Construction

  • Lots of great new additions for Construction this week!

  • You can now move rooms!

  • You can now customize your floor on a room by room basis!

  • We've added a new 'Edit Current Room' which will edit the room you're currently standing in.

  • We've added loot beams for Player-Owned Housing trophy drops.

  • We've added new supported capes to Cape Stand system. Displayed capes should now behave the same as wearable cape with emotes, teleports and features. You'll be able to right-click the cape on its stand to get its features.

  • You can now add noted potions to the cauldron.

  • We've re-added the ability to make a cup of tea in the player owned house that boosts the player's construction level.

  • We fixed a bug where furniture pieces that were walls were being deleted when building or removing a room next to them.

  • Looking forward on the subject of Construction:

  • We're working on increasing furniture limits - these changes need to be tested and require a full engine update to ensure that the system retains a good level of performance. We're looking forward to the next Engine Update opportunity to implement these changes if possible, but that may take a little longer.

  • The Portable Workbench remains at the top of our mind, and we will share more news on it in the near future.

  • Finally, we want to conclude today's Construction changes with a note that we have so many more ideas for how to improve and expand the Player-Owned Housing system as a new reward space - and we'll be doing that throughout the future. Functional furniture especially is an area where we have a number of thoughts for things we would include in future content updates.

Mid-Game Rebalance:

  • Since the Mid-Game Rebalance launched last week, below is a list of what we've actioned during the week. Today's patch notes include further details on what we've addressed today.

  • We fixed a bug that was causing the God Wars Dungeon kill count to be reset when using the Wars Retreat portal (and similar PvM portals).

  • We fixed a bug that was causing Seals to drop in God Wars Dungeon 2 even when players were at max reputation.

  • We fixed a bug that was preventing Broad arrows and any special arrow from displaying the correct "make-x" interface

  • We fixed a bug where Demonic Skull's were only being refunded once per account, even if the player had multiple Demonic Skulls.

  • Should you have been affected by this (e.g. you had multiple skulls but only got refunded for one), please be aware that our Player Support team should already have reached out and refunded the difference to you.

  • We fixed a bug related to Shortbows, Longbows and Crossbows not providing the correct amount of components. The Junk component chance been lowered as a result of the retiering.

  • We're planning to add a boss pet override option for the Jad pet - this hasn't been done yet as the pet is missing attack and defend animations. That work will take a little longer to complete, but we didn't want to have those missing animations block us from making the change alongside the Mid-Game Rebalance.

What's happening this week:

Grand Exchange Improvements**

This week we're making some exciting upgrades to the Grand Exchange, all with one goal in mind: giving you a clearer, more accurate picture of what your items are really worth! If you've ever tried to buy or sell an item only to find its listed market price was lagging behind reality, these changes are for you. We're making market prices update faster, tweaking how often they're recalculated, and introducing a brand-new Recent Trading Price indicator that shows the average value of the last 10 trades. That means less guesswork, better insight into what's happening right now, and more confidence when you're making your next big trade.

But that's not all. We're also bringing a host of quality-of-life improvements to make trading smoother than ever. You'll be able to see exactly how much of your buy limit you've used, while completed trade data will be shared with the RuneScape Wiki to power more accurate price tracking and historical market data. Whether you're chasing profits, stocking up on supplies, or keeping a close eye on market trends, these updates are designed to make the Grand Exchange a more powerful, transparent, and useful hub for every trader in Gielinor.

Check out our blog here for all the details!

HCIM Leaderboards Update**

A few years ago a bug caused the Hardcore Iron Man Leaderboard data to become corrupted.

The Bug and Situation:

  • When (Player A) died or de-ironed, instead of the Leaderboard snapshotting their character and its associated scores on the leaderboard, it instead associated _(random Player B's) _score with (Player A's) name on the leaderboard.

  • Importantly, this predominantly affected the RuneScore and other activity Leaderboards (such as Clue Scrolls). Skill Level Leaderboards were and remain unaffected.

The bug was fixed, but the Leaderboards were unfortunately left in a still corrupted state (until now!).

The HCIM Leaderboard is currently correctly tracking anyone who is a current Iron Man or who perished (or de-iron'd) since the bug was fixed in August 2025. However, these correct entries are currently dwarfed by a large amount of corrupted data including many IronMen with inaccurate or impossible scores.

The Solution:

Recovering the data from dead and corrupted HCIM is not possible, because the data in question is a one-time snapshot that is taken at time of death or de-ironing - the exact moment at which the bug occurred. So there is no source of truth to return to.

Our next steps are as follows:

  • In the near future, we will back up the current (corrupted) HCIM Leaderboard, in case we want to refer to or replicate it in future.

  • We will then remove all corrupted HCIM data from the corrupted HCIM Leaderboard.

  • To be clear: Any player that is removed from the corrupted HCIM Leaderboard as a result of this will not have been displaying an accurate score, possibly being significantly under or above their actual score (which is not recoverable).

  • Skill Level Leaderboards will remain unaffected as these were not corrupted.

  • We will leave all valid entries on the HCIM Leaderboard (this is any HCIM who is currently alive or who died or de-iron'd after August 2025).

The result will be a once more fully accurate HCIM Leaderboard.

We're announcing these changes today, before moving to implement them in the coming weeks, as we feel this is a change that is important to signpost ahead of time.

Hello 'Scapers!

The Mid-Game Rebalance has arrived, with a strong focus on improving the mid-game experience through targeted buffs and quality-of-life upgrades. Our goal is to bring key areas of progression up to more modern standards and make the journey through the mid-game more rewarding.

Let's get into it!

**

Index:**

  • Core Fletching Re-Tier

  • Agility Rebalance

  • Divination Reblance

  • God Wars Dungeon Changes

  • General Changes

  • Drop Rate Changes

Most of this may feel familiar to some you if you already checked out our preview a few weeks back - since then we've changed the following things, so do check out the details on those below:

**

Changes since the Mid-Game Rebalance Preview:**

  • Further buffed XP for Anachronia full lap completions (details in Agility Rebalance).

  • Further buffed XP for Harmonic Dust (details in General Changes).

  • Removed negative perks from invention (details in General Changes).

  • Increased the weighting for Vannaka to offer Sanguine Crawler tasks.

  • The Artificers measure now has parity with the new Upgraded Gem bag and can be filled with Opal, Jade and Topaz gems as well as noted gems.

Core Fletching Re-Tier

The Fletching re-tier has been in the works for quite some time, and the Mid-Game Rebalance provides the perfect opportunity to finally bring it to life.

Over the years, a number of inconsistencies have appeared throughout Fletching progression. Certain weapons and ammunition have level requirements that don't align with similarly powerful equipment found elsewhere in the game, while some level bands contain noticeable gaps or confusing progression paths. Some of these issues have also emerged as a result of previous Woodcutting tiering changes.

This update aims to address the majority of those inconsistencies, creating a more logical and intuitive progression path for both Fletching and Ranged combat. By aligning item requirements more closely with their power, filling progression gaps, and improving consistency across level bands, we want the journey from early levels through to 99 and beyond to feel smoother, easier to understand, and more rewarding.

It's important to note that this update focuses on re-tiering the core Fletching skill rather than overhauling it entirely. As a result, not every Fletching item has been revisited as part of this project. Darts, knives, and javelins will remain unchanged for now.

Given their relatively low usage in the current game, we felt comfortable prioritising other areas of Fletching progression for this update. However, we're keen to revisit these items in the future as part of a broader review of their role and relevance within RuneScape's combat and skilling ecosystems.

Summary of Changes
  • Retiered existing Shortbows, Longbows, Crossbows and 2h Crossbows

  • Yew shortbows and longbows are retiered to level 70 and, as a result, have become members only items. Free-to-play players will still have level 40 and 50 Ranged options through Maple and Acadia bows.

  • Added in additional Shortbows, Longbows, Crossbows and 2h Crossbows to fill in holes in the leveling.

  • Shieldbows are being retired and replaced wholesale with their equivalent tier Longbows.

  • Our data indicates that shieldbows have been left in such an awkward space that their usage is incredibly low, meaning that they actually add bloat and inconsistency to the game. By replacing them with Longbows we expect the choice of bow to be made easier and less confusing for players.

  • The primary reason for this change is because shieldbows have acted as a bit of a trap to newer players who are fletching them without realising that they deal vastly reduced damage compared to an equivalent shortbow, despite them having a higher fletching requirement.

  • All current shieldbows gain +1 range when converted to longbows.

  • The Strykebow remain as a shieldbow.

  • Standardised metal usage in Crossbow creation.

  • Drop tables and shop inventory containing items that have been retiered, where appropriate, are replaced with the new item for that range level instead.

  • Achievements and quests are adjusted where needed to account for these retiering changes.

  • Added in missing tiers of Arrows & Bolts (Orikalkum → Elder Rune)

  • Bane ammunition has been changed from having its own special creation methods to be unified with regular arrows and bolts.

  • Tune Bane Ore can be cast on bane bolts/arrows, rather than banite ore or banite rock, to enchant them into Abyssal/Basilisk/Dragon/Wallasalkibane bolts/arrows.

  • Tune Bane Ore can still be cast on Dinarrows to enchant them into Jas Demonbane arrows.

  • Primal ammunition has also been unified to be created in the same way as regular arrows and bolts.

  • Unf bolts are created by bars and feathered like regular bolts.

  • Primal bolts are made in increments of 50 Unf bolts per bar, bringing them in line with all other bolt creation quantities

  • The bolt and arrow proficiency leveling benefits have been removed, but their XP when you first unlock them has a higher baseline.

Agility Rebalance**

Following the Early-Game Rebalance, we're revisiting Agility courses all the way to level 99. These changes focus on creating a more consistent progression curve across the skill, with most courses receiving substantial XP-per-hour increases to make training feel smoother, more rewarding, and better balanced at every level.

Divination Rebalance

We're making changes to Divination as part of our ongoing effort to improve progression throughout the game. Rather than directly increasing XP rates, these changes focus on making energy gathering feel more consistent as you level up, avoiding situations where unlocking a new energy type can feel slower or less effective than what came before.

As a general rule, we're aiming for players to have around a 70% success rate when they first unlock a new energy type, helping new unlocks feel rewarding from the moment they're available.

The changes below show the average increase to your chance of gathering each type of energy across its level range. Players will see the biggest benefits when they first unlock a new energy type, with the bonus gradually settling into its long-term value as they continue training.

For example, a player unlocking Gleaming energy at level 50 would previously have had around a 64.9% chance to successfully gather energy. With this update, that increases to 70%, and continues to improve as their Divination level rises. Over time, this works out to an average increase of around 4% across the level band, helping to smooth out the gathering experience while providing a small boost to XP rates through more consistent successful gathers.

The values below show the average increase to your energy gathering success rate across each energy type's level range. New unlocks will receive a larger boost initially before settling to these long-term values.

God Wars Dungeon Changes:

We're making some changes to God Wars Dungeon 1, which can currently feel overly punishing for players entering the mid-game. While the experience improves as your account progresses, taking your first steps into the dungeon can be slower and more challenging than intended. These updates aim to make that initial experience smoother and more enjoyable.

  • To make repeat trips to God Wars Dungeon 1 less frustrating, killcount now works similarly to God Wars Dungeon 2. Your killcount is no longer lost when leaving the dungeon, allowing you to build and maintain it across multiple visits.

  • To balance this change, killcount is now be capped at 200.

  • With these updates in place, the Omni Soulstone and the Armadylean, Bandosian, Saradominist, and Zamorakian Soulstones have been removed, as they are no longer needed to support the killcount system.

We're also making some changes to** **God Wars Dungeon 2. While the Reputation system was designed to reward long-term engagement, it currently takes too long to unlock its full benefits, with many players progressing beyond the dungeon before reaching maximum drop rates. These changes aim to make the rewards more accessible and the overall progression feel more worthwhile:

  • Maximum reputation has been reduced from 5,000 to 2,000, with all reputation rewards rescaled to match the new progression curve.

  • Drop-rate unlocks have been removed from the Reputation system. All players now benefit from the highest available drop rates from the moment they start tackling God Wars Dungeon 2 bosses, removing the need to grind reputation before accessing the dungeon's best rewards.

  • Reputation can still be earned to unlock its associated rewards, but it should now feel like a natural bonus earned through gameplay rather than a prerequisite for efficient bossing.

  • As part of these changes, the "The Venerated" title has been moved down one reward tier, making it available earlier in the reputation journey.

General Changes:
  • Demonic Skull

  • The Demonic Skull was originally introduced as a risk-versus-reward mechanic, but we feel its role in the game is no longer meaningful. Following feedback and a review of its place in modern RuneScape, we're removing the item with this update.

  • The Demonic Skull is no longer be obtainable, and any players who own one when the update launches should receive a full refund of its purchase cost.

  • Invention Perks

  • Invention can be a difficult skill to get into, particularly for newer players. One of the biggest pain points is the number of negative perks that can appear on gizmos, making progression feel punishing and discouraging experimentation. To make the skill more approachable and reduce unnecessary frustration, we're removing the following perks entirely:

  • Antitheism

  • Profane

  • Inaccurate

  • Junk Food

  • Undead Bait

  • Demon Bait

  • Dragon Bait

  • Cautious

  • Mediocrity

  • Fatiguing

  • Committed

  • Butterfingers

  • Blunted

  • Cheapskate

  • Confused

  • Any existing gizmos or augmented items containing these perks have had the affected perk removed automatically.

  • Dive Ability

  • This ability is currently locked behind the "Succession" Quest, which requires 60 Mining and 60 Smithing to complete. These requirements feel out of step with the ability itself, creating an unnecessary progression barrier and making the unlock path feel inconsistent.

  • To better align the ability with its intended use, it no longer require completion of Succession and instead is unlocked naturally at 30 Agility.

  • Red and Crystal Sandstone

  • We've heard your feedback on sandstone mining, and we agree that it still feels slower than we'd like. With flask prices continuing to rise, we think it's the right time to make gathering sandstone quicker and more rewarding.

  • To help with this, we've reduced the hitpoints of all sandstone rocks by 50, allowing them to be mined more quickly.

  • We're also giving an additional boost to the higher-tier sandstone sources. Sophanem Red Sandstone (unlocked through the Elite Desert Tasks) and Meilyr Crystal Sandstone (found in the Edimmu Resource Dungeon) have had their hitpoints reduced by a further 50, making these premium sources even faster to gather from.

  • Harmonium Harps

  • With the removal of the Travelling Merchant, we've seen feedback that obtaining Harmonic Dust now feels more time-consuming than intended. To help offset this and keep progression towards crystal tools and equipment feeling reasonable, we're increasing the rate at which Harmonic Dust is earned from harps.

  • Harmonic Dust gained from harps has been increased by 40%. This should make gathering Harmonic Dust feel significantly less grindy while preserving it as a meaningful long-term goal.

