Free Update #21 - Decorations | Available Now!

Hello Adventurers,

The 21st, Free Update for Green Hell is now available!

The entire team had so much fun while creating this update. We were constantly giving each other new ideas about what could also be added to it, that in its final form, there’s so much new stuff to play with! See them in the trailer below:

New mechanic: **Painting **

Yes! Now you can paint all kinds of constructions & the newly added decorations.

After you equip yourself with Paints made from different bugs and other colorful elements, you can create your Paintbrush out of some Fiber, Rope, and a Stick. That is how you can paint your base and color your furniture! Just pick a tint from our Amazonian color collection: white, blue, red, green, or yellow, and make the jungle even more vibrant!

This mechanic will work with the newly added decorations and the items that you’ve already constructed as well! So be creative, and let your imagination go wild!

New construction: Workbench

The Workbench definitely will be your new best friend with this update. It will enable crafting all different kinds of decorations for your base.

New constructions: Decorations

So… much… new… stuff… to… decorate… your… base!!!

With the use of the Workbench, you will be able to craft yourself some serious furniture items which will make your home-sweet-home even more cozy! You can craft a Table, a Chair, a Bench, a Night Stand and various Paintings to set a proper mood, or even mount some Animal Trophies to show off your hunting skills to others!

As something extra, we’ve also prepared some Rope, Leaf, and Bone Decorations for those who like pretty (or creepy!) stuff.

New constructions: Armor Stand & Arrow Holder

You’ve asked for it, and there we have it!

Thanks to these new Stands you will be able to store your Arrows securely and showcase your neatly crafted Armors on a display they deserve.

New constructions: Torch Stand & Torch Holder

Now these are constructions, we’ve been cooking for a long time. They’ve been sitting in our backlog for years now, but now we’ve got the right tools to complete them and make them shine!

You can place the Torch Holders inside your base to set a proper mood at night, and use the Torch Stands at strategic points on the map to easily direct you in the wilderness. Just remember - the torches won’t be burning forever and you will need to maintain them if you don’t want to be suddenly surrounded by the darkness of the night again.

New mechanic: Rearranging

Thanks to this new mechanic, you can rearrange the decorations you’ve created and move them to another place.

Don’t like the table standing in the corner? No problem, you can just move it to the nearby window. The painting is not looking great on that wall, huh? Just move it aside, or place it along the collection of your other paintings.

CELEBRATE WITH CAPYBARA PLUSHIE

AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM CREEPY JAR

Our adventure with Green Hell comes to an end with this free content update. Since the release of the game in the 1.0 version back in 2019, we’ve been updating it regularly with free content updates - including the huge 3-part story mode “Spirits of Amazonia”, as well as gameplay changing updates like the “Building Update” and “Storage & Transportation”, or completely new additional gameplay enriching mechanics as "Fortifications" & "Flamekeeper". And now - with teary eyes - we’ve decided to publish this one more and final update to the game and make the Green Hell experience complete.

The game won’t be getting any more new content updates on PC, but it will still be supported by our team.

We’re super grateful for your support throughout the years, for the feedback you’ve been providing us with, for the stories you’ve told us about your experience, and for the adventures you’ve lived in the game. This fueled us to provide you with even more opportunities to craft new stories and have even more adventures in Green Hell.

Now it’s time for us to prepare another adventure for you - the whole team is now working hard on our next big title. We are devoted to make it a great title fused with the experience gained and lessons learned while creating Green Hell, and the things you’ve told us you loved about our game. So we hope we will see you soon in our own new sci-fi universe - in (https://store.steampowered.com/app/1631270/StarRupture/).

Free Update #20 - Anteater | Available Now!

Hello Adventurers,

Today is the day! We are proud to announce that the Free Update #20 for Green Hell - "Anteater" is available now!

The name of our latest free update hides many more new & fresh features than the name might suggest. Alongside having added new animals to your Animal Pen, we’ve prepared a bunch of cool mechanics and enhancements to the rest of the game. See the Anteater in action in the newest trailer, and if you’d like to dive into the update’s details - see the notes below.

New animal: Giant Anteater

The most exciting part of this update is the Giant Anteater. Some call him amusing, some think he’s cute, but he can be very aggressive - so you need to watch out! Naturally, you will be able to find this beast near anthills. He’s usually shy and will try to avoid you, but when threatened - he will not hesitate to use his claws to protect himself and might deal you great damage.

