, and Compositions. If you already know Focus in Roon, it will feel immediately familiar in ARC - the same flexible filtering, the same inversion behavior, and the same ability to quickly narrow in on exactly what you want. You can learn more in this post. Alongside these larger changes, we’ve continued acting on your feedback with a long list of fixes and refinements across both Roon and ARC. This release adds Random sort to the Albums browser in both apps, giving you a new way to rediscover albums in your library when you want something less predictable than the usual browsing paths. We’ve also improved the visual design of tooltips in Roon on desktop, and added keyboard shortcut hints to tooltips where those shortcuts are available. Together with a range of long-standing fixes and smaller usability improvements, these changes help make Roon and ARC feel better in everyday use. One important note: this release requires macOS 12 or later on Mac, and on Linux requires glibc 2.27 or later plus OpenSSL 1.1.1 or later. If you missed our earlier announcement and want to check whether your system is affected, more details are available in this post. For Mac users who are not yet able to update to macOS 12 or later, we’re also making a pre-update installer available as a temporary option. This version will not receive future updates or security fixes, and may become incompatible with current Roon Remote or ARC versions over time. You can find the installer here. From Roon

Hey Everyone, We’ve corrected a playback engine bug that was causing infinite loops when Roon is unable to properly retrieve Qobuz tracks from their CDN. We continue to work with Qobuz to resolve the underlying playback issues, but these changes ensure that we cleanly handle failures when we’re confident the situation is unrecoverable. Fixed 4

  • Fixed a regression where the 'Fans also listened to' page failed to load nugs shows
  • Fixed an issue where the nugs icon toggle in Settings was behaving in reverse
  • Fixed a regression where the sidebar could still show a streaming service page link after logging out

From Roon

Hey Everyone, We’re rolling out a small follow-up release to smooth out a few nugs-related issues that surfaced after 2.61. If you cancelled nugs but your subscription was still active until the end of the billing period, Roon could fail to recognize it correctly, meaning you couldn’t use nugs in Roon during that time. This is now fixed. We also cleaned up a couple of regressions around nugs browsing and UI: the “Fans also listened to” page should load nugs shows again, and the nugs toggle in Settings now behaves the right way. Roon 2.60 and RoonBridge 2.60 are Live!

Security 1
  • Changed code signing requirements across Roon apps to address a potential security issue

From Roon

Hey everyone, We are making an out-of-cycle release which addresses a potential security issue across Roon apps by changing code signing requirements. To be clear, the possible impact of this issue is highly unlikely to be relevant on a home network, but is still recommended for all users. This update is now rolling out across Roon and Roon Bridge on all supported platforms. If you don’t have automatic updates enabled, we strongly recommend updating as soon as possible to ensure the smooth operation of your system. Note for Roon 1.8 Legacy This update is not available for Roon 1.8 Legacy. Roon 1.8 Legacy has been end-of-support since December 31, 2022 (following the release of Roon 2.0 in September 2022), and it will not receive updates going forward. • Fixed cases where certain widgets in the Qobuz browser failed to load
  • Fixed an issue on macOS Tahoe where playback to local audio devices could fail to initialize after changing the sample rate

From Roon

Hey Everyone, Today’s update is all about making Roon and Roon ARC feel more stable, responsive, and reliable in everyday use. We’ve reworked how ARC handles background activity to improve performance and reduce crashes, and we’ve fixed a couple of issues that could cause the app to crash when jumping into albums from Recently Played or Search, or when opening Focus in the Albums browser after changing your RoonServer. On the desktop side, we’ve resolved a problem on macOS 26 (Tahoe) where playback to local audio devices could fail to initialize after a sample rate change. We’ve also addressed cases where audio analysis could stall on files with an excessive number of tags, and refreshed the Roon icon to match Apple’s new Liquid Glass design language on Tahoe. This release also tightens up device discovery and library behavior. Roon should now more reliably discover multiple Loxone speakers over AirPlay 2, as well as Naim Atom devices. We’ve corrected cases where the wrong album version could be added to Listen Later, ensured non-library albums properly display their streaming service badge and Versions tab, and fixed issues where some artists couldn’t be removed from Listen Later or certain Qobuz widgets failed to load. Alongside these changes, you’ll find various other fixes and improvements throughout the experience. As always, we appreciate your feedback and support!
