This release includes a good number of changes that should make Roon feel smoother and more reliable day to day — from server performance to live radio playback and beyond. As for the new features, we’re introducing Daily Picks, a new recommendation feature that helps you rediscover your library and explore new music. Available in Roon and Roon ARC, it delivers a fresh set of personalized picks to your Home screen each day, drawn from your listening history. Daily Picks Daily Picks gives you a new reason to open Roon every morning. Every day, Roon will deliver three to five picks to your Home screen, drawn from your own listening, some from the past few weeks, and some reaching further back to surface a forgotten favorite. Each pick tells you where it came from and opens into a full set of albums to browse, play, or save to Listen Later. Some days, Roon will even surface a brand-new release from an artist you listen to. Tomorrow brings a completely new slate of recommendations, so make sure to check in daily. Daily Picks are available in Roon and Roon ARC. Picks are generated based on your history, so make sure you have enough listening in your profile, and a connected streaming service -- in order to see Daily Picks. RoonServer performance We’ve improved RoonServer’s performance, particularly when browsing your library and using multiple remotes connected to the same core. Previously, RoonServer could slow down after several days of continuous use, especially in households with more than one remote in regular use. Disconnecting and reconnecting a remote should now properly release the resources it was using, helping RoonServer stay more responsive during long uptimes. Qobuz sync improvements We’ve addressed a couple of syncing issues affecting Qobuz users. Some customers saw their Qobuz playlists appear empty, and in other cases, Qobuz libraries wouldn’t complete a full sync with Roon. Both were caused by timing-related issues on our end and should now be resolved. Live Radio and playback Live Radio playback should now be more reliable: we’ve fixed a bug that caused certain HLS streams to lag around 30 minutes behind the actual broadcast. We’ve also made sure Roon correctly recognizes when your output device goes into standby during a Live Radio session, and fixed an issue where tracks picked up during a Live Radio session could incorrectly show up in your Played Recently activity and History. For Roon ARC, we’ve fixed several playback-related bugs, including issues with classical compositions, playlist interactions, and download behaviour. Bug Fixes A couple of visual issues have also been fixed in this release. On some Android phones — including certain Samsung and Pixel models — colours in Roon Remote could appear oversaturated, and text could be harder to read; this should now display correctly. We’ve also fixed an issue on some Windows PCs with ARM processors (such as certain Surface devices), where text and the cursor in the search bar were invisible. We are moving directly from 2.67 to 2.70 because it brings together several foundational changes across search, library browsing, memory management, and Roon Remote on mobile devices Improving Roon’s performance remains one of our highest engineering priorities. A large part of our current work is focused on making Roon feel consistently fast, responsive, and dependable, so that your attention stays on discovering and enjoying music rather than dealing with slowdowns or interruptions. This release delivers the next major group of improvements in that effort. The changes are spread across different parts of Roon, but they all serve the same goal: reducing unnecessary work, lowering memory use, and making Roon more responsive as your library and usage grow. We believe many customers will notice a meaningful improvement, especially those with larger libraries, frequent library changes, multiple connected devices, or long-running RoonServer installations. At the same time, this is not the end of our performance work. We know that some customers may still encounter situations where Roon becomes slower than it should be. We are continuing to investigate those cases and are actively working on the next set of improvements. Faster library search We have replaced Roon’s in-house library search index with Tantivy, a fast Rust-based full-text search engine. This change is designed to make existing library search behavior faster. It is not intended to change what Roon finds or how results are ranked. Users with larger libraries should see the biggest benefit, particularly those with more than approximately 25,000 tracks. We expect this update to: - Substantially reduce very slow searches in large libraries - Improve search responsiveness across the app - Reduce RoonServer’s settled memory usage, especially for larger libraries More efficient browsing and library maintenance We have also replaced the internal system Roon uses to maintain sorted library views, including browsing by artist, album, date added, and more. Previously, this part of Roon could gradually accumulate unnecessary memory and processing work as your library changed. The effect could become more noticeable with frequent metadata updates, Smart Playlists, extended browsing, ARC sync activity, or multiple clients connected at once. Roon could also create separate copies of equivalent browsing data for different connected clients. This meant that activity such as syncing ARC, playing music, adding tracks, or editing album information could sometimes create more work than necessary across the system. The new approach avoids those issues. Equivalent browsing data can now be shared between clients where appropriate, while memory and processing needs