New mechanic: Spawning anthills

You may remember anthills from Green Hell before, stepping inside them and getting those pesky ants crawling all over you, or collecting the ants to mend your laceration wounds. But now, anthills may also serve as your guidepost to the place anteaters hang out most.

Until now, the only thing you could have done is either avoid or harvest an anthill. But now you can also destroy them! Destroying an anthill won’t provide you with more ants, but if you find an anthill standing in your way to build something, or if it blocks your path and you keep bumping into it, you will be able to remove it. Don’t worry, though; ants will always find a new spot to build a new house for their colony, so from now on a new anthill will soon appear in a nearby area. With some more animals looking for them, including the infamous anteater and… an armadillo?!

New mechanic: New animals in your animal pen

The Animal Husbandry update introduced the ability to breed some of the animal species from the jungle. Now, we are adding even more animals to your menagerie, as you will be able to breed Armadillos, Three-banded Armadillos, and - of course - Giant Anteaters!

New construction: Composter

Thanks to this simple construction you will be able to dispose of such things as rotten meat, spoiled food, leaves, animal drops, and everything organic in general - and not necessarily only expired things! As a product of such action, you will receive compost (see more details about this new item in the section below), and insects with which you will be able to feed your pack of Armadillos and Anteaters.

New item: Compost

Show your plants some love with the new, organic, homemade superfood - Compost! Compost is the most important and most fertilizing product of the Composter. With this nutritious and rich substance, you can elevate your planting skills to a higher level!

New construction: Feeding Trough - Insects

As you now have some new pals to take care of in your animal pen, you will need a way to feed them. By using this new construction, you will be able to feed anteaters and armadillos with insects. Bon appétit!

New mechanic: Parrot keeping

Now you can lure parrots into your base - or any other place where you build a Parrot Nest - where parrots can fly into and become accustomed to your presence.

New construction: Parrot Nest

When you manage to get parrots safe and comfy in your Parrot Nest, you will be rewarded with feathers and eggs left by the birds.

And that’s all in this #20 free content update! As usual, thank you so much for supporting the game. We welcome all your thoughts and feedback on our discord server.

Last but not least, keep your eyes peeled for our next update for Green Hell! Be sure it will make your Amazonian home super cozy!

Happy anteating! Creepy Jar Team

PS. Aside from supporting Green Hell with new free updates, we're hard at work on our next title, StarRupture. Being built in Unreal Engine 5, StarRupture is an ambitious cross between base building, exploration, combat, and resource management on an alien planet torn by a catastrophic cycle of destruction. See what we're up to with StarRupture over here, where we’ve lately published our devlog about building your base.

Update #19 - Flamekeeper | Available Now!

Hello Adventurers,

We’re excited to announce “Flamekeeper” - our 19th free content update, now available for Green Hell on PC!

Our previous update - “Fortifications”, was just a prelude to what we’ve been working on - the long-awaited “combat update”. By providing you the possibility to create fences, palisades, and gates, we wanted to create ways for strategically fortifying your base and yourself from various enemies and wild animal attacks. With “Flamekeeper”, you should level up your skill and make new defenses to keep the flame alive!

New construction: Eternal Flame

The main hero of our update - the Eternal Flame Totem! With this new construction that you can create in Waraha Villages, you will be able to launch the Ritual of Flame.

New gameplay mechanics: Ritual of Flame

Improve your Totem by gathering the necessary materials and launching the Ritual of Flame. Survive the enemy horde and its attack, stop them from extinguishing the Eternal Flame, and receive an award. Think fast or create your strategy - get the help of your friends, and create advanced fortifications, which we added in the previous update.

New enemy attack type: Wasp Nest

In the previous update, we’ve added improvements to the enemy's AI. Now we’re boosting their abilities even further with their new skill. When they aren’t able to reach you - they will unleash their new attack! By throwing the wasp nest, they will be able to lure you out of your “stronghold”. Hiding on a tree or an upper floor or your base won’t be so easy now, huh?

New weapon: War Club

Survive all 50 stages of the Flamekeeper Challenge and receive a unique award: “War Club” -** the most powerful weapon in the game so far**!

We know our community is super skilled and creative, so we can’t wait to read your stories and see your photos & videos on how you’re fighting against the enemy's attack waves to keep the totem flame safe. Share your records on social media with #GreenHell, or tell us on our Discord to which wave you’ve managed to level up your Flamekeeper.

Follow Green Hell on Steam to be the first to know about the upcoming new content, and join our Discord to chat with us and our awesome community, where you can share screenshots of your newly fortified bases & Eternal Flames.