  • Instances

  • Instance costs are being removed from all boss encounters. These fees no longer provide meaningful gameplay value and can act as an unnecessary barrier, particularly for playe

Welcome Home

For nearly two decades, Player-Owned Housing has been a part of the RuneScape journey.

It's where many of us built our first virtual homes (way before we knew what the heck a mortgage is), proudly showed off our achievements, hosted house parties with friends and spent far too much time figuring out where to put that next portal. It was our corner of Gielinor. A place that was uniquely ours!

But as RuneScape continued to grow, Player-Owned Housing remained largely unchanged. The fantasy of building and customising your own home has always been there, but the tools available to bring that vision to life haven't kept pace with the game around it.

Well... that changes TODAY!

Today, we're excited to share the next chapter of Player-Owned Housing and Construction. This isn't just an update to an already existing feature. It's a complete reimagining of one of RuneScape's most iconic systems, rebuilt from the ground up to give you more freedom, more creativity, more progression and more reasons than EVER to call this little plot of land your home! And better yet, just like our Dungeoneering overhaul, this rework is intended to set a foundation that can enable both the Player-Owned-House and the Construction skill to continue to develop and expand in future.

Whether you're dreaming of a cosy cottage tucked away from the world, a huge mansion filled with all the trophies you've collected on your adventures, or a bustling Homestead shared with your friends, this update is designed to help you create a space that reflects your journey.

Welcome home!

What's New and Why We're So Excited

Let's start with the easiest of questions: Who is this update for?

The answer is simple: everyone.

  • The PvMer preparing for another trip to Amascut.

  • The clue hunters looking for simple destination teleporting without the baggage of too many objects.

  • The collector with years of trophies and keepsakes waiting to be displayed.

  • The social player planning their next house party with friends.

  • And the architect who simply wants to build the home they've always dreamed of.

  • No matter how you play RuneScape, there's a place for you to call home.

Our video above and our blog below will go into much more detail, but here's a tl;dr preview what's waiting for you:

  • Build and decorate with over 650 pieces of furniture and decoration.

  • Place furniture freely and create layouts that are uniquely yours.

  • Showcase your adventures with trophy rooms, collectables and displays earned throughout your journey.

  • Find a home for all those items you've been hoarding for years..!

  • Craft prestigious Eternal furniture and create your dream home like never before.

  • Create a Homestead with up to five players and build a thriving community together.

  • Take Construction all the way to level 120 with a brand-new progression journey and furniture crafting system.

  • The free-to-play level cap is being raised to level 20.

Build the Home You've Always Wanted

Every great home starts with an idea. At the heart of the new Player-Owned Housing experience is the freedom to make it your own, and the first time you step into Build Mode, you'll immediately notice something significant has changed...

In total, you'll have access to or be able to unlock:

  • 5 house exterior styles

  • 12 room shapes

  • Over 650 pieces of furniture and decorations

  • Free furniture placement

  • Updated classics and brand new additions

Now let's dive into the details of what the above actually means!

Room placement

Let's start with room placement. As you progress through the Construction skill you'll unlock larger rooms, and more interesting shapes. Much like the original system, rooms will cost coins to place.

Build Mode offers two ways to add a room.

In the first instance, simply click on an existing doorway in your home and select "Add Room". If there's enough space, your new room will connect seamlessly to your house!

The second option places the entire room at your fingertips. Literally! Move your selected room shape into your chosen position, give it a few rotations to ensure you're happy and then click to commit!

**Customize your room's entry spaces or hide them entirely! **

Another change coming to the new build system is the ability to customise your doorway spaces. You can choose between an "open doorway", a "filled in wall", or a "wall with a window" to let all that sunshine in!

Furniture placement

Gone are they days of having a specific room like 'Quest Hall', or 'Workshop' where you were limited to a specific piece of furniture in a very specific spot. We've also said farewell to the constrictions of building a piece of furniture and having to completely delete it if you weren't happy with it's placement.

Now, furniture you've crafted and collected can be stored in the Furniture Storage system found in Rimmington. Once furniture is stored here, it can be easily accessed in Construction's Build Mode, ready for placement. Think of this like a dedicated inventory for your Player-Owned House!

Enhanced Controls

With all the new systems being implemented we of course needed to overhaul the way you control them!

You'll be able to manipulate the position of both full rooms and pieces of furniture using your mouse controls and keyboard. Once you're happy, just click to commit. And if you do change your mind, simply pick the piece up, reposition, and place it down again.

Alternatively, if you're wanting to start over fresh, you can enter the remove furniture mode that will return any furniture you click back to your storage for use again later. Simples!

For years, housing has offered players a place to call their own, but there were always limits to what you could build. This reimagined system gives you far more control over how your home looks, feels and essentially functions, allowing you to build a space that's truly yours.

Whether you're carefully recreating your dream home, designing the perfect social grounds for your friends and clan or experimenting with your layouts in a way that would make our RuneScape Estate agents weep, the choice is entirely yours!

The result is a Player-Owned House that feels unmistakably RuneScape, while giving you more freedom than ever before to make it your own.

Proudly display your journey

The most important things in your house won't just be the walls, the furniture or even that Bob the Cat rug you love so much.

Each item will have a story.

For years, adventurers across Gielinor have been collecting rare rewards, earning those capes, defeating bosses, completing age-old quest lines and uncovering hidden collectables along the way. Until now, many of those memories lived in your bank tabs, achievement interfaces or tucked away in some storage.

With your new Player-Owned House, your accomplishments finally have a place to belong!

Create trophy rooms filled with all your greatest victories, proudly display your hard-earned collections and turn your home into a reflection of the adventures you've had through RuneScape.

A House You'll Actually Use

Player-Owned Housing has always had its uses. A handy teleport here, an altar there, and then off you went on your next adventure.

With this reimagining, your home becomes so much more.

Designed around the way players actually play RuneScape today, your house can become a hub for planning and preparing before setting off.

Travel across Gielinor with additional teleport options, prepare for your next PVM with specialist utility furniture and finally find somewhere to put all that stuff you've been hoarding.

For the first time, your house isn't just somewhere you occasionally visit. It's a meaningful part of your RuneScape journey. A place to prepare, regroup, organise and return to time and time again. Below are just a few examples of the functional furniture you can look forward to!

Examples of New Utility:
  • Potion Cauldron

  • Each cauldron can store on timed potion type at a time, up to 250 doses. Non-timer potions cannot be added to the cauldron.

  • Drinking from the cauldron acts as drinking a normal single-dose drink and, where applicable, a larger multi-dose drink option.

  • Up to 5 cauldrons can be placed on your plot.

  • Upgrading your cauldron tier can increase the potion timer duration.

  • Jewellery box

  • The Jewellery Box stores your teleport jewellery (think: games, glory, wealth etc.)

  • Depending on the tier of Jewellery Box, you'll be able to use it to quick-teleport to various jewellery destinations.

A quick note on Damaged Artefact storage - In an earlier blog on Player-Owned Housing, we mentioned some of the functional furniture we’d like to introduce with this update. One of the most requested additions was Damaged Artefact Storage, aimed at helping players free up valuable bank space. Head over to our regular update blog to find out what's happening with that.

Create or join a Homestead with other players

Another very exciting addition coming to Player-Owned Housing is the introduction of Homesteads.

Create or join a Homestead with up to five players and build a thriving community together. Move seamlessly between homes, make use of each other's facilities and create something far bigger than any one house could be on its own!

Fancy showing off your latest creation? Visit public Homesteads, explore other players' designs and take inspiration from homes across Gielinor.

Or, if we're being honest, just be incredibly nosy.

And because visitor numbers aren't restricted, we're incredibly excited to see what happens when house parties make their return!

For the first time, your house doesn't just reflect your own journey. It becomes part of a living community. Your community.

Construction Reimagined

Of course, none of this happens overnight.

Everything you've seen so far is powered by a completely reimagined Construction skill, that is not just expanding all the way to level 120, but is being completely reimagined from the ground up.

Progressing through construction will now generally mean unlocking new furniture, new utility features, new customisation options and new opportunities to grow your home.

The traditional build-and-destroy training loop has been replaced with a brand-new furniture crafting system designed to make every level feel rewarding.

As mentioned above, everything you construct will be added to your Furniture Storage system. However, those furniture items will require recipes to be craftable. You'll discover new recipes through levelling, questing and exploration across Gielinor, providing you with expanding opportunities to experiment as your home grows.

And yes, for those looking to push their craftsmanship even further, you'll be able to create Eternal furniture, taking your building aspirations beyond Mahogany and into entirely new territory.

Player-Owned Housing has been built to grow alongside RuneScape. As new adventures, rewards and content arrive across Gielinor, we'll continue expanding the system with new furniture, decorations and ways to personalise your home.

Getting Started and Returning to your House

Never built a Player-Owned House before? Don't worry, we've got you covered 😉

Every player, whether you're stepping into Player-Owned Housing for the very first time or returning to redo a home you built years ago, will begin their journey with a brand new introductory quest: There's No Place Like Home...

This short tutorial experience will guide you through the basics of Player-Owned Housing, teaching you how to place and remove furniture, build new rooms and start bringing your dream home to life.

By the end of your journey, you'll have your very own house, a handful of starter supplies and everything you need to begin building your corner of Gielinor.

That is, of course, just the beginning though!

Getting to your house with ease is an important part of what sets it's foundation as a place to return to. With that in mind, after you've completed the '**There's No Place Like Home' quest **and reached level 50 Construction, your Teleport to House spell becomes free to cast, offering you unlimited access.

House portals have taken on a mechanical refresh too! Rather than specify your preference for which portal you want to access your home from, you'll instead be able to teleport to your home through any of the House portals scattered across the world, providing you have the associated Construction level needed to use it.

'If you can access them from anywhere, surely we can exit to anywhere?' - Correct! On your house exit portal, you'll find a new option; 'Exit to another portal' which will allow you to pop out at any of the house portals across Gielinor, providing you have the associated requirements shown above.

You'll still be able to pick a preferred house portal to arrive at, as well as deciding if your Teleport to House spell or tablets will place you inside or outside your house. Whilst we were tinkering with means of access, we also included a bit of QoL by added the ability to land inside or outside your house when using "Teleport to house" tablets.

What's happening with your old home

Of course, you will be wondering what's happening to your old Player-Owned House, especially if you've invested a lot of resources and furniture into it.

The gobbos came in the dark of night and carried it away brick by brick. Probably.

Either way, its walls have been folded in. However, any furniture that was pr

A Note of Phishing (The bad kind)**

We’ve had a few reports of some players being phished out of their accounts.

As always, bad actors are always cooking up new tricks. We've heard of a new few ones including fake P-Mod application forms asking for login details and illegitimate Jagex Launcher downloads hosted on other websites.

This is a quick reminder to stay safe out there and think twice before entering sensitive details or downloading anything advertised as relative to RuneScape.

There are no P-Mod Application forms, and anything you download for RuneScape must be a subdomain of Jagex.com or RuneScape.com to be considered safe. Always download anything directly through our website or Launcher – nowhere else.

Some rules we always recommend:

  • Don't click suspicious links or download unknown files.

  • Jagex will never ask for your password or verification codes via email or messages. Never give away credentials that could be used to access your account.

  • Use your browser's phishing filters.

You can find out more about phishing on our Support Centre.

Latest Avatar News:**

  • Todays update includes fixes for about 18 outstanding issues related to the Player Avatar. While work still continues, we've today addressed instances of missing skin, incorrect or washed out colours, Npcs missing their chatheads, stretching issues and clipping issues. The Max and Comp Capes should now also be a little less floaty and a bit more snug and attached.

  • We addressed issues with some animations, specifically making sure you no longer look quite so wonky or unhinged during Party Fever Walk, Shrug and Parasol Idle.

  • We also resolved issues with 16 animal masks that are obtainable from clue scrolls (so you should no longer randomly have a bald held when wearing them).

  • Finally, we are in the process of spinning up a new system to have unique female and male chathead animations. This will in turn allow us to improve the female chathead and push this much closer to the mesh seen on the body.

  • Just to recap our previous prioritization of work:

  • Focus on fixing Critical Bugs and known issues.

  • Finish off the outstanding work to bring all items in line with the new Avatar. That includes ensuring none of the old Avatar skin is present on worn items.

  • Consider which modifications to Avatar faces or body proportions are necessary and possible based on evolving community feedback.

A Farewell to Mod Stu

We very recently bid a fond farewell to Mod Stu - As such and iconic and long-standing member of the team, we felt it was only right to dedicate some space in todays blog to sharing Mod Stu's goodbye message:

Greetings, fellow players. After nearly 20 years developing content at Jagex and 14 contributing to RuneScape, the time has finally come to leave a team and community I cherish very much and move onto the next chapter in my life.

A highlight has been our shift to open communication, engaging directly with you about our updates. Your feedback shapes our designs, and your passion has deepened my understanding of RuneScape's devoted community and diverse needs. Your deep conversations, shared stories and even getting to meet some of you in person has made this 'job' a personal experience and labour of love.

Some of my favourite updates over the years have been getting to:

  • inherit TzHaar curatorship ("the T is silent") and complete the Ga'al story with my first RuneScape quest, "The Brink of Extinction"

  • name the second Elder God

  • develop "The Death of Chivalry", "Dimension of Disaster" and Davendale with Mod Osborne

  • finish the Myreque quest series with Mod Rowley and Mod Orion

  • rework Shield of Arrav and Imp Catcher and Sheep Shearer and Demon Slayer (again)

  • make Prif a thing

  • make the Arc a thing

  • make flying metal dragons a thing

  • make Stutorials a thing

  • make Fletching and the Player Owned House and a whole lot more F2P

  • make Excalibur not so shouty

  • get master trimmed completionist cape

  • extend the lore in Memorial to Guthix in ways we're still paying off a decade later

  • finish the Mining & Smithing rework

  • finish Fern's story after Battle of the Monolith

  • tell you all how to pronounce vis wax ('vis'-to-rhyme-with-'fleece'; blame Latin)

  • giggle like children throughout 'Accidental' Fletching & Firemaking (alternate title: "Bill & Ben's Effluent Egg Venture") with Mod Abe

  • assist Mod Raven in his musical swan song and I'm not sorry

  • add XP blocking and minor resets for skill pures

  • put tooltips on worldmap resources

  • name "Requiem for a Dragon"

  • be the least convincing Ozan ever

  • declutter Lumbridge

  • fix Camelot

  • fix Christmas and tell my most personal story with "Cold Front"

  • fix things you'll never notice but felt really good in the Dungeoneering remaster

  • fix more things that may or may not ship with Leagues but we'll see

  • dramatically voice so many behind the scenes videos

  • RuneFest

  • examines (and I shall not elaborate)

  • fly some particularly questionable achievement names under the radar

  • do countless things to quest systems and quest data and tutorials and early game and achievements that you probably don't remember but you'd probably miss if they were gone

I could spend hours talking about every update I've worked on and what they've meant to me, and showering praise on my talented collaborators that made it possible. There are so many things I wish I could stay and do and give to you, because RuneScape is never done. So with a whole lot of love and a measure of wistfulness, I hand the torch to my fellow designers and the weird and wonderful people of Jagex, whose talent and hard work and ambition and playfulness will keep bringing you more of the RuneScape you love.

