Cow Boss
First revealed at the Winter Summit 2026, the Cow Boss - awaited with udder excitement - has now moooooooved into Gielinor!
The Ides of Milk
To gain access to the Cow Boss, you first need to complete the quest, The Ides of Milk. Northwest of Lumbridge stands Cassius near the lake, a farmer fellow with a bucket of milk in his hand and a plan to build his own milk empire in his heart. You butter help this fellow get into the milk market in Lumbridge to unlock the boss!
This early-game quest is free-to-play, perfect for budding adventurers to tackle through their journey in Lumbridge, where they first start exploring Gielinor.
Head to Northwest Lumbridge for the quest start point. If you can’t see the image above, click (https://cdn.runescape.com/assets/img/external/oldschool/2026/Newsposts/2026-02-25/location.png)!

Quest Rewards
Once you've completed the quest, you'll unlock:
- Access to the Cow Boss
- Cow Bell Amulet (untradeable)
- XP Lamp providing 1000 XP in any combat Skill, including Prayer.
You can get the Cow Bell Amulet and the XP Lamp by talking to Gillie Groats who can be found inside the cow farm in Lumbridge. This is a handy teleport item landing you right into the iconic east cow pen, meaning you won't have to hoof it back to Lumbridge. Charged with Air Runes, this will give early game players a nice new teleport that will make travel a little bit nicer. It also lets you milk cows 1 tick quicker (6 instead of 7 ticks per milk). Very powerful, we know.

Cow Boss Fight and Rewards
The Cow Boss is located at the Northeast corner of the Lumbridge cow farm. If you can’t see the image above, click (https://cdn.runescape.com/assets/img/external/oldschool/2026/Newsposts/2026-02-25/cowbosslocation.png)!
After finishing The Ides of Milk, you'll be able to take on the Cow Boss, created for the sole purpose of a true 'low-level' boss. This boss is designed so that it can be fought as early as your first few hours into your Gielinor journey, unlike Scurrius where new players still have some work to do before getting a proper feel for combat in Old School. Cow boss isn't too challenging, just make sure to stay light on your feet and watch your flank... your life is at steak!
Cow Boss is also a repeatable boss, and it's free-to-play just like the quest.
Now, let's take a look at the udderly delightful rewards dropped by the Cow Boss!
If you can’t see the image above, click (https://cdn.runescape.com/assets/img/external/oldschool/2026/Newsposts/2026-02-25/cowbossrewards.png)!
T-bone Steak (Tradeable) and Bull Bones (Untradeable)
The most consistent drops of the boss is a new consumable in the form T-bone Steak, a great new food for low-level accounts. It heals 10 Hitpoints and Level 13 Cooking is required to cook it.
The other consistent drop is the Bull Bones, which works similarly to the Giant Bones from Obor and Bryophita, but giving 40 Prayer XP.
Both the T-bone Steak and Bull Bones are available for free-to-play.
Mooleta (Untradeable)
Get the udder-hand and give yourself a nice early game boost in Melee Strength as you wield the deadly Mooleta. With stats equivalent to a Steel Defender, this will be a great early introduction to off-hands being pretty bloody good.
Mooleta is also available for free-to-play, however note that the rest of the rewards we're listing below are members-only.
Cow Slippers (Tradeable)
The first of the uniques from the brute are the Cow Slippers, which are sure to help you stand out from the herd. Peak fashionscape! They come in four colourways, matching the cows you can find throughout Gileinor.
If you can’t see the image above, click (https://cdn.runescape.com/assets/img/external/oldschool/2026/Newsposts/2026-02-25/slippers.png)!

Bottomless Milk Bucket (Untradeable)
Are you tired of keeping all of your milk in separate places? Have you always wanted a centralised, unlimited space for all of your milk-based products? Look no further than the Bottomless Milk Bucket! This elite container gives you just that and let you upgrade everybody’s favourite grind: Butter Churning.
Beef the Pet
If you can’t see the image above, click (https://cdn.runescape.com/assets/img/external/oldschool/2026/Newsposts/2026-02-25/beef.png)!
Finally, the boss drops a pet: Beef! Ain't no one could have beef with this cutie.
Cow Boss Combat Achievements
Combat Achievements have also landed for Cow Boss on its launch, since this is a pretty straight forward boss.

