A quick word on this update:

This is yet another milestone passed with a long awaited HUD replacement that finally brings RaceRoom into the modern age. This is a direct benefit of our research and development on our future engine. That is right, we have been busy: behind the scenes, we at KW Studios are building a brand new backend for the RaceRoom service, a full revamp of the menus, and a brand new rendering engine for the game client. None of those are quite ready yet, but we couldn't wait to put some of the results we got into your hands. So this update brings the first big piece forward: a brand new, modern HUD built on a scratch-made UI renderer.

The new HUD

Let me start with a bit of background. The HUD overlays and the dashboard displays inside our cars all run on a piece of technology called Scaleform. It's a Flash-based system, it's been with RaceRoom since the very beginning in 2013, and it's old and obsolete. We've known for a long time that it would need to go eventually not only because of a new rendering engine on the way, but also because of the complexity to maintain it. I've been wishing for that HUD to finally change style for so long now, but we couldn't do much about it until very recently where we managed to setup Adobe Animate to work on that legacy code and started poking at it with some success: we released the LRT NXT1 and the Alpine cars that came with a 1:1 replica of their real dashboards, made in Flash. We were pleased with the result of that experiment so we figured we'd do the same for any new car coming out. And this was the plan until just a few weeks ago when we fairly easily managed to plug the new UI renderer we have been building for the future engine into our current dx9 codebase. And so just a few weeks ago, we started rebuilding the HUD, and the first iteration is now in your hands! That breakthrough also meant we reshuffled our priorities. I have to walk back on a statement I made previously that any new car will come with a brand new dashboard. The new plan now is to bring those data displays into the new tech, convert them all away from scaleform in future updates. New data displays will then be made straight up in the new tech. We already have some experimental conversion scripts that could make this process go quickly, so I'm rather optimistic. We believe that this approach gives you the most value the soonest and makes the most sense overall.

We will be listening to your feedback and requests for tweaks and new features, of course, so make sure to join our Discord and share your feedback on this new HUD!

So what's actually in it?

In short? Far more than the old HUD ever let us dream of. We have a lot of widgets and every single one of these can be moved, scaled and toggled on or off independently, so you build the layout that suits you:

A quick tour

First of all, it's customisable. You can press a binding to "Move and Resize HUD Elements" and every element turns into a labelled box you can drag anywhere on screen, resize to taste, or switch off entirely. A button to Reset the HUD elements is also available.

Various new elements are available:

  • MFD ( multi-function display ) carries several pages of info: a Relative page, a Laptimes page, a Vehicle page as well as the Pit page

  • Tyres has everything you want to know about tyre temperatures, pressures, wear, brake temperatures, and how much dirt you've picked up on each tyre.

  • Standings shows your lap times in qualifying, the running order in a race, and the leaderboard in a time attack.

  • Timing shows your position, current lap number, sector info as well as a reminder of your last lap and best laps.

  • Instruments is the cluster: gear, speed, revs, vehicle condition, ABS and TC activity, DRS and more.

  • Status Strip gathers all notifications like slowdowns, invalidated laps, etc.

  • Message Log gathers multiplayer chat and system messages.

Then we have elements that were already present but were re-implemented and enhanced:

  • Delta is the live gap to your best lap of the session.

  • Track Map shows everyone's position around the circuit, now with multiclass colours so you can read a mixed field at a glance.

  • Starting Lights is the red-light race start sequence.

  • Virtual Mirror just as before, for when your real mirrors are out of FoV.

  • Radar is the proximity radar for close-quarters racing.

  • Input Meter traces your steering, throttle, brake and clutch.

  • FFB Graph shows your force feedback output and any clipping.

More dedicated server optimizations!

Alongside the HUD and general UI renderer, we've been making huge progress on eliminating another element of frustration: that strange ceiling of around 38 players we could never reliably push past on a single dedicated server.

It seems we have managed to unlock more potential in recent optimization passes. We've changed how position updates are sent. Instead of blasting every car's position to everyone at full rate, the server now works out what is actually relevant to you. Cars within 150 meters of you update at the full rate while cars far away on the other side of the circuit drop to around 25% rate, because you can't see them anyway and your game client fills the gaps smoothly.