Quest complete, Mod Stu

A note on Tuesday Maintenance

Since February both RuneScape and Old School RuneScape have been running an additional maintenance on Tuesdays as part of our ongoing work to improve the infrastructure and core experience of our games, these maintenance will continue but we are adding in an additional small step.

Alongside taking down the worlds for 20-30 mins for this maintenance we will be keeping a handful of worlds offline for an additional 30 mins.

This should have minimal impact on regular playing as you will still be able to access a plethora of worlds once the maintenance is complete but you may notice a few worlds missing from the world list.

Before we continue, let's clear up what is a "Player Avatar"? In short, the Player Avatar is you or, more accurately, your character in Gielinor. It's the character beneath the armour that you created when you first started your account.

Those foundational customization choices such as gender, hairstyle, top, legs, shoes, and facial hair, along with the colour options available for each, are what make up your Avatar. These core appearance options are the focus of today's update.

Handsome fellow, right? So, when we talk about the Player Avatar, we're talking about your character's baseline appearance, the foundation that everything else is built upon. Your adventures, achievements, and personal story all sit on top of this representation. But beneath it all is your new Avatar!

Over the years, RuneScape has featured a variety of player avatars, from 2D sprites to fully 3D characters. Each was a product of the technology and game engine available at the time. In 2021, we began work on the Player Avatar Refresh project, with the goal of taking the next step forward. After weeks of community consultation, livestreams, and collaboration with players to develop a remastered visual style that felt true to RuneScape, we encountered a significant obstacle: technical limitations.

The underlying systems simply weren't ready to support the changes we wanted to make. As a result, the project was put on the infamous shelf. While it may have seemed dormant from the outside, behind the scenes our technical teams continued laying the groundwork, building the tools and systems needed to make a future Avatar refresh possible.

Now, we're ready to get this modern, grounded avatar into your hands today!

Today's Release:

The Player Avatar is a gargantuan project that touches a wide variety of systems. It isn’t just your character, it also affects NPCs throughout the world as well as armour sets, outfits and cosmetics, the wardrobe system, chat systems, and much more. In fact, you’d be hard pressed to find an area of the game that isn’t impacted in some way.

Today's update lay's the foundations with a new base avatar, updated hairstyles and facial hair options. When you login today you should slip into your new shape with minimal friction as most outfits and armour have been updated to work with the new avatar! If you do encounter anything unexpected, please check out the known issues section below.

New Base Avatar

The star of the show, the base avatar has been updated to a new modernized standard whilst maintaining elements of the RuneScape style. So, new torso, arms, hands, legs, feet and of course face!

With the face being updated we have also updated the chathead (which is actually a separate model) so your conversations will now be in higher definition!

Additionally, several pieces of the base outfit kit you choose from during character creation or at Thessalia's shop have been updated, while others have been tweaked to fit this new body - your preferred style should still be available to you!

Updated Hairstyles

With a fresh face we definitely needed some fresh cuts and so we have updated 46 Female hairstyles & 37 Male hairstyles to fit this new head, including tons of your favourite styles!

And that's not all the styles!

Legacy Hairstyles

You'll notice that some hairstyles are part of a new "Legacy hairstyles" category. Originally we had planned to remove some older and less used styles as part of this update, but after further investigation and insights from the beta we decided that keeping all available styles of hair is the better outcome. This did mean that we had to make a decision on which ones to focus on first.

The 31 Female & 26 Male "Legacy" hairstyles have been tweaked to fit the new player head, but they will get updated over time to the same standard as the updated hairstyles, so fret not - your favourite hairstyle is still available to you!

And that's not all for hair!

Beards

Can't forget the face warmer: 22 Beards will be available to choose from with 4 of them being Legacy Beards. These Legacy beards will be updated in the future in the same way as the previously mentioned hairstyles.

List of Known Issues

Our diligent artists and developers have been hard at work setting every hair in place and cleaning up clipping issues for weeks now but there are bound to be some issues with an update that covers such a wide swath of the game as this.

To that end we have compiled a general list below of several issues we are already in the process of resolving during the weeks following this launch.

While we have endeavoured to update every single piece of clothing in the game, as we mentioned in our initial introduction to the Player Avatar Refresh, ungrafting the skin from every item has been a complicated and lengthy process and there are still a small handful of remaining items that require updating.

Our approach has been to prioritize the most commonly worn and used items first, so the outstanding items are generally only worn by a handful of players each. These outstanding items constitute a very small percentage of worn outfits from the past month. While you may encounter such an item and it may not feel like it's working as intended with the new avatar, please rest assured that they will be iteratively updated over the next few weeks.

Beyond those items, there are a few outstanding bits noted below that you may encounter today, but we are already aware of them and are looking to address them as soon as possible:

  • Some heads, torsos, legs, hands and feet items will still be displaying the old avatar skin and may look out of place (explained above).

  • Certain items may encounter clipping issues, especially with Tiaras or ‘legacy’ customisations (old style customisation but new avatar).

  • Clipping is a visual bug that occurs when two textures pass through each other in a way that is not realistically possible. An example of clipping would be a hair texture poking through the solid top of a hat.

  • The flip-side of clipping is when you can see gaps between joins so that items feel unconnected or floaty. You may encounter this on a certain number of items.

  • Heads in interfaces and speech may have bugs (chat heads).

  • Some clothes or limbs may appear stretched or at awkward angles.

  • Some NPCs may be missing parts of their heads.

  • The photobooth, which is used to reflect your in-game avatar's face onto our website, has been temporarily disabled, while we proceed with work to integrate the new avatar code into the website.

We will be monitoring this update for any and all reports of issues but if you encounter any egregious issues that are not mentioned above, the most helpful way to support us is to use the in-game report bug functionality.

In-game reports take a snapshot of your account at the time of the report (both on a code but also on a visual level), giving our team tons of very useful information to help with assessing your report right away. This report feature should be your first port of call when you encounter an issue you want to report. It is also incredibly simple to do.

  1. Open your options menu by pressing Esc. Then select the "Report Issue" button in the bottom left.

  2. Choose "Report a Bug" in the menu that appears

  3. Choose the category that best suits your report (Likely to be "Graphical" in this instance)

  4. Write up your issue!

Done and dusted, this will send your report and associated information to our triaging team, which will massively assist them with zeroing in on your issue and getting it resolved sooner!

Should you not wish to use the in game functionality, you can also use the bug report form on the official RuneScape Discord #bug-report-form. This won't be as in depth as the in game version but will still be of assistance to us. Alternatively, you can also use this form to report Avatar related bugs.

What's next?

This year is flying in, we are already into June and making great progress on the Road to Restoration with even more great updates to come. The Player Avatar Refresh has been a long-running project and today it delivers a bright new face as we look forward to seeing all of your in game in your brand new look!

Last week we launched a significant update to our engine in preparation to support the upcoming Player Avatar launch on June 8th, as part of this update our team has been monitoring reports of graphical issues and we have seen three particular areas of issues crop up.

  • AMD Graphic Cards on the latest set of drivers have been having rendering issues causing things like missing textures/blank areas. This issue arose in the last few weeks with the launch of the latest AMD drivers and our update last Monday has just brought this into frame for more players.

  • This issue is currently resolved by rolling back your graphic drivers to a more stable previous patch.

  • We are currently investigating this from our side to reduce future complications but whenever there is a new set of graphic drivers there is always the potential for a mismatch.

  • We have also recieved reports from MAC OS users of similar missing texture and graphical issues occurring. Our team has been diving into these reports all week and the common element is the use of Intel integrated GPU and the team is working on a fix

  • Other users have reported stuttering or framerates hitching especially when transitioning to regions such as going from the overworld to a cave system and this is further noticeable for users who hide the loading screens. We currently investigating a solution to this issue but there is not a current ETA on a release.

We will continue to monitor this update but if you have been running into any graphical issues please contiunue to report them via the in game report feature as this helps us gather up your computer specs which help immensely with these investigations.

  • We will be sharing June's Month Ahead later today be on the lookout for that!

  • We are running a Quarterly Survey currently! You can find it in the lobby, head on over when you next login and help us shape the future of RuneScape!

  • Mod Anvil and Mod Ryan will be sharing a lookback at April and what May has in store for you this Thursday, April 30th.

In Case You Missed It + Our Reactions to Last Week:
  • Last week we released a few Game Jam quality of life projects, including (but not limited to!) Boss Enrage Mechanics Update and Quiet World smarthopping.

  • We also ran a rollback on April 20th, which affected a couple hours of player playtime. Find out more about that here.

  • We shared some insights from the recent quarterly check-in Survey as well as some Double XP Event details. Read the blog post here!

  • Finally, we shared progress on how our Player Avatar is coming along as well as some details about the upcoming Player Avatar Beta. Find out more here!

Patch Notes:
  • Improved Necromancy Conjure's so that players are unable to target them anymore making it easier to traverse and use movement skills.

  • Additionally they are now lower in the visibility order so NPCs will appear on top of them if they are on the same square.

  • Reduced the length of the Conjured Zombies particle trail and updated SFX when the zombie is summoned and walking around.

  • Residual Soul stacks are now only visible to yourself, no longer do you need to see how many souls your fellow Necromancers are working with.

  • Similarly, they also now hide when unequipping a lantern and reappear when equipping one. This should help cut down on UI elements in combat with friends!

  • The HP and Prayer boosted buffs have been removed from the buff bar, these very common buffs were taking up valuable real estate while being something players could easily see elsewhere in their UI.

  • We have kept the negative version of these effects though as it's useful for specific bits of content (Magister / Zuk).

  • Transformed the Tile Indicator visual to be a square instead of a circle, this should help clearly show which tile you're moving towards along with showing an enemies size.

  • The blinding pillar of light from the Scripture of Wen has been revamped into a more subtle visual and sound effect.

  • Updated the size of the Aftershock VFX to be less obtrusive and visually cluttering. The SFX have also been updated to match.

  • The size of the Incite Fear VFX has been reduced to be less obtrusive and the SFX has been updated to match.

  • The Sapphire and Opal Aurora spells have been tweaked to reduce the amount of VFX, additionally the visual effects when used with the Prism Spells have been revamped to be less intrusive.

  • Improved readability of where Yakamaru's Poison attack will land.

  • AOD Minions are shown in the order they are killed below the boss health bar, they are ordered from left to right.

  • Reduced the size of the VFX related to the Boon of Apmeken.

  • The size of the trail left behind by Dive/Escape and Surge cosmetic effects has been reduced to improve visibility.

  • Improved the clarity and visibility of the Lumberjack's Intuition when chopping Eternal Magic Trees.

Game Jam Projects

A handful of Game Jam projects have made it through the pipeline and are now live in the game today!

Boss Enrage Mechanics Update

With the release of Amascut we had created a Boss with a smoother enrage experience and many players have requested we show the same love to previous enrage bosses, and now it’s finally here.

Mod Pigeon and Mod Reaper have been hard at work getting this one wrapped up but now Enrage choosing has now been unlocked for the following encounters:

  • Telos

  • Arch-Glacor

  • Zamorak, Lord of Chaos

Players can now start at any enrage level they choose, all the way up to the fabled 4,000%.

 []({STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/38802315/135027abf6851296c25f15123ef211c89c291c29.png)

Zamorak due to going to 60,000 enrage works a little differently as to respect the time and achievements of our most dedicated Zamorak players, the Zamorak encounter will initially allow entry up to 4,000% enrage only.

Then once you have bested 4,000%, you will be able to push beyond that threshold with each successful Zamorak kill at your highest enrage above 4,000% now increasing enrage by 100% increments (up from 10%).

Quiet World smarthop

Been on the hunt for a slayer drop but keep running into cannons and coils? Well Mod Samy & Easty has been working on a smart hop feature to help players find a quieter world when looking for a chill grind spot, this feature will suggest quieter worlds for the spot you are in and make hopping easier.

Boss Portal Sorting

Mod Helen popped the hood on the Boss portal system to do some dev side stuff that will make it easier to work on in the future and while she was at it installed a sorting system so that players can choose how the list is ordered to help find the best you seek! By default it's set to Chronological (Old → New) which is the current style but you can also now reverse this and sort it alphabetically! This affects both the War's Retreat & Max Guild portals.

Potion Reservoir Device status

And as a bonus Mod Helen has also retrofitted the Potion Reservoir with a Device status so players can know if it's doing its job at a quick glance.

Upgrading the Rune Pouch capacity

Ever since the addition of the Necromancy Nexus, players have asked for the same rune capacity to be added to the existing Rune Pouches and Mod Desert has done just that! Took a little elbow grease but you should now be able to store up to 2,147,483,647 of a type in your pouches!

General

Dev note - In order to lean the core of magic a little closer to the critical strike identity, we're baking some extra effects into Wild Magic and Asphyxiate. The Asphyxiate buff essentially acts as a buff for all players without the Tumeken's Resplendance gear, adding some extra value to Asphyxiate and solidifying the critical strike identity. The Wild Magic buff simply adds some more identity to the style whilst adding a bit of power back into magic throughout.

  • Asphyxiate has had its base damage increased from 120% -> 130%

  • Tumeken's Replendance Asphyxiate Ratio has been adjusted and remains at 624% for the full cast

  • Channelling a full Apshyxiate now grants Channelled Might for 3.6s

  • This grants 15 % critical strike damage during that 3.6s

  • Channelling a full Apshyxiate with the full Tumeken's Resplendence set grants Channelled Might for 9s (Unchanged)

  • This grants 35 % critical strike damage during that 9s (Unchanged)

  • Wild Magic now has +20% critical strike damage and +10% critical strike chance

  • The Equilibrium perk can now be obtained at rank 1 and 2 from Manufactured components

  • With access to the lower ranks of these perks being now much more obtainable we have rebalanced the scaling to be 6% +2% per rank (8%/10%/12%/14%)

  • Fixed an issue that prevented locators from being created due to Divine Locations being removed from the game.

  • The following locators can now be crafted from a variety of different ingredients: inferior, poor, good and superior.

  • Removed references to the Wilderness Flash Events from the Infernal Puzzle Box.

  • Removed a reference to 'Rune Goldberg machine' in the runecrafting skillguide for the 'skill mastery' perk description.

Havenhythe Out Now

A brand new landmass arrives in RuneScape today! Welcome to Havenhythe.

Found to the east of Morytania, Havenhythe is a quiet and mysterious place with a long history behind it. Once home to ancient civilisations, strange magic, and stories long forgotten, the island has mostly been left to time.