remain proportional to the size of your library instead of increasing over time. Together with several other fixes in this area, these changes make browsing and maintaining your library more efficient and help Roon remain responsive during normal day-to-day activity. .NET 10 on Roon Remote for Android and iOS Roon 2.70 marks the completion of a long-term modernization effort across Roon’s client applications. In Roon 2.65, we moved our desktop applications to .NET 10. With this release, Roon Remote for Android and iOS has also made that transition, replacing the older Mono runtime. As a result, every Roon client now runs on the same modern .NET 10 foundation. This gives us a more consistent platform across desktop and mobile, removes the need to keep building around older mobile technology, and creates more room for us to make larger improvements to Roon in future releases. iOS compatibility Roon Remote for iPhone and iPad now requires iOS 12.2 or later. This build covers a lot of that ground: scrobbling, Live Radio, the authorization flow, and more. There’s still more to come, but this is a meaningful step forward in all of these areas. Performance We continue to improve application performance across the board. Among the many changes in this area, probably the most noticeable will be startup: in this build, Roon Server startup time is cut by approximately 50% through improvements to how the library loading process works. For users with large libraries in particular, this should be immediately apparent. We’re also continuing to work through areas of the codebase that affect everyday responsiveness – more on that in future builds. Scrobbling improvements We’ve added support for ListenBrainz, giving you another option for scrobbling your music listening. While working on that integration, we also addressed several bugs that caused duplicate entries in Roon and Last.fm playback histories. Another change implemented in the scope of this project was moving the scrobbling services login flow out of the profile tab to the Settings → Services tab, which makes the login flow more accessible: The profile settings tab will only show the current status of a scrobbling service: ** Be aware that fixes will work only after migrating both Roon Server and the Roon / ARC client applications to the latest versions Playlist content duplication warning From now on, the client will display a warning when trying to add a track which is already present in a playlist. This feature will be available in both Roon and Roon ARC clients. Here’s an example of how the warning will look in the Roon client: Live Radio Live Radio has been another area with a long backlog of reported issues. This build addresses several of them. Roon’s Live Radio engine previously didn’t support two streaming formats now widely used by higher-quality stations: HLS .m4s chunks, and FLAC streams using EOS/BOS markers. The result was that these stations either failed to start or unexpectedly stopped midstream. Both are now handled correctly. We also fixed an issue where certain HLS live streams – including Danish Public Radio stations – were playing 30 minutes behind the current broadcast. Finally, Roon now correctly resolves TuneIn’s newer short URL format (tun.in/…) when adding stations manually. Authorization flow For years, our support team has spent a lot of time walking users through moving a Roon license from one server to another. The flow worked, but it was confusing and more than a little alarming – buttons that sounded irreversible, unclear defaults, and not enough reassurance that nothing would be lost. We’ve redesigned these screens to make the process feel like what it actually is: a straightforward move. We’ll keep a close eye on feedback here and refine further if things are still unclear. macOS back/forward navigation For macOS users, trackpad swipe gestures are a core part of how you move through the system – it’s muscle memory. We thought it was important to bring that same experience into Roon, so you can now use back/forward swipe gestures to navigate through your browsing history, just as you would anywhere else on macOS. In practical terms, that means better efficiency, reduced memory usage, and a platform that gives us more room to keep improving Roon in the releases to come. You should feel that work in everyday use. RoonServer now uses memory more efficiently and returns more of it when it’s no longer needed, which is especially meaningful for larger libraries and systems with modest RAM. Browsing and sorting should also feel more responsive, with less overhead behind the scenes and more time spent doing the work you actually asked Roon to do. We’ll also be sharing a separate technical post for those of you who want a deeper look at the performance changes and the work behind them. We’re also continuing to bring Roon and ARC closer together. In this release, Focus comes to ARC, bringing one of Roon’s most powerful library tools to mobile across Albums, Artists, Tracks, Composers, and Compositions. In Roon, we addressed a regression introduced in 2.54 that could cause zones to rapidly disappear and reappear for some customers — this update restores the expected behavior. We also fixed crashes on macOS 26 (Tahoe), resolved a macOS-specific case where zones could go missing after restarting during an update, restored the back-swipe gesture on Android 16 remotes, and improved automatic port forwarding over UPnP/NAT-PMP to better handle complex or multi-NAT setups (note: this does not bypass CG-NAT). ARC also includes improvements, with reduced battery and CPU usage, restored macroscrolling in browsers, shuffle playback on CarPlay and Android Auto, and other minor fixes and polish.