Update #18 - Fortifications | Available now

Hello Adventurers,

We’re happy to announce our brand-new 18th content update to Green Hell titled “Fortifications”, which is AVAILABLE NOW to all Green Hell players on Steam!

If you remember our latest roadmap, the next big update will be based on the fight against the enemy tribes. During its development, we discovered it was hard to imagine how to defend a base without proper defensive structures. That is why with this newest update we’re bringing new constructions that will help you in working on new defense strategies. Are you annoyed that anyone can enter and even try to destroy your cherished base? Wait no more!

Fences

The first of the new upgrades we’re bringing live is the ability to build simple fences made from wood or bamboo. They are not the most durable of the bunch but they are a good choice if you’re short of supplies.

Palisades

If you prefer to build something even more **solid and sturdy **- we got you covered! With wooden and bamboo palisades you can wall yourself away from most of the dangers that await you in the wilderness.

Gates

No base feels complete without a proper gate! Select from wooden and bamboo gates - remember to close them, you don’t want to get caught in a draught!

Lookout platforms

Do you like to lurk on your uninvited guests? You can always wait on them with a warm soup or a drawn bow on the new ramp construction - you know, it’s always better to have a higher ground!

Enemies AI improvements

If you like to play hide and seek with enemies - it won’t be so easy now, as tribesmen will be able to enter low structures built by the player. So watch out - they may get to you while you are on platforms floating on water or the ones built on the ground. We are very curious about what you think about this change, let us know on our Discord channel.

More to come!

This is** just a prelude **to what we’re cooking up for Green Hell… In addition to all the new content added to Green Hell with Update #18, we’ve implemented general optimization fixes that will broaden our horizons for further development of the game. Stay tuned for more info regarding future updates😉

Follow Green Hell on Steam to be the first to know about the upcoming new content and join our Discord to chat with us and our awesome community, where you can share screenshots of your newly fortified bases.

Stay cozy in your new fortresses!

Storage & Transportation Update is out now!

Dear Adventurers!

The Storage & Transportation Update is officially live and available for free for all Steam players!

As many of Green Hell’s most experienced players know, efficiency is of the utmost importance if you want to survive in the Amazon jungle. To stay efficient, your base needs perfect space management which improves the process of gathering the necessary food supplies or materials. In addition, every trip across the rainforest puts you in untold danger, so why make more trips than is needed?

Storage and Transportation patch will help you with that, so just check out what's new:

Sled

A great tool for transporting heavy objects. What’s more, you can put up to two different types of Heavy Objects in one Sled.

_We know how much players like to build vast and complex bases. Resources near the base may quickly run out and you have to go deeper and deeper into the jungle for materials. We decided to speed up material transport by adding sleds, to help our players spend more time building and less time running around for materials. _

Elevator

Treehouse or multi-story villa, the elevator is the new easier way of transporting heavy resources up and down.

In the last building update, we added new construction to build a treehouse. We noticed that transporting a large amount of materials to the upper floors using a ladder is inconvenient, so we decided to add a new construction - an elevator.

Shelf and Hanging Shelf

A new type of universal storage, in which you can unpack most of the items from your Backpack - excluding weapons and building materials such as sticks (they still need to be put on dedicated stands). Thanks to the new shelves, you can see the status of your stock at a glance.

We felt that there should be a universal storage for smaller items in Green Hell, where you can see what items it contains without interaction and from a distance. This type of shelf is also aesthetic and looks nice in the base.

Quick Pick Up

With the option to turn off animation delay for picking up items you no longer have to wait for animation to complete to pick another item. The faster you click, the faster you pick.

After adding the elevator and sled, we noticed that the delay in the pick-up animation was disrupting the dynamics of the resource harvesting process. That's why we decided to remove this delay. However, during our beta testing, we received feedback that this change affects immersion for some players, so we decided to add the option to disable this improvement in the game options.

Baskets

A reworked version of the Small and Big Stone Stands are renamed to Baskets and now can hold various types of objects, such as stones, bones, planks, green coconuts, and more.

As we aim for immersion we thought that the stone basket looks like it can hold similar items, so instead of making new types, we decided to make our stone stands more versatile. Now you can choose what to use it for.

New Bamboo versions of Stands

Every storage construction now has its bamboo version.

Since The Building Update, we have been trying to give players the opportunity to build their base using any materials. We noticed some wooden structures did not have their bamboo counterparts at all. So, while working on Storage and Transportation Update we wanted to improve the storage system as well by adding a missing bamboo stands.