On a 20 car grid it cuts the position traffic the server has to send by about 43%. At 40 cars it's around 60%. We have only reached 50 players during our last impromptu test with the members of the RaceRoom Discord server but in theory, the gains at 99 cars should be about 68%.

Now we want to find our new ceiling.

We'd like to run a scheduled Nürburgring multiclass event, in two stages:

  • A test session. Announced in advance, everyone welcome, and the only goal is to fill every slot we can and try and have fun until something starts melting down or we see smoke coming out.

  • A real race. Once we know where the new safe limit sits, we run an actual multiclass race at the biggest grid we're confident holds up.

Keep an eye on the Discord and our channels for dates.

The most up to date Norschleife in simracing!

The Nordschleife has had a proper pass to match its current real-world state. This update comes for free for all players who own the Nordschleife in RaceRoom. Here is the full list of changes:

  • Tourist parking overhauled: updated posters, updated parking and exit gates

  • New buildings added, along with EV charging stations

  • A new exit road added before the entry

  • Hohenrain chicane: driving line moved closer to the barrier

  • Hatzenbach: higher kerbs on entry and exit

  • Pflanzgarten 2 hill: re-profiled

  • Extra grass grid at Piff-Paff, Exmühle, Eiskurve and the Small Carousel

  • Green carpets removed at the GP track and Hohe Acht, with the barrier brought closer there too

  • Breidscheid: new banners, plus the orange wall marker that was missing

  • Brünnchen: the kerb is now modelled in 3D at 3cm high (it was flat before)

  • Lots of new asphalt, with some new markings

  • T13: EV charging added

  • Plus various other tweaks to the surroundings

Monza rubbered up

The free update we're pushing to Monza is an interesting story. After the real circuit's last resurface and track work, we pushed out a free update to match it, and in the game it came out looking spotless, as the track looked in real life just after the rework. That was accurate for about a week. In reality the freshly painted kerbs rubbered in fast, so that pristine look was out of date almost immediately. So we've updated Monza again to reflect where it actually is now: worn paint, rubbered-up kerbs, and the general lived-in look of a track that's seen plenty of running.

We all hope you'll enjoy this update and we look forward to your feedback on our discord!

I know that from my side I'm really proud of the hard work pulled off by our tiny team of awesome developers!

Keep pushing,

J-F Chardon

Today's update brings DTM Esports 2026 to Ranked Multiplayer as the first championship in the new format, a rebuilt side draft model, a first round of rework on dedicated server performance, and a set of GT3 physics ahead of DTM esports.

Championship mode in Ranked Multiplayer

There's a new Championships tab in the Ranked Multiplayer menu, and DTM Esports 2026 is the first championship to appear there. This is the first time a full championship structure lives inside Ranked, so the layout will most likely be evolving as we see how it's used. Make sure you share your feedback on the interface with us on (https://discord.gg/raceroom).

Side draft, rebuilt

Moritz Löhner flagged to me on Discord a couple weeks ago that side-by-side situations weren't behaving right, which kicked off an investigation, and you got the result of this rework in today's update.

The physics model now properly separates three cases: clean air, the slipstream behind a car, and the side draft alongside it. Sitting in another car's slipstream still gives you reduced drag, and the leading car's own drag drops slightly as you fill the low pressure area behind it. The new part is the side draft itself. When you pull up alongside and slightly behind the car ahead, roughly half to three quarters of a car length back, that leading car picks up extra drag. The car doing the overtaking isn't penalized.

The effect is strongest when the two cars are close together side to side and fades smoothly as the gap opens up. On a long straight, the car being overtaken loses a bit of top end while you're alongside it, which changes how side-by-side runs and late braking into the next corner play out.

A couple real life examples of side-draft in action:

Dedicated server bandwidth

This is the first part of a wider rework of netcode performance. From today, each dedicated server uses less bandwidth. CPU usage is the next area being worked on, with the longer term goal of larger online grids without giving up stability. As we have a lot of priorities lined up, we don't have a precise timeline to share at this point for the delivery of that CPU pass.