Your journey begins with a vision when you visit the Rusty Anchor in Port Sarim. A warning of something stirring beyond the sea. Before long you will find yourself setting sail to see what is really waiting there.

Havenhythe marks the beginning of a brand new story that will unfold across the year. It's also a chance for us to lean back into something that sits right at the heart of RuneScape. Exploration, strange characters, smaller grounded adventures, and plenty of things for players to discover for themselves.

If you prefer to go in and explore by yourself with as little information as possible, stop here and jump into the game. If you're keen to see what you can expect, read on!

Whether you are here for the story, skilling, exploration or combat, Havenhythe is built to feel like a place you return to throughout your journey.

What is Havenhythe?

Havenhythe is designed to feel like a natural part of Gielinor. The goal is not to create a piece of content you complete once and move on from. Instead it's a place that becomes part of your journey through the world.

Think of places like Varrock or Falador. Locations you return to again and again as your adventure continues.

This first release lays the foundations for the island. Over time Havenhythe will continue to grow as more stories, activities and discoveries are added throughout the year. It's also been built with space in mind, so as RuneScape continues to evolve, Havenhythe can grow alongside it without feeling crowded or boxed in.

For now, your journey begins with a small village on the coast.

Welcome to Wendlewick

Your first stop in Havenhythe is Wendlewick, a small village that sits along the island’s shoreline.

This is where you will meet the locals who call Havenhythe home. Among them are the village leaders Adam, Zeke and Esther, each playing a role in the community that has formed here.

Wendlewick isn't just somewhere to find quests. As you explore the village and the surrounding area, you will find small tasks, characters to meet, and stories that help bring the place to life.

Some of these are easy to stumble across. Others may take a little more curiosity to uncover.

Exploring Havenhythe

Step beyond the village and you will start to see just how much space Havenhythe has to explore.

Dense forests, hidden shrines, strange caves and quiet stretches of wilderness all sit across the island. Some areas feel peaceful. Others might give the sense that something is not quite right.

For this first release you'll be able to explore several key parts of the island, including the nearby forests, the Hill Giant settlement known as Hollow Hill, and other locations scattered across the landscape.

We won't spoil everything here though. Havenhythe is meant to reward players who take the time to explore it themselves.

New Activities Across the Island

Havenhythe brings a variety of new activities with it, including a major expansion to the Hunter skill.

Across the island you'll find new creatures to track, new hunting methods, and new materials that feed into other skilling updates. Some activities focus on active gameplay while others offer more relaxed ways to train as you explore the land.

There are also new skilling locations, resources and systems spread across the island that help make Havenhythe feel like a living part of the game world.

We will let players discover many of these for themselves once they arrive.

New Combat Encounters

For those looking for a fight, Havenhythe introduces a couple of new boss encounters aimed at early to mid levels.

These fights are designed to help players learn key combat mechanics such as reading enemy attacks, using protection prayers and reacting to boss abilities.

They also introduce some unique rewards that will become useful as players continue their adventures on the island.

The Story of Havenhythe

Your arrival at Havenhythe begins with a strange vision and quickly leads to the first quests of a new storyline.

Across two main story quests you'll begin uncovering what's happening on the island and why the people of Wendlewick are beginning to worry about what lies beyond their borders.

Along the way you'll meet new characters, learn more about the island’s past, and begin to hear whispers of a growing threat known as The Sanguine.

Alongside these story quests you'll also find a couple of smaller standalone adventures. These lean into the lighter side of RuneScape storytelling and bring a bit of the game’s classic humour to the island.

This Is Only the Beginning

This first release is just the start for Havenhythe.

There are still so many unanswered questions about the island, its past, and the forces that may be stirring beneath the surface. As the year continues, players will begin to uncover more of these mysteries through future updates and quests.

If you pay close attention while exploring, you might even start spotting hints of what is still to come.

Welcome To Havenhythe

Havenhythe is now available in RuneScape.

Set sail, explore a new land, meet its people and see what secrets are waiting to be uncovered.

Your journey to Havenhythe is only just beginning.

This Week in RuneScape [Feb 23rd]

Community Topics:
In Case You Missed It + Our Reactions to Last Week
  • Last week we launched our Early-Game Rebalance, which was followed by a Tuesday Thieving Rebalance to address feedback regarding how Thieving had been affected with a view towards AFK options. We used that same Thieving Rebalance to share our views on what AFK gameplay should offer in RuneScape - you can read more about that here. The associated coldfix launched last Thursday. You can read the patch notes below.

  • On Wednesday we launched our fifth and final beta update for the upcoming Combat Style Modernisation. You can read more about that here.

  • On Friday we shared a preview of our plans for the Aura Overhaul, with the intent of getting your feedback in and seeing what resonates (and what doesn't). Since then we've been actively reading your discussions and asking follow up questions where possible (see JMod links below). While it's still too early in the week to commit to any completely revised designs, the discussions have been valuable! For example, we have understood your feelings around moving aura effects into either the Pocket slot or the Relic System, so we will look into better alternatives for these and will not look to add any aura effects into the Pocket Slot or Relic system. Other feedback will need more time to be reviewed and considered, so we won't yet be able to respond on that.

We also want to better highlight where our JMods have provided some smaller insights into non-megathread discussions over the last week. Here are a few highlights

The Week Ahead:
  • Combat Beta - "Final Run"

  • We're spending this week preparing the overall Combat Modernisation update to be ready for the week of the 2nd of March. We've still got some minor feedback to implement and bugs to squash - most of this will be done in time for launch, but a few bits may be actioned in the post-launch period. As mentioned before, Combat is something we're keen to maintain a close eye on, and it will continue to receive tweaks every now and again.

  • Grand Exchange Improvements

  • Part 5 of our Road to Restoration blog series, the "Grand Exchange Improvements" project is about enabling players to able to trade quickly and fairly through a modernised, transparent and functioning Grand Exchange.

  • We're planning to share some early thoughts on this project on Thursday February 26th. This project is still in pre-production, so the associated update won't be launched for a while yet (which gives us a better opportunity for feedback!).

Patch Notes
Fixes and Improvements in this Week's Game Update
General
  • Thanks to Mod Nixon, the Still Night music track is reborn! Busy Night and Still Night music tracks are once again unlocked from the mining site south-east of Varrock.

  • Broken fences should now appear correctly on the Livid Farm.

  • Players will no longer find the 'green cape' when collecting the eggs for the Cook's Assistant quest.

  • Fixed an issue where players didn't receive the 'Blood Bank Withdrawal' achievement for opening the blood rune chest in the Chaos Druid tower.

  • Fixed an issue where Starbloom seeds could not be received from pickpocketing master farmers.

  • Fixed an issue where the Building status window and Construction skill guide were showing old XP bonus values from Fort Forinthry chapel.

  • During the One Of A Kind cutscenes the camera will no longer be able to clip under the ground.

  • Updated the interface that appears when trying to destroy an item.

  • If the loot interface is open and if the player tries to open the settings interface, the options menu pop-up should now disappear correctly.

  • The vis wax menu has been fixed to hold the text within the buttons and tooltip areas more appropriately, specifically the "Harmony Pillar" button and the "gather limit extender" menu.

  • Increased the size of the "Add Friend" and "Remove Friend" buttons in the "Friends" tab in the lobby to prevent truncated text.

  • Fixed an issue with text overlapping in the Temple Trekking Rewards interface.

  • The combat mode icon toggle has been removed from the edit mode window, due to defunct functionality.

  • Text in the Animal Info panel should now wrap nicely.

  • Death's Overflow Storage buttons have been changed to yellow.

  • Improved the readability of the text in the Mystery journal during "Murder on the Border".

  • If the player's interface is set to the classic layout, it will no longer be forcibly changed to the modern one if the player played on mobile.

  • Resized the loot window on the Classic interface layout so the custom loot button now fits the text within it.

  • The Dungeoneering "Start Room Modifications" interface has been updated so that the text no longer overlaps.

  • Graphically updated chicks across the game.

  • Initial reduction of sizes of some textures used in Free-to-play areas to help improve performance.

  • Hotfixes

The following changes have been already implemented.

  • Improved the AFK-ability of pickpocketing in line with the recent blog.

  • Improved the level bonus for all targets across 3 brackets. The level bonus gives you an extra "X-level boost" for your next X pickpockets

  • For low-level targets (level 1 - 30) your initial level bonus has been increased from 10 -> 15 for 10 picks.

  • For mid-level targets (level 31 - 50) your initial level bonus has been increased from 10 -> 20 for 10 picks.

  • For high-level targets (level 100+) your initial level bonus has been increased from 10 -> 25 for 25 picks.

  • A new effect has been added to the Crystal Mask spell that will reset the players’ pickpocketing target when used.

  • When pickpocketing the player's success % goes down with each attempt after X guaranteed attempts. If the player goes under 100% and then reuses this spell they correctly jump back up to above the 100% threshold as expected.

  • After the buffer your chance of being caught starts to reduce, this has been reduced from 1 level per time to 0.25

  • This will ultimately prolong the amount of AFK that players can have from the current 2-3 mins to around 4-6 mins, lining up with the Crystal Mask time of 5 minutes and what players have suggested is a good AFK time.

  • Added a message when you can first start to be spotted (your chance has gone below 100%) so that it is clear to players that they should try to find a new target (or renew Crystal Mask)

  • Also added a sound effect.

  • Adjusted Sticky Fingers Archaeology relic to be less harmful to the player

  • Currently it makes the player pickpocket 50% faster for 33% less XP. In the new system this means you fail much faster too.

  • We're going to make the relic reduce the above threshold to 0.17 per attempt instead which should balance the speed aspect to still allow a decent amount of afk.

  • Reduced Pickpocketing XP for targets introduced with 120 Thieving, reflecting the changes outlined in the blog (approximately a 30% XP reduction).

  • Resolved an issue with the Thieves’ Guild doors being unusable.

  • Rune arrowheads will no longer be converted to components by the spring cleaner.

  • Fixed an issue that caused the UI to not update after completing a clue step.

Community Discussions & This Week in RuneScape

Community Topics:
In Case You Missed It + Our Reactions to Last Week
  • Last week we shared what we want to achieve on the Road to Restoration and also shared a preview of our upcoming Early Game Rebalance and DailyScape Overhaul.

  • Having posted the latter blog on Friday and let discussions run their course for the weekend, we're spending this morning looking at what feedback we might be able to implement as part of the respective updates or where we can provide clarification. While we're moving in the overall right direction and are firm in our resolve to get there, your feedback, as always, helps identify areas of change where a little more consideration is required. With that in mind, here are just a few short (non-exhaustive) notes below:

  • An easy one to not go ahead with is the Chaos Altar and the Demonic Skull. We've heard you loud and clear on this point, and will not require the Demonic Skull to be used at the Chaos Altar. Instead, we will change the Chaos Altar buff to have it be acquired through the Wilderness area diary.

  • Livid Farm, Sacred Clay and RuneSpan points have, amongst other things, featured heavily in your discussions. We are considering what can be done about these - while we're not yet ready to commit to anything yet, we just want to let you know that we're taking your thoughts on board.

  • For consumables like Vis Wax and Wicked Hood Teleport charges, you will be able to continue using your remaining ones. A brief reminder: They will not be removed from your inventories at this time.

  • For Thieving, we will tweak the planned changes to the Crystal Mask as well as look to increase high level pickpocketing buffs. We still want to position the Crystal Mask as the best unlock for thieving when used in combination with Light form.

  • Additionally, in Friday's blog we mentioned there were further Hunter buffs in the works for the early levels. We'll be buffing Bird and Kebbit catching methods, such as increasing the success chance on catching birds and XP when caught.

  • For example, Crimson Swifts currently have a success chance of 39% at level 1, increasing with your Hunter level. We'll be buffing all birds to start at 75% success chance at their unlock level instead.

  • There is a concern from some folks that we're removing AFK activities. This absolutely isn't the case, we're just looking to ensure that they are balanced appropriately against the effort, to allow for other more "lean forward" methods to have a place too.

  • We also updated our Combat Modernisation Beta on Thursday and have continued to take your thoughts about it on board. We've got another week ahead of us with the Beta and will continue to work on the Combat Modernisation update throughout it - there is a chance that we'll update the beta once more this week, but we'll confirm that via a blog post on the day.

The Week Ahead:
  • Regrounding Items

  • Part 3 of our Road to Restoration blog series, the "Regrounding Items" project is about making visuals and worn items fit better thematically into the world of RuneScape as we work towards something that is more immersive and consistent with the game. We're planning to preview some of this work on Thursday February 12th, with the associated update coming into effect during the week of the 23rd.

  • Aura Overhaul

  • Another blog in our Road to Restoration series, we'll be previewing our design direction for how to tackle Aura's this Friday, February 13th. Note that the update itself to overhaul Aura's is still some weeks away.

Upcoming Maintenance

Just a quick reminder that we plan to have a short maintenance tomorrow February 10th at 9am UTC which should last for approximately 20 minutes. This is part of our ongoing work to improve the infrastructure and core experience of our games, if you would like to know more please check out the previous post.

The Month Ahead - February

We're trying something new!

As RuneScape continues its march into our bold new era, we want you to be part of our journey, every step of the way. That means giving you greater visibility on what's coming down the road, so that you know exactly what to expect, and when.

On the first Monday of each calendar month, we plan to share a "Month Ahead" view with you which dives a little deeper than our 2026 roadmap. We'll be giving you details of what's happening week-by-week and much further ahead than previously. For now, we want to keep things simple, but we do want to hear your thoughts on how these Month Aheads are structured! Understanding what information is important and how you want to receive it, will help us ensure that you stay informed at all times.

So how does it work?
  • For the month ahead, all updates or content releases for the game, will be noted in the golden container or the parchment visual (e.g. "New Quest" or "Combat Update").

  • Below that, we have the "Community Topics", which are topics for discussion that we will be talking to you about during the relevant week.

  • How exactly those topics will unfold is something we want to share at the start of each week. Sometimes these might be a straight-forward blog on a set day, other times they might be previews, feedback gathering threads, streams, podcast appearances or curated discussions on Discord. Hopefully also a mixture of the above!

The aim is to always provide you with the information to know what we're talking about when, and how you can get involved. Of course, the nature of development does mean that sometimes things may shift around a little and we may need to push a planned update back to ensure that it lives up to our standards and your expectations. When that happens, we'll try to provide an update in the next suited "This Week in RuneScape" blog that usually rolls out on a Monday.

One final note: While community topics in this month will be spaced quite close to their respective updates, this won't always be the case. We will likely be raising some topics for discussion quite far ahead of their official implementation into the game, so that we will have more time to action feedback from you.

Let's put it all into practice:

In week three, we will also be sharing our key learnings from the combat beta in the week before the update comes into effect.

