Update 1.20 Operation: Clear Sight – Release Notes

Hello soldiers!

Welcome to the release notes for Update 1.20 Operation: Clear Sight! This update features two new sights, new difficult challenges to grind, mod editor improvements, and new cosmetics for both factions!

First things first, take a look at our upcoming new map, Hold, coming next update (Update 1.21 Operation: ███████). Inspired by Ministry, it features a police station caught in a violent takeover by Insurgent forces. WIP images below!

MOD EDITOR IMPROVEMENTS

Insurgency's origins are deeply rooted in modding. Starting as a mod for the Source engine, Insurgency: Modern Infantry Combat led to a standalone sequel released in 2014 that we’re sure many of you are familiar with, called Insurgency, and then on to Insurgency: Sandstorm.

It's important to remember our roots, and mod support is one way of fulfilling that for the team. We know the modding community has felt left behind in recent years, especially as the release on consoles led our focus to expand. We know the modding tools have been deteriorating.

This leads us to today. We have been working with many from the modding community over the last two updates to address issues flagged for us as important and to add features that should help make even cooler stuff. This one's been coming for a long time, including addressing requests like access to our Wwise project, which is included in this update. This grants modders more creative freedom when incorporating custom sounds into their projects. A guide is available to help mod creators here.

Additionally, we've taken significant steps to improve the content-creation experience in the editor. Modders can now upload mods larger than 2GB directly through the editor. This should help streamline the publishing process. Because the workflow has changed, we've created a guide that walks through the process of creating, uploading, and updating mods.

Finally, we’d like to acknowledge members of the modding community who have stood by us throughout the years. They have spent countless hours creating awesome content that many of you know, including maps from our mapping contest, like Prison and Last Light.

The ISMC Team, The SAGAS Team, The Sandstorm 1944 Team, The Project Reimagined Team, TOCA_, RareKiwi, Deerslug, Reeecompile, Scotify, VIX, WintorOperator, Tisa13, =Freddy=, Peglegswansoon, Heromanofe, invalidnick, D3M0N123, TayLord, Jason, \ Tazzy, fatmarrow, Zapatista, Juu, Flaykes, SpartanViperz, Snakeyio, GamerChick5567, 2Happy, LeiMuu, Pyr4mus, Jojo6393457, SgtPepper_47, -TrashCan-, B4NDO, Destinate, Comrade Romanov, Smkndrtz, JustARadish, Dr House, CrazTheKing, Prof. Orribilus, tarAn-OD, \k24uk.

Thank you to each of you.

TIER 3 CHALLENGES ARE HERE

In our previous update, Operation: Shell Shock, we introduced Challenges as a way for players to earn rewards while playing Insurgency: Sandstorm. We’re building on top of that foundation by introducing Tier 3 Challenges. These will raise the bar with more demanding objectives built for those ready to prove their experience and skill.

Here are a few challenges that you can expect to have to grind for:

  • Kill 500 enemies with Fire Support as a Commander.

  • Win 100 rounds without dying (good luck!).

  • Perform 500 headshots with a sidearm.

NEW OPTICS

As the operation name implies, we are expanding weapon customization by introducing two new CQB-focused optics that can be used across all your existing loadouts. These new attachments support close-quarters gameplay and are designed to be effective across a variety of maps and situations, including future environments.

New Security Optic: Romero 8T

Built for durability, the Romero 8T sight provides a crisp, wide-window sight picture in any environment.

Update 1.19 Operation: Shell Shock - Hotfix 1

Hey everyone!

We hope you’re enjoying the new update! The team has been working hard since the release of Operation: Shell Shock to identify key issues that are impacting player experience that require our attention. In addition to the fixes included in this hotfix, we’ve applied several backend improvements to matchmaking that should alleviate some of the issues that began in September, such as servers not properly repopulating (also known as “lobby decay”) and players getting stuck on “Preparing Server” indefinitely. We are also keeping a close eye on the IED, something’s up with that thing; that must be why they call it “improvised”, huh.

Thank you for your continued support!

PLAYLIST CHANGES

Starting November 17, 2025, we are moving Ambush and Skirmish away from the permanent playlists to the time-limited playlist. As of now, these game modes are consistently the two least popular. Our goal here is to concentrate the player base within our core game modes to hopefully further alleviate issues with finding servers in less populated regions.

NEW PVP LTGM: FIRST BLOOD

With the release of the new M250 and H21 light machine guns, we want to give players a fun and focused environment to explore what these weapons offer. That's where First Blood comes in. It's a nod to the gritty 80’s action films that inspired the tone of Operation: Overrun.

This limited-time PvP mode strips things down to LMGs and sidearms only, throwing players into chaotic engagements that play to these weapons' strengths: suppressive fire and raw stopping power. We think it offers a great opportunity to get a feel for these new LMGs.

Cosmetic Patches

We’ve added brand new Overrun-themed cosmetic patches to both factions so you can bring the heat in style!

The following patches will be available at launch:

Security Patches

  • Operation: Overrun

  • Unstoppable

  • Rotorhead

  • Support is close

  • Unseen

  • Hard Landing

Insurgent Patches

  • Rebel

  • Hello

  • Wolverine

  • Tiger eye

  • Molotov throw

IMPROVEMENTS
Lighting Changes

In our ongoing mission to improve visibility, we determined that the lighting on Citadel was too dark, leading to frustrating moments where players couldn't always spot their opponents in the heat of battle. We've updated the lighting to make the map brighter overall while maintaining the mood and atmosphere that give Citadel its unique feel.

PLAYLIST CHANGES
Defusal

Defusal mode didn’t quite reach the popularity we’d hoped for, so we’re rotating it into LTGM for now. This change will help us make space to give our new permanent mode, Skirmish, the attention and visibility it deserves.

Free For All

We’re also moving Free For All to the LTGM category, where its fast-paced, arcadey gameplay fits better alongside similar modes.

Update 1.17 Operation: Resurgence - Release Notes

Hello again soldiers!

Welcome to the release notes for Update 1.17 Operation: Resurgence! The leaves are bare, the smell of snow is in the air, and if you’re anything like us you’ve already eaten enough snacks to incapacitate a small herd of reindeer. What better way to celebrate this holiday season than another major update from the military FPS that just won’t quit! (You may have said, “presents that I asked for” or even “spending time with my loved ones” but we’ve crunched the numbers and it turns out this update is the best way.)

GLOBAL CROSSPLAY! 🎉

Buckle up folks, it’s happening, CROSSPLAY IS HERE! It’s been a long time coming and we are incredibly happy to be rolling this feature out to you! So, without further ado let’s get to the explaining part because we’re sure you have a lot of questions!

What is crossplay?

Well you see, when two people love each other very much, sometimes they......what’s that? Oh not the…..uh-huh…..ok right. Got it. AS WE WERE SAYING, crossplay is a new feature that will allow PSN, Xbox Live, and PC players to play together!

How does it work?

Starting with Update 1.17 Operation: Resurgence you will see a “Matchmaking settings” option in place of the “Region settings” option. By selecting it, you will have the following options to choose from:

  • Your preferred input device from your connected devices (Mouse & Keyboard or Gamepad).

  • An option to either enable or disable Cross-Play.

  • An option to match with players using different input devices.

  • Your selected regions.

Once you’ve filled in your matchmaking settings, you will be matched according to your chosen options!

👀 For more information see our handy-dandy crossplay FAQ!
