Patch 16.6 is all about making Unlocks more accessible to promote flexibility and open up new lines. The bulk of our balance changes past that are to adjust for these champions' newfound accessibility. Unlocking your patch notes writers: Katie "Riot Ukime" Guo Rodger "Riot Prism" Caudill PATCH HIGHLIGHTS CHONCC’S TREASURE Choncc’s Treasure returns from March 4th to April 14th, our game mode with more loot, special items, and the only mode where you can get Choncc’s Spork as an item! - Starting champions will be selected from the entire pool of a given tier. This includes locked and unlocked champions. - Locked starting champions do not get unlocked for the player. They will still need to fulfill the requirements to get additional copies. - 7-cost champions are omitted from the starting round - Zilean, Xerath, Shurima, and Azir have been adjusted as starting champions/traits SYSTEM CHANGES: UNLOCKS While Unlocks allow for a multitude of comps to exist in the meta, their current requirements are too specific, often funneling players into more rigid/less flexible play than we would like—especially this late in a set. With that in mind, we’re taking a huge swing, making the bulk of our Unlocks far easier with the goal of allowing even more comps to exist through less stringent requirements and the potential for adapting your comp on the fly (read: more flexibility). While we’re admittedly implementing this change later than we’d like, we’re doing so with the belief that skilled play will be more expressive and with the readiness to learn from adjustments to the Unlock system that could ultimately inform future implementations and improvements on the mechanic. We’re always trying to make TFT better and we’re confident that this is a good direction to explore towards those ends. UNLOCK CONDITIONS As we make each of the champions below easier to Unlock we have follow-up balance changes to ensure their newfound access matches their rarity. Expect to see some of the more comp-specific units splashed in a wider array of comps. Things like Rift Herald can now be splashed into comps that want to play two Bruiser. Galio can now be fielded (or benched) in 5 Demacia comps that splash other units.