One universal Leaf Stand

Leaf Stand now has two slots. You can choose what materials you want to stack in each slot: Banana or Palm leaves.

Universal Wood Stands

Stands for logs and sticks made of bamboo or wood can store both wood and bamboo materials in each, e.g. wooden materials can be stored in bamboo racks.

So far, the rack system has been very restrictive. For example, to store a Bamboo Log, the player had to build a rack using the same material. It wasn't exactly the optimal solution. So we decided to give players a little more freedom and the ability to change the type of stored material when the structure is already built.

Increased capacity of Stands

All stands have now increased capacity.

Since The Building Update, we've been trying to encourage players to build bigger and bigger bases. After playtests, it turned out that the current capacity of material storage structures is simply too small and players have to devote more and more space for these structures.

Pre Update Beta of the Storage & Transportation Update is live now!

Hey Adventurers, A new update, Storage & Transportation is getting near to its Steam release (date yet to be revealed), and starting today, all of you can test its contents in the new Pre Update Beta! And there are great new features & enhancements to be tested:

  • Sled - a new addition for transporting heavy objects which won’t fit in your Backpack. You can put two different types of Heavy Objects in one Sled,

  • Elevator - a new, easier way of transporting heavy resources to both upper floors of your base and to Tree Houses,

  • Shelf - a new type of universal storage, that you can unpack most of the items from your Backpack - excluding weapons and sticks,

  • Hanging Shelf - now you can add more storage space with the first wall add-ons,

  • Small Storage Basket - a new improved version of the Small Stone Stand. It can hold various types of objects: Stone, Obsidian Stone, Charcoal, Bone, Plank,

  • Large Storage Basket - a new improved version of the Big Stone Stand. It can hold various types of heavy objects such as: Big Stone, Green Coconut, Mud Brick,

Major changes in storage:

  • More universal Stands and Storages: one universal Leaf Stand can store both Banana and Palm leaves. Also applies to the Log Stand, the Stick Stand and the Long Stick Stand,

  • New Bamboo versions of Stands: every storage construction has now its bamboo version,

  • Increased capacity of Stands: some older Stands, such as the Rope Stand, have now extended capacity,

  • Improved item storing & removing mechanic: now you can place an item in storage with a single button, and take it out with another,

  • Removed animation delay for picking up items: you no longer have to wait for animation to complete to pick another item. The faster you click, the faster you pick,

  • Improved Blueprint Snapping System: you should be able to aim and snap your construction blueprints to already existing constructions more precisely.

To take part in the Storage & Transportation Pre Update Beta (PUB), you need to:

  • have Green Hell added to your Steam library - and downloaded as well,
  • click the right mouse button on it, and choose “Properties”,
  • in the popup choose option “Betas”, then enter beta access code: “LoveYourCapybara”, and select “GH_PUB” branch,
  • now you can play the Storage & Transportation Update contents before their release - in the Pre Update Beta access!
  • If you still can't see the GH_PUB branch after checking the code in, please restart the Steam client and try again. **Please note that you won’t be able to move saves between your main game and PUB. **

Since the PUB is still a work in progress, it is not impossible that you may experience crashes - this is when some specific commands will appear in the left-bottom part of the screen. Whenever that happens - please save your progress and restart the game.

The whole point of beta tests is to get your honest feedback - what you love, and what not-so-much regarding the Storage & Transportation Update contents so far. We’ve added even more ways to receive your feedback than earlier:

  • as you close the game on the testing branch, a Google Forms questionnaire will appear. There’s a set of questions dedicated to every new feature and improvement, and your answers will be helpful to determine whether are they easy to build, and use, simply, do they serve their purpose, #dev-chat with the current Project Lead of Green Hell, working in Creepy Jar for more than 6 years. From the very early stage of the development he was always at the front line, taking care of testing, design, and management. Currently leading a team that takes care of all new content added to Green Hell.** Jacek will be online for your questions on the 12th of July at 5 PM CEST / 4 PM BST / 8 AM Pacific for 60 minutes,**
  • beyond all of that, we’re waiting for your feedback in comments, in the dedicated thread, at support@creepyjar.com, and on #beta-tests on Green Hell Discord server!

Thanks to the survey results and your opinions gathered from the Discord channel and the Steam thread together, we’ll shape the final Storage & Transportation Update experience, which we plan to release in just a few weeks!

Stay sane on the treetops, Creepy Jar Team