RaceRoom Q1 2026 Update – 3 New Cars, 2 New Tracks & New Spa-Francorchamps

This update delivers a fully rebuilt Spa-Francorchamps, three new cars including a brand-new free addition, two Italian circuits, a major improvement to steering wheel compatibility, and continued HUD modernization.

Three New Cars
Alpine A110 Cup – FREE for All Players

The Alpine A110 Cup joins RaceRoom as a new **free **car for all players.

Built for the Alpine Europa Cup, this purpose-built customer race car delivers:

  • 1.8 L 4-cylinder

  • 280 hp

  • 6-speed paddle shift

  • 1135 kg race weight with driver

  • Mid-engine, rear-wheel drive layout

Lightweight and agile, the A110 Cup focuses on mechanical grip and clean driving technique. It rewards precision and momentum rather than aggression. It is an ideal platform for close spec racing and driver development.

Alpine A110 GT4+

The Alpine A110 GT4+ represents Alpine’s international customer racing platform built to GT4 regulations.

Key characteristics:

  • 340 hp

  • 6-speed paddle shift

  • Racing limited-slip differential

  • Full GT4 aero package with rear wing and splitter

  • 1255 kg with driver

Compared to the Cup car, the GT4+ adds aerodynamic sensitivity and setup depth. It competes directly against established GT4 machinery and is suited for both sprint and endurance formats.

NXT Gen Cup – LRT NXT1

The LRT NXT1 is the world’s first fully electric junior touring race car used in a single-make championship.

Developed and built by Lestrup Racing Team and based on the electric MINI Cooper SE platform, it features:

  • 100 percent electric FWD drivetrain

  • 226 hp

  • Push-to-pass boost of +60 hp

  • Top speed limited to 180 km/h

  • 1233 kg with driver

Designed for flat-out 15 to 20 minute sprint races with no power drop, the NXT1 focuses on equal performance and driver development.

It also marks an important milestone for RaceRoom.

The NXT1 is the first car fully recreated using physics-based rendering materials inside and out. This allows surfaces such as paint, carbon fiber, plastics and metals to react to light in a far more natural way, delivering a level of visual realism that significantly raises the bar for vehicle production in RaceRoom.

It features a newly replicated real-world data dashboard and was developed in close partnership with LRT using detailed handling feedback and valuable real-world data throughout development. This represents a step forward in both visual fidelity and vehicle production standards.

The NXT1 also features authentic race electronics implemented according to the official NXT Gen Cup rulebook, including Push-to-Pass and a launch mode. Push-to-Pass allows drivers to temporarily unlock additional power for overtaking, but it must first be armed before it can be activated after a short delay, preventing instant use in wheel-to-wheel situations. The same steering-wheel button is also used for **launch mode **at the start, allowing drivers to quickly bring the car up to the optimal power level for a strong and consistent launch off the line.

Press the button once to arm the system. After a five-second delay it becomes ready, and you then have a five-second window to press it again to activate the boost. If the second press does not happen within that window, the activation is still counted as used. Each session allows only two uses, so timing it correctly is key.

Two New Italian Circuits
Vallelunga – Autodromo Piero Taruffi

Located approximately 30 km north of Rome, Vallelunga is a 4.085 km technical circuit known for rhythm and precision.

  • 15 corners

  • Clockwise layout

  • Opened in 1951

Vallelunga rewards clean inputs and momentum driving. The fast Curva Grande demands commitment, while the tight Campagnano hairpin puts focus on traction and exit speed. It is a circuit where consistency often beats aggression.

Adria Raceway – 2003 & 2021 Versions

Adria Raceway joins RaceRoom with both its classic 2003 circuit and the modernized 2021 configuration.

Originally opened in 2002, Adria is compact, flat and highly technical. In 2003, the circuit hosted the DTM, bringing touring car intensity to this tight Italian venue. That era aligns perfectly with the character of the DTM 2002 cars in RaceRoom.