To round off the month, we'll be sharing our first design direction and what we want our changes to the Grand Exchange to achieve.

Hopefully the above outlines have given you a clearer understanding of what to expect in the coming weeks, and especially when you can get involved and feedback on the things that matter to you. Do let us know if you have any ideas on how we improve things! Additional Regular Maintenance:

As part of our ongoing work to improve the infrastructure and core experience of our games, from tomorrow (Tuesday, February 3rd) we are going to be starting a continued maintenance schedule.

While this does mean a little bit more downtime each week and additional breaks for Mod 🐹, it will give our core infrastructure teams a more consistent timeline to continually update our systems and backend tech, rather than our current sporadic approach. So, what can you expect?

At its core, we will be scheduling maintenance for every Tuesday at 9am UTC. During this time, both games will be taken offline for improvements with downtime usually lasting** ~20 minutes**. While this will normally be the case, there may be some instances that will warrant a longer period of downtime. We are also looking to slightly alleviate those who are always online around that time, with every fourth period of maintenance happening at the later time of 11am UTC, with no changes in the amount of downtime stated above. Any period of downtime will be accompanied with a 45-minute shutdown timer to give you plenty of notice.

You may wonder why not just have these periods alongside the regular Game Update? While that approach does have benefits, we are still taking down both games and we believe it is better for both to go offline as this work can and will crossover with both games and other wider supporting systems. This approach also means if any issues arise then we can isolate investigating the problem with the maintenance work taking place, rather than trying to first identify whether it comes from game changes or external ones.

The team have already been doing some great maintenance work without it directly affecting both games (which we spoke about in our previous (https://secure.runescape.com/m=news/behind-the-scenes-of-rs-maintenance) (https://secure.runescape.com/m=news/inside-the-spudworks--ddos-and-ping)), but this is a continued effort to get our infrastructure into a place where the team are able to perform even more maintenance without needing to bring the games down.

To start off, here is the first batch of upcoming maintenance you can expect:

The Roadmap That Changes RuneScape Forever

Welcome to our biggest RuneScape Ahead ever, and the start of a bold new era for RuneScape.

As we celebrate RuneScape’s 25th anniversary, this moment isn’t just about reflecting on how far we’ve come, it’s about looking ahead. RuneScape has always evolved alongside its players, and what we’re sharing today marks a defining step in that journey. We’re unveiling our roadmap for the entirety of 2026, along with a brand-new identity for RuneScape, one that honours our heritage while embracing our ambition for the years to come.

This new chapter is a symbol of renewal and growth, and of our commitment to delivering meaningful experiences and lasting value in everything we create. This anniversary year represents more than a milestone; it’s a turning point—one that sets RuneScape firmly on course for the future it deserves.

And as we continue to evolve across the studio and our games, we do so with a clear purpose: to deliver brilliant content, incredible value, and experiences that are worthy of your time and trust.

Check in below to explore everything we have planned for 2026, including our new dedicated integrity roadmap.

The Road to Restoration

Let’s dive right into it with our new integrity roadmap, aptly named **The Road to Restoration, **a dedicated track of integrity-focused releases running alongside our main 2026 Content Roadmap.

With an incredible year ahead, we’re excited to finally share what’s coming throughout 2026 as we give the core RuneScape experience the care and attention it deserves, strengthening its foundations for every player, now and for years to come.

Through these updates, we’ll be tackling long-standing challenges like Dailyscape pressure, early- and mid-game skilling balance, visual identity, and much more. But before we dive into that… let’s not forget the other tiny little thing happening today.

Treasure Hunter is no more.

By the time you’re reading this, Treasure Hunter will be removed from RuneScape, and hundreds of gameplay-impacting MTX items will no longer be available for sale. Ending the sale of these items is the first step toward our long-term ambition: removing their presence from the game entirely.

Over the course of 2026, players will have the opportunity to use up any existing stockpiles, with additional chances later in the year to clear out anything that remains, before these items are ultimately made obsolete.

On top of that, we’re excited to kick off the Road to Restoration with three brand-new releases going live today.

UI Update - A New Look

Starting with the UI, as we unveil a fresh look...

This update delivers a familiar UI experience that keeps all the functionality you need, while introducing a cleaner, more classic, and refreshed look throughout. As part of that new visual identity, we’re restoring the stone UI icons and are reintroducing the circular minimap, a small but meaningful nod to the RuneScape many of us grew up with.

We’ve also improved the default layout to make it a stronger, more versatile option that works no matter where you are on your RuneScape journey. And this is just the beginning! This update marks the first step in a series of iterative UI improvements, with many more enhancements to come as we continue working closely with all of you to take it even further.

Visual Update - Cosmetic Toggle(s)

Speaking of visuals, another new introduction is the ability to toggle Cosmetic visuals! This will let you selectively hide other players' worn customisations and their animation customisations, at your discretion.

Not a fan of wings...? hide them! Or perhaps you prefer to see what other people are actually wearing... no problem either. All these cosmetic toggles will be released in today's update.

And later this year, we'll give you even more toggle options, including hiding other players' summoning familiar customisations.

Visual Update - Misthalin & Asgarnia Facelift

Last for today, but definitely not least: Our third release is a world update for Gielinor, focusing on iconic free-to-play areas like Lumbridge, Draynor, Varrock, and beyond. These locations have been brought up to the visual standard we’re establishing across the game, with even more updates planned later this year.

And in what might be one of the weirdest patch notes we’ve ever written, we’ve also updated every Normal, Oak, and Willow tree across the entire game! Bringing them to a stronger, more consistent visual standard that better ties the world together.

Dive right in today to take a look for yourself!

Next steps on the road.

Continuing along the Road to Restoration, we’ll be rolling out further changes and updates throughout the year, including:

Game Update - Free Runemetrics

The in-game RuneMetrics functionality will become completely free for all paid members (including Bond users) later this Spring.

This is part of a wider effort to make tooling more accessible and genuinely useful. Furthermore, we are no longer offering the purchase of RuneMetrics Pro subscriptions from today and have wider plans to decommission the RuneMetrics Pro website feature entirely this later year.

Existing Pro subscribers will have additional time to download any data stored on the web. We will share more information about this in the coming month, including information for players with existing longer RuneMetrics Pro subscriptions - if you do currently use RuneMetrics Pro, keep an eye on your emails for further information.

These updates mark the start of the Road to Restoration and set the stage for a year of rebuilding and strengthening RuneScape’s core experience.

Combat Update - Combat Style Moderisation

In February we’ll be launching our Combat Modernisation update. We'll be taking the three original combat styles and bringing them into the modern age.

This update focuses on making combat more intuitive and easier to learn through experiential gameplay, with streamlined ability lists that are gradually introduced as you progress through the levels, alongside simpler yet deeper synergies between abilities. Melee, Ranged and Magic have long suffered from dated designs and general inconsistencies. Especially in the early game, this results in a confusing and contradictory experience, ultimately resulting in unnecessary friction during early game combat.

The planned update takes learnings from previous combat updates such as Necromancy, and 2023's Combat update to modernise the styles, and to provide a clean foundation. This will make the systems easier to introduce new players to, without compromising the experience for endgame players.

Below is an overarching changelist - More specific patch notes will be released alongside the update in February.

  • Removal or rework of unnecessary, bloated abilities

  • Over time, additional abilities have been added to the original styles' kits that, in hindsight, did not add additional gameplay or nuance to the style. As a result, these have been removed or reworked.

  • Removal of Thresholds

  • Thresholds are a dated concept from EoC, leading to situations where abilities often compete with one another due to their similar costs. Removing Thresholds allows for nuanced abilities with variable costs, leading to more dynamic gameplay.

  • Introduction of a 'basic attack'

  • Basic attacks are core to RuneScape's identity: Fundamentally, RuneScape has always had them through our original point and click gameplay. When we introduced an action bar based system with the Evolution of Combat, auto attacks were moved to the background of combat. Utilizing learnings from Necromancy, we're reintroducing basic attacks to the three core styles, though modernised for action bar based gameplay.

  • Redistributing ability unlocks by level

  • Abilities for Melee, Ranged and Magic will be redistributed to better introduce players to each style over time. With the reduction of abilities and introduction of a basic attack, each ability can be made meaningful and deliberate in where it is unlocked; serving as a way to progress the player's journey.

  • Removal of lesser abilities

  • Lesser abilities have always served as a point of friction for new players. Given where they're positioned, they were often worse than using an 'auto attack', and were oftentimes worse than using Slice, Piercing Shot or Wrack, yet visually they appeared to be more interesting. With the introduction of basic attacks and the redistribution of level unlocks, lesser abilities are redundant and will be removed.

  • Visual clean up - animation reworks, vfx and projectile updates

  • Melee, Ranged and Magic suffer from various visual inconsistencies. From abilities sharing the same animation (looking at you wrack), to clipping, or jagged animations. We're taking this time to modernise each ability visually; whether that's through remastering the original animation using modern technologies, reworking the visual effects to remove duplicate animations, or adding additional VFX to ensure abilities feel satisfying to use.

  • Normalising ammo consumption

  • There's a large disparity between ammo consumption for both Ranged and Magic from the early game to the endgame. In the early game, minimal ammo is consumed, leading to confusion of when it should be consumed. This is then flipped in end-game, where many thousands are consumed per hour. This consumption will be normalised, resulting in a consistent experience across the board.

  • Tutorialization of abilities

  • Currently, when abilities are unlocked, they're directly added to your action bar. This is easy to miss and does not offer guidance on what the ability does. By adding Necromancy-style UI tutorials and preventing it from being auto-added to your action bar, we aim to better explain these abilities and guide early game players within their combat journey.

  • Increasing Attack, Strength, Ranged & Magic to 120

  • Each of the original combat style skills will be brought up to 120 to keep parity with Necromancy.

  • Removal of specific auras

  • We understand that auras timebox you into engaging in certain combat content in 1 hour increments. Alongside the skill cap increase for the core styles, we're removing Berserker, Reckless, Maniacal and Mahjarrat auras to prevent overall power creep, while reducing the reliance on auras to complete content efficiently.

  • Solid food rebalance

  • Solid food within RuneScape has always been in a bit of an odd spot. In the early game, its adrenaline cost negates any generated adrenaline through basic attacks, leading to situations where you can't gain adrenaline. In the end game on the other hand, reliance on Soul Split avoids this. To prevent solid food being a 'noob trap' in the early game, solid food has had its adrenaline cost reduced. Additionally, in the early game, food scales with your Constitution (hitpoints) level. This creates some unnecessary confusion, whereby you're punished for having a lower level. This has been removed in favour of healing static amounts.

  • Default action bar changes

  • With the introduction and subsequent removal of redundant abilities, the automatically generated action bars have become notably out of date. These have been updated to better take into account the reduced ability count, and optimised to be revolution friendly.

Balance Update - New Beginnings

Continuing into February, our focus shifts to the early-game experience with the first of many rebalancing updates. We’ll be tackling unnecessary friction in those early levels by addressing root issues like shrimp catch rates, pickpocket stun chances, drop tables, and much more.

Our goal is for skilling to feel simple, rewarding, and engaging, encouraging players to progress naturally into the deeper systems these skills have to offer as they become more invested. We'll follow this with a similar update for the mid-game in Summer, and an update focused on the late-game in Autumn.

Game Update - Life After Dailies

RuneScape shines when players log in because they want to, not because they feel they have to. Dailyscape is fundamentally at odds with what makes RuneScape feel like RuneScape.

In this update, we'll be taking a holistic look at all Dailyscape systems - from shop stocks, to vis wax, to D&Ds and even, yes, those hourly Wildy Events. We want RuneScape to be a game you enjoy playing for what it is, when you feel like it, and without a checklist of chores to complete.

Game Update - Aura Overhaul

Auras create a time pressure and a feeling of complexity with extra things you feel like you should consider in your setup before you start the task at hand.

That's why, this spring, we intend to fully remove all Auras. No more Aura Refreshes, no more limited peak efficiency - just a more enjoyable gameplay loop. Meanwhile we will investigate if those benefits can be moved to be part of the core game experience.

Game Update - GE Improvements

The Grand Exchange will also get some love as we set out to address your most desired features and improvements. We're going to improve things like how items update their price, item buy limits and more. As we kick off development on this we want to hear from you with what changes and improvements you’d like to see at the GE.

Social Update - Squad Goals

Later this year, as part of the wider Road to Restoration, we’ll be delivering a dedicated update focused on improving RuneScape’s social systems. While the full design is still taking shape, our aim is to strengthen the overall social experience through improvements to areas like chat range, broadcasts for collection log drops (and similar), and some clan-centric features that will make socialising in RuneScape feel more connected and impactful.

Game Update - API Plugin Support

For many years, you’ve asked for plugins in RuneScape similar to those in Old School. Plugins empower the community to create tools, features, and functionality that enable unique experiences and give players greater control over how they interact with the game, something you’ve long told us could help RuneScape truly thrive.

As a result, we’re investing in a dedicated new development team with a single mission - to bring plugin support to the RuneScape client before the end of 2026. To do this right, we’re designing the very foundations of the system to empower talented community developers to do their best work.

If you’re one of these developers, please do visit the dedicated API channel in our Discord.gg/RS Server, where we will begin to build an API community in months ahead.

Visual Update - Noise Control & Clean Up

As the year progresses, we’ll continue unifying the visual identity of Gielinor. This means decluttering content that hasn’t stood the test of 25 years, while steadily bringing the world up to the cohesive, modern standard we’ve been building since 2020. That includes the Player Avatar Refresh, which you can read more about below!

The Road Ahead

The Road to Restoration is just the beginning, our first look at the core initiatives that will give the fundamental RuneScape experience the care and attention it deserves this year. This roadmap will continue to evolve with your feedback and will be shaped by your voices, your ideas, and what you think should come next.

This is only the start, there’s so much more coming in 2026, and we can’t wait for you to experience it all!

HavenHythe Part One
What Is Havenhythe?

Havenhythe is RuneScape's biggest area expansion to date. It's a massive stretch of land to the East of Morytania, filled with villages, stories, people, adventures and encounters... like a massive blood-thirsty hedgehog...? We'll get back to you on that one.

Once the home to a first-age civilisation, it's a landmass that's packed with lots of rich, layered history.

In the First Age, Havenhythe was the home to a magical nexus, the birthplace of the Colossi. And a long-dormant gateway to Vampyrium itself... which is nothing to worry about.

It feels like a land full of life. A grounded and organic region populated with stories, oddities, and those small, familiar RuneScape moments. But, as you venture further beyond the village of Wendlewick, things start to change. The forests thin, the air will grow colder, and as we expand Havenhythe throughout the year, you’ll begin to feel that pull towards the east, where the region becomes more treacherous and vampiric.

Nothing Strange Happens Here. Probably.