Hard Mode Cow Boss Fight
Down for a high-steaks fight instead? We dairyou to take on the Hard Mode Cow Boss! This members-only version has increased stats and requires much harder mechanics to take on.
Note that Desert Treasure II completion is required to find the necessary item to start the Hard Mode Cow Boss encounter, and no, it isn't an Awakener's Orb. Enjoy exploring!
More Changes from the Getting Around Poll
We're picking up where we left off with the changes from the Getting Around Poll along with some QoL improvements. For changes we've already released from the Poll, you can check out here and (https://secure.runescape.com/m=news/a=97/deadman-annihilation-tweaks-shellbane-gryphon-cas--more?oldschool=1).
Quetzal Whistle Unlimited Charges
We've added an unlimited-use option for the Perfected Quetzal Whistle, giving you the ability to upgrade it to hold unlimited charges. This can be unlocked by trading in 10,000 teleport charges worth of Hunter meat to Soar Leader Pitri, providing a permanent, charge-free version of the whistle once earned.
If you can’t see the image above, click (https://cdn.runescape.com/assets/img/external/oldschool/2026/Newsposts/2026-02-25/pitri.png)!
As part of the Getting Around Poll feedback, you reminded us that the unlimited Quetzal Whistle changes were promised in a blog in September 2023, and we can only apologise for the delay. Thanks for sticking with us on this one and for holding us accountable, we appreciate your patience.
Portal Nexus Additions
We've added the following missing teleports to the Portal Nexus:
- Trollheim (Standard)
- Paddewwa (Ancient)
- Lassar (Ancient)
- Dareeyak (Ancient)
- Ourania (Lunar)
- Barbarian (Lunar)
- Khazard (Lunar)
- Ice plateau (Lunar)
- Respawn (Arceuus)
- Teleport to boat (Standard)
This means you can now add all available teleports to your Teleport Nexus and Portal Room, allowing you to teleport everywhere from your POH.
These function exactly like before:
- Adding a teleport to the Portal Nexus costs 1,000 times the normal cost.
- All spellbook and level requirements still apply. Revenant Caves Teleport Changes The Revenant Cave Teleport scroll now allows you to select any of the cave’s entrances, giving you quicker access to the area you actually want to reach. This should be particularly useful for players who prefer to play it a bit safer and start at the southern end of the caves, rather than the northern entrance.
How does this work?
By default, nothing changes. Left-clicking the teleport will continue to take you to the northern entrance. But we've added a 'Configure' option to the Scroll, which you can access by right-clicking on it.
If you can’t see the image above, click (https://cdn.runescape.com/assets/img/external/oldschool/2026/Newsposts/2026-02-25/config.png)!
With this, you're now able to manually choose a preferred entrance...
If you can’t see the image above, click (https://cdn.runescape.com/assets/img/external/oldschool/2026/Newsposts/2026-02-25/entrance.png)!
...and set it to send you to your last used entrance.
If you can’t see the image above, click (https://cdn.runescape.com/assets/img/external/oldschool/2026/Newsposts/2026-02-25/options.png)!
This configuration would also apply when teleporting via the Master Scroll Box.
If you can’t see the image above, click (https://cdn.runescape.com/assets/img/external/oldschool/2026/Newsposts/2026-02-25/master_scroll.png)!
Pickpocketed Runes and the Rune Pouch
Runes obtained from pickpocketing are now placed directly into your Rune Pouch, provided it has space and can already store that Rune type. If not, Runes will continue to go into your inventory as usual. No more steady trickle of runes filling up your inventory when pickpocketing certain NPCs!
Additionally, if you're carrying your Rune Pouch while whizzing around the Hallowed Sepulchre, any runes looted from coffins will now be sent straight into your Pouch. Expanding the Herb Sack and Sarachnis Instance You can now upgrade your existing Herb Sack into the Silklined Herb Sack, which can store up to 100 of each grimy herb (up from the Herb Sack's limit of 30). This should allow you to extend your PvM trips and cut down on unnecessary banking!
But how to achieve this upgrade?
To obtain the upgrade, you need a new untradeable item: Pristine Spider Silk, dropped by Sarachnis. Using the silk on a standard Herb Sack will consume the Herb Sack and permanently upgrade it into a Silklined Herb Sack.
If you can’t see the image above, click (https://cdn.runescape.com/assets/img/external/oldschool/2026/Newsposts/2026-02-25/silklined.png)!
A few extra details:
- The Silklined Herb Sack has a distinct visual appearance, clearly setting it apart from the standard version.
- You can own only one Herb Sack at a time, whether standard or upgraded.
- Extra Pristine Spider Silk drops can be traded with Brother Aimeri located in the Forthos Dungeon for Grubby Keys, so duplicate drops aren’t wasted.
During the feedback gathering process, you shared concerns about increased competition for worlds and excessive world-hopping would be a major frustration. To address that, we're offering an optional instanced version of Sarachnis alongside this change. You can now gain access to private instances of Sarachnis by paying a fee of 25,000 GP. If you've completed Hard Tier Sarachnis Combat Achievements though, this amount will be reduced to 12,500 GP.
This should allow