The 2003 layout is short and intense, emphasizing traction, precision and qualifying performance. In high-downforce touring machinery, it becomes a relentless rhythm challenge where mistakes are punished immediately.

The 2021 redesign introduced new asphalt, revised corner sequences and improved safety areas, adding flow while retaining the circuit’s tight character.

Adria rewards precision, controlled throttle application and disciplined racecraft. It produces close racing where track position and consistency matter.

**Spa-Francorchamps Returns **

Spa-Francorchamps returns to RaceRoom, including all the latest changes made to the circuit.

This is not a minor revision. The circuit has been redeveloped to modern standards with comprehensive updates across the entire venue.

Improvements include:

  • New terrain and vegetation across the entire circuit

  • New safety zones

  • New gravel traps and run-off areas

  • New barriers and curbs

  • New buildings, tower and trackside structures

  • Track entirely resurfaced to match real life performances

From La Source to Eau Rouge and Blanchimont, the track now reflects its contemporary configuration while preserving the challenge and character that define it.

To celebrate its return, Spa-Francorchamps will be available at 50 percent discount for a limited time after release.

New Steering Angle System

Q1 introduces a major improvement to steering wheel setup and compatibility.

RaceRoom’s new Steering Angle system significantly improves support for a wide range of hardware, especially direct drive wheels that previously required manual fine-tuning.

You now set your wheel’s maximum rotation once to match your hardware. The game automatically applies the correct steering ratio for each car, ensuring accurate 1:1 steering behavior without constant reconfiguration.

  • Supported wheels sync automatically

  • Other hardware can be configured manually

  • Each car loads its correct default steering ratio

  • Drivers can still fine-tune the steering ratio in the setup menu

Less configuration. More time driving.

HUD Improvements

The Q1 update includes an updated driver name display and redesigned input meter as part of our continued HUD modernization efforts.

Note: You can move and resize HUD elements such as the input meter, data display, track map and virtual mirror by binding a key for “Move and resize HUD elements”.

This is one step in a broader series of UI and HUD improvements planned throughout 2026.

**RaceRoom Grid Talk **

A new episode of RaceRoom Grid Talk aired on March 18.

In this episode we cover the full Q1 2026 update, provide development insights into the new content and features, and discuss upcoming in-game activities including the DTM Esports Championship 2026.

How Patch Notes - 26th DECEMBER 2025 went

Patch Notes - 19th DECEMBER 2025

Added 4
  • Add HUD element called Car Proximity Radar that displays nearby cars to scale and marks assigned pit stop area
  • Allow Car Proximity Radar to be toggled through Settings menu under Gameplay -> HUD tabs
  • Allow Car Proximity Radar to be moved and resized using the Move and Resize HUD Elements keybind
  • Display cars with collisions disabled as slightly greyed out on the radar without triggering colored warnings
Update details:
  • Download size = 67.7 MB

  • Client version = 0.9.7.45

  • Client BuildID = 21257988

Introducing the HUD Radar:

In today's update, we added a HUD element called "Car Proximity Radar".

Like any other HUD element, the Radar can be toggled through the Settings menu, You will find it by either typing "radar" in the search box or navigating through Gameplay -> HUD tabs

And also just like many other HUD elements, you can move the radar around while in your car, and make it larger or smaller by using the "Move and Resize HUD Elements" keybind ( defaults to 'M' key ).

Press the keybind, left click and drag an element to move it and right click and drag to rescale it, then press the keybind again to resume gameplay.

The cars on the HUD radar are drawn to scale, so you can trust the radar even when battling a RR Truck in your trusty NSU TTS.

Additionally, we added a blue rectangle on the radar that marks your assigned pit stop area in the pitlane. This is useful when the pitlane is crowded, making it easier to spot your area.

If a car has collisions disabled ( for example affected by wrecker prevention system, or because it's inside the pitlane ), it will be slightly greyed out on the radar and will not trigger any coloured warnings.

We hope this addition helps you all improve your reputation scores in online races, and helps situation awareness overall for everybody.

This radar is part of a larger HUD redesign project but we wanted to include it without delay ahead of the holidays.