Like the beginning of many a great story, you meet a stranger in a tavern and have a questionable drink with them before ending up on a boat, sailing towards a land that doesn't want to stay hidden anymore. Typical Tuesday afternoon for an adventurer.

Once you land in Havenhythe you'll hear of strange rumours spreading through Wendlewick... rumours of a pale-skinned woman... long pointy ears... silver hair... sharp canines... red, hungry eyes.. the usual fare.

Alongside these main story quests there will be standalone quests that are fun little local stories intended to go beyond the core storyline and help familiarise yourselves with locals and their customs. Small-town stuff... neighbours, chores, and the odd crab problem.

Tasks - Your Path to Glory

Tasks are your ticket to success in a League season. Tasks are a collection of challenges and achievements that push you to explore every corner of Gielinor. It's a classic positive feedback loop - the more Tasks you conquer, the more League points you’ll rack up and the more impactful Relics tiers you unlock, leading to even more points for even more powerful Relics!

Tasks are split into tiers ranging from Easy all the way up to **Master **and each one tests your skills in a different way. Easy tasks are quick victories, like cutting down a goblin in Lumbridge, and net you a tidy 10 points apiece. But at the other end of the spectrum lie the **Master tasks. **These monumental challenges demand dedication, grit, and skill, rewarding your legendary feats with a hefty 400 points each.

These tasks cover every corner of adventure in Gielinor: skilling, hunting rare drops, slaying fearsome creatures, completing epic quests, and diving headfirst into minigames. No matter your playstyle, there’s always a challenge waiting to push you further.

Each tier is a treasure trove of trials scattered across the world. From rapid-fire wins to grueling achievements, every task you conquer earns you points fueling your climb through the tiers, and brings you ever closer to ultimate glory.

Here's a few examples of what these Tasks can look like:

And if you want to kick start your theorycrafting our friends on the RuneScape Wiki have dropped the full Easy and Medium task list here!

Relics - The Keys to Power

Relics are a League-exclusive source of power, spread across seven tiers. Each tier unlocks at increasing League Point milestones, pushing you to tackle tougher and tougher tasks to raise your power level. Each Tier also has you choose between multiple powerful Relics packed with bonuses that supercharge your gameplay, boosting everything from gathering and processing to teleportation and combat, letting you carve your own path through the League. Which ones you choose will radically shape your experience.

As you rise through the tiers and tackle tougher challenges, you’ll unlock ever more powerful Relics, each one expanding your options and letting you shape your build in new ways. By the time you reach Tier 7, your setup can be entirely unique, forged by your playstyle and the path you’ve carved through the League.

Every tier adds a new layer of strategy, bringing fresh choices that can refine your strengths or open up entirely new paths toward your goals.

Combat Mastery Achievements

Listen up Project, War has a new task for you. Combat Mastery Achievements are here.

Have you wrecked and ruined your way through the bosses of Gielinor? Ready to flaunt your PvM power level? Combat Mastery Achievements are made for players just like you—gain recognition for your PvM prowess by completing new combat-focused tasks.

This exciting new achievement system will have you tackling challenges of all difficulties as you take on bosses from 24 years of PvM history. The Combat Achievements are split into 6 tiers: Easy, Medium, Hard, Elite, Master, and Grandmaster! The question is, where will you land?

Where to get started

To get started on this journey you just need to open up your Hero menu (F1) and go to the Achievement tab, here you will find a new section for Combat Mastery and can track your progress and plan out your next goals.

You can also head down to War's Retreat to speak with War about Combat Mastery.

How does it work?

Launching with this update is a whole slew of new Combat Achievements alongside several previous achievements being moved into this system. These Achievements are generally split into three main categories: Kill Speed, Kill Count and Mechanical achievements.

  • Kill Speed - Defeat a boss within a timeframe.
  • Kill Count - Defeat a boss a certain number of times
  • Mechanical - Defeat a boss in a specified way such as avoiding being hit by a specific boss mechanic.

Mechanical achievements may be split into two additional achievement subtypes. Unorthodox and Perfect.

  • Unorthodox - Complete the encounter in an 'unorthodox' way, such as not resolving mechanics
  • Perfect - Complete the encounter in a 'perfect' way, such as avoiding all avoidable boss mechanics

Kill times were calculated using boss completion data from the past year. We established breakpoints for each difficulty tier based on our target distribution of players across categories, further refining these with personal experience and insights from our internal team.

Kill count achievements will be retroactively applied to your account once the update goes live, but kill speed achievements will not be retroactive. Keep in mind that current kill times don’t account for the exact number of players in an instance—only that the total number of players was within or below the recommended limit for the encounter.

Each achievement will fall into one of the tiers, and you'll accumulate points based on the tier of the achievement you complete : Tier # of tasks Points per task Points in tier Easy 19 1 19 Medium 58 2 116 Hard 173 3 519 Elite 172 4 688 Master 92 5 460 Grandmaster 44 6 264 Total 558 2066 You don’t need to complete the achievements in any particular order—you’re free to tackle previous tiers or jump ahead to the next one. Chart your own path and progress through these achievements as you see fit!

As you reach key point thresholds (19 / 137 / 659 / 1351), you'll unlock "War's Blessing", a set of passive rewards that will help enhance your combat journey and further empower you as you push forward.

War's Blessing Tier 1:

  • Adrenaline gain from Adrenaline Crystals is increased to 100% per action.

  • A one time completion reward of 1 War's Ancient Armour Gizmo (Costless)

  • A one time completion reward of 1 War's Ancient Weapon Gizmo (Costless)

  • Guaranteed chance of activating Reaper's Choice

  • 50% increase to earned Marks of War.

  • 1000 increased hourly cap on Marks of War

These rewards are designed to improve your quality of life throughout your combat journey, helping to remove obstacles when chasing specific achievements. However, they are intentionally not meant to grant any direct power boosts. Completing prior achievement tiers should not be necessary to progress in the harder challenges ahead.

Unlocking Tier 3 and Tier 4 will grant you the ability to select specific boss rotations, which can be accessed via the "Beasts" menu in the "Adventures" Tab (F3).

This feature will assist you in tackling some of the more specialized achievements tied to these bosses!

Also Wars Grimoire? What is that?

New to War’s Retreat is War’s Grimoire, a handy tome that lets you swap between your unlocked spellbooks! Like many of the retreat’s amenities, the Grimoire is unlocked by defeating bosses—specifically after reaching 750 boss kills. Once unlocked, you can easily switch spellbooks, and upon reaching Tier 3 in War’s Blessing, you’ll also be able to change your unlocked prayers.

Additionally, one of War’s Clan Representatives has arrived at the retreat to take over some of War’s more mundane tasks. They’ll decant your flasks and blubbers and sell challenge gems on War’s behalf, freeing up War for more important matters!

Improving the War-drobe

One of our key design goals for Combat Mastery Achievements was to create visually striking rewards that players would be proud to show off. We aimed for something reminiscent of the Completionist capes, with their extensive checklist of requirements, but without overlapping in the same item slot. Instead, we focused on two slots that offered both flexibility and strong visual impact: the necklace and aura slots.

Players can earn six cosmetic necklaces (one per tier) and two cosmetic auras (Master and Grandmaster) by completing all achievements within a given tier. Unlike War’s Blessing, which is unlocked through point accumulation, these rewards are tied directly to completion of all the achievements in a tier.

Combat Mastery Auras

Those who reach the pinnacle of combat by completing the Master and Grandmaster achievements will be rewarded with unique auras, serving as a bold testament to their power and skill!

**Wars Medallion **

Wear the symbol of War with pride! Each completed tier unlocks a new color: Blue for Easy, Green for Medium, Red for Hard, and Purple for Elite.

And for those who conquer the Master and Grandmaster tiers, you'll unlock exclusive versions to match your powerful auras!

Chat Badges

Want to make a bold statement in your chats? With Combat Mastery Achievements, we're introducing two new chat badges—one for Master and another for Grandmaster.

You can activate these badges by speaking with War, and they won’t just appear in your chat log—they’ll also be visible in your ** examine**, ensuring everyone can recognize your prowess!

What comes next?

Combat Mastery Achievements is an ever-evolving system that will grow as new bosses and challenges make their way to Gielinor.War isn’t quite done with you yet, Project!

Group Ironman Launch - This Week In RuneScape

Group Ironman is here!

Steel yourselves for self-sufficient 'Scaping, this time with a team of friends by your side! Now's your chance to build a powerful squad of Ironmen and compete for the top spot on the leaderboards. It's a new way to experience Gielinor!

Group Ironman launches today and is a fresh spin on the classic Ironman format. Players are self-sufficient, are unable to trade (mostly) and have a DIY attitude towards the game - but now, you'll be working as a team instead of going solo. Group members are able to freely trade tradeable items to each other and have access to Group Storage, a shared Bank which lets you pass around select items that were previously untradeable.

You'll be competing for new leaderboard positions in both Competitive and Regular Group Ironman modes. You'll also have the opportunity to earn unique rewards like the Group Ironman Armour, which improves as the group smashes through their Journey Achievements.

Want to know more? Check out the Group Ironman Dev Diary, or our recent blog!

If you need a little direction on how to get started, check out the panel below this one for a crash course.

Lastly, we'd like to say a big thank you to the entire Group Ironman team.

Their dedication, creativity, and collaboration have brought this long-awaited feature to life, and we are looking forward to seeing the whole community come together to experience it. The effort they've all put into this update cannot be understated, from the initial design stages all the way to launch.

This is a huge milestone, and none of it would have been possible without each of your contributions. Here's to even more exciting updates in the future!

Getting Started

To start Group Ironman, you'll need an account which hasn't progressed past character creation.

Step 1. Press "Select Game Mode"

Step 2. Choose "Group Ironman" Step 3. Customise your character and press "Done" when you're ready to proceed.

Step 4. If you want to dive straight into Group Ironman and do not need a tutorial, select "I have played recently".

Congratulations! You are now a Group Ironman! Just need to get the group going now...

Grouping up

Once you're on the Iron Enclave, you can form your group. When you have control of your character, check out the "Create Group" tab - it should pop right up on your screen.

Here you will select either "Regular" or "Competitive" mode. Don't worry if you're not sure which one to pick yet - you can change between them while forming the group.

Your next challenge is settling on a name! It can be up to 20 characters, but bear in mind that you’ll be unable to pick the same name as an existing Clan, as they share the same name space.

Once you have a name and your group mates, you're ready to set out. Remember, your group must be between two and five players, and one of you will have to take on the mantle of leader. Don't fear if all your planned group mates aren't all available at this early stage - you'll be able to add players to your team by returning to the Iron Enclave, so there’s no need to hang around waiting.

Join the game and start climbing those HiScores!

If you are a current Ironman player, you can head to Lumbridge and use the portal to the Iron Enclave to access the island and start forming or joining a group. Please note that if you are an Iron and wish to become a Group Iron, you will not be able to reverse this decision.

The Iron Enclave

The Iron Enclave is a new island only available to Iron players. It’s where you’ll form teams and learn the core elements of Group Ironman!

You can speak with the Iron Tutor to learn more about the available Game Modes...

Check out the Ironman at Group Ironman achievements at the plaque...

... and when you're ready, you can take the Portal to Lumbridge from the northern point of the island.

Adventure awaits! If you want to know more about the Group Ironman experience, you can check out our recent wrap up blog or the Features and Gameplay video released last week!

General
  • Updated names on boss entrances to public and private encounters, instead of uninstanced and instanced encounters.

  • Removed Master of Assault Achievement from Trimmed Completionist Cape requirements.

  • "Assault and Battery" and "Pirates of Penance" music tracks are now unlocked by entering the Barbarian Assault lobby.

  • The Trouble Brewing music track will now unlock when you enter the lobby.

  • The Stealing Creation music track will now unlock when you enter the lobby.

  • Player examine now links to the Clan information web page, if that player is in a Clan.

  • Fixed an issue which caused various necromancy ability animations to not function as expected.

  • Fixed an issue that blocked players from equipping the spooky keepsake items.

  • The Mazcab raid puzzle section has been altered so it can be completed by less than 4 people. Now you only need 4 or the number of players in the group, whichever is lower, to be standing on the puzzle pieces.

  • For example a group of 2 players will only need two correct puzzle tiles to be stood on.

  • The time allowed to complete this puzzle has also been increased from 12.6 seconds to 15 seconds.

Ironman Changes
  • The following content is now available for Ironman and regular Group Ironman players - it is still blocked for Competitive Ironman groups:

  • Blast Furnace

  • Demon Flash Mobs (drops available for Competitive Ironman groups if they do 100% of the kill)

  • Sinkholes

  • Trouble Brewing

  • All Ironman accounts should now be able to correctly spend Zeal in the reward shop to purchase XP and charms.

We are delighted to announce that we have raised a grand total of $70,000 with our Froggly Fundraiser event which wrapped up on Monday. Over $27,000 of it was raised via player's RuneCoin donations and the entire sum will be split evenly among our wonderful charity Partners Blueprint for All, Safe in Our World and Special Effect.

It was inspiring to see how well this amphibious initiative was received by the community!

To ensure players have an optimal gaming experience, we will be discontinuing support for 32-bit Android devices in the first quarter of 2025. This decision allows us to focus exclusively on optimising the game for 64-bit Android systems moving forward.

By shifting our attention to 64-bit devices, we can unlock improved performance, increased efficiency, and an overall smoother experience for players. While this change may impact some users, it is an essential step toward future-proofing the game and ensuring we can continue delivering updates and enhancements.

Post Game Jam and Merch Update - This Week In RuneScape

We've got just some of the fruits of last week's Game Jam to show you, plus exciting merchandise updates and more!

It's back! Game Jam is a reoccurring event where the JMods take one whole week to explore personal projects, community suggestions, and other exciting ideas. We've seen loads of awesome projects on the go this week, so here's a preview of just a few of them...

Mod Dorn

Visualizing Seeds and Herbs - Mod Dorn is keen to help player visualize and differentiate items, and has taken a stab at diversifying the looks of seeds and herbs. Giving them more diverse colourings should players tell the difference at a glance!

Mod Pebble

What's the deal with Yanille? Mod Pebble has been learning more about our internal mapping tools and set the task of improving the tone/vibe of Yanille. They've even been getting player feedback on how players would like to see the town look!

Mod Sponge

Spongeatouille - Mod Sponge has taken a moment away from combat to look into the next greatest battle: cooking. Between gathering player feedback on what they would wanna see from the culinary skill.

Mod Fowl

Inclusivity fixes for Titles - Inclusivity is an incredibly important topic and Mod Fowl is picking up the torch from Mod Raven and working to update a ton of titles and the underlying systems to let players have more choices and options on how they wanna present themselves!

Mod Fox

Furniture Shark - Building off some of Mod Fowl's previous Game Jam work, Mod Fox has gone and created this beautiful concept art for a very Legally Distinct Furniture Shark...

Mod Chaose, Frosch, Kitsune, Fox and Blkwitch

Daemonheim Archaeology - Continuing their intrepid work on Daemonheim Arch Site, the team has been making stellar progress including developing mysteries, designing a relic reward, inputting achievements , touching up some of the base camps snow and lighting and even building out a new map concept!

Mod Helen

Organizing the War Retreat boss portals - Tired of trying to figure out where the boss you wanna face is in the chronological order? Well Mod Helen has heard your prayers and has created a new system to organize the boss list in either chronological or alphabetical order!

Mod Luma

Shooting Star Update - Mod Luma is getting cosmic and has dove into modernizing the Shooting Star D&D, aiming to keep the core event identity in place but improving the systems!

Such as making it more reasonable to solo without impacting groups, new locations it can appear, improving the xp & bonus xp gains and making them more convenient to use along side creating a shop for Stardust and new achievements to go with it!

Mod Stu & Grace

Combat Level Up Jingles - Miss the old level of jingles? Well not anymore! Mod Stu has done extensive research into the previously used combat jingles and Mod Grace has graciously (heh) modernized the older midi jingles so they can make a triumphant return!

RuneScape Kingdoms Board Game – last chance for exclusive bundles!

Backers of the RuneScape Kingdoms Kickstarter have started receiving their pledges over the past few weeks, and we’ve been so excited to see pictures of their hauls! Check out the goods:

If you missed out on the Steamforged Games Kickstarter back in 2022 and want to go all in – now's your chance! The Deluxe Edition Bundle and the Expansions Bundle are exclusively available on Steamforged’s online store right now.

While not quite the early bird deal snapped up by Kickstarter backers, these are now the best value for getting your hands on an all-in pledge for the core game and expansions, and will only be available until next week! Once the core game and KBD expansion release for retail February 29th, all the other expansions and core game will only be available individually.

If the Steamforged store doesn’t ship to you, you want to avoid shipping costs, or only want the core game, these are coming to retailers globally on February 29th.

That's all for now, but we'll have more to share next week on the retail release for the board game and separate TTRPG – including videos of your favourite JMods getting hands-on with both!

Fally Goodies from Angels Scapes

Relive your travels through Falador over the years with this range of pins and keyrings by Angels Scapes, exclusively available on the official merch store.

  • The Rising Sun Bottle Opener celebrates Falador's most popular pub.
  • Dwarven Stout has been added to the beer opener fridge magnet range, so you always have the right equipment to hand to crack open your favourite tipple.
  • The limited edition White Knight Pin will always fight for you!
  • Holy (giant) moley, there's even a Giant Mole Pin, with two mini baby moles escaped from beneath Falador park!
  • There's also a limited edition Dragonfire Shield pin!

Had a little (or long) break from RuneScape and looking to get back into the swing of things? We're introducing a limited time offer for past Members to return, with 14 days of Membership and Double XP time for just $1!

If you've not been a RuneScape Member for a while, you'll be able to access this offer from February 27th to March 27th. If you're interested, return to this page on February 27th for a link to the offer.

New $1 Returning Member Offer

  • 14 Days of Membership.
  • 24 Hours of Double XP (to use within 30 days of purchase).

Eligibility

  • Available February 27th to March 27th.
  • Character must have been a Member in the past.
  • Character must not have had an active Membership for 30 days.
  • Character must not have been active RuneScape in the last 30 days
  • Character must not have completed the Old School RuneScape tutorial.*

Note: Due to the eligibility terms, cancelling your subscription will not gain you access to this offer. This is an offer intended to attract past Members back to RuneScape.

Many of you reading this are likely to be seasoned veterans of RuneScape, so we feel it's important we give you more details behind this offer and what we want to achieve.

We have a wealth of past RuneScape Members (with plenty of goals still to chase!) who we would love to see rejoin the world of Gielinor. With so many games out there today, we want to trial some offers to encourage them back - similar to how other games might run Free Weekends, for example. In our case, we're picking a route that best protects the health of the game with a payment gate, while also getting people back into RuneScape's best version with Membership.

We've designed this offer to provide a great low-price reason to come back, but also to encourage these ex-adventurers to get back into the swing of things properly - and that's where the Double XP comes in. Coming back to RuneScape and finding your groove can be difficult, so by offering 24 hours of Double XP, we hope to make those early hours a little more rewarding and get players re-invested in chasing their dream levels over the long term.

That said, it's deeply important to us that we take existing players into account when making this offer – we don't want any Members benefitting from 'additional' Double XP time beyond what's available today. We've intentionally designed this so that no eligible returning Member for this offer will have participated in our most recent Double XP. This means we're offering some missed Double XP time as part of the incentive to return, but not giving additional Double XP time compared to existing Members.

If you've been looking for a way to get your friends back into RuneScape, we hope this offer will be a nice surprise in their inbox – and hopefully get them back in your party!

*Both RuneScape titles share Membership and we love seeing players use that benefit to play both games! However, as this is a promotional idea to attract past RuneScape Members back to RuneScape, we needed to include this restriction to ensure the offer is RuneScape specific as intended.

We have scheduled essential planned maintenance for all RuneScape and Old School game worlds on Tuesday February 27th at 09:00-12:00 (UTC) / 01:00-04:00 (PST) / 19:00-22:00* (AEST)**.

During this period, all game worlds will be temporarily unavailable for up to 3 hours. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this downtime and will keep players informed of any changes to this estimated schedule.

*approximated end of downtime.

Community Hitlist & Necromancy Embargo - This Week In RuneScape

Hitlist is back and filled with Quality of Life updates, we are also lifting the Necromancy embargo!

Hitlist is back! Last month we asked you to submit your suggestions for the next round of Community Hitlist changes. We are still currently going through the bounteous feedback, so to tide you over, today’s update includes a few things that weren’t ready for the end of last year – but are ready now!

This time around the team have been smoothing out Fire Spirits, making improvements to the Player Owned Farm, giving various animals graphical updates, adjusting the Herb and Gem bags to work with noted items, enabling players to move the central information box from the middle of the screen, tweaking deathtouched darts to work on a few more bosses and making improvements to the fletching bench in the Fort's workroom.

Phew! And that's not all of it, either.... Check out the patch notes below for the full list of changes!

Our combat beta has been in full swing since November and we are pushing a new beta patch out starting on Thursday January 25th!

We're polishing changes that will be making their way into the live game in the near future but we need your help: We want you to jump in and do battle with your favourite foes. It doesn't matter if you are a slayer master who speedruns tasks with your melee build or you're a budding mage who has been finding their feet, whoever you are we want to hear from you about these changes.

Dive into the beta on Thursday and try out your usual combat scenarios and let us hear from you on how they **play **and _feel _with these changes under your belt!

We will have more details on how you can share your experiences with the beta on **Thursday January 25th **as we will make a post when it launches!

Since Necromancy's cold embrace enraptured the world of Gielinor, we've seen so many of you master a brand-new Combat Style and we've been delighted to follow your journeys to become the most powerful Necromancers around.

From today, we're lifting the embargo on Necromancy to help those of you looking to give an extra nudge to your progression to be combat-ready.

Players will be able to use experience granting items (such as Lamps and Stars) with Necromancy, along with all other experience granting systems that are available to all other skills!

We absolutely loved partnering with Makeship last year to bring you adorable RuneScape plushies – so much that we’re following up with a new, Dragon-themed menagerie ready for the new lunar year!

You can pre-order these draconic (_and _iconic) plushies right now to add to your ever-growing collection. Check out our store page at the Makeship website here: https://www.makeship.com/shop/creator/runescape

Starts January 23th | Ends January 24th | Genie's Wishes

Be careful what you wish for... you might just get it! Find Karima in your chest to make your wish come true – or enhance your next wish for even greater rewards!

Starts January 25th | Ends January 29th | Soul Showdown

It's time for a showdown between good and evil! Necromancers from both sides will be duking it out on behalf of Death and Rasial.

Spend keys to attack the Necromancers and earn Sigils based on which you defeat. They can then be exchanged for their unique outfits and weapons! Occasionally a defeated Necromancer will be replaced by either Death or Rasial, and you get two Sigils for defeating these mightiest of foes!

Collecting a whole set will reward you with a themed Conjure override – either the Ghul Guardian Zombie or Soul Reaver Skeleton Warrior!

Update to Oddment Generation

With today's update we are making some alterations to Oddments generated via Keys and Treasure Hunter reward conversions.

  • Increased Oddment Key Daily Purchase Limit from 10 to 15
  • Base Oddments awarded per key reduced per rarity
  • Convert Oddments' volumes are no longer affected by reward multipliers
Community Hitlist
  • Herb and Gem Bags will now store noted items.

  • The information box that appears above the player to display feedback can now be moved using Edit Mode.

  • When a monster dies, its options are now hidden during the death animation, so you can more easily pick up the items the monster has dropped.

  • You can now disable dragging of items in your backpack, using the new padlock button at the bottom.

  • Hovering over the Invention button on the backpack, and the charge pack in your toolbelt, now displays your remaining charge time and drain rate.

  • The health of Runes in Zamorak’s solo phase 7 has been halved.

  • Dev Note: this is to reduce the difficulty between solo and group play; the mechanic was meant to be memory-based and missable if not enough attention was paid, so we elected for halving the health rather than reducing the Rune count further.

  • Added a wiki button to the top-right corner of the quest overview/journal interface. Clicking it opens the quick guide for the selected quest.

  • Player Owned Farm name and trait re-rollers can no longer re-roll the current trait/name in the selected slot, and will reopen the roll menu if the player hasn't run out of rerollers.

  • Completing the Breeding Log for a category of animal now passively grants the tier 1 perk for this animal.

  • For example, if you have completed the You Had a Zygomite achievement to breed the five types of zygomite, you are now granted the tier 1 Zygomite perk Uncapped Potential, without needing a Zygomite in one of your pens. You still require an animal in a pen to get its tier 2 perk.

  • Normalised produce and seed amounts required for farming requests based on produce and seed type, removed some outlying annoying crops/seeds it could require (e.g. Bloodweed Seed, Goutweed, Goutweed Tuber).

  • Reduced possible animal types from small and medium farming requests, increased allowed breeds from medium and hard farming requests, and removed the need for specific traits on hard requested animals.

  • Making planks via NPCs and the Elite Skilling outfit is now more streamlined.

  • All types of Fire Spirits will now send rewards directly to the Bank, or to the Inventory if the Bank is full – otherwise the rewards will drop to the floor.

  • Messaging is now output to say exactly what rewards the Fire Spirit has given.

  • Messaging is now output when a Fire Spirit despawns without collecting its reward.

  • A buff is now added to the buff bar when adding logs to a bonfire, if you have any bonus XP from a Fire Spirit.

  • Added a 15 second reminder that incense sticks will run out, in line with potion effects.

  • The following bosses are no longer immune to Deathtouched Darts: Commander Zilyana (hardmode), Araxxor in duo mode, Seiryu the Azure Serpent. Note that darting Seiryu only skips phases where you can damage Seiryu.

  • You will need to destroy the crystals on Seiryu's back (which are dartable) to complete the final phase and get your reward drop.

  • Black Unicorns have been graphically updated.

  • The Unicorn Stallion familiar has been graphically updated to match White Unicorn, using special attack for healing animation, and retaining the current chathead.

  • Unicorns now use melee instead of magic attacks to better suit their animations.

  • Black/white foals have been graphically updated, with slight adjustments to their examine.

  • Black bears and grizzly bears, including their cubs, have been graphically updated.

  • Updated Chuck the Polar Bear in the Ardougne Zoo to use the newer polar bear model.

  • Updated arctic bear familiar and in the Three's Company saga to use the newer polar bear model.

  • Turael, Spria and Jacquelyn's novice Slayer Master outfits have been graphically updated.

  • Updated Vannaka the Slayer Master, body and chathead, including his appearance in Beneath Cursed Tides, Tutorial Island, and the NPC Contact spell.

  • By popular request, we’ve added a copy of Vannaka to his temporary encampment in south-west Edgeville Dungeon, and updated the Note from Vannaka accordingly.

  • Repositioned a god ray in the Varrock Sewers under the ladder leading to its manhole exit.

  • The Magic Store owner that sells runes in the Yanille Mage's Guild no longer wanders and has trimmed robes to more easily distinguish him.

  • We've also graphically updated the attackable wizards wandering around him.

  • Updated the Angry Unicorn, Bear and Giant Rat in Tolna's Rift to use newer models.

  • Added a column for Necronium salvage to the Spring Cleaner interface.

  • Increased the maximum length of chat history from 100 to 200.

  • 'Loot Custom' will now grab any noted or stackable items from the ground if you already have one in your backpack.

  • The fletching bench in the ranger's workroom now has a ‘use’ option which checks what fletchable ingredients you're currently carrying and attempts to guess whether to open its Ammo, Fletch or String option.

  • Combined the fletching bench's ‘toggle’ and ‘check wisdom of Anima’ options as it already had the maximum of five options.

  • In response to feedback, the fletching workbench and portable fletcher's Ammo option now prioritises tipping headless arrows over feathering arrow shafts, imbuing essence over tipping Dinarrows, and the Fletch option prioritises standard Logs over Protean Logs.

  • Unwearable items will be moved to the Inventory noted when withdrawing them from the worn tab of the Bank, if withdrawing items noted is toggled on.

  • By player request, removed Chick'arra's screech and Herman's yell and footstomp during the idle animation of these boss pets.

Graphical Update
  • Blocking tiles were added in Catherby to fix an issue that allowed players to clip through the environment.

  • A rock is no longer going through the fence at the Fishing Guild.

  • Blocking has been added to a rock cliff near the water edge at the Coal Mine in North Kandarin.

  • The bushes no longer clip through the walls at the guest house north of the Wizards' Guild in Yanille.

  • Rocks added to the wall near Sinclair Mansion.

  • Rocks near the Eagle's Peak lodestone should now have similar colours.

  • Added bubbles to the Lava near Ourania Altar.

  • The hidey-hole near the Outpost north-west of Ardougne has been added back.

  • The Sinclair Mansion hidey-hole has been remapped at the correct coordinate.

  • Fixed a blocking issue causing some Red Salamander traps to become unreachable near the Ourania Altar.

  • An inaccessible fishing spot north of the Combat Training Camp can be accessed once again.

  • Fixed an issue which caused a tree to float east of the Grand Exchange.

  • Stalls in Ardougne Market will no longer twist around abruptly when players steal from them.

  • Adjusted blocking around the Ardougne Market.

  • The inactive stalls in the centre of Ardougne market are now examineable.

  • Blocking has been added to a fence next to the church in East Ardougne.

  • The fence corner has been replaced with the correct fence piece at the Ardougne Zoo.

  • Fences extend to the south side of Ardougne Zoo.

  • Fixed some blocking north of the Observatory and added a shortcut icon for the Plant to the map.

  • Adjusted some blocking around the Ourania Altar area.

  • Fixed some blocking issues at the cliffs near the West Ardougne wall.

  • The fence model at the Ardougne Market has been replaced.

  • World Gate Engram no longer appears hidden under the terrain.

  • Grounded the floating rocks into the rock wall at Eagle's Peak.

  • Added Shells back to the shore north of Barbarian Assault.

  • Blocking has been added to some rocks and high mapping has been fixed on the beach near Eagle's Peak.

  • Removed the Elven overpass easy/medium/advanced cliffside shortcut entries from the Agility skillguide.

  • Removed the A Screwball Scramble achievement, as there's no longer Agility longcuts in Arandar Pass to trigger it, and the Elite Tirranwn area tasks already required more than 85 Agility via the Weave Come A Long Way achievement.

  • Note that removing this achievement reduces max Runescore by 25.

  • Blocking has been added near the Grand Tree area.

  • Terrain gaps in Prifddinas Max Guild have been closed up.

  • Healthorg and Oaknock Statues are fixed and don't float.

  • The dead tree is reachable and blocking is added near the Outpost area.

  • Blocking has been added near the Kingdom of Kandarin.

  • Players are able to search the boxes at the Ardougne market.

  • Necromancy is no longer taken into account when scaling the Dungeoneering monster/boss levels.
  • Adjusted the font size used in the Achievements tab.
  • Hammer overrides are now present when smithing normal bars and Protean Bars, and the audio is now played correctly.

  • Blocking has been added to the rocks northwest of Senntisten's entrance, preventing you from walking through terrain textures.

  • The XP from the Troll Invasion Reward Book is now correctly based on the progress made.

  • Fixed an issue that stopped Abyssal Lords, Abyssal Savages and Abyssal Beasts from dropping items from the Wilderness shared drop table.

  • Using Sunshine and Death's Swiftness with the Planted Feet perk active will now last 37.8 seconds, to match Greater Sunshine and Greater Death's Swiftness respectively.

  • Greater Sunshine and Greater Death's Swiftness have had their tooltip amended to more accurately display how long the abilities are active.

  • Summoned reinforcements within GWD2 should no longer be able to enter a state where they can attack the player if the player uses the AoE attack of a Summoning familiar.

Master Cape Customisation & December Community Hitlist - This Week In RuneScape

This update is stuffed with changes in our December Community Hitlist strike, Mod Ramen’s Cape Customisation and some new deals on currency packs!

The end of the year is fast approaching, but we've got just enough time to squeeze in a hitlist strike and tackle some more of your most-requested QoL changes.

This time around the team have been working on turning Revenant Enhancers into a currency to free up those precious Bank slots, updates to several audio requests players have been asking for, adding in the ability to drop items from your Backpack by shift-clicking them, adding a Load Last Preset option to bank chests, bank booths and bankers, refreshing the rare and super rare loot tables, and changing how Excalibur functions when clicked.

Phew! But that's not all the team's been up to. Check out the patch notes below for the full list of changes!

With all that out of the way, the Community Hitlist will be taking a break until January, when we'll be back to address more player pet peeves!

As if the Christmas Village wasn't colourful enough, Mod Ramen has been busy in the workshop getting his GameJam project up and running! As of today's update, you'll be able to customise your Master Capes with all the colours (and shades) of the rainbow! As if that weren't enough, you can save your prettiest particles as presets. We can't wait to see what festive patterns you come up with!

Now there's even more reasons to polish off those last few achievements and earn your Cape! You can do it!

Planning to treat yourself in RuneScape this Christmas?

Community Hitlist
  • Excalibur, Enhanced Excalibur and Augmented Enhanced Excalibur now have a consistent default action (Activate) when equipped and in the Backpack. This allows Excalibur's healing special to be activated with ease.

  • Players can now use the 'Configure' option to choose whether to instead use Wield/Remove as the default action.

  • After dragging Excalibur from the Backpack to the Action Bar, you can choose which default option the Action Bar uses.

  • The 'Configure' option also lets you choose what you'd like to shout when Excalibur is activated. 'Silent' is the default option.

  • You can now hold the Shift key and click items in the Backpack to drop them (if they support dropping, of course).

  • Doubled the output of Dinarrow components (Sharp Shell Shards, Tempered Fungal Shafts, 'Propellant') from the 3 'Accidental' Fletching and Firemaking activities south of the Anachronia dinosaur farm, and entirely reworked the eggsperimentation eggtivity to support a greater range of low- to high- intensity gameplay.

  • Wherever possible, Bank chests, booths and bankers now have a Load Last Preset option. This reloads your most recent Bank preset without needing to open, populate and close your Bank interface.

  • The 'Dare to Die' song that plays at War's Retreat now fades in more gently and plays at a lower volume, so that its drum track is gentler on the ears when passing through the PvM hub.

  • A looping ambient sound of crystal chimes has been removed from the Tower of Voices and Max Guild in Prifddinas, to better suit extensive bankstanding.

  • A repetitive moan in the Zombie Walk idle animation, audible to all nearby players, has been removed.

  • A repetitive meow in the idle animation of some cats and kittens, audible to all nearby players, has been removed.

  • By player request, we've reverted the sound played during clue scans to its pre-June version.

  • The individual charges of Revenant Drop Enhancers can now be stacked in your Currency Pouch, freeing up Bank space.

  • When loading a Bank preset including items that can be filled with essence, their current contents are now emptied into the Bank before refilling them, in case they contain a different type.

  • Rebalanced and updated the rare and super-rare loot tables to remove some of the less valuable items (Runite Stone Spirits, Molten Glass and Raw Lobsters) and increase variance of items dropping in multiples.

  • Players standing on charging pads during the Zamorak boss battle when the Infernus witch dies no longer need to step off and on again to charge the pad.

  • Clarified the Start Point description for the TokTz-Ket-Dill quest.

  • Multiple items can now be added to the Keepsake Box:

  • Enhanced Boots

  • Protea Flower

  • Superior Zuriel’s Staff

  • Superior Dragon Weapons

  • Superior Rock-Shell Armour

  • Superior Spined Armour

  • Superior Skeletal Armour

  • Monkey Trinkets

  • Cake Hat

  • Mud Mask

  • Fairy Wand

  • Pendant of Lucien

  • Mining Helmet

  • Gofannon Amulet

  • Cattleprod

  • Mouse Toy

  • Elite Death Lotus Dart

  • Legatus Pendant

  • Bug Lantern

  • Imcando Hatchet

  • The list of overhead emotes can now be filtered to only show the emotes you've unlocked.

GameJam
  • Misty, in the Deep Sea Fishing hub, now has two shiny new chat options:

  • She will tell you how long it has been since the current encounter started. No more guessing how fresh the travelling merchant is!

  • If no event is currently present, she will instead tell you how long it has been since there was an encounter.

  • She will pass on the rumours of what stock the travelling merchant has that day.

  • When purchasing the items in slots 2, 3 and 4 of the travelling merchant, it would erroneously show "Locked" instead of "Sold Out" to show the items were out of stock. This has now been corrected.

  • When the game servers reboot as part of the weekly update, there was a minimum of 45 minutes before the first encounter in deep sea fishing (such as the travelling merchant) could appear. This is no longer the case and such encounters can now potentially (depending on RNG) appear immediately after a game server reboot.

Zemouregal & Vorkath
  • Lord of Bones now reduces armour at 0.2% per stack to maximum of 40%

  • Vorkath's 'Ice Circle' attack no longer damages dreadnips or Seren spell prisms.

  • Vorkath breath attack has been updated to provide better visual feedback

  • Hard mode achievements have been added for the Zemouregal & Vorkath battle.

  • Some items obtained from Battle of Forinthry reward chests are now noted.

  • Zemouregal summons spawn location changed to avoid spawning under Vorkath

  • Players now only take damage if they stop in a poison pool, however, if a poison pool spawns on them, they can mitigate damage by running to an empty square, when the pool appears.

  • If crossing a single pool they will only take damage once a player stops in it.

  • Added the Vorkath Necromancy weapon overrides to the Zemouregal and Vorkath encounter's drop table.

Vorkath, Battle for Forinthry - This Week In RuneScape

New quest, new boss, new shard hunt - can you hold the fort against Zemouregal and his ice-breathing ‘friend’?

Upon the freezing shores of Ungael, Zemouregal has awoken the ancient dragon Vorkath - now he intends to use this new-found power to wipe your Fort clean off the map. This would allow the full might of his undead armies to crash into the realms of Misthalin and sow chaos! It is up to you to stop him - with the help of denizens of Fort Forinthry…

Fight your way through a siege in the new quest Battle of Forinthry, before an epic showdown with Zemouregal and the mighty Vorkath! Completing this quest unlocks a repeat boss battle and amazing new rewards, including brand new materials for crafting the epic Dracolich Ranged Power Armour set, the new Necromancy incantation 'Invoke Lord of Bones' and of course the cutest of dragons - your new pal Vorki!

Check out our recent blog for a closer look into the fight itself - and those rewards.

Want to see what you’re getting into first? Check out our Livestream section below to find a list of streamers who will be challenging the dastardly duo on launch day!

With the release of Vorkath and the Battle of Forinthry comes the launch of an additional event, The Vorkath Hunt! Like the Golden Party Hat and Cape Hunt Events, you'll set out to collect 8 shards by completing various tasks. Doing so will earn you the Vorkath Death Guard and Lantern overrides and some sweet gameplay buffs!

  • Infinite Porters: Provides a guaranteed 'porter' effect (which transports valid items to the Bank when gathered) while the buff is active.
  • Passive Regeneration Buff: Your life points, prayer points and summoning points regenerate by 10% every 6 seconds while you're outside of combat.

Buffs can be enabled or disabled by Mr Mordaut (or Mordaut Jr) at Fort Forinthry any time after you’ve completed the hunt. The buffs are available to use for 14 days once you complete the Hunt - disabling the buff will not stop the 14-day timer that begins once you earn the buffs.

Despite the name, you don't need to fight Vorkath to complete the hunt - but it definitely helps! Here are the 12 tasks you can complete for shards:

  • Kill Vorkath & Zemouregal (infinitely repeatable until all shards have been collected).

  • Can be completed during the Battle of Forinthry quest as well as in Story, Normal and Hard mode.

  • First shard is given after one kill , subsequent shards require 30 kills.

  • Complete the Dead and Buried quest (given on login if complete before event starts).

  • Have an active Premier Membership and log in (given on login if active as the event starts).

  • Train Gathering skills.

  • Train Artisan skills.

  • Train Combat skills.

  • Train Support skills.

  • Players will be guaranteed these shards after three hours of training in each particular skill, but have a high chance to obtain them beforehand.

  • Complete steps of the treasure trails.

  • Players will be guaranteed this shard after either 90 Easy, 45 Medium, 30 Hard, 23 Elite or 18 Master steps - or a combination of the above, so feel free to do any clues!

  • Earning marks of war by defeating repeatable bosses.

  • Players will be guaranteed this shard at 2,500 Marks but have a chance to obtain it beforehand.

  • Buy for 15m coins or 5k Protean items.

  • Complete Wilderness Flash Events.

  • Players will be guaranteed this shard at 15 completed events but have a chance to obtain it beforehand.

  • Earning RuneScore.

  • Players will be guaranteed this shard at 200 Runescore but have a chance to obtain it beforehand.

  • If a player has over 31,000 Runescore already they will earn this shard on earning any Runescore.

Combat Beta Launch & Community Hitlist Strike - This Week In RuneScape

Try out the new combat beta, feel the benefits of updates from the community hitlist and check out the upcoming cookbook!

Once again we’re returning to the Community hitlist and checking off some of your most requested changes!

This time around, we’ve enabled combining Brawling Gloves of the same type, pumped up the power of the 'Feeling Pumped’ Mutator and rebalanced the cost of Slayer masks in Shattered Worlds.

We've also had the team sleuthing out the mechanics of Golden Bamboo: the introduction of the Grove updated the backend systems of Woodcutting, which meant players might encounter discrepancies, depending on the boosts and setup used. We’re pleased to say we’ve now been able to restore the flow of bamboo, so grab your axes!

We've also made improvements to Clue-solving flows, among other changes - check out the Patch Notes below for a full list.

This is the first strike of the month, but hopefully not the last. We’re aiming to bring you another strike later in November, so stay tuned!

Whether we’re battling cows in Lumbridge, the undead hordes outside Fort Forinthry, or the next big boss on the scene, combat is a core pillar of RuneScape for many of us. But with the launch of Necromancy, older combat styles like Melee, Magic and Range have started to show their age.

So, we've been considering new ways to enhance the old combat styles you know and love.

From today’s update you’ll be able to access our new Combat Beta! For the next several weeks you'll have the chance to get hands-on with some potential changes to various combat styles - and let us know what you think. We outlined the core changes in a recent blog:

Check out some of the proposed changes:

  • Enable 'Damage Potential' for all combat styles for the player:

  • This is the removal of hit chance and instead, a damage scaler based on % chance to hit (e.g. 50% = do 50% of your damage instead of having a 50% chance to miss).

  • Increase the 'Damage cap' for all combat styles (from 10,000/12,000 to 30,000).

  • Implement a simplified Critical Strike system for all combat styles:

  • Each style will have a % chance to critically strike. When you do land a critical strike, your damage is increased by your critical strike damage % - which increases with your level.

  • Critical Strike chance: 10% by default for all styles, although this could change based on Beta feedback.

  • Critical Strike damage: Same formula as Necromancy for all styles, but again, this could change based on Beta feedback (e.g. Melee could have 100% Critical Strike damage).

  • Note: Melee uses the 'Strength' stat for this.

As the Beta proceeds, we’ll look to include other changes to combat styles, and refine the identity of each style. Together we can work towards modernizing the feel and flow of combat!

Ready to give the Beta a try? Check out the main site for further instructions

Once you’ve given the changes a try, share your feedback with our team through the following channels:

Please note that not everything that is showcased in the Beta will automatically make its way into the live game. We will endeavour to work with players to refine the changes shown and bring them into the live game when they’re ready!

  • Dodgy Derek's Safecracking Stethoscope and Lockpick can no longer be purchased when you already own them.

  • You can now use the Elder God Eggs in the Senntisten Cathedral base map to replay the 20 weeks of god dialogue from the release of the Elder God Wars in 2021 (plus a pivotal scene in Eye of Het II, if you've completed that quest)!

  • To counterbalance this, Shattered Worlds monsters defeated while under the effect of Feeling Pumped award minimal combat XP, to decouple combat XP gains from unlimited adrenaline (Augmented item XP is unaffected).

  • Feeling Pumped is still listed as a positive Mutator, to maintain expected availability.

  • The Slayer Masks in the Shattered Worlds Reward Shop, particularly those of low-to-mid Slayer monsters, have reduced in cost to make them more accessible to lower-levelled players.